Yup.. a receiver of some kind would be best. This projector doesn't have an audio out. So you would need a receiver.. or I suppose an HDMI audio extractor (HDMI in and HDMI out.. with a stereo audio out).. and plug your speakers into the audio extractor

You could try an audio extractor like below or something similar:
- HDMI Out from Shield to HDMI Audio Extractor In
- Red & White RCA cables from extractor to sound bar
- HDMI our from Audio extractor you TV
This might work but I don’t know if it will. It’s worth a shot.

An Epson Home Cinema 1060 would be a good inexpensive first projector. It's very bright and puts out a pretty nice looking image.
At 6.5 feet away from the screen it will make a roughly 85" image. However you could make it as small as 72 ish with the zoom dial.
The one downside is that the projector doesn't have an audio out jack. You'd need to use an HDMI audio splitter Like this to hook audio to external speakers.
EDIT: I believe the Epson HC1060 is branded as the TW650 in Europe.

I have the A40s with Mixamp and a series x. There’s no optical port on the Series X so no surround sound. If you want the sound back, you’ll need something like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BIQER0E?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I ordered the same one and sound is perfect. Only catch is, it only runs 1080p at 60hz. Best Buy has one that supports 1080 at 120hz or 4K at 60hz. PUBG only runs at 60 FPS, so the 1080 60hz one is fine for me
1 points • Coylethird
Right now I'm using a Dell Optiplex 3010 I picked up used off eBay and the sound quality off that is fine. I won't be using headphones, but might opt for the Asus Rog just to be on the safe side. It's too bad my surround sound system doesn't have an hdmi in, then it could just process everything, running it thru the AV inputs seems to work ok though. Was looking at that external DAC you mentioned and found a HDMI to HDMI +Audio Optical extractor, I do have an optical input on my surround system, think that digital optical would produce better sound than going thru the RCA analog inputs, seems like it'd be ok as long as the extractor didn't reduce my hdmi video signal.

I bought this so that I could use a chromecast to send music to my stereo receiver: https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Converter-JTDAT5CH/dp/B00BIQER0E/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=jtech+hdmi+extractor&qid=1603463624&s=electronics&sr=1-4
No complaints so far. You'd just need an RCA->3.5mm cable to run from that to your amp.
1 points • Corvo_AttanoxX
Seems like you might need an hdmi audio extractor so you can use the optical portion like this one hope this helps
1 points • LaserDisq
If those are really all the plugs your tv has, it might just not have an audio out at all. I suggest running the audio into the receiver before it gets to the tv. That component input at the bottom is easy enough to do as the audio is already rca. For the HDMI sources, they make breakout boxes that will pass the video through and give you audio outputs, like this. That's just the first one I found after a google search, no idea how good or bad it is, and I have no experience with these things personally, but it is an option.
1 points • GroovyGuy710
Why not! You could use the Tuner, CD, or Network input on the Marantz to output your TV audio through the speakers! (If your TV doesn't have an RCA output you can buy an HDMI audio extractor) I highly reccomend hooking your TV up to the stereo! Getting good sound with tv, movies, and video games has been an unexpected benefit of my Vinyl stereo system which I really enjoy and you have all the equipment you need to do it so you may as well!!

yeah it seems my avr is hdmi pass-through only and is sending the sound to the hdmi out rather than into the surround sound.
as much as i need to replace this dinosaur avr, wouldn’t a hdmi audio extractor thingy work instead??

Extraacting the digital stream from HDMI is a pretty simply function with modern integrated circuits. It is very unlikely that you will experience any benefit from "name brands" or excessive prices for such simple technology. The chips that do this extraction cost only a few ören whether you pay 200 kr or 2000kr. Don't sweat it. I would expect that a generic gadget from China will operate perfectly.
Example: J-Tech Digital HDMI To HDMI + Audio Extractor Converter

Have you considered using an hdmi sound extractor thingy Amazon ? (that's just one I found in a quick search, do your own reasearch before buying)
Plug your chromecast into that, hook up the optical out to your soundcard on the rpi, then the audio out of the soundcard to your TV or whatever.
The raspberry pi would just run raspbian and power the sound card, no other software needed.
Then you can just use the chromecast like your normally.

You can also use one of these to pass the audio directly to the powered speakers without even requiring a TV. Unless you are planning to use the speakers for the TV in general.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BIQER0E/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_-bb9EbM025T5W
I've found that a Chromecast video works fine this way even without picture. Or you could look for a used Chromecast Audio which will also work on a home group and can output digital to the powered speakers via a mini toslink if they have optical in and won't need the extractor or the TV.

The extractor I use is no longer available, but a quick search found this one with really good reviews. It is for a single source and is about $25.
Any one that you get might require changing some settings on your source in order for it to work correctly, but I rarely have issues with mine.

HDMI can handle 5.1 fine. “HDMI ARC allows for the "upstream" and "downstream" of signals over a single HDMI connection between your TV and any ARC-equipped A/V deices. This allows for the use of a single remote for all of your connected devices most common functions.”
And if you need TOSLink just get: J-Tech Digital Premium Quality 1080P HDMI To HDMI + Audio (SPDIF + RCA Stereo) Audio Extractor Converter (JTDAT5CH) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BIQER0E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SSHNEbKREZCTJ But you may need one with more than 1 input if you use your PS4 as well and 4k capability if you need it.

Works well...
However, that only does 1080p and below... if you need 4K... you’ll find links on that page that do 4K... 4K might be a little trickier because it not only has to do 4K at all th frame rates but hdr as well... keep that in mind...

I know there are a few phone apps that can make the phone act as a chromecast receiver, but I don't know of any which work within the chrome browser to make a tab act as a receiver, though that would be awesome if someone could figure that out! Oh, maybe you could check out AllCast Receiver on the chrome store? Do you think that would do the job? It might be out of date now though, I'm not at my desktop to check for myself.
Not to be that guy that suggests purchasing more crap to get something working, but I use my chromecast with a TV that doesn't have any proper audio out connections, so basically the same situation as you in terms of audio, I think. I got one of these (an HDMI audio extractor) --> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BIQER0E to use with my chromecast and that lets me pull the audio and use it with my old home theater receiver rather than relying on my tv speakers. Chromecast goes on the input side, and an HDMI cable would go from the output to your monitor, as well as an audio cable out for your speakers. It works a treat for me and doesn't add any delays or degradation of picture quality

Get a refurbished Espon 1060 (or equivalent name brand optima, benq, viewsonic, LG, sony, jvc, panasonic) 1080p / 3,000+ lumen projector for about $400.
Build a screen out of four 2"x3"x8' boards with rope guy-lines and metal stakes. Attach the boards using wingnuts, washers and bolts. Use a queen size white sheet for an 8' wide screen (110" diagonal).
Buy a big outdoor speaker with rca input like an Ion Pathfinder for about $150. You'll probably want a $20 hdmi audio extractor to hook up the sound.

Having some issues getting 120fps on Fortnite on PS5. I've done some reading and apparently 120fps is possible on Fortnite for PS5 if you enable performance mode. I've done this, but I still can not get 120fps.
I have a 144hz monitor
I use Astro headsets which requires an adapter due to PS5 not having optical port. This is the adapter I own due to Astro being out of stock when I bought my PS5
I also have HDMI 2.1 going from my PS5 to the adapter, and then another from the adapter to my monitor.
Still, with all of that, I can not seem to get 120fps on Fortnite. Does anybody have any ideas? Is the adapter the problem? I've ordered the official Astro one (should be here tomorrow) now that they are back in stock. I'm just curious if there is maybe something else I'm missing.
Thanks!

If you have a stereo, you can go the route i did. I got an HDMI audio extractor; which has HDMI in and out and 1/8" (3.5mm) audio out to hook up to your stereo. Then you'll just need an HDMI to DVI cable . This setup here is about $40 US.
1 points • r5d400
so the typical way to not need an audio out is to have video source -> AVR -> projector, such that the AVR grabs the audio before sending over just the image to the projector.
but the thing you described exists as well, just search for 'hdmi audio extractor' and you'll find it. you'll then plug your chromecast or whatever to the audio extractor, which will then have an audio out, plus an hdmi out that would go to your projector.

Hi, I'm planning to buy a stereo receiver/integrated amp and a pair of passive speakers (most likely KEF Q150s). Have 2 questions that I'd like to get inputs before making a decision:
- What receiver/amp do you recommend? I'd like to stay under $300 but can stretch to maybe 400 if it's really worth the extra. I plan to use this only for 2.0/2.1 music & movies. Sources will be my PC, couple of iphone’s, ipad’s. I currently have the SMSL AD18 and Denon 600NE in mind, but leaning toward the Denon for a longer term use.
- My PC does not have optical/SPDIF output. I don't have an external DAC. Would it be better to split HDMI output from PC to HDMI + optical using something like this converter, or just buy a cheap USB DAC and use it for digital audio passthrough like this mini DAC?
1 points • cshelton
Since the Chromecast audio was discontinued over a year ago, you will likely need to look at ebay for buying one now. They are the ideal setup for connecting a Chromecast to an older stereo like this one.
If you cannot find a reasonably priced Chromecast audio, this HDMI audio extractor might be worth trying, connected to a regular Chromecast: https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Converter-JTDAT5CH/dp/B00BIQER0E

Ok, I am not sure how you have the system setup, but it looks like it has analog, optical usb and I am guessing bluetooth input? It also has hdmi output, for ARC. How are you connecting to it?
You may be able to use an hdmi audio extractor, on the hdmi output, and use that to feed an external subwoofer.
Something like this:
You'd use the rca outputs to feed the external subwoofer in this scenario.

You can use a regular Chromecast ultra, hook it into a HDMI audio extractor, and cable from that to the receiver.

Buy the (mixamp pro tr) and plug in the usb cable from the mixamp onto your PC instead of PS4. Make sure you have PC mode selected on the mixamp. Then you'll be able to hear the PS4 audio and hear PC audio and chat on discord with one headset. Any 3.5mm headset works with the mixamp, it doesn't just have to be Astro's.
PC/Mac - sound settings - Input (Astro Mixamp Pro Game) - Output (Astro Mixamp Pro Voice)
Discord voice settings - Input Device (Astro Mixamp Pro Game) - Output Device - (Default)
If you're playing on a PS4 slim, since it doesn't have an an optical port you going to need to buy one of these as well (HDMI extractor).
Astro has a video on youtube on how to set it up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHTm3Wtie1s

A $25 box like this would strip the audio out of the HDMI to 5.1/2.0 optical/TOSlink out (or analog left/right) and pass the HDMI through to the TV.
- 1080p https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Converter-JTDAT5CH/dp/B00BIQER0E
- 4k https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Converter-JTDAT5CH/dp/B074HHSJVN
This way you can use any streaming box you like that has HDMI out. Which I think makes more sense than choosing a streaming box based on it's audio out features.
This one looks like it's 4k or 1080p for $23 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W4NDDVW but it has a lot less reviews (the first two had 2,000+ reviews).
