It will work fine, but I wouldn’t recommend it, MSI and Gigabyte make an entry level B450 for $75 those I could recommend

I was in a similar situation as you a few months ago. I used an i5-7600K for 2 years, and I just upgraded to a Ryzen 5-3600.

Personally, I only paid $100 for my motherboard. It was a THIS B450. Glad I went for the B450 because I don't overclock much and AMD announced that the B450 will support the new 4000 series when it comes out.

I googled this but can’t find a straightforward answer. Will the new Ryzen 3 3300X need a bios update to work on this motherboard?

Since I’m not a computer expert by any means, is it okay if I send a link to the Amazon page from where I bought it?

I want to be able to play Red Dead Redemption two, mainly, but I know that is going to be expensive to be able to achieve.

I would get a higher core processor, you could get 3200Mhz CL16 2x8 Gb kit of ram for around 60, and maybe this if you want to save money on your mobo.

Is that Gigabyte B450M DS3H (AMD Ryzen AM4/M.2/HMDI/DVI/USB 3.1/DDR4/Micro ATX/Motherboard) possible

I have the Gigabyte B450M DS3H

r/buildapc • comment
1 points • DerpMaster2

Absolutely. R6 Siege is easy to run for systems of that price point.

Ryzen 3 3200G, 16GB of RAM (recommended 3000MHz or more), an RX 570 or 580, and this motherboard with whatever Micro ATX case you want.

Do keep in mind that if you want a little bit more space for add-on cards (like WiFi and Ethernet cards), you're going to want a full size ATX motherboard with a case to match.

awesome, I actually have that exact monitor as a 2nd monitor and love it. would this mobo also work? the one linked is currently out of stock on amazon and I guess we're trying to order through there.

Ryzen 3rd gen doesn't work on A320 boards out of the box and might not work at all.

I would recommend a B450 board like this one.

Gigabyte B450M DS3H:

A tad bit more expensive but should do the job, you can also get a bit more performance out of it if you want(plz Overclock at your own discretion, I will not be responsible for what ever you do to the PC)

Yeah, i'm set on that 3200 CL16. Won't I run into VRM issues but chosing a cheap board like a this

Yeah, I don't plan overclocking. Also, would the stock cooler do fine?

It is likely your motherboard. I have seen this same problem with MSI before. Here is a motherboard in your price range. GIGABYTE B450M DS3H (AMD Ryzen AM4/Micro ATX/M.2/HMDI/DVI/USB 3.1/DDR4/Motherboard)

That has to do with the BIOS updates. At this point, almost all new B450 boards will ship with the updated BIOS so you won't have to worry about that. You can double check with the manufacturer to be sure.

Also, this board may work just as well for you and is a little cheaper. (by $17).

Yeah the 3390x has been out of stock everywhere, but I think I will get the 3100. However, I am also buying a B450,which I've heard would require an update to be compatible with the Zen 2 architecture. If my mother oard would require this update, how would I update the BIOS without the CPU?

The motherboard may need a BIOS update to support the Ryzen 3600X CPU.

does support ryzen 5 3600 ? without BIOS update?
Lately yes. the last 3 dozen we order from amazon came with the Ryzen 3000 ready. If it doesn't have the sticker you have to update Bios

Is the price increase for the B550 worth it over a 450? for example

To your previous question, having noticed that comment was deleted:

Depends on your form factor, I'm currently using a lower end Gigabyte B450 mATX motherboard and am having no trouble with it, although that's going to change soon since I'm about to upgrade to an r7 3700x.

I'm probably going to go with this one when I do.

Really that one I can't advise on much, these days motherboards from reputable vendors are mostly good overall, and it comes down to taste and specific features you value.

Will the processor work on that motherboard? - Yes

Is it good? - this is subjective, but in my opinion it's an awful choice.

The AMD B450 Gigabyte DS3H is obviously a comparable board, and $8 less.

The i5-8400 is a horrible value at $230. An AMD processor at less than half the price will outperform it. A Ryzen 3600X which is $25 less has almost double the performance. Comparison.

For $30 less, you can have double the performance. It's only a good combo if you somehow manage to get it for half off or less.

Save up and buy PC parts to build a PC yourself.

To get a PC that can at least play WoW, it'll be less than $500 US.

You can get a 3200g or a 3400g Ryzen CPU, whichever you can find. Then get a motherboard that can handle it. I built my mother a PC using old parts and a 3400g. Her Motherboard is an old B350 board I updated the Bios on.

So the 3400g is $140 on Amazon. A B450 motherboard you can get for less than $100. This one for example:

This ram:

Buy a Power Supply for about $60.

An SSD like this:

Find a case in your price range. Let's say 50-75 bucks. So let's go with 75 just for this case.

You wont be playing WoW at ultra settings or anything, but I doubt you were doing that before.

This is just a random build I threw together in a couple minutes. With more research you can find something to suit your tastes and budget better.

OK, bare with me while I figure this out.

The 1600AF is this, right? AMD Ryzen 5 1600 65W AM4 Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler Wraith Spire - No LED (YD1600BBAFBOX)

And the b450 is this? Gigabyte B450M DS3H (AMD Ryzen AM4/M.2/HMDI/DVI/USB 3.1/DDR4/Micro ATX/Motherboard)

So I assume you’re saying that it doesn’t make sense to upgrade the GPU now because the CPU is actually the primary thing limiting performance?

What GPU would you recommend alongside these other parts? In another thread someone recommended I just get an SSD and a used RX 580 (but didn’t say anything about the CPU). Do you think getting an RX 580 wouldn’t make sense without the new cpu/mobo?
