This one works for me. I've seen other ones that people say work for them also.

something like this should work:
https://www.amazon.com/Electop-Updated-Adapter-Converter-Charging/dp/B07Q81GD5G/ref=mp_s_a_1_9
Just make sure it's equipped to handle 2-way data at gen 3.1 speeds. I'd probably be inclined to order a few different options to make sure you get one that does the job reliably.

I had this same problem (I had a helios 300 laptop) as well, also I actually got the link to work, but it would freeze maybe 10mins into playing any game. Then I got a usb c to usb 3 adapter and it works good now. The problem for me was that the usb c wasnt directly wired to the gpu, but the usb 3 was. It may the same problem for you too. I too appreciate the knowledge that's been shared in this thread.
I've got the "official" Oculus Link cable on the way, so I'm now trying to figure out what ports and adapters to use. I believe I'll purchase this USB-A-to-USB-C adapter to use on my desktop PC. It mentions both 10 Gbps data transfer rates, and charging. (Some "Superspeed" adapters seem to imply that they don't support charging at all, although the wording is invariably confusing.)
That just leaves the question of which of my USB ports to use. My "MSI Gaming Plus MAX" mobo includes both 'USB 3.2 Gen 1', and 'USB 3.2 Gen 2' ports, but the neither the manual nor the internet seems to know how many amps any of these ports can supply. (These are all USB A ports. No USB C ports on this mobo.)
Various MSI mobos do support a feature called "MSI Super Charger", which sounds very promising, but from what I can gather is only useful for fast charging iOS (Apple) devices. I'm guessing this means it can bump the charging voltage up from 5V if it senses an Apple device on the other end of the cable. However, if this Super Charger feature is enabled via an MSI utility, data transfer is disabled on that port. So, that's no good, even if we ignore the bizarre only-on-Apple requirement.
But wait, at least these special Supercharge ports are sometimes capable of more power output than what vanilla USB ports can provide. So maybe, just maybe, if I plug my Link cable into my Super Charger-capable port, my Quest may be able to pull \~2 amps from it. Maybe.
Crap. After paging through my mobo manual, the only place it mentions Super Charging is in the section about the USB 2.0 ports. Dammit.
So, is it possible to use a powered hub to boost the power going to the Quest?

Okay, this makes sense. My problem is that I'm using a Win10 desktop without TB3 ports. I do have a VisualLink port on my GPU, but it was throwing a bunch of errors when I tried my TB2 + TB2 to TB3 adapter. Can I use something like this to achieve a connection? If not, what are my options without a TB3 port?

I had the EXACT same problem with the same case! I didn’t wanna loose the quality and feeling of my $80 cable, and felt that the port on the back of the motherboard that literally says “VR ready” was a good start. I bought this female usb-c to male usb 3 dongle, and have had no problems using ever since. Hope this helps!

If you don't mind a little dongle on the front of your case, you can get a little adapter (something like this) and be able to plug type c things in to the front of your case.

Forgot to mention, if you plan on tethering to your computer and using link / virtual desktop, this is a must. Ours needed a 3.0 adapter to even be recognized. Two of us have VR systems and we use this on both computers, no issues. We weren’t so lucky when just trying to get USB’s from Amazon, listed as 3.0

It should, but there's always a small chance it won't. It doesn't have to be USB C though, you could get an USB C to A adapter. I use this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q81GD5G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_IxysEbHRY85GZ Don't trust what it says in the description about not supporting Quest. If you go to reviews and Q&A others also say it works great for Link. Just make sure it's plugged into a USB 3 port

I need a USB c to USB a adapter. I bought mine second hand for a really good deal and it came with the official cable, but my PC doesn't have a USB c port.
I've done some research and a few threads said this adapter works; however, half of the reviews (and more of the recent ones) say it doesn't. Did it stop working because of an update or something? Sorry, I'm new to this. Is there a better adapter out there?
1 points • _Matt_Murdock
So i'm still trying to wrap my head around this. My MB has clearly marked SS10 ports. i have an official link cable, but where i think i went wrong is the the adapter? When i do the cable test on oculus software it says 1.8gbps and USB3.0. what??? Sould be at least 5gbps? I downloaded both utilites in this thread and both identify the quest connected with 3.1. USB Deview shows 896mA. Not enough to keep the Quest charged but drain slowly. But after reading this thread any usb port can't output 3A needed for 'charging'. Although i did a quick search and saw that 3.1 gen 2 can put out 5A or is that just on wall plugs?
anyway this got me discouraged a little. i might return the cable and just get a cheap cable to be able to sideload and stuff. Help and advice appreciated

I immediately realized when I got it I need a male to female and I bought a female to male. Man, life can suck sometimes. I ordered this one:
One of the manufacturers said theirs was made for the new Oculus Link. It is not. It is super fast marketing.

I don't have any usb-c ports on my pc, but my Nvidia video card does (RTX 2070), so if you have a high end video card check there.
If not, something like this will work, just make sure it supports usb 3.0.

I was able to get it working.
Saw in another post that someone connected the link cable to the USB C connector on their video card. Didn't realize mine had one until today, and the link cable works fine plugged into that. But not with the port on my MB, or the port on my gaming laptop.
Others were saying this adapter works when plugged into a USB A 3 port, I'm going to try it out to see if that allows this to work on my laptop: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q81GD5G/

Yes it is a good upgrade. Your going to want a counterweight to make it nice and comfortable. You can use something as simple as a roll of quarters wrapped in electrical tape and then held on with Velcro straps, or as complicated and expensive as the VR Power battery pack. NOT the Vrenergy one. That one is junk. You will also want some headphones or earbuds. I use these.
If you are going to use the official Oculus link cable, you can use this adapter. if you are going to use just a shorter usb3 cable, that is fine. Just won’t have the length of cable as you have on CV1.
I had a CV1 and the first thing you will like is the lack of god rays and reflections. There is still some but it’s way better. Resolution is a big step up also.
1 points • Personal_Sloth
Update: I did get it working IF I plugged the official link cable into this adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q81GD5G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .. and then into a USB-A port on the GS65.
Kind of hacky. Oculus is currently fighting me on it, saying it's because the graphics card doesn't connect to the USB-C port.. which doesn't make sense because A) I can use a third party USB-C cable and it works and 2) AFAIK there's not a direct video connection to the quest anyways. It's compressed and then sent to the quest over USB, not displayport or HDMI.

This is my cautionary tale…
I tried this about 6 months ago on a DS918+ with an Asustor 2.5GbE adapter connected to my NAS (via this USB C to A adapter), and another connected to my Mac over USB C. The guide I followed said that the Asustor model was "confirmed working" with Synology NAS devices.
Well it worked, and I got nice speeds… but it wasn't reliable. It was quite flaky and my Mac would often drop connections to any mounted shared folders. The adapter connected to the Mac seemed fine, but the Synology one would just disappear from DSM and need to be unplugged and replugged before it would show up again. Maybe it was the USB C to A adapter, but I doubt it – it's highly rated on Amazon. More likely just flaky drivers. They also both ran insanely hot, which worried me in terms of long term reliability.
After about a week or persevering with it I just gave up and returned them both. Maybe the drivers have improved since then. If anybody goes down this route I encourage you to stress test it by copying a lot of files back and forth.
It's a damn shame that Synology won't release an official one, so good luck to anyone who tries this. Maybe the QNAP device is totally fine. In any case, I ended up just getting a DS1819+ with the official Synology 10GbE PCI adapter. It's great, and what's more it's solid. I haven't looked back.

OP, know that Oculus will say they "do not support" such adapters with the Official cable, so be aware, if you have issues they may not help. However, even if they "don't officially support" it, some do work. Here's the one I know of:

I do actually have a usb-c port on my computer (usually occupied by a different usb-c device), so I use this adapter when that port is occupied. I've tried the Link both directly through usb-C and through this adapter and have noticed no performance differences at all so far. Good luck!

Pretty much any NVMe drive.
This is the enclosure and adapter that I've got being delivered tomorrow.
My current one is just an nvme on a board, so it's a little exposed, and my USB type A ports aren't gen 2, so I only get 500MB/s with that one. But I do have thunderbolt 3 / usb 3.1 gen 2 usb-c on my laptop.
I couldn't find an adapter to go from type A plugs to type C that delivered on gen 2/thunderbolt 3 speeds. Some claimed it, but reviews said otherwise. Plus the room surrounding my USB-C connections would be interfering with other ports, and I don't like the idea of having something that akward hanging its weight off a weak little USB-C connector.
So, I went the route of the enclosure with a cable to USB-C, and an adapter from that to USB3.1 gen 2, so I can use it in PC's that don't have type C, and get the most speed the machine I'm working on can deliver via its USB ports.
