There are 4k HDMI 2.0 splitters available, e.g. https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Passthrough-JTD18G-H5CH/dp/B074HHSJVN/ = they're just in the $40-$50 range.

I had the same issue, albeit I needed the optical cable for my mixer for my headphones. I bought this audio extractor

J-Tech Digital 4K 60HZ HDMI Audio Extractor Converter SPDIF + 3.5MM Output Supports HDMI 2.0, 18Gpbs Bandwidth, HDCP 2.2, Dolby Digital/DTS Passthrough CEC, HDR10 [JTD18G-H5CH] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074HHSJVN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_RSFTFbD9WRNQK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It keeps 1440p @ 144hz and 4K @ 60hz intact as well as surround sound. I’ve been very happy I found this because the loss of the optical cable hurt my setup too. I’m pretty sure it will fix your problem. Haven’t had any issues with it.

USB and HDMI are more than capable of transmitting sound.

According to another poster, many are using this adapter for the slim already and it works.

Aye, projector gang. You want this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074HHSJVN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This one is 4k@60hz, you can probably get by grabbing a cheaper one that isn't 4k (provided your projector isn't 4k) but this one is somewhat future proof, plus I have a splitter to connect to my projector and 4K TV.

I have an ATV 4K that I use for movies and music. I want to run the HDMI to my stereo for movies in 5.1, but zone 2 for music on different stereo speakers. The stereo cannot use digital input for zone 2, so where in the set up should I split off RCA for zone 2? The TV has RCA out that I could hookup to zone 2 on the stereo, but I’m assuming the DAC in the TV isn’t very good? Can I split off RCA with something like this while still passing audio via hdmi to the receiver for movies when not using zone 2? TIA

Yeah, you'd also have to get an audio extractor. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Passthrough-JTD18G-H5CH/dp/B074HHSJVN/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=hdmi+audio+mixer&qid=1602038370&sr=8-6

It's pretty round-about though. You may be better off trying to find a receiver that allows multiple sources to mix.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I totally understand not wanting to move away from the 800x's. I ended up purchasing the stealth 700's gen 2 and returned them because the elites were simply better.

So I did some further research and found you need a HDMI Audio Extractor Converter.

This is what i ordered: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074HHSJVN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is coming tomorrow and I can report back to you with the results.

Buying something like this and running optical into your Beam might work. The problem is that you'll still be getting a 5.1 PCM signal instead of a 5.1 Dolby Digital signal since the Apple TV cannot output bitstream audio, only PCM. The question is will the Beam accept PCM 5.1 or will it downgrade it to stereo. That I do not know.

What are you trying to do, exactly?

If you're trying to get audio out of the HDMI signal from the PS5, you could look into HDMI Audio extractors. Different versions will have all sorts of audio outputs (toslink and sometimes coaxial for the digital / spdif options, maybe 3.5mm analog if it also has a DAC). Note that the HDMI passthrough on those devices is likely to be either HDMI 1.4 or 2.0 (you have to comb through the listings), and definitely not 2.1, if that matters to you. Here's an example that should be 2.0 compatible.

Not sure if this would help, but you could also consider putting a passive preamp in the middle of any part of the analog audio chain where you want volume control. Something like this, for instance. You would also basically need something like this if you used a line level analog output from an HDMI audio extractor (along with some y splitters).

I'm in a sort of similar situation except that I have the standard PS4, I play on PC however my friends play on PS4 so we use the PS party chat to communicate. The way i have my A50's set up is USB to the PC and optical to the PS4, but considering you have a PS4 slim i assume you would need to use a workaround such as this adapter ( https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Passthrough-JTD18G-H5CH/dp/B074HHSJVN/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=hdmi+2.0+spdif+converter&qid=1597332331&sr=8-3 ) which extracts the audio from the HDMI and outputs it as optical. The only problem with this is that you won't have a mic connected to the PS4 as the optical is one way. Let me know if you need any further help or explanation.

5.1 works. Just not every DTS Atmos or whatever digital codec if your TV does not support that (has no licence) AFIK. I'm not 100% certain on this. But normal 5.1 works just fine for me.

It's the same spidf going out your Xbox One
You can also get something like this.

or a cheaper variant.

Sorry dude, you should look it up, optical audio is inferior to modern HDMI audio... clearly you're not an audiofile and knowledgeable about current tech so you'll just have to believe the people that are into it, or research it yourself.

And since you seem like a bit of an arrogant troll nobody has taken the time to tell you that you can simply buy an HDMI to Optical-out splitter... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074HHSJVN/

Or just sell it

A $25 box like this would strip the audio out of the HDMI to 5.1/2.0 optical/TOSlink out (or analog left/right) and pass the HDMI through to the TV.

This way you can use any streaming box you like that has HDMI out. Which I think makes more sense than choosing a streaming box based on it's audio out features.

This one looks like it's 4k or 1080p for $23 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W4NDDVW but it has a lot less reviews (the first two had 2,000+ reviews).

This boils down to television manufacturers trying to save a few bucks by not licensing the ability to decode/encode Dolby Digital et al. The TV is at fault here for not passing the full audio stream down the HDMI ARC channel.

You're going to have to be inventive. It will require splitting the audio output from the Apple TV before it gets to your television. You'll lose the ability for your TV to control audio etc.

This is the device I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074HHSJVN/. It has HDMI input, optical audio output and HDMI output. I plug the apple TV into the input. I plug my TV into the HDMI Out. I then use the included Sonos Optical to HDMI converter and an HDMI cable to plug into the Beam. I programmed my Apple TV remote volume up and down to be received by the Beam to control volume levels. Finally, I turned the volume level output on the TV to 0.

This works for us because we use the Apple TV for everything now. When I decide to play a game with the PlayStation, I use headphones plugged into my controller. :)

there's 5.1 channel audio extractors, that give you a SPIDF output.

https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Passthrough-JTD18G-H5CH/dp/B074HHSJVN/ $46 for 4k

https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Converter-JTDAT5CH/dp/B00BIQER0E/ $26 for 1080

good reviews. and that's all you'd need if your current receiver can do surround based on SPIDF input. the advantages would be the same here, in terms of your feeding your receiver a line-level audio signal, so all volume control and mixing would be handled by the receiver.

there's technically some loss of fidelity going through SPIDF VS what could be delivered through HDMI 1.3, but i seriously doubt it's anything noticeable outside of a very well engineered listening space. SPIDF was the standard for "high quality" audio for years and years :)
