They have Bluetooth thermometers that you can set alarms for. Otherwise there are regular non bluetooth ones. Might be a good option for chest freezers without a built in light to know if it has power.

Awesome advice! I have five syringes and was thinking capris sun for inoculation and cut a vent or two for gas exchange. So far as hygrometer think something like this would work?

They're on Amazon for $15-50, otherwise you have to keep opening the tent to check the meter inside, assuming you're in a tent. Here's one, don't know if it's good, just an example https://www.amazon.com/Govee-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Bluetooth-Temperature/dp/B07R586J37

I like it a lot, mainly because it keeps track of everything and you can pinpoint when your humidity or temp might be too high/low. It's awesome.

I got this one. Seems to work fine. Uses bluetooth, so you'd need to get your phone close enough to it to extract the data occasionally.

I'm not an expert but I know they will move around to get to a spot that's the right temperature for them. My girl pretty much exclusively hangs out in her hammock I got her a heating rock and a heating pad so she could bask in other spots but nope, she just likes the hammock I got one of these for $14 to monitor temperature and humidity in the enclosure for my own piece of mind. I will add that you should be careful about just adding heat sources without a temperature reading. There is such a thing as too hot..

Grab one of these, use it to track your humidity over time. Then adjust the output of the humidifier until you can keep things where you want. I shoot for about 60%.

These work amazing for me! They're only $15-17 each and measure both temp/humidity. I just put them in my snakes hides and check my phone! You can also calibrate them which is a huge plus.

yeah they are Govee and I got them on amazon. Only $14 each! I too like useless data collection so I bought 10 over the course of a week lol.
What I don't like about them is that I can't see multiple sensors on the same graph, they are all separate. But you can export csv to email to do it yourself. But no way to automatically export or access data through API unfortunately.

Yep, bamboo was the first to comment and I went straight to amazon after reading his comment. And I put a 72 in my cart. I also am getting the Govee Wireless Thermometer Hygrometer which, overtime, will help me determine if 72 is too high.
I did season the humidor the day I got it (Monday). I'm not sure how well I seasoned it, but I followed a tutorial: I placed a small cup of water in and left it overnight. Once I get the hygrometer, I'll figure out if I need to re-season it, possibly using a different method.

Did my first pandemic-era hike (aka 1st hike since March) at Mt. Taurus (across the river and north of Harriman, just south of Breakneck Ridge). Breakneck was INSANE as we drove past, but Taurus (Bull Hill) parking lot was only 3/4's full at 8:30am on Sunday. Take aways:
- Not hiking for 5 months and thinking I would be in "hiking shape" since I've consistently been using my treadmill was silly of me. Treadmill incline at 15% (highest mine goes) is not a substitute for real hiking lol.
- I don't remember if it was it's own thread or just in the UL weekly, but they were talking about lightweight thermometers and one mentioned was the Govee so I snagged one since the other popular UL thermometer I already have and don't like. Maybe I'm missing something, but it looked to me like the Govee would only work if I had it paired with my phone via Bluetooth, which flies in the face of being able to conserve battery in airplane mode. If so, I may have wasted $15.
- The reason I had not hiked in so long is completely Covid19 related, so I was really curious to see what mask usage would be like while hiking since I was stressed. I'd say that at least half of the people we passed "masked up" once they saw us. I had it in my brain that the majority of people would just say "we're outside in the woods, I'm not masking". The fact that at least half did put on masks once they could see us was a pleasant surprise.
- Wowzers did I miss being out in the woods. It was such a nice reminder of how much I love hiking, and I think as long as I try to find places that I think won't be super-crowded I'm going to try and get out there and hike as much as I did pre-pandemic.

I use this, it’s Bluetooth instead of WiFi, so I can only get readings while at home. but the range is pretty good, I’m able to get readings in my living room from my green house about 100yds away.

That's as far as I would go. If a refrigerator is in the lease as supplied appliances I believe you can withhold rent. Check r/legaladvice though to be sure. If they won't fix it just keep calling them out. You can use a device like this to show them the temperature logs if they refuse to listen to you.

I picked up a couple wireless Bluetooth sensors from amazon. My initial curiosity was for my daughter’s crested gecko, by they were cheap enough I figured I’d throw one in the tupperdor. They’re from a company called Govee, and I’ve been impressed with them because they will store data for 2 years so you don’t have to remember to sync all the time. Bluetooth Sensor on Amazon

Thanks all. I figured I was over thinking it, I’m and engineer 😉 The new location seems to be rock steady but it’s only been 3 days. We’ll see in a month. I’ll post an update of the data. Love that little Govee data logger by the way. For $14 it’s pretty impressive and the range is crazy. Humidor is in a corner of the basement and it syncs with my phone 2 floors up in the opposite corner of the house 😳

Even cheaper now! Bluetooth range is actually pretty far. My hives are out in the field and I dont have to get close at all to get a quick temp check. It was cold a couple weeks ago and it was nice to check in on the humidity levels in the hive. Highly recommended. I put mine in the bottom of the quilt box.

I was looking to do something similar but then I learned that the sensor's operating temp is only up to 104 deg F. We had an indoor Nest Cam (gray type) up there to monitor and during the summer when it got over it's operating temps it would cut out for a period of time. Instead I ended up getting this Govee Wireless Temp Sensor which goes up to 140 deg F. Works for our application. Hope it helps.

That's a Govee, US$11. If you're getting one, get the unit without display. The one with display has flakey bluetooth even at few meters. The unit without display can pull data even at 2nd floor of my house consistently.

I bought the Govee Wireless Thermometer at the recommendation of another user here. It costs $17.99 on Amazon and it works great!

It weighs 0.78 oz with a detachable band for hanging, has a long battery life, and logs temp.
I turned mine on last week and it’s been logging temp and humidity in our home. I just opened the app and it automatically synced the data and produced this report:
https://imgur.com/a/O2FAiKI
I definitely recommend this for the weight, price, and ease of use.

The govee mini is similar, though perhaps the casing isn't as tough (that'd explain some of the price/weight difference). https://www.amazon.com/Govee-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Bluetooth-Temperature/dp/B07R586J37

I'm using the La Crosse now, but moving to DIY soon.
High: La Crosse Technology makes remote sensors .. \~$25 each that you can deploy out sadly you need a La Crosse Unit and Gateway which makes the package pretty expensive ... $200.
Middle: $20-$30 like https://www.amazon.com/Govee-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Bluetooth-Temperature/dp/B07R586J37
Low: DIY with r/esp8266 or ESP32 board which you can hookup many sensors to, but you'll have to build it and collect it.
1 points • PM_ME_YOUR_DCF
Has anyone tried this thermometer? I have been using this one but it'd be nice if I can collect data for the entire trip. It seems like it's designed to be used indoor but the specs show that it can handle outdoor use as well.

Eh, very pricey. I use this to monitor at 15 a pop. It allows multiple temp checkers, with alarms. Bluetooth to my phone. I can check multiple tents at a glance and overall room temp.

Every other week they go on sale on Amazon for about 11 bucks. And I know you can get five times as many of those little cheap ones for that price but to be able to do it wirelessly, not have to open something up to check on it, be able to collect the data over time to notice trends.... easy decision to make it worth it.
App is easy to use and I can have all of my sensors named in my phone all in one place. Love it.

Did you get a thermostat and humidistat to control the two levels? If you get those you can more easily control the temp and humidity. For the latter you’ll probabably need to get a humidifier, but use caution because after a while frost will build up and reduce the efficacy of the fridge. I suggest these two,

I've also got this one from the same company https://www.amazon.com/Govee-Temperature-Humidity-Notification-Monitor/dp/B07Y36FWTT/
Both seem pretty good but I don't think they have remote monitoring and that surprised me. The phone connects to them via Bluetooth.

If you're not concerned about insulation or quick access, maybe my setup will work. I have a 0.7 cubic ft Amazon Basics safe with a 6' cable that "connects" it to my standing desk leg so nobody can take the safe w/o also taking my standing desk. I added sticky-back weather seal strips around the opening to reduce the number of ways for humidity to enter, and I monitor humidity inside the safe using a bluetooth humidity thingamabob (and an app on my phone to get readings from it). The safe offers an unlock code and a "master" code, both of which you set, and when those fail there's key entry. I also bought some magnetic touch lights and slapped one on one wall of the safe so I can see inside if necessary.
Let's see if links work (in order: the safe, the cable, the lights, the humidity thingamajig):

So this model is the Whynter CHC-120S. Right now it's seasoning. It's been wiped with distilled water, and it had some distilled water + a sponge in a plastic container sitting in there for about 1.5 days. I just took them out today because I've gotten some consistent readings from the dumb-grometers as well as my WiFi hygrometer. I'm going to let it coast for another without touching it, and then see where it is.
Here's a list of everything I've bought for it so far (Amazon):
- Govee WiFi Hygrometer .......... $49.99
- Govee Smart WiFi RGB Lights .. $27.99
- Boveda 65% RH 320g, ........... $22.99
- AikTryee Mini Hygrometer ....... $5.95 (for two)
I've found the AikTryee hygrometers to be pretty accurate. I've bought several pairs of them for tupperdor experiments, as well as for a traditional humidor. They're all in sync. I used some double-sided clear tape to stick one to the window, and one to the back. There's different readings from front to back. The back is more humid, so I've been taking the average of the three hygrometers as my baseline.
The LEDs were kind of a bitch to install, but I managed to get it done. I got inspiration from this YouTube video which goes over removing the seal, slipping the strip between the crack, and making it work. I chose the Govee LEDs so they could pair better with the WiFi hygrometer, and I also have a smaller bluetooth hygrometer watching over my traditional humidor.
I think I want to buy another circular digital hygrometer to replace the physical one because it really sucks. It's nowhere near the ballpark compared to the rest of my hygrometers. If anyone has any suggestions on a good one, I'd appreciate a link!
If you have any tips, questions, or recommendations on cigars to stock this guy up with, let me know! Thanks! :D

Changed up how I store everything this year, hadn't even planned to. For years I put everthing in an old Igloo cooler with busted latches and dried the desicant packs in the oven whenever I remembered to do it.
Was at my local Home Depot this spring and saw they had plastic these plastic Plano storage trunks on clearence. They were half what they're listed for now. https://www.homedepot.com/b/Plano/Storage-Trunks/N-5yc1vZ4ifZ1z0lpke
Bought one of each size. Big one for ammo, medium for powder, and small for primers. They didn't seal air tight. A few isles over I found this weather seal tape. Fits the channel in the lid perfectly https://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-King-5-16-in-x-1-4-in-x-17-ft-Grey-D-Center-EPDM-Medium-Gap-Weatherseal-Tape-V25GA/100081207 They are pretty much air tight now, exactly like ammo cans. One roll will do the small and medium trunk, another for the large.
Week or so later I went to Cabela's to use a gift card and saw these on sale for $14.99. https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/cabelas-7-piece-safe-accessory-kit Has a really nice rechargable dessicant dehumidifier, plug it in when it says its wet to dry it it out again. I bought three. Cheaper than anything I'd seen on Amazon and I figured can always use free plastic ammo cans.
Later on I saw these on an Amazon flash sale for $10.00, https://www.amazon.com/Govee-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Bluetooth-Temperature/dp/B07R586J37, figured why not add monitoring. Have one in each trunk and my safe now. They work well, and I can keep tabs on things on my phone and see when I need to recharge the dehumidifiers.
App stores a years worth of data too.
So far I haven't HAD to recharge dehumidifiers. If I'm opening the trunks up to do reloading or whatever I recharge the dehumidifiers if the color looks a little on the wet side. I've yet to see them go over 30% or have the indicator show as fully wet.
Might be a little over kill but was cheap enough and I've got tons of room to store everything. Was worth it when I realized I no longer had that nagging little itch at my brain everytime I'd go down into my humid basement in the summer. I also figure if a pipe bursts in the basement none of it will get ruined.
