Alright in that case, for about $5 extra you can get this RAM which is black instead of grey.

Do you think this version would be compatible with an ASUS prime B450M-A motherboard w/o overclocking?

I have a Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 and I want to upgrade to a R5 3600. Is it worth it, or should I get a new motherboard?

First and Foremost, here's the current specs:

I am within a reasonable distance between 2 Microcenters and I'm itching to do a refresh on my system. My question is simple though; is it worth keeping the same mobo and just upgrading the processor and ram (was thinking R5 3600 obviously and G Skill Ripjaws 2x8gb DDR4 3200)? Or should I upgrade my mobo too? Some of the choices i'm seeing as far as upgrades go seem expensive, and i'd be missing out on some of my SATA ports as well as USB ports, which I use, but I also don't want to spend more than 100 bucks on a new mobo if I don't have to.

However, I don't know how stable the 3600 would be on this board. I've heard some people had issues with nvme drives and ram issues.

I can sacrifice the nvme drive for now, but does anyone have any long term stable experience with this board and the 3600 and that or similar ram?

I got https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015FXXBW0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 RAM.

CPUZ is saying the ram timing is 1066. Is that normal? Will it go up when I turn a game on?

Your ram isn't a very good choice. It's only 2666 MHz while your ryzen CPU will favour some more. Get something like this instead, 1 kit of 2 3200mhz sticks for $30 less

Regarding your PSU, pretty sure the TX are great quality (and expensive) units. You could probably get away with spending a little less, but if you want a top quality psu go for it, it's important to have a psu of decent quality

Everything looks pretty good but a few things. I recommend going Ryzen over Intel and getting a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, better cost/efficiency and it should run better. I would change out your video card (unnecessarily expensive) for a Nvidia rtx 2060 s. Also, I would get a b450 tomahawk max mobo, but you need to wait until it is within $130-$150, the prices for mobos are fluctuating and going in and out of stock daily. For the cpu, 16gb of quality ddr4 ram is good enough, 32gb is serious overkill.

Ram:

Ryzen 5 3600 vs. Intel i5-10600k:

https://youtu.be/yCcfgcjMFNk

Both have the same thread count and cores, both are overclockable.

Ok I'll flash the BIOS when I get a chance today. (Plenty of time to build up anxiety that the power will go out for the first time in over a year on a bright sunny afternoon like today.) Also here's the model of the RAM sticks along with the amazon link to them.

Wow, prices sure are high over there.

That's an excellent set of RAM and I've actually owned it before. Only reason I sold it at the time was because I was building a separate PC and that RAM was still a breeze to sell at the price I paid for it.

Do you by chance use Newegg or Amazon? That same RAM is just $70-$75 their...

Newegg Gray

Newegg Black

Amazon Black

Hopefully you can use these websites but if not and $90 is the lowest you can find, then by all means, go for the $90 set.

True I could always sell the old stuff to afford the new stuff. I don't want beast of a gaming rig as my friend is also planning on getting a pc so I want to be on an relatively equal footing with him. He doesn't make as much as me (I make roughly $900 a month and he makes $500 a month, neither us live on our own so it's p easy living rn) I'm really just looking for something that is pretty run of the mill without being exceptionally good but not close to being able to be called bad. It's hard for me to describe what exactly I'm looking for as I don't know all to much about the way a PC works and I still have the mindset of a console where everything is the exact same, my ps4 is the same as any other but no 2 PCs are gonna be the exact same unless the two people had the exact same builds. The price point I gave $850 is about the price of one of the unemployment checks I get cause Corona made me lose my job (for the time being). I figured with the (pretty much) free money I am getting I could spend one whole check on a pc and not have to worry about for awhile, I would save more money for the PC but I am gonna try to get a license and a car this year so I need money for both of those things. What I've currently got as the build based off of what people recommend is link one, link 2, link 3, link 4, link 5, link 6, and link 7. I don't know much about PCs so I wouldn't even know where to start when it comes to finding the proper stuff to building my own

This is the build i am planning. I know it’s not too great but I can’t spend more than 1200 right now for the entire setup.

Any thing that sticks out or can be upgraded and still be in budget.

The build is for some gaming and streaming cod, fifa ,pubg etc but mostly for home office ( autocad, 30 +browser tabs ,photoshop, heavy excel use etc)

PS: I don’t care about rbg
