Any new wireless Ethernet bridging adapter will work. You won't be able to configure it from the Xbox. That process will have to be done on your home computer first then connect it to the console.

For example:

We’ve used these little adaptors before, never for a camera but based on the specs they should work just fine. IOGEAR Ethernet-2-WiFi Universal Wireless Adapter, GWU637,Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018YPWORE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_ku.SFbKX6YWRC

I don't know if Ubiquiti makes any of these, but you need something like this:

In the future, you might have better luck on r/buildapc or r/techsupport with these types of question. Also, why is this tagged NSFW?

That aside, this seems to do what you're looking for in part 1 (I googled "ethernet wifi receiver"). Not sure about part 2.

Eero 5 as a wifi to ethernet adapter?

I currently have the Eero 6 Pro system running flawlessly in my 2,800 sq ft, 3 floor home, with an unit on each floor. Cat5e was run to every room in the house except the attached garage, which is where I wpuld really like to have one. Wifi is already plenty adequate in the garage even though it's kitty corner from the that floors Eero 6 unit. The units on the other floors (basement and upstair) may even be a little closer.

I have a hobby PLC and I would really like to connect to it wirelessly, but I need to get it on the network first.I know I could buy an adapter like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018YPWORE/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_fabc_aFo3FbNMAPWT9

But I'm hoping for something a little more solid and user friendly. High Bandwidth is not yet needed in the application.

Would adding an additional plain Eero 5 router (mostly for it's ethernet port) to the garage be too much coverage and cause interference?

I don't want to ruin an already great network by doing this so I'm running it by the experts.

That's actually a real thing. You'll need a very short ethernet cable, but since it's wired going into the console you'll appear as wired despite still connecting to your router via WiFi.

Do you think this would work

You are looking for something called either "Ethernet to Wireless Adapter" or "Ethernet to WiFi Adapter", both names are common. It's really just a 'bridge' but built for connecting a single device (I will explain bridges next).

Here's a representative listing: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018YPWORE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gVTOFbRJ9YH95

If, instead, you were connecting more than one wired device to a bigger network via WiFi, that would be called a "bridge" as in "ethernet to WiFi bridge". A bridge would work for you as well, but it is usually designed to connect more devices at once.

I used the Sprint 1 yr free promo for this for a year and it worked great til my phone crapped out. I think its hard on phones to be plugged in and tethered 24/7. I used this device to pick up the tether signal and then Ethernet right into my router's WAN port.

So, I think if you can find a good deal for a truly unlimited plan it works, nobody uses Sprint anymore so their network is ridiculously fast. I've moved on to a Mint Mobile plan and the Tmo network in comparison is dog slow (like 10-15mb/s compared to Sprint 80-170mb/s) but I'm only paying $15 a mo for now so its fine. I think in a lot of areas the Sprint network is slow, just not my area.

I may do this same thing again in the future, I caved and got wired internet about a year ago because I initially stopped using the internet thinking Sprint was on to me. They weren't, they never throttled what happened was the phone (an old Nexus6p) was just fried from a year's use and it just didn't tether above about 1mb/s, which is just too slow.

But the promo was ending, and I think the only way to do it now would be to root and use Sprint Kickstart, which I really should do because that would be $25 through Best Buy vs the $70 a mo I'm paying Spectrum. Decisions decisions.

The Wifi on my PS4 is flaky as hell and always has been even with the router directly across the room. It's especially flaky if you have your PS4 near a TV that uses the WiFi "direct connect" feature like my Hisense Roku TV. It seems to interfere with the PS4 WiFi a lot.

I have a Google WiFi "mesh" network in my house with multiple nodes. I was able to connect an ethernet switch to one of the nodes and then hard-wire my PS4 to the switch instead of using the crappy WiFi in the PS4.

You can achieve the same thing with a "ethernet to WiFi adapter" if you can find one. There's not a whole lot on the market anymore. I found this one but the reviews aren't that great...

Look for a WiFi to LAN bridge. Something like this. I have not used this product by the way so can’t personally recommend it. You also may be able to pick one up at a local retailer typically made for a gaming console.

They make 50' Ethernet cables. They are also cheap.

The cable run might look bad. But it's not like anyone is coming over.

Closest you could get would be something like this https://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-Ethernet-2-WiFi-Universal-Wireless-GWU637/dp/B018YPWORE anything usb or pci-e would use os level configuration.

Perhaps something like this?

https://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-Ethernet-2-WiFi-Universal-Wireless-GWU637/dp/B018YPWORE

Then you could input that into the wan on your router and generate your own WiFi signal.

Quality will not be that great though I suspect.

Sweet. The WiFi adapter I'm familiar with are the USB ones that go into a computer (or wireless cards).

But I didn't have to look far to find exactly the kind of thing I need. Thank yoU!

Now this is a pfsense subreddit, and hopefully I don’t get hated on here for my answer. But trying to use pfsense as a wlan to lan converter seems to be over complicated, even if it does work (WLAN NIC compatibility issues and all). It’s also looks a little like a “if you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail” situation.

Why not consider WiFi to Ethernet bridges like https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B018YPWORE/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Universal-Ethernet-Adapter-WNCE2001/dp/B003KPBRRW?

Heck if this is enterprise grade network (seems to be from everything else you said), and you need to get enterprise grade “support and accountability” (important since you’re working with PLCs and stuff for OT), there the Aruba 501 wireless bridge.

Is there a reason you can't use a PCIe wifi card?

The B450M Mortar Max mATX board with 4 PCIe slots is available in Europe and I can't think of any reason you'd need more than 3 PCIe devices on AM4 - two slots would be taken up by the GPU (assuming you're not using a 2.5/3 slot GPU), one slot for a network card (wifi in this case), and a spare slot for whatever specialty device you could want (capture card?).

The Mortar Max also has a whopping 7 type-A USB ports (2 more than the Tomahawk) so you wouldn't exactly be limited in terms of space for USB adapters either.

There's also the option of an ethernet -> wifi adapter if you don't want to use USB wifi adapters, but they're more expensive and tend to be limited to lower speeds (the main one I know of on American Amazon is 300Mbps).

Back when Linux still had a lot of wifi driver issues, I got this thing that's like a wireless dongle but uses an ethernet port. You'd log into it like a mini router to set up the connection, then it would appear to the computer as if it was plugged in via ethernet. Found it - bought in 2012 for $44.60.

I think this does the same thing.

Just an option if you have a lot of troubles getting wifi to work. An option I think most people are not aware of. It's not great since it only does 2.4GHz b/g/n but well, better than nothing.

Seems you may have received the short end of the straw however, one possible solution is the use of power line ethernet adapters like this one

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WP2ZT5N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_TsYVEb8MBXMRE

And then depending on if you can't connect the ethernet cable to the router on the first floor, you can use something like this wifi-to-ethernet converter

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018YPWORE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_7qYVEbP6RAXAM

Now, this is far from the ideal situation, especially if the electrical wiring is old and well given the fact that you're on the 3rd floor, which may be in a complete different circuit

But this is the best I can recommend

Note;

Also probably finding a powerful wifi range extender, may be able to do the trick and is much less work to set up. E.g. a product like this one;

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084MNDDBD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_pwYVEbWEKYT7N

Does he know this is for work?

Alternately there are wifi adapters that plug into your Ethernet port.

In an apartment I had a few years ago, I had the same issue. I didn't really care how it looked, so I ended up using little adhesive mounting squares paired with zip ties and ran the cable up to the ceiling and along the wall that way. It wasn't pretty, but it worked fine.

Removing them did pop a little of the paint off, so something like these Command Mini Hooks might also work well. They're more expensive than the mounting squares, but should be easier to get off later.

A simpler option, if you have good Wi-Fi coverage but your work computer can't use it, would be a wireless bridge. Something like this ($49) or this ($25)? Plug it into the ethernet port of your work computer, and it'll never know the difference.

Another option, if you have cable TV jacks in the places you'd need network ports, would be a set of MoCA adapters. I don't have any experience with these so can't advise on which ones to buy, but they'll let you use the coax wiring in your house as a network cable. The adapters then convert it to ethernet on each end. Here's some info on the technology: https://www.actiontec.com/wifihelp/wifibooster/how-does-moca-work/
