Anything but the elite strap because it will just end up cracking eventually. Although, it was comfortable as hell, just not made to last unfortunately. Me personally I’m saving up and getting the vive deluxe audio strap. HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y2GDXMC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_YF91FbX17YM45

YOu need to create a FB account with your real name/birthdate possibly phone #. So someone has to be the 'master' of the helmet.

And generally speaking a brand new FB account with a brand new Quest will get flagged for extra validation which requires a photo ID in most cases like a drivers license that matches the same information you put in when you made the account. Once you get through all of this, then you should be fine i wouldn't expect being adults that you will do things to violate the ToS and get yourselves banned.

The Elite Strap has a design flaw, but the regular strap works fine. If you got the elite strap you may want to just return it until they do a re-design and the old stock cycles through the retail chains and you buy a redesigned version.

Since you mentioned MODS, i'll link this, it's the vive deluxe audio strap. Lots of people with quests go this route because it's designed really well and includes ear phones. YOu will have to buy a couple fastener type bits to actually make it fit the Quest2 but it's worth it and a higher quality than any straps Oculus is selling right now.

That’s what I figured, seems weird that it would be listed as required on the store page. Link so you don’t think I’m crazy. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Feelin’ good about my choice. The 64 is now unavailable at my store and searching for the 128 doesn’t even bring up the product page anymore, it’s like it was never there at all.

I got this case which comes with a lot of extras that I figure will get him started and then he can swap them out for nicer versions if he wants https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083TDHQH7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_btf_t1_HaiqFb4XBKFNE

Is this thing worth it and does it comfortably take the place of the padded head straps?

Depending on your budget I’d HIGHLY recommend the vive deluxe audio (frankenquest setup)

I am so glad I ordered the vive deluxe audio strap. There’s a mod you can get for it to make it work for the quest. HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y2GDXMC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_7g81Fb5H8YJZS

I'm fully in the Frankenquest 2 Squad! Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and 3D-printed adapters FTW!

It's a bit expensive ($120), but it's pretty comfortable and you get decent built-in headphones.

...to be fair, I also got the Quest 2 facial interface replacement and Vive DAS foam replacement from VRCover, too. It definitely adds up, but I've found it to be worth it!

Seems like there is limited stock at marked up prices https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B06Y2GDXMC/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all . However I found another thread where someone claimed to email Vive support and got the following response...
'' Regarding your inquiry about the deluxe audio strap, please note that the unfortunately it is out of stock and it will not be in stock again on our website. Therefore, at the moment, we do recommend checking with our retailers in UK, like: SCAN or Overclockers.''
... so it seems it may actually be running out of stock

QoL suggestion: Invest in DAS & a mod, and an upgraded faceplate. (AMVR is probably my first choice. The stock foam interface gets hot and isn't easy to clean, and trust me you'll probably sweat after a few rounds of Beat Saber or SuperHot) I also have the VRCover for the DAS but that is probably optional. (Just another level of additional comfort/easy to clean.)

Huge improvement in comfort, sound and portability. With mine it's arguably as comfortable as my CV1 now without sacrificing portability. My only gripe with the Quest is that the stock audio/headband aren't great, those mods go a LONG way from enabling you to play for 20-30 minutes, to easily 2 hours without discomfort.

Buy a new strap. You can buy the Deluxe Audio Strap and do the famous Frankenquest mod, or you can buy a Halo Strap similar to the one on the Rift S or the PSVR.

It really depends on your head. If you have used halo straps before and they work for you then there's your answer. If halo straps don't work for you then go for the Deluxe Audio Strap.

I got the deluxe audio strap, adapters from Etsy, battery pack holder, and Anker battery pack. As for the case, I don't know of a case that could fit the frankenquest.

Haven't done these modifications yet, but I've read great things about them and plan to once I've got the money.

HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap - $100 Adds great on-ear headphones as well as a good headstrap. Requires an adapter - $16 to fit the Quest 2.

Knuckles Controller Grips - $25 Much better grips that allow you to hold the controller without activating the touch sensors on the buttons.

VRCover - $14 - $30 This is the place for a good face cover. The nicer ones are out of stock frequently and shipping is slow so sign up for their email list to know when stock is available.

These are all pretty reputable vendors.

They're currently getting scalped and priced gouged like crazy due to quarantine. You'll want to refresh these two pages and buy at normal price ($99) as soon as you see it become available:

This isn't going to work with Quest 2 and the 3D printed adapters available now. The connectors are different than the DAS, so it would need a new 3D printed adapter. Here's the DAS and 3D printed adapters for reference:

If you want the wireless experience (either go for the Vive Pro, or save a lot of money and get the original Vive and buy stuff separately. Here's what I recommend: (This is also my setup as well):

This comes to $1,232.22 and you'll have a delux headset with tripods for your base stations AND index controllers. I've been using this setup since 2018 and it's awesome. The only problem is that you'll be using an older headset, unfortunately, the Valve Index doesn't work with the wireless, but at least the controllers will. Hope this helps.

Lens covers are lenses that go over the actual quest lenses. The Quest lenses are poly-bicarbonate and are pretty easy to scratch. Not sure what oculus’s current repair solution is for the quest 2, but if you had scratched lenses on the original quest the only solution was to be sent a refurbished unit for 350$. Here’s a link to the lens covers. They are Plano which means they are non-prescription.

Strap is the Vive Deluxe audio strap with a VR cover comfort foam replacement. You’ll either need to strap it on with Velcro or buy adapters for it.

I always hated the halo design with its bad audio. Wearing my headphones with it always raised the back of the halo, tilting the display forward, resting weight on my cheeks.

I tried using Koss Porta Pros mounted with Jeremy from Tested's 3d printed adapters and they worked for me for a while, but getting the headset on and off with them was a hassle.

I was so glad when the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap went back on sale. Mounted with some adapters from ebay and a cloth face cover for extra padding, I'd say this is as perfect as the Rift S can be for me.

You can still buy the DAS at places like Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y2GDXMC/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_x_1ETNFbKAF49Z8

And still for the regular price... so are you sure it is discontinued?

You attach it by getting adapters for it.

My brother is 3d printing adapters for me, he is using this version of the adapters

The DAS is really worth the upgrade in my opinion. Getting all this stuff was expensive but has made using VR for longer periods of time more possible. It would be so heavy and hot after a couple hours. Now I've gone 2 full days using the headset. Be sure to get eye drops too lol.

sure thing, here are a couple of facial interface mods for example, the first one being a cover that goes over the original and the second one a flat out replacement for it:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WV22V8J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And here you have the headstrap mods, the Kiwi headband being the cheapest one, and vive deluxe audio strap the most expensive, and the esimen a cheaper alternative but as good aparently

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081V8W4ZQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/HTC-Vive-Deluxe-Audio-Strap-pc/dp/B06Y2GDXMC/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=deluxe+audio+strap&qid=1593563849&sr=8-2

There is also the goquest vr version of the halo strap, wich is basically the same as the esimen strap, don't really know the diferences between them but the goquestvr one gives the option to buy them alongside headphones

https://www.goquestvr.com/index.php/product/halo-strap/
