If you have a resistance band then you can do an exercise to work your outer quads.

Exercise: You go down into a squat with the band around your lower quads. Make sure that your knees are perpendicular to the floor. Now walk sideways (like a crab) for about 30 feet by moving one foot about 4” and the other 4”. If you don’t have the space to do that, then get a stronger band and do squat holds.

You can always order resistance bands, they’re great and cheaper than dumbbells for some weight during this time.

I recommend mini resistance bands

You can put them around your ankles, thighs, wrists and work a variety of areas with little equipment and space needed. The longer bands are good too but require something sturdy to wrap them around.

Examples: jumping jacks with mini bands around ankles, glute bridges, kick backs, side steps with bands around thighs. Curls with bands around wrists.

If you're happy to spend a tiny bit of money - I know sometimes this isn't always feasible - I would invest in some resistance bands (or some weights but ergh they can be annoyingly expensive!!). Here's a link to some bands that I think are good, you can use them for some arm and leg workouts. Honestly, even just a walk around the block, around the house, etc, whatever is doable, helps. I'm no expert but I can say that exercise combined with a good diet, determination, water (I suck at this one sometimes though!), and kindness to yourself has gotten me closer to where I want to be. Here if you need some motivation and whatever advice I can give you!

After I gave up trying to find dumbbells I bought some resistance bands. Not exactly the same but can help you get a decent burn! I bought these and they come with a guide and have some online videos too. Not sure which stores everyone else is going to but the Target at Atlantic Station has never had dumbbells in stock when I've been there and I checked quite a bit.

No, that thing is shit because it only allows a single motion. This is what I'm talking about.

Get the band. Cut it so it's not a loop. Then by grasping and end in both hand you can exercise all the important muscles in the forearm by changing the position of your hands relative to each other.

I had a similar problem. I'm using a resistance band (like these) in place of the strap, and it works great. I've been using a couple of binder clips to hold the strap in place, but I'm sure there are better ways. The tension is adjustable, and it sticks to the sleeve better than the included strap.

I guess you could try getting 2 sets for facepulls with the bar, but if you're going to do facepulls maybe you should just get rings instead.

Bands + sliders = amazing Megaformer substitute!

Maybe everyone else is aware, but I wanted to share a discovery I made recently in my COVID-induced fitness desperation.

I've been pretty sedentary and skinnyfat for most of my life, but a few years ago something snapped and I started working out regularly. Even then I'm not the biggest gym junkie, but pre-COVID I worked out 4-6 times a week across a lot of disciplines: lifting, running, barre, yoga, HIIT, etc.

By far my favorite type of workout, though, has always been Megaformer pilates, because of how time-efficient it is. IMO there is no better workout for your core, and it's extremely effective for glutes too.

Megaformer is obviously a no-go now, and I could never do it as frequently as I wanted to anyway because it was so goddamn expensive. But I've found a way to substitute Megaformer workouts very faithfully, to the point that I don't think I'll need to go back to the studio when gyms open back up!

It's really simple. You just need the following things. (And I also love this because like many others I've encountered insane prices/shipping times on kettlebells, dumbbells, etc but my gliders and bands came super quick)

  • Pilates gliders (I have something like this, but paper plates work too)
  • Small resistance bands (something like this)
  • YouTube videos OR create your own routine. I'll post a very speedy routine I did the other day for inspiration below. In terms of YT videos, here are a few that I like. I usually do 2-3 on glute day:
  • Nicole Pearce seems to have a ton of great Megaformer-esque workouts (and her form instructions are great). This video explicitly focuses on band+slider workouts. You can almost always add resistance bands to any of her glider-only videos by looping them around your ankles.
  • A PopSugar vid that uses towels instead of sliders.
  • Haven't tried this one yet (don't love vids that don't include countdown timers) but incorporates both sliders & bands!
  • My wee routine on lazier days. Guidance for all of this is to go as slow as you can - literally, if you could get thru only 1 rep in the full time you'd be a goddess - and never let the resistance band go slack. Bands go around ankles.
    • SET 1, to be done twice on both legs; if you're feeling masochistic, do both sets for one leg right after the other and then switch sides: Single-leg split squat for 45s, then skate for 30s, then pulse for 15s.
    • SET 2, to be done twice on both legs: Reverse lunge for 45s, then skate for 30s, then pulse for 15s.
    • SET 3, to be done twice on both legs: Curtsy lunge for 45s, then pulse for 30s.
    • Then I do some bulgarian split squats not on the gliders to finish off :)

Hope someone out there finds this helpful. I think that because there are a lot more YT fitness videos targeted toward beginners, and this modality is quite challenging, there just isn't as much slider+band content out there, so it took me a while to figure out.

If you have resistance bands like these (the non handled, circular ones), you can do the arms toning without having a weighted object to hold. Its a little hard to do unilateral work - bicep is possible, triceps and shoulders not so much, but you can just do both arms and get a reeeeaal good workout.

/whole bunches of exercises with them with photos

Is this what you're looking for (short, wide bands):

https://www.amazon.com/Fit-Simplify-Resistance-Exercise-Instruction/dp/B01AVDVHTI/

There's also fabric:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RHL6WC8/

What, exactly, do you want to do with them?

Edit: You can also double up the long bands (will make the loop smaller and change the resistance)

I'd be REALLY surprised if you can't accomplish what you'd like with one of these options:

1a) short bands - rubber

1b) short bands - fabric

2) the long bands and doubling them up if needed

Posted this in /r/bodyweightfitness as well. Can anyone recommend a decent and inexpensive set of resistance bands? Sadly I hate to have to be that guy that's looking for an inexpensive option, but due to this mess I have lost my job so money is going to be tight. I would love to get some resistance bands to try and do something other than cardio. I've never bought resistance bands so I am not sure what to expect or look for. I would love to get some that have the handles on each end but I can't seem to find any under like $70 that would be delivered before like June. The handled version seem like a better option for general "lifting" type stuff but maybe I'm wrong, again never owned any. I also don't need crazy heavy. I would be nice to have like maybe 125lbs resistance or so for some leg stuff, but arms, back, shoulders, chest I could get by with much less. I was looking at the ones below, just cause they are inexpensive and appear to have a boat load of good reviews, so I guess they would be good? Thoughts? Or open to any ideas. Thanks!

I agree that a lot of them are the same. i bought these off Amazon in October: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AVDVHTI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. And they are fine! Haven't broken. The only thing is that even the heaviest ones aren't THAT heavy. I hardly ever use the light ones and just use the two heaviest.

Hi! These are the exact resistance bands I've been using: https://www.amazon.com/Fit-Simplify-Resistance-Exercise-Instruction/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=resistance+bands&qid=1587402726&sr=8-5 :) I mostly use the black band around my knees for the bodyweight exercises (i.e. squats and elevated hip thrust against the sofa). I'll alternate between bands around the knees and/or ankles for the hip abduction movements.

Anyways, thank you for your kind words! Still always looking to improve and progress myself! Cheers and best of luck to you! :)

For makeup: only apply dark eyeliner to the outer corner on your lash line. This will make ur eyelashes appear fuller. Avoid putting dark eyeliner on your waterline because this makes ur eyes look smaller and ur nose bigger as a result. To make ur eyes look bigger you can also apply white eyeliner to the waterline.

Watch some YouTube videos on how to do winged top liner. It takes practice to get it down right! Here's a tip: look in the mirror straight on. Don't tilt your head or look anywhere but straight ahead. Apple the liner as if you're continuing your bottom waterline upwards (it'll be in a diagonal direction.)

For diet and exercise, I just want to disclose that you can trust my advice because this is what I do. I'm 5'5" 108 lbs, and range between 10-13% body fat. I have an athletic bodytype. I don't play sports. I eat vegan + free range eggs, and I run + weight-lift. That's it.

Diet: if you want to lose weight, ditch the dairy 100%. Dairy is fattening af. Use plant based alternatives instead. Almond milk, coconut milk yogurt, vegan cheese, plant butter, vegan cream cheese, and if u really want ice cream there's non dairy ben n Jerry's. But keep sugar low. There is a dairy alternative for everything now.

Don't add processed sugar to anything you eat. Coconut sugar is an amazing alternative. I bake with this and use it in desserts. The only sweeteners you should be using are coconut sugar, honey, maple syrup, Stevia. A quick healthy dessert i enjoy is sliced strawberries tossed with a teaspoon of coconut sugar. And sometimes topped with vegan cool whip.

Avoid white wheat as much as possible. White wheat is fattening because it processes as a sugar. For bread, use Dave's Killer Bread if ur store carries it. It's high in protein, fiber and low glycemic.

Exercise: Go for a run to get ur heart rate up. Doesnt have to be long if youre not in the mood.. cardio will burn fat.. Then get a protein shake in and weight lift after your run. If you're at home, buy the thick glute workout bands for your legs. And if u don't have weights for ur upper body at home, buy some exercise bands. Links below.

For abs, set a stopwatch on your phone. Do crunches for 1 minute straight. Then do other ab exercises for 1 minute straight (google some). Leg lifts. Do this until your abs burn and u can't do anymore!

Remember, the more muscle you have, the more fat your burn! So build as much muscle as u can! Don't worry about gaining "too much muscle." Forget about that. Women are attractive when they have muscle tone. It's impossible to get to a crazy muscley shape without taking crazy supplements and steroids lol. So u have nothing to worry about there.

And get tons of protein. A good goal would be to take ur weight and put it into grams of protein. So if you're 150lbs, try to get a minimum of 100-150 g of protein per day. Hard boiled eggs have 6g each. Get some plant based protein powder or pure whey protein powder and have at least 1 protein shake everyday! If you eat meat, get the cleanest natural meats you can.

I hope you'll follow at least some of my advice! If you do follow all of it, you'll see a quick, healthy sustainable difference in your weight and body fat percentage!

Glute bands (great for lunges & squats): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RZQBJ32/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_ft45EbZNYRPPY

Upper body bands: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_OD45EbKZFZ3KF

Leg weights (u want 10 lbs per leg): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0088ZVLAM/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_hI45EbK9V1Q8S (Exercise: lay flat on floor. Slide right foot to meet your left knee. Keep left leg flat and straight on floor. Use bent right leg to lift left leg, keeping it straight (similar to a bridge exercise). Do this 10 xs. Switch sides. Do it 10xs. Do this 3 xs total. (So 30 reps for each leg total. 60 reps total))

Goodluck!

This was my main exercise here Basically you put the resistance band around your ankles, and side step walk. But the trick is to not let the band or your leg snap back into place, instead slowly working with the resistance and controlling your step back to your feet together.

I got this set and I use the extra tough one personally, but the resistance range is great so you can start small and work your way up when it gets too easy

The stretch regiment I got was this:

Basic Calf Raises I would do this, and as it got easier, my PT said to try going up in two feet, but down on one.

Quad Stretches : I would only do the standing, but if you are too fatigued to do that, the laying options are just as good.

Wall Calf stretches : I was instructed to do the first two

Basically with all of this combined, my PT said building my hip muscles and loosening my other muscles would help with the way my body would move my legs and help my knees track better (my condition gives me very weak and grinding knees) but I think they would work just as good to help with your issues

Good luck!
