On this product page, scroll down to the section "From the Manufacturer" and there is a description of how to use Q-Flash Plus to update your bios. If you are looking for q-flash button in step 5 it is in the bottom left of the motherboard next to the RGB header.

I looked into the X570 Aorus Elite but reviews on amazon discouraged me, if you think their problems were user related you can check them out here, they should be on the top reviews for U.S.

The Aorus x570 elite is currently $489 on Amazon. Again, it's not exactly an easy thing for everyone to just double the price of their mobo.

Let's also make this very clear: the VRM test you're referring to tested the mobos at 125W, 165W, and 225W. The "failure" of the MSI boards was at 225w. For the average consumer buying an MSI board who isn't going to be doubling the wattage through it, the MSI boards ran in the 90s, which is reasonable for an open bench test even if it isn't on the level of something like the Aorus Elite. It's not going to cause any kind of longterm harm to the board or your components in it.

I don't mind people spreading information like this, but the way you did it is sensationalist and won't affect a lot of builders.

For a fully compatible motherboard you can do This Gigabyte AORUS Elite X570

In stock July 2

As for X570 vs B550, the B550 line is an upgraded version of B450 and may be a tad cheaper, however with new motherboard chipsets come the issue of bugs until they get them running smoothly which can take a month in some cases. I would suggest X570 nonetheless as you won’t have to wait or worry about any kind of issues like that.

I took a look at the manual and I see what you're talking about. They only show the 30 pin connector. However, I own this case and am using it with my current build. It has a cable coming from the front panel which is a USB 3.1 gen 2 cable, which connects to the port that I posted in my original port.

And I'll take a look into a x570 chipset board! Thank you for the recommendation on that.

Edit: Found this board that fits what I'm looking for. Do you have any thoughts on this? https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-X570-AORUS-PCIe4-0-Motherboard/dp/B07SVRZGMX/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3JKVD6U6KNRXB&keywords=x570+motherboard&qid=1580960104&sprefix=x570%2Caps%2C215&sr=8-3

This is extremely overkill and a waste of money. Just because they have a high budget doesn't mean they need to blow it all uselessly.

The user is not overclocking

A $550+ motherboard is an incredible waste of money. A better option would be the Gigbyte Aorus Elite which has good reviews and is a very popular board. This saves us over $350.

16 TB of data on a single disk is a nightmare.

u/defallen1 should clarify the needs of storage here. Most times if you're storing multiple terabytes of project files, you want them to be in some sort of redundant array, especially backed up to a separate location.

Will OP be pulling project files remotely and be able to get away with a second 2 TB SSD or something? Or will they need a large backup?

If they need a large backup, a better option would be to get a RAID card, but that would also necessitate something like a 3970X so we can take advantage or more PCIe slots. Otherwise, we can look into a NAS solution that's either prebuilt or can be custom built.

Titan RTX might be a waste of money, and we may need more RAM

Puget Systems "Hardware Recommendations for After Effects CC"

Two main things:

 1. The TITAN RTX basically performs the same as the 2080 Ti, so it might be worth it to save over $1,000 here.

 2. Doing 4K30 FPS playback at 16bpc for 60 seconds, we see it near 100 GB of RAM. Because of this, we should ask OP what kind of work they are doing (resolution, time, bpc) to determine if moving to TR for more RAM.

Number 2 isn't that important, but number 1 is most important. For half the price you can go with an aftermarket MSI 2080 Ti with a much better cooler.

From the same Puget recommendations, 11 GB of VRAM should be more than enough:

> While a higher-end GPU may not give significantly higher raw performance, it is essential that your video card has enough VRAM or video card memory for your projects. However, unless you have multiple 4K displays, even 4GB of VRAM should be plenty. Since all the video cards we currently offer for After Effects have at least 6GB of VRAM, this should not be a concern for most users.

There are 3 main types of mobos that fit the AM4 platform, b450, b550 and x570. B450 is the cheapest, b550 is the middle, and x570 is usually the most expensive.

The biggest issue/complication with getting a b450 Mobo is that your probably going to need a BIOS update, which is kinda complicated(you need an older 1st or 2nd gen cpu). B550 & x570 both already have the updated from factory, so it's not going to be much of an issue (other than price) *I recommend b550* Here are some of each:

Yes the 3200 CAS16 is way better than the 2400 CAS15

For running a 580/590/2060SUPER, I'd rather you get a new power supply. The Antec 500HE first came out in 2005. PSUs do degrade over time. While I'd be confident reusing that PSU in a lower power build, I'm not so sure with reusing that with a 6core and an RX580 which can draw a lot of power.

The modern Corsairs (RM650) or seasonics (Focus+ 650W) should be a good place to start.

My take on the GPU is this:

If you only plan to stick with 1080p, then a 580 or a 590 will be good for now. If you do want to go 1440p then I think you have to get the 2060 SUPER at minimum.

It looks like a great build!

There are just a few changes I would personally suggest.

First of all, I very much agree with u/theepicflyer's comment.

I understand the idea of wanting to go with Intel, but as of now unless you have a particular reason to, it's almost like throwing money away, because aside from gaming Ryzen 2 offers so much more for a lower price.I too suggest a Ryzen 3700X, because there's no real reason to prefer the 3800X over it (expecially since it doesn't look like you are thinking about doing serious overclocking, judging on your cooler choice). If you really want to spend more money, just double the RAM to 32 GB instead imo.

Regarding the motherboard however, I really believe that, if you go with Ryzen, you would want to go with a X570 chipset: I would suggest either the ASRock X570 Steel Legend or the X570 Aorus Elite (both $179@Amazon); also the Asus TUF mobo is good enough, but stay away from the MSI. I wouldn't suggest going with cheaper models, and at the same time you'd have no reason to go with anything more expensive. The reason I'm recommeding X570 is PCIe 4.0: although you will probably find no need for it at the moment, this way you're keeping your road open for future upgradeability.

Lastly, as he said, swap the SSD for a NVMe stick: both the models he suggested are great: I personaly have a 2TB Sabrent Rocket one and it's just great. The price is the same if not cheaper, it's way faster and (the Sabrent, $139.99@Amazon at least) is definitely reliable too. In 2020 there's really no reason to still be installing SSDs in new builds if they're <= 1 TB.

I don't really know about the case, but I too suggest you check out GamersNexus' review if there's one because nobody in the world reviews cases in such a professional and thorough manner as they do.

The only other thing I would change in your build is the cooler (and I probably consider this to be the most important suggestion): I too had my eyes on the ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO for my own build, before I discovered Scythe: their coolers compete with Noctua's both at a performance and at a noise levels, and cost as much as the Arctic ($49.99 - $59.99@Amazon). They're also way easier to mount, which can be a pro if this is your first build. The better model is the Scythe Fuma 2, which should also have the best compatibility, but the Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B too would be a great choice. Here's the Tweaktown's reviews: Fuma 2 and Mugen 5 Rev. B.

Everything else you've chosen is just great:

3200 CL16 memory is the sweet spot imo, and it will leave you a bit of headroom in case you ever want to tighten up timings (for 1-2 fps maximum anyways...).16 GB is definitely enough, and you'll always be able to buy two more sticks if needed (you'll never need to go over 32 GBs if not for professional uses in any case).

The SuperNova G3 is an awesome PSU and extremely reliable.

The RTX 2070 Super is at the moment the best card you can buy for that budget, and in most scenarios it would probably be a more considerate purchase than the RTX 2080 Super anyways (unless you want to spend more than $250 extra for \~20 more fps).

Good luck with your build, and keep us updated!

Overclocking is something that you have to deliberately to make a computer faster, it's not something a weak computer does on it's own.

I personally have 2 computers that are about 10 years old, and have been heavily overclocked and still run fine. That said, overclocking does make your computer take more power and produce more heat which can degrade it's lifespan, especially if it's not properly cooled.

Honestly at 1080P, anything beyond an Nvidia 2060 is pointless. Even the 2060 should be able to hit 120hz on high settings, if not ultra. Most 120+hz TVs can't even take an actual 120hz signal.

Now if you want to spend $1500 to beef up the build, you're not going to notice much difference with a better graphics card. If you buy a really expensive graphics card, the price will drop drastically when the next gen comes out. I don't personally game, so I bought a $115 graphics card years ago, and sold it for $85 years later. This $300 graphics card will probably sell for at least $180 in a year. Meanwhile an $800 card, might go for $300. If your really want a better graphics card just in case, I'd say a 2060 Super or 2070.

For $50-$60, 2TB extra storage with a hard drive is not a bad idea.

This SSD is $70, and it's basically one of the fastest on the market. This should lower your load times, and make your computer feel as fast possible. The difference won't be drastic, but it will help you squeeze that last ounce of performance.

AMD used to not support RAM beyond DDR4-3200, and the ability to run on lower motherboards was limited. AMD has now released new updates that make speeds up to DDR4-3600 more viable. Faster RAM will help you squeeze out another last ounce of performance, for another $5-$7.

Earlier I mentioned:

>Asus and Gigabyte make excellent X570 boards. These are good choices if you get a processor with 8 cores or more. This 6 core processor is awesome, and will easily run anything. You could upgrade to a 3700X if you want an 8 core processor. The gaming performance will be comparable.

If you want to upgrade to 8 cores and an X570 board will cost around $150-$200. It won't improve your gaming performance, but it can improve your streaming performance. It can also improve performance with other tasks like video editing. The higher end motherboard isn't necessary, but will certainly improve your computers longevity and upgrade-ability. Good X570 motherboards are consistently out of stock, but my suggestion based on current availability would be the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite.

I've upgraded the power supply to a very high quality one, that will also be able to accommodate future upgrades.

The case can be substituted with any ATX case that fits your tastes. I will recommend having at least 3 case fans. Spending money on case fans is never unwise, especially if they're below $15 each.

If you're into RGB, there's no shortage of RGB accessories out there, RGB fans are especially popular.
