Liquid nutrients to mix in when you water. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-Flora-Bloom-Fertilizer/dp/B017H73708

Get this and make sure you follow mixing instructions. If you're using soil you dont need calmag. Also if its auto flower only do 1/3 the dose maybe even less. Good luck!

I have a super healthy red robin cherry tom growing in a one liter mason jar, so don't feel like you need a huge container. That could absolutely work, but again you will run into nutrient deficiencies with flowering plants unless you shell out for a full set of nutrients like these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017H73708/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_O0BOEbWZ5DAPD

Hey there! I use General Hydroponics on Amazon. This here You just use a tiny amount of each of these in a gallon of water.

The way I do it (everyone does it differently) is I put nutrient water in the reservoir as soon as I pot it up in Leca. Every other time I use regular water. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info! This is the first time I've ever tried growing anything.

I have some time release granular 10-10-10 that I was planning to put in a ring around the slips.

I also have some general hydroponics 3-part liquid fertilizer that I had bought for an indoor hydroponics grow that I am planning to do (vegetables, not medicinal). Would you recommend that I give the slips a quick dose of the liquid feed?

I also have some sulfate of potash, but was planning on giving that's later in the season to help it bulk up tubers. Would you recommend that?

Thanks!!

Simplest DIY would be the Kratky Method. You can use 2 liter soda bottles to start with (look up YouTube videos) before graduating to a bottle/basket/pebbles system. Other than that, a grow lights/sunny spot, pick up some Flora Grow.

Ok,

Seedlings are very fragile, so don’t get too disappointed if it fails, practice with chilli peppers ( seeds are much cheaper ) and the plant grows in a similar way for its first month.

Autos can be transplanted , it’s just not recommended because you run the risk of killing your yield ( same reason you shouldn’t top autos ), I don’t transplant because i have a lot going on and I can’t risk ending up having to transplant 4-16 plants on the same day as a harvest.

if you are going soil less you now actually have a learning curve,

I recommend that you look up a proper nutrient schedule, also soil acts as a buffer ( I.e. changes in water parameters do not take effect immediately, so you have room for error )

You should be testing your runoff and input water in the long term, ( so you can calculate what your next but you shouldn’t be watering to the point of runoff at this stage since your seedlings need dry conditions to trigger root growth, roots cannot burrow in mud )

Now I’m not 100% sure what medium you run. I run soil at 6.5 and dwc at 5.8, but a quick google should tell you what ph your media needs to be.

At the very least you should have on hand for the grow:

Ph up / ph down

Ph water meter

Dechlorinator ( i use API aquarium water conditioner )

A 3 part nutrient mix ( I use this https://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-Flora-Bloom-Fertilizer/dp/B017H73708/ref=sr_1_4?crid=9E44MPNUBJJK&dchild=1&keywords=general+hydroponics+nutrients&qid=1590197446&s=lawn-garden&sprefix=General+hydrop%2Clawngarden%2C206&sr=1-4 )

Black molasses

Flushing solution ( I use advanced nutrients flawless finish )

Spinosad ( natural pest control, you can mix it in with your nute mix )

Now something that ALL internet guides miss: Measuring tools ( I have a bunch of syringes, jugs, pippettes, and beakers. , you wanna be able to easily measure out the following “common” measurements, 1,2,3,5,20,25,38,40,45,50,60,75,80,100ml, 1/4,1/2,1,2,5 gallons )

Most of my knowledge of organic grown cannabis comes from watching this man's videos. Highly (hehe) recommend checking his videos out.

Short story long if you were going to go organic (natural nutrients) this decision should have been made before mixing your beginning soil because the whole point of this kind of grow is to generate microbial life in the medium. Youre making a little ecosystem much like a forest floor and this ecosystem has each others' back in terms of what job they do and how they support other plants. Organic in such a way is considered the easiest - more low maintenance in terms of labor and feeding schedules way to do things. BUT it seems to require a more advanced knowledge base to execute.

How long have you been growing your girls? Precharged soils can last up to a month but just coco and perlite would mean the plant is living off its cotyledon and there's not much in there.

With all that said I think you're going to be using liquid nutrients this run and gen hyrdo is going to be your industry standard, trusted but not exactly praised nutrient line. Neither organic nor liquid nutes will stress your plant or make it harder or easier - your ability to read and anticipate your plants' needs will be the culprit here. So cram as much knowledge as you can into your head, remember that plants have strong regenerative properties and try not to stress yourself out or you might turn yellow.

I have about 10 plants in hydroponics. I have 5 in a 25 gallon Deep Water Culture (DWC) setup. Its very similar to krakty but it uses an air pump. The plants are in 6in net cups with expanded clay pebble medium. I really like the General hydroponics nutrients. The quart sizes lasted me about a year with 5 plants.

For more learning, I would suggest checking Khang Starr's video and channel on youtube. He has lots of great videos for general growing outdoor and indoor.

Unfortunately this was just a technique inspired by the folks at r/hydroponics and I don’t have a link to share, but I’ll be glad to share the process. This was a pepper started in potting mix. It was about 5 months old when I migrated it from pot to jar.

-started from seed back in January. Transferred to small pot with potting mix after about a month

-neglected it for the next 4 months. Barely watered. Thought I killed it at least 3 times

-decided I got tired of the pot sitting on the grass and killing anything below it

-removed from pot and rinsed off all the potting mix

-put in 3” net pot and added hydroton (clay pebbles. Links below). Placed in a wide mouth mason jar with hydroponic nutrient mix and wrapped jar in foil (this helps prevent algae growth)

-the roots were massive and started experiencing root rot after a few days

-trimmed off all but 1/4” of roots and replaced hydroponic nutrient mix

-watched in amazement as lil man started flowering like crazy after sprouting new roots

Everything I used was ordered from Amazon (except the wide mouth jar)

For your first grow go with GH trio you can get a quart of each for like $5 more than your link for the pints or you can get gallons for like $35 each. You’re going to use the most of bloom then micro then grow and you’ll need at least a quart of bloom if you’re doing 5 gallon dwc.

Bloom I used around 1 ounce every 7-10 days in veg and around 2 ounces every 7-10 days in flower per 5 gallon bucket.

No worries, I love talking about growing stuff lol. I really like that 3-part flora series, it's been the gold standard for hydroponics forever and it works great with soil and soilless mixes too. It works with basically any plant since you can adjust the ratios of the 3 bits to customize it all the way from seedlings up through fruiting.

https://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-Flora-Bloom-Fertilizer/dp/B017H73708

At the 1:1:1 general purpose ratio this 3 pack will make 192 gallons of nutrient solution. This is what I use for all my houseplants and leafy plants. I follow the feed chart for my indoor fruiting plants like peppers & tomatoes. If you go through the whole chart you'll end up using a lot more bloom than the other 2 parts.

Another great option from general hydro that is simpler to use is their dry Maxi series. MaxiGro (10-5-14) and MaxiBloom (5-15-14) are complete nutrients including all micronutrients and pretty cheap. They are used at 1-2 tsp gallon each for half/full strength.
https://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-718281-718301-Fertilizer/dp/B01GLV51NC

At 1 tsp/gallon the 1kg bag will make 200 gallons. Most houseplants and leafy greens will be happy with 1 tsp/gal of MaxiGro. MaxiBloom is for flowering and fruiting plants and I use it for my outdoor tomatoes and peppers for the entire season. 1 tsp/gal for peppers, 2 tsp/gal for tomatoes. Don't even have to supplement CalMag with these typically. The only downside to these is you really have to mix them to get them to completely dissolve while the flora series is liquid and just mixes right in. Dissolving them in a cup of hot water before dumping in the rest of the water helps.

At this stage that won't need too much, its possible that the soil does have enough nutrients for now. The yellowing leaves can indicate low Nitrogen. Depending on your situation and access, you can use fish emulsion or any fertilizer with N-P-K nutrients, like a Miracle Gro for vegetables or General Hydroponics .

A coco/perlite mix + general hydroponics nutes is pretty forgiving for a first grow. If you have issues, you can correct them quickly. If you go this route, you'll need additional CalMag.

r/trees • comment

I use the general hydroponics trio and miracle gro potting soil for my plants.

The reason there are 3 bottles of nutes is that the plants need different nutrients at different times. Flowering needs a different n/p/k ratio then veg growth. It's hard to do that with a one bottle system.

Read more on nutes here

I'm experimenting with that right now, actually and it's going very well. :)

Principles should be the same as hydroponics so I'm using hydroponic-specific nutrient and adding small dosages to my water propagated pothos vase and topping with distilled water as it runs low. Hydroponic-specific nutrient is great since it also includes the other micro-nutrients (outside of NPK).

In my research, I've found the General Hydroponics system to be widely used. It's a system that includes the correct ratios for the different stages your plant is in (cutting/seed vs. leafy growth vs. flowering). The manufacturer suggests a 1:1:1 of all of them if you're unsure. I'm currently doing 1/16 tsp per gallon of each for my cutting and steadily increasing it. My pothos is doing really well and so are my newer cuttings.

Just remember to use distilled water for your nutrient mix since the trace chlorine and fluoride in tap/filter water is not good for plants. And also balance your pH to somewhere between 5.5 to 6.5 for houseplants. Still-water exposed to the air (namely carbon dioxide) can naturally get acidic over time too -- so just be aware of that. General Hydroponics also sells a pH kit for adjusting your water which works great.

Help with nutrients

So I'm following this guide and it says to use these nutrients at half strength along with this. Are all of these really that necessary? Its over sixty dollars for all of it and I'm new to this so I really don't know what I need. Is there cheaper nutrients I can use that are compatible with that guide?

I use the General Hydroponics Gro/Micro/Bloom fertilizer trio (you can find on amazon or on their website), since I just transitioned my plants last month I've only started introducing nutrients in the past \~2 weeks, and I am starting with about half the recommended amount for seedlings/cuttings (instructions on bottles are really clear!). I feed new nutrients once every two weeks, and top up the reservoir with pH corrected water in between nutrient feedings. I really like this system, while there are three bottles it really does feel pretty straightforward! Here's a good vid by MinimalistCali on youtube if you want to see what this system is like to use!

Get this. If you don't ph the water with your nutes, the roots wont uptake crucial nutrients.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RRTZ8LF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Add your nutes to the water, I usually mix them in a gallon bottle. Once your nutes are mix in, phd the water. Depending on where you live some tap water have higher or lower ph. Adjust to 5.5 - 6.0

Also use this, you can see how much minerals is in your tap water and how much is coming out the pot.

Ph adjuster liquids

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BNKWZY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

These are the base nutrients I use, add the micro 1st, then the flora 2nd, and last add the bloom. I heard good things from foxfarm, both great companies

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017H73708?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Coco seems complicated but it really isn't, you have all the control. Number 1 rule always ph your water!

Feedback on my shopping cart - first grow

Looking for feedback on my shopping list for a first grow. if you guys could point out anything missing, better options, or better sizes let me know! Off the top off my head, im missing

  • TDS meter (just don't feel like i need it, am i wrong?)

  • clip on fans (do i need it? i assume my inline fan will suck air into the tent and out of the tent)

Growing space: A large, unused bathroom

Growing purpose: Personal use, 1 or 2 plants.

I'm planning a first time grow and I was hoping to have someone run through my planned list of supplies to make sure that it could support my plant arrangement.

I'll be growing autos in 3 gallon smart pots, maybe 2 - 4 in a 4x2 tent. I'll be using this 4 inch fan and carbon filter and I'm thinking 2x actual draw 300w lights. I saw a few good formulas to use GH's Fora, Grow, Bloom line with. Would that arrangement be fine or would 4 be too many plants? And would I even need nutrients on top of FFOF?

Hey friend, while I cannot comment on the legalities of growing in your home region I can certainly recommend a few things to start your own grow.

I do a ton of research whenever I get into stuff so I started with a handfull of books and websites to get going.

The Cannabis Encyclopedia: The Definitive Guide to Cultivation & Consumption of Medical https://www.amazon.ca/Cannabis-Encyclopedia-Definitive-Cultivation-Consumption/dp/1878823345

Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible https://www.amazon.ca/Marijuana-Horticulture-Outdoor-Medical-Growers/dp/187882323X

Additionally did a bunch of reading on these primary websites but there is a ton of info out there on the intertubes https://www.growweedeasy.com/10-step-cannabis-grow-guide and https://www.reddit.com/r/microgrowery/

High level overview. I am running roughly this setup with some different parts in a 8x4 tent for 8 plants

  • buy some seeds I did a bit of digging and picked a few strains from https://www.truenorthseedbank.com/ and https://www.seedsman.com/
  • buy a grow tent https://www.amazon.ca/VIVOSUN-Hydroponic-Observation-Window-Growing/dp/B07PJ4VWF7
  • buy a decent light ( full spectrum so you don't have to dick around with multiple light settings ) https://www.amazon.ca/MARS-HYDRO-Dimmable-2-5x2-5ft-Efficient/dp/B07NKT2VRD/
  • buy some extension cords
  • buy an indoor power timer ( if your light / tent doesnt come with one ) https://www.amazon.com/Century-Indoor-24-Hour-Mechanical-Outlet/dp/B01LPSGBZS
  • buy some small clip fans that will help distribute the air in the tent
  • buy a fan / filter combo to pump air out of the tent and clean the smell so your house / basement doesn't have odour https://www.amazon.ca/VIVOSUN-Inline-Control-Australia-Charcoal/dp/B07B3RNW35/
  • buy some cococoir or whatever soil mix you like or is cheap for you. I went with coco coir after a bunch of research and followed this watering schedule with some adjustments https://www.growweedeasy.com/how-often-to-water-coco-coir
  • buy some nutrients and follow the correct nutrient schedule. Also read the books as they will tell you what is going on with your plants by examining the leaves and the plant structure. https://www.growweedeasy.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/coco-coir-flora-series-schedule.pdf

For regular nutrients https://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-Flora-Bloom-Fertilizer/dp/B017H73708

Calcium is deficient in cococoir so you have to adjust https://www.amazon.com/Preparado-nutrientes-jardiner%C3%ADa-hidrop%C3%B3nica-Hydroponics/dp/B00TDSEQI2/

The water in my house has high PH so I lower it using https://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-Liquid-Fertilizer-1-Gallon/dp/B000FG0F9U/

  • buy a ph / nutrient meter combo https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-0-05ph-Accuracy-Readout-Temperature/dp/B06XKMH86J/
  • buy a bucket and a nice watering can so you can premix your nutrients + water and then just dunk the watering can in the bucket and fill.
  • buy some fabric pots https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-5-Pack-Thickened-Nonwoven-Handles/dp/B00TF9E6XE/
  • buy some plastic cups for the germination stage

Once you have all that jazz you need to germinate your seeds - I use https://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-Rapid-Rooter-Replacement/dp/B0002IU8K2/ - Then I put them into a germination dome for them to get big enough to repot https://www.amazon.com/KORAM-Seedling-Starting-Germination-Greenhouse/dp/B01LX0JBUU/

When your seedlings start vegetating nicely and you have a few inches of a solid plant coming out. Repot into the bigger pots, set your vegetation light schedule on 20 hours on 4 hours off and start following the nutrient / watering schedule.

When your guys get big enough for the size of your tent or you want to flip them to start turning into flowers. Change light schedule from 20/4 to 12/12 and in a few weeks they will start flowering if all goes well.

Then just baby till completion and enjoy.

It's not as hard or intimidating as it sounds you just need to prepare the space, tools and equipment and do reading on how to react to nutrient needs / deficiencies of your plants by observing their look and feel. Lots of fun !
