I don't know why, I would think teachers especially would have their sick days respected. In 6th grade when I was immunocompromised I got a uv hepa filter and my class had only 2 people briefly sick in the sick season compared to the whole class in the rest of the school. Hopefully it could make it make so you don't get as sick as often? It's not said enough, but a good teacher is always appreciated.

I use this guy and it works about 6-70% of the time when the HEPA filter setting is on. It gets rid of most of the smell. But for cooking with a lot of oil it doesn’t really do the trick and I resort to candles to replace the smell.

Nope, humidifier makes humidity.

A purifier cycles the air through a carbon or HEPA filter. It'll speed up removing the odor.

I use one like this

I do alot of 3d printing and the fumes can get overwhelming. This limits the fumes.

Short answer: I've been really pleased with the odor eliminating results of a HEPA air purifier. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VGIGVY/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_UTnvEbVK6MMYY)

Longer explanation: compared to vinegar or baking soda or air freshener sprays, they're not cheap at $100ish + additional filters every few months, but I've been running mine nearly non-stop since I got it in June and it's still going strong. Just last week the light came on to change the filters and I was disgusted and amazed at how dirty they were. (Got reasonable generic-brand filters two days later thanks to Prime.)

Most recently, I noticed that it works great to clear the air of fried food smells. (Love my new air fryer and it isn't as stinky as oil frying food. But it definitely still leaves that greasy stink in the air.) I'm not always diligent about getting to dishes right away, but with the air purifier, cooking smells don't seem to hang around more than an hour or so.

I'm in the same boat with the midwest winter issue. And when you can't open the windows for 5+ months out of the year, odors definitely get trapped in the space. Also, germs and dust, etc. It's nice to feel like my air is being cleaned, even if I'm not able to "air out" the room. Bonus: it doesn't just cover odor with cloying fragrance.

Lastly, and maybe most important, I think this could be a low-key way to deal with the situation without offending your roommate. Just set up the air purifier in the general vicinity of the kitchen and forget about it. No need to actively clean anything. No need for anyone to adjust their routine. No need to have a confrontational conversation about cooking skills. Just peace and the quiet hum of an air cleaning machine.

(I'm sure there are a ton of other air purifiers out there that are cheaper or more expensive or better or worse. This just happens to be the one that I picked and I've been very pleased with it. My research indicated good reviews and reasonable price. And I've been happy with it.)

With two people, and two dogs our master bedroom always smelled until I invested in an air filter/purifier with a uv bulb. We bought this one and it made a world of difference.

I have been using a Germ Guardian for over a year and a half now. I have not noticed any differences in migraines, however. The purifier is set to run for 12-hours everyday.

Here it is: Germ Guardian True HEPA Filter Air Purifier for Home, Office, Bedrooms, Filters Allergies, Pollen, Smoke, Dust, Pet Dander, UV-C Sanitizer Eliminates Germs, Mold, Odors, Quiet 22 inch 3-in-1 AC4825 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VGIGVY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_g9SAEb75WR493

On another note, if you have sinus issues and your headaches are linked around those issues, I would recommend seeing an otolaryngologist as sinus disease can cause headaches. Especially if the individual is suffering from polyposis, or chronic sinusitis, etc..

I own 4 of these and there are a few more at the office; over 6 years of being around them they have never broken down or had issues.

I got a hepa air purifier and it really works great for keeping my room from getting hazy. I got this one but I am sure there are lots of others that would work.

Edit: jesus please do not listen to everyone telling you to basically disable it by covering it with plastic when you probably have lithium batteries/chargers like wtf don't be stupid.

EDIT ADDITION: I looked up the large air purifier I have, $100 on amazon or Best Buy and the reviews do mention it helps with smoke. I love it cause I get terrible allergies and it helps significantly with that so hopefully it helps you with your situation! It’s called Germ Guardian https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VGIGVY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_j-JTEbYW2DYNX

And I’m sure you can find others that will work too!

——————————

Idk if it’s been suggested or might work, but a small air filter coupled with an open window/door draft might help.

I had neighbors who did the same but only weed and I kept this “desk top” air filter in the bathroom running with the main fan on (windowless bathroom) and had some glade plug in and it helped.

But the cigarette smell is so strong...my parents were smokers growing up and only smoked in the garage and it is terrible in there....but at least the filter can help.

I have a large one for allergies in my bedroom but have yet to see if it helps with cigarette smoke.

You could have management come by and smell it, like I saw a few comments before the smell stays and can do significant damage to the apartment, especially in a confined space like the bathroom so to avoid damage the tentants can be warned not to smoke inside to avoid paying for damages.

godspeed bro! fighting an invisible enemy like trich/mold can be extremely frustrating/disheartening. if you have the means, maybe invest in a hepa filter? dunno how effective they are, but maybe it'll give you peace of mind. i have that model (for non-mycology purposes) and i'll run it for an hour before sterile operations and have yet to deal with contam. keeping fingers big time crossed

Winix are probably some of the best, but the ones with UV-C are more expensive.

I've noticed as a smoker that the UV-C component makes a huge difference with the smell. The only issue that I don't know about, is apparently UV-C creates ozone, and that can be irritating to people with asthma.

I personally have the Germ Guardian AC4825 and it works pretty well. Has a small footprint but is about 30" tall. Only complaint is the UV-C switch broke. Replacement filters are expensive but there are generics on amazon that are cheaper. Look around for deals, you can find these refurbished occasionally for $50 each.

if it's one pax in the back, slightly crack rear window on opposite side to draw air away from both of you and out of the car. Make sure you are not forcing AC to draw from inside the car and recirculate. Make it draw from outside - ya, it'll be fractionally less cool but it's fresh air.

If all rear seats are full, crack front passenger side window to draw all air in the car away from you and them and out.

Nobody sits up front. period. full stop.

If you are HIGH RISK, you might consider investing in a HEPA and UV filter and a inverter so you can run a room filter in the car.

I have a germ guardian and a small inverter sitting on my center console and use bungee cords to keep it in place but at the end of the shift, I pull it out and take it inside. I also have one of those plexi screens and a voodoo doll blessed by an authentic tarot card, palm reader and voodoo priestess from little havana. SHe gave me some 'special' incense to burn too - washes away bad spirits, bad juju and viruses.

I'm all set.

Seriously tho - a good hepa filter may give you and your pax a little extra peace of mind.

Close off areas of your home where you aren't, put the filters where you are. I have one of these and it works well for the living room (live in a 1-bedroom apartment).

We have two Germ Guardian air purifiers (one in the living room and one in our "pet room") to help with my SO's allergies and stinky ferret smells from our two ferrets. They work awesome (also haven't randomly exploded) and significantly reduce pet smells. We have the same problem- everything is fine in fall/winter/spring because we can crack open the windows but as soon as summer comes, all of the smells become trapped in our apartment.

I've found that running our robot vacuum (that has a HEPA filter in it) daily also does wonders for maintaining the "clean" smell). I hate vacuuming so it's nice to just turn it on and not have to worry about it. We also have a Bissell Crosswave which vacuums and mops at the same time (the ferrets like to rub themselves on our rugs like the little cat snakes they are and spread their stinkiness)- it's been a total game changer from having to sprinkle carpet deodorizer and go through that whole ordeal weekly to just being able to essentially steam the rugs clean with a swipe of the vacuum!

I got this 3 years ago when it was top seller. https://www.amazon.com/GermGuardian-AC4825-Sanitizer-Allergens-Guardian/dp/B004VGIGVY But it seem the newer ones aren't good anymore.

So I'm looking for a Coway AP-1512HH Mighty or Coway Airmega 200M. Top 2 at https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-air-purifier/

Coway Airmega 200M have been on sale for $109-119 Coway AP-1512HH Mighty has been on sale for $116.

So I put an alert for those any probably buy two if they are on sale again.

For my main area (apartment living room/dining room/kitchen), I bought this Honeywell HPA300 . Keep and eye out for price drops on this as it will go back on sale eventually.

And I also have a Germ Guardian AC4825 for a small bedroom where the litter boxes are. This is an older model that goes out of stock periodically.

I haven’t had issues with either of them, I try to clean the charcoal filters out every 3-4 weeks, and also clean the apartment regularly with sweeping and vacuuming. The HPA300 is rated for my main area square footage, but because it’s so open and there’s a hallway, I think there would be even more of an impact with a second one, but it does a really good job considering. Don’t buy into the bad review bots talking about burning plastic smells etc. Dumb Dumbs don’t know how to remove plastic from the hepa filters before turning it on. There is a sort of warehouse-y type smell for the first day of running, but it goes away.

this one has served us well for 6 years but it only covers 167sqft and seems to be out of stock. This ships quickly but only covers 107sqft but is only $79.

If you can spare a bit more it would probably be more worth it to get something that will cover a wider space, especially with how the air quality is this week and possibly for the next month or so if they still can't contain the bobcat fire

Its a bit noisy but does the trick. I use that in tandem with an Innogear Essential oil diffuser. Works like magic. This Orange Cream from Eden gardens is wonderful.

The smell does depend on the mouse. I had brothers who didn't smell the same.

If you go with a wire cage, the odor will escape more into the room.

A tank or bin cage will keep the smell contained more. As long as you keep up with the cleaning so the ammonia doesn't build up he will be fine.

Here is a guide on proper housing...

Pet Mouse Fanciers - Proper Housing

Mice are more relaxed when they can smell their own scent. It means they are home and no one else is claiming their space.

When you dump spoiled bedding, reserve a cup of it to sprinkle on top of the clean bedding. If you don't, he will mark everything to re-establish his scent. You may need to reserve more than a cup if your habitat is larger than a 20 gallon tank. So too clean is just as bad as not clean at all.

Here is a guide on habitat maintenance...

Pet Mouse Fanciers - Cleaning, Odor, and Bedding

A HEPA air purifier is a good idea for your room. It will help with odors and also keep the air cleaner for you when you sleep. Ammonia from theor urine and drive saliva on their coat from grooming create allergens in the room.

Talk to your parents about getting one. They are a good idea regardless of having pets in the room. I listed some of the better ones below plus some other products that can help...
