OneOdio Pro-50 (On sale right now!): https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01F59T4HU FX-audio Dac-X6 2.0 new version: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07TW2JQNN

Using Equalizer APO for Cross fade some songs and EQ, sounds amazing. Detail and clarity is on par with my AudioTechnica m50x which cost more than 3 times as much. Plus they are way more comfortable and have better bass. Super comfortable and no listening fatigue after hours of use. Using these same cans with my phone I get listening fatigue after an hour, this amp totally fixed that and really improved the low bass response and smoothed out all the harshness I was getting with my phone.

A little bit over your budget, but this FX Audio DAC-X6 would be a great choice that would be useful with even more difficult to drive headphones.

if you have the high impedance dt-990s you'll need a DAC/amp to get the signal loud enough to hear.

https://www.amazon.com/FX-Audio-Digital-Decoder-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B07TW2JQNN/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=dac&qid=1595409357&sr=8-3

here's a cheap dac/amp combo. This takes over as your audio device on your PC, you plug your speakers into this too

I'm looking at getting this FX-Audio DAC/amp to use with my PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS4/PS5.

I understand that I can have sound from my PC going through USB and the PS4/PS5 through optical, but can I connect the Switch to the coaxial input through a 3.5mm to coaxial cable?

Alternatively, I sometimes like to have sound coming from my Switch and PC at the same time. Currently I do this by connecting the Switch to my motherboard's line in jack, and enabling playback through the motherboard's audio console. If I hook the PC up to the DAC through USB, would I still be able to hear that line in audio?

You can also get a usb dac and connect the RCA outputs to your receiver. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TW2JQNN/

If you get the FX-Audio unit, you get the bonus of a very good headphone amp.

Id either get the custom studios or the 32 ohm version. The custom studios are a strictly superior version of the dt770 in almost every metric. And the 32 ohm version can get by with slightly less power than the higher ohm versions. Either way. this should be more than plenty. For the 32ohms you could probably even get away with a good dongle dac

Honestly? So long as you can control some EQ, even just a basic 5-band, check out the Sennheiser HD280 Pros. I've been using mine for... Shit, at least the last 10 years. They're fantastic cans for the price (~$100 for the "updated model" on Amazon in the US). Solid response curve, doesn't need an amp to power them (though they do not mind being run through an amp at all), decently well-built, comfortable. Typically recommended among the sub-$150 headphones.

And with the money you're saving, you could pick up an inexpensive amp. I've had this DAC/amp for a few years now, and it's been very good to me, for $60. Sounds fantastic with those cans, and Peace EQ on my Windows machine.

Edit: I mention the EQ because, while these headphones can pump out some serious bass, it has to be fed to them. They have a pretty flat frequency response curve to them, so they're fairly neutral, no real emphasis on any particular part of the spectrum. But if you feed them plenty o' bass from whatever your audio source is, you'll go deaf before you start clipping their lower limits.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm pretty unfamiliar with DACs and how they work. For the DAC/AMP option, would I connect the DAC to my speakers using RCA Cables? Then I can just plug my headphones into the DAC when I want to use them for my computer?

Something like this would work?

https://www.amazon.com/FX-Audio-Digital-Decoder-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B07TW2JQNN/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=DAC&qid=1596064523&s=electronics&sr=1-4&th=1

I bought [this amp] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TW2JQNN/ref=afx_dp_prime_egress?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&th=1) for my 80 ohm 770s. I didn't have a huge budget to dip my toes in to this hobby, so the 770s (from the Amazon warehouse) and this one for $58 bucks kept my right around $200.

I don't know that I 100% needed it, but I like it better than straight from the PC.

PC and 1/2 and this at 1/2 is perfect. Having the volume knob on the front allows for easy one handed volume changes for fine tuning.

It also keeps the full cord length available vs having is go all the way down to the back of my desktop.

You’re thinking of a dac. It recieves a digital audio signal from your PC through USB or optical, whichever one you want, and converts it to an analogue signal. Basically something like this. There may be less expensive options that I don’t know of, I just linked that one as an example.

get an mini amplifier like this https://www.amazon.com/FX-Audio-Digital-Decoder-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B07TW2JQNN/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=headphone+amp&qid=1603993392&sr=8-5

it's a bit pricey but it's the only way you'll be able to change the volume and it'll sound great

edit: i realized that you could just use the rca to aux thing for your tv's audio out. depending how close you want to be to the tv i guess that's an option too.

Speakers and sub should be great, especially for the price. As far as the amp goes, it looks like while most people were thrilled with it, some units were faulty or broke after a short time, at which point the manufacturer did not provide any support for them. If you get a good unit, it should sound great, and the specs blow me away. But you have to decide if it is worth the risk. I looked up some other amps on Amazon, and found this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZVS261F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Y.0kFbH7P7GN3

Fairly small, has very good reviews, and has Bluetooth. Only downside is that it's only input (other than Bluetooth and a port for a USB flash drive) is a stereo RCA line in. You may need a DAC if you want to hook up digital components. You may be able to get a budget DAC with the money you save, however. You could restore all of that functionality with this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TW2JQNN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ve1kFb2ARBDK6

Once again, good reviews. Keep in mind, I have not personally tested these components, just did some digging around and can say with a good level of confidence that this stuff should be good.

OK, that's good news.

FX-Audio DAC-X6 ($59) seems to tick all the boxes. You can plug it into the wall next to your listening position, connect it to your TV with a 15 ft toslink cable ($9) that can be tucked into a corner or in a cable channel. No delay, flexibility, just like mine but less expensive.

Add on your favorite wired headphones, you're within budget and on task! This isn't the best stuff out there, but it works and the convenience of having a latency-free headphone feed that you can afford is totally worth concessions in the performance department.

The sony str-dh190 is only $110 at walmart . Com right now. Grab an external dac And your set phono and anything else.

For speakers the HTD level 3 bookshelf (first choice) or level 2 towers. If you're diy capable the HiVi diy 3.1a(second choice). Also the Klipsch RP-600m or RP-160m are good options.

I've been having a hard time finding a headphone amp/DAC that can accommodate a microphone (e.g. I have HD598 + VModa Boom pro Knockoff).

I've found the this budget option with great reviews from Reddit and then the Schiit Fulla 3, which I feel is too expensive for what it puts out.

If you don't care about microphones, the DAC-X6 loks stupid good.

I don't know if you've heard of the Sennheiser HD650s but drop (formerly Massdrop) has a special edition of them for 220$ right now called the HD6xx. Which is less than half of the retail cost of them coming from Sennheiser. Shipping times are delayed because of the pandemic going on but I still got mine within a week. With the DAC and amp I use they blow away anything I've ever listened to although I'm certainly not an expert. They are open back, however.

Excellent, I actually use my GT73 as a 2nd monitor and being an half baked audiophile also recommend getting a nice dac and amp or combo unit for audio. Beyerdynamic DT880 or Tygr and a DAC-X6 wouldbe a good starter set. I use this as a mic.

This is a good question, but it's pretty personal. If it was me starting fresh and I had the computer and keyboard set, I'd go with something like:

Item | Price ---|--- Ultra Widescreen Monitor | $400 Monitor Arm | $30 Speakers | $150 Nice Mouse | $100 DAC | $70 Headphones | $70

And the rest for the necessary cables and overall accessories - skewing whatever is more important/less important to you. These are just some mid level of everything that are generally respected for the prices.

Ok, what motherboard are you using?

If your looking to fine tune the headsets sound you can download eq software to fine tune, treble, bass etc.

Astros mixamp is around 129.99

for that amount of money you could get links below (headset/mic) for 70 more a dac/amp

A vast majority of people who want quality Stereo from a Computer, are using USB Interfaces. How much that will cost, depends on what you want to do.

For Playback only, it can run from $25 up to $250, and for higher level approaching Professional Grade, it can run substantially more.

If you want to record, that adds a new level of complexity. But again, for the general consumer, we are looking at $25 to $250.

Since USB is all digital, it is not subject to any noise interference.

For many the complaint for internal Audio, is that it picks up noise from the computer, and there might have been a time when that was true, but with advancement in Integrated Circuits, Motherboard Design, and just the advancement of DACs in general. I'm not sure that is still true.

Then you have to consider if there are other features you want.

For example, here are a range of USB DAC, some single directional, some Bi-Directional -

https://www.amazon.com/LiNKFOR-Coaxial-Headphone-Converter-Optical/dp/B07SR7BYD6/

Moving up a bit -

https://www.amazon.com/FX-Audio-Digital-Decoder-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B07TW2JQNN/

Moving up to Bi-Directional - Playback/Record -

https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-U-Control-UCA222-Ultra-Low-Interface/dp/B0023BYDHK/

https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-U-Control-UCA202-Ultra-Low-Interface/dp/B000KW2YEI/

I think one of these is USB 1.0 and the other is USB 2.0, but the Amazon specs don't make that distinction, though I suspect the Behringer website would give those details.

Then we move to a full featured simultaneous Record/Playback DAC that can control TWO Monitor Pairs, has two independent Headphone Amps, has basic mixing capability, 24b/192k, multiple inputs, Master Volume Control,.... I have a YouTube video that does through this device in detail, if you are interested.

https://www.amazon.com/Mackie-BIG-KNOB-STUDIO-Studio/dp/B01N9QNWRY/

Now at $250 the Mackie Big Knob Studio is outside your budget, I'm just trying to give you a sense of the spectrum of options.

For some, something like this might fill their specific need -

https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-U-PHORIA-UMC202HD-U-Phoria/dp/B00SAV0VP0/

Things like the above are more for people who are both recording and playing back, more Home Studio oriented.

Also, these are consider good basic high quality USB only DACs -

https://www.amazon.com/Audioquest-Dragonfly-Stick-DragonTail-Android/dp/B01H5NRJJ4/

https://www.amazon.com/AudioQuest-DragonFly-Red-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B01DFMV4NQ/

https://www.amazon.com/AudioQuest-Dragonfly-Stick-Bundle-Adapter/dp/B07VHR1ZB5/

Which you choose, if you choose any, will depend on what you are trying to accomplish.

For simple quality Playback, the Dragonfly are highly regarded.

For modest money, the first two I suggested have quality playback, and a few extra features like a Headphone Amp.

The Behringer U-Control, are basic, but they have simultaneous Record and Playback which is a handy feature for some people. They are easily CD Quality. There are many reviews of these on YouTube, generally very positive.

So, there is no one size fits all solution. But device unique to the individual need.

But most people, and even Studios, are using USB I/O. There are full multi-channel mixers that only have USB connection between the Mixer and the Computer.

If you are getting a New Motherboard, I suspect the built-in sound card is going to beat a $40 10 year old PCI Sound Card. I would wait until you get the Motherboard install, then see where you stand. From there you can judge where you want to go.

But then, that's just my opinion.
