Reconsider your asking price. Brand new goes for less on Amazon. Elgato Game Capture Card HD60 S - Stream and Record in 1080p60, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One & Xbox 360 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rOZZEbECR9HY6

Laptops and notebooks have HDMI out, not HDMI in, so you can’t do that unless you buy an external capture card like this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA/

Just make sure your computer is fast enough to run the software and support the card.

Yes! Okay so I have:

  • A Microsoft Surface Pro 6 (any laptop with a HDMI slot will be fine)

  • The Nintendo Switch + the Dock (This is essential for the HDMI’s)

  • An Elgato HD60 S + the Game Capture software on their official website ( here )

  • Two HDMI Cords (One going from the laptop to the Elgato, The other going from the Elgato to the Nintendo Switch Dock)

You can’t stream directly from the Siwtch, so you’ll need what’s called a capture card such as the Elgato HD60S

You plug this into a PC and use a program to stream/record gameplay

This is a great capture card but is a bit expensive. You can definitely find cheaper ones. Just make sure you are getting a good one!

I use an external elgato capture card with my PC. It is awesome and I highly recommend it. I live stream SMM2 almost everyday since getting it and no issues.

That device appears to only send video from a PC to a TV, not the other way around.

If you're looking for a device that does the opposite, you want a USB capture card. Elgato is one of the main trusted brands for these, but there are cheaper ones out there.

I use an El Gato external card for this exact reason. And it's pretty good, but not perfect. There will be a very slight delay in games that is ALMOST unnoticeable 99% of the time. When it becomes noticeable are in twitch-reflex situations, like catching a fish in Animal Crossing or close up fights in Smash.

For playing slower paced games, RPGs, etc, it should work totally fine for you.

I don't know a ton about cheaper alternatives, but I would be careful going TOO cheap, the delay would probably be a bit worse.

Also, probably skip out on whatever software comes with the card, and use OBS instead. OBS is really good.

Hi, you'll need to get a capture card like the Elgato HD60 S to capture gameplay to stream it off of your laptop. This leaves a pretty small budget for the laptop itself... if you can go over budget, the Acer Nitro 5 is your best bet since it is a gaming device that is built for prolonged CPU and GPU loads, like live streaming.

Multiple questions here.

Filming videos - yes, you do video on the camera and audio recorded on your phone. Use the old Hollywood sync trick by having the on-camera talent clap once the sound and camera are running, and then you can use that moment in post-production to sync the audio and video tracks together. Also, they make pocket audio recorders specifically for this purpose, so that may be something to look at in the future.

Streaming - this is more technically complicated. First, can the camera output a "clean" video feed? By that I mean, just the off-the-sensor video without showing you the time and shutter speed and f stop? One way to test is to use the mini-HDMI output on the camera and find a cable that will plug in to the regular HDMI port on the back of a TV. Turn on the camera and see what you get live on the TV.

If it passes that test, then you will need a video capture device like a MiraBox Capture Card or Elgato Game Capture HD60 S to do the live rendering of the video to send it out on the internet. Rather than do the audio through the phone, you will connect the audio to the computer's mic input.

Here is a recommendation so you can actually get this answered. Put the amount of money you are "willing" to put towards a capture card, then put the absolute minimum you are willing to accept for quality. Also, consider that your internet needs to be consistent enough for the quality you want.

If you ask such a general question like this, you are going to either get expensive options that you can't afford or cheap options that suffer on quality. Put the price range at least, this will let those that have been in the same exact situation help you out with their own experiences. If all else fails wait for a sale... The HD60S has been on sale a few times in the past 6 months and it has worked well for me most of the time. It can be finicky, but on sale, it works wonders. Full price, I honestly wouldn't recommend.

Heres a vid tutorial for basics, but I personally would do a different setup: https://youtu.be/OGqZ1tml0zY

You plug your camera into a capture card via standard hdmi (1.4 or up) cable. Use a usb capture card for a laptop. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_ux4FEbS4R91AC . This will work but so will other brands and everything seems to be more expensive and slow to ship due to corona. Once that's done, I'd use OBS (its free software) to view/record the stream. You can send the stream from obs to youtube. Maybe you can even skip obs if YouTube sees your camlink/capture card.

Since you're playing on PS4 and streaming it through your PC you probably will not need a 144hz monitor unless you're also into PC gaming. My recommendation for a monitor is a normal 60hz monitor with a VA or IPS panel that also has a low response time. As long as your PC is strong enough, it shouldn't have any issues with streaming the video output of the capture card and your webcam/camera.

My recommendation for a capture card would probably be the popular Elgato HD60s. A lot of streamers use this one, including me, and I personally haven't had any issues using it.

If you want to be sure that your internet speed is strong enough, head to Speedtest.net and check if your Upload speed is at least 5 Mbps. Any lower than that and your stream will just look like a pixelated mess.

Also that part about a capture card being able to turn a 65hz monitor to 144hz, that is definitely not right so definitely skip over that advice.

I use an Elgato HD60 Pro PCIe capture card. I also use a dual PC system so I am able to capture my Gaming PC and PS4 without any problems. Since you are using HDMI with the capture card capturing the audio is as easy as adding the source in OBS.

If PCIe is not an option I am sure that the Elgato HD60 S is a decent option as well.

Thanks for the input! Sound advice. I was thinking that too while looking at the capture devices. I would think I'd run from the GH5 to an HDMI splitter with one out going to the field monitor and the other going to something like [this capture device] (https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=video+capture+card&qid=1595381372&sr=8-4).

Fellow Nintendo fan!!!

So I got an elgato to connect my switch to it so I could stream directly from my switch to twitch.

This external one should work well with a macbook since you can't install the internal card:

https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=elgato&qid=1590044900&sr=8-3

The only thing I'd say you might run into with a macbook would be a lack of screenspace, you'd wanna play the game and monitor chat/stream and that might be hard on just one laptop so maybe an external monitor would help.

But to just get started I think the capture card is all you need to stream switch games =)

Not the original recommender but here’s a link to a similar model. I couldn’t find anything recent or in stock for the Rocket. It’s a hardware component that comes with a software download. You plug the switch into this “capture card” as they are often called, then plug the capture card into a computer and download the software (linked with the product) on the computer to record from it.

I also highly recommend the Elgato HD Capture Cards (similar product from a different brand) as I think they are more newbie friendly.

As for recording, can’t go wrong with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). Free to use and lots of people use it so it’s easy to find support in forums. It usually hooks up directly with capture cards and anything on your computer screen and is fully customizable for recording / streaming layouts and stuff like that.

Okay, hear me out... using my a6400 for livestreaming is the best livestreaming decision I've made this year. Clean 4K30/1080p60 HDMI out, and it's a huge upgrade from a C920 or BRIO. Perfect if you have an Elgato Cam Link or something similar. I'd recommend the a6000 or a6100 for what you're doing. a6000 lacks 4K and HLG and a bunch of settings that it doesn't sound like you're concerned about, and the a6100 has all of that, but buying an a6100 would put you around $700-800. (a6000 with capture would be around $500-600.) Honestly, Sony cameras are also much more easily upgradeable than Canon mirrorless (if you want to upgrade to the RP you need new camera lenses). Autofocus on a6000 is great, a6100 is AMAZING (seriously, I can point to the camera and it's focused.)

The Panasonic G85 may be a good option for you too, but I personally use an a6400 (basically just an a6100 with a couple more things) and you were interested in an a6X00. Please respond with questions, I'll be around.

Here's a link to what I'd recommend:

a6100 + 16-50mm lens: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X71JK4L

Elgato Cam Link 4K (you can get it used for half price): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K3FN5MR/

Here's a capture card that's cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA/

And don't forget a micro-HDMI to HDMI cable of your choice. (Amazon Basics works fine.)

Technical question. Now that I know I need a capture card, there is another issue. The Samsung NX1 uses H265 codecs. I see on the Amazon product page and on the Elgato capture card page there is a comparison chart of different models. They say Hardware Encoder H264 for some models. Is this what it uses from the Capture card to the computer or from the Camera to the Capture card? (Maybe this is the wrong question) Is the H265 codec from the camera compatible with the H264 codec used with the capture card?

A capture card is the next thing you'll need then. These can vary widely depending on OS and budget. I use an Elgato CamLink which is around $100 - $130. This is cross-platform and works well enough, but sometimes can be buggy.

I've also used a BlackMagic UltraSudio mini which did work more consistently but required an additional adapter to go from Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 for use on Mac. Some people have reported success using Elgato HD60s mainly on Windows, but from what I've heard they can have trouble on Mac.

Depending on what you're streaming a mixer may or may not be helpful. Something as simple as a cheap Behringer will do fine, or you can also look at software solutions like the VoiceMeter Banana.

Other than that, a good lens will be a worthwhile investment. I use a 20mm f1.7 but there are a lot of options here depending on your setup.

Finally, lighting can be a huge factor in your quality, especially with a m43 sensor. A good softbox rig is probably the best bang for the buck investment you can make as long as your audio is decent.
