Audio Help w/ Xbox Series X + Gaming Monitor
Hey all, thanks in advance for any help you can give me...
So I just upgraded from a 1080p TV to a Asus Gaming monitor for the Series X — and I'm trying to set up my audio from Xbox to speakers that I have...and running into some trouble...
The red/white RCA (speakers) to 3.5mm headphone jack (plugs directly into the monitor) works just ok, but it's not really that loud. Like, if the speakers go up to 10 — the max audio I can get is 4. (and yes, the monitor volume is turned all the way up).
Any idea what the issue could be? Or any suggestions for a better setup? I've read a bit about an HDMI extractor would work better...any suggestions on what would be a good fit for my setup? The monitor I have runs 1440p/120hz & 4K/60hz — is there any HDMI extractor that could keep up?
Thanks again...

You get poor clarity, no soundstage, no imaging, etc.
2 points • cvance10
The only thing those speakers are missing is a sub-out rca. I have a pair of the S3000Pro's and they don't have one either.
Of course it doesn't matter if you're using a separate pre-amp for volume control.

I’ve been using these from edifier until I can upgrade my setup and they sound great

You might want to look at Edifier R1700BT powered speakers with Bluetooth. I just got a pair of their R1850DBs for use at the office, and I'm pretty pleased with them. Their clarity and imaging is decent. The sound won't knock your socks off or anything, but they're really good for what they are.

Thanks mate! I am rocking the Edifier 1700BT
got the mug from a local comic book shop, only one in stock

I just use $150 pair of edifiers.
https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/
Someone also mentioned Mackie and those are also good. The CR5 is the one you would want. Just be prepared to sacrifice desk space for quality.
Just being pedantic, but subwoofers refers to woofers that generate non-tonal frequencies, like the rumble and boom of an explosion.

Without an amplifier, you're going to need active speakers. Something like this setup: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI. There's also a PreSonus Eris set at 99 and a few other options if you dig around. If you're willing to go up a few more bucks, you can get into some pretty nice studio monitors.

So last year I helped produce an album in a friends purpose-built minibarn. They had a cheap presonus interface, garageband, no more than four decent microphones, and a mac tower from 2009. The focus of the album was “limitation breeds creativity”
At first I was ready to bring my UA gear and nice monitors over to get the job done. But when I showed up, one of the guys had picked up a speaker set very similar to this, the link is for the newer version: Edifier R1700BT https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_a0T5EbBM3ZV0W
These things rocked, translated well between mixing with headphones and monitors, and were very close to a “what you hear is what you get” perspective. Best of all, they’re at your $150 price point.

I have no clue why you've only gotten garbage recommendations. Sorry about that.
You don't want the Logitechs. They're the worst of the worst. Stay far away from them.
The Edifiers and Miccas you listed would both be fine. Honestly just pick the one that looks better. Since your budget is up to $150, you could even upgrade to these Edifiers.
1 points • cashnmillions
I would recommend these over those. https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI
1 points • SemiAutomattik
Thanks. I just wanted to make sure that a BT capable speaker still sounds as good on 3.5mm connection as a non-BT capable speaker would. Comparing in the same price range of course. I'm looking at a model like the Edifier RT1700BT
It's fine that when I use the speakers on BT they will sound worse, I just want to make sure my wired connection still sounds great.
1 points • ToyMachine471
If I already have these in hand, what would you recommend? It looks like these don't have sub out.
1 points • DiscoDane
I have the R1700BT. I got em a year ago on sale for $115 and I really enjoy them. I'm probably bad at describing sound, but they are very clear sounding. I could also hear parts of music i never had before. However, if your a bass-head like me they may be lacking in the bass department, especially for EDM and hip-hop, which is why i got a dedicated sub. The Bluetooth is cool too, but i don't see myself using it now with my sub.
3 points • notakosan
This is not the final recommendation, just a suggestion to see where your interest lies. How about this Edifier R1700BT? Just connect that CD player to it and you have a decent set of speakers that play CD and Bluetooth.
1 points • penguin74
The WIFI might be a stretch, but why limit yourself to whatever they happen to implement? I'd remove that from your criteria and stick with Bluetooth. That way you're open to whatever app/streaming service you have available from your phone or other bluetooth capable device.
I have a set of these and they sound really good. We use them in our dining room during game nights.

Edifier makes several different models, some cheaper, some more expensive. Mine are probably somewhere in the middle.

At $150 self powered, I would recommend the Edifier 1700BT a direct step up from the 1280T

A good pair of bookshelves speakers is the perfect solution imho. You could add a sub if you feel the need and have the budget.

Hello, looking for speaker suggestions. Somewhere in the 100-350 range? Looking for something relatively simple and versatile.
I have a Uturn table with the built in preamp
Hoping to find something with Bluetooth. Connectivity to connect to phone or computer while not playing records
Was looking at these speakers
they came recommended and seems like they’re a good bang for the buck. I live in a condo so I don’t want to be shaking the walls with a more high end system just something that will be an upgrade from my portable Bose speaker. Open to other options and just wanted to see your guys thoughts

I have the Edifier 1700BT and they’re dope. I mean really they’re awesome. You won’t need an amp either as these are active. They’re $150 brand new on amazon. I got mine from Facebook marketplace for $100. Also, they’re Bluetooth, so you can connect your phone to them without a receiver. All around, I would buy them again.

If you want a simple solution, do get a set of powered speakers over a sound bar.
I think the 1280db is kinda ugly, R1700BT looks much better, isnt much more, and still in your range.

for budget recommendations:
I have this pre-amp and it's totally fine
and these speakers should work. I do not have experience with these speakers but I have a pair of edifier headphones that are quite good for the price. These also have good ratings and also have Bluetooth so you can also play music from your phone or other mobile device in the event whatever you want to listen to isn't pressed into vinyl.

Edifier is a good choice if you want bookshelf speakers. Recently I had a beginning DJ that I spent a lot of time with helping his setup on Discord chat. He wanted quite a few speakers and options on a budget so I recommended that he get 2 different speaker setups and chain them together.
He ended up with 1 set of Logitech Z623 2.1 speaker system for the parties plus a set of Edifier R1700BT with bluetooth to sit normally on his DJ setup & computer desk and use with his cell phone to connect bluetooth.
After he got everything setup he ended up liking the Logitech's so much over the Edifiers that he returned the Edifiers and bought a second set of Logitech Z623.
I suspect it's largely because of the subwoofer - and Edifier does sell some with subwoofers. I thought it was interesting that he decided to ditch the bluetooth in the end and the better overall brand quality of the Edifiers for a second set of Logitechs.
Anyway YMMV and that's overall just and anecdote but I think it speaks mostly to the power of having a subwoofer vs. not subwoofer. He might have been happy if he got the edifier + sub model.

I've got a setup in my office that would seem to achieve what you're after. Slightly above your budget on Amazon at the moment although both can be got a little cheaper on sale:
Sony Bluetooth Turntable :https://www.amazon.com/Sony-PS-LX310BT-Belt-Drive-Turntable/dp/B07PBLD4QN/
Edifier R1700BT powered Bluetooth speakers: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/
The Sony Turntable is probably a toss-up with the Audio Technica; you'll find this sub will typically recommend the AT however I much preferred the Sony and have been pretty happy with it.
The Edifier speakers have blown me away. Great clarity, slightly lacking at the low end however definitely not "tinny". Perfect for a small/mid sized room. Actively powered so no amp etc required. A couple of RCA inputs and Bluetooth. I actually have the TT connected via RCA (just because I can) however have tested via BT and worked fine.

You've already got a potable speaker, if it were my money I'd get something like one of the following:
www.amazon.com/LG-CM4590-XBOOM-Bluetooth-System/dp/B07QCW1J2Q
https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/
These will have dramatically better audio than the little speakers, at the tradeoff of being far less portable and compact, and they won't have Alexa like the sonos
1 points • alphabetsong
That is a tough pick... considering your room size and budget I'd recommend something between the Edifier R1700BT and the KEF Blade.
1 points • joe603
Did you ever think of powered speaker that have an amp built in? For $149 you can get Edifier which put out a decent amount of bass for a pair of speakers with such a small footprint.

If you still go the soundbar route the Yamaha -180 supports Arc 4k HDR passthrough has built in sub woofers and you can add a real sub if you want for $99

Many thanks friend, take my upvote!
Yea i was trying to decide between an active Edifier R1700BT or passive Micca MB42X and was thought if i go with a passive and get a good dac/amp i could use it for headphone as well.
So its good to know!
And thanks for the tidbit about the fit on the desk, thats my other fear. Will i have space for my tower, 2 27" monitors and bookshelf speakers on a 74" desk

Is the Edifier R1700DB any worse than the Eris E4.5's?

Hi all,
My boyfriend has this turntable audio technica lp-120-usb and nothing else. He says you need to buy a bunch of stuff to go between the turntable and the speakers, but internet makes me believe this turntable has a built in pre amp and can be plugged directly into powered speakers. And these Edifiers seem to have decent reviews. I think I need a cable tho, to connect phono to RCA? And I'm having trouble figuring out the cable.
Any speaker recommendations or cable help would be appreciated. I don't want to ask him, Christmas surprise.
1 points • Drake31217
I am looking for good speakers for the AT LP 120USB but I also would like them to have Bluetooth capabilities so that my family can use them with our phones as well. Are these speakers a solid option? My plan is to have them wired to my LP 120 and have them able to be used by the phones through Bluetooth as well. Would this work and are these solid speakers? Reviews look solid and they are just the upgraded bluetooth version of the speakers I was originally looking at.

If you have space, Edifier speakers are great.
The Bluetooth connection works well and it's open, so you don't have to pair, just select from the Bluetooth menu of any device and it plays.
Can also plug in sources easily.

Excellent work. Great job with the part-by-part breakdown for your choices.
While all of the standalone 5K monitor options have been discontinued over the past few years, primarily due to high prices as 4K production continued to ramp up and prices dropped far enough that 5K never had a chance to catch up, I think it is worth mentioning the quality difference. That panel in the iMac is very high end, and equivalent to the pro displays like equivalents from Dell's Ultrasharp or Asus' ProArt lineups.
Regarding sound however, I would suggest avoiding any "PC speaker" setups as while they are kind of adequate for very nearfield listening, they just can't compete with any simple stereo powered monitor setup. Given the particular workloads described by OP, I would actually say it's to drop to a Ryzen 5 3600 and take that extra money purely for audio. Here's a couple of options at a few different price ranges:
-
$100 - Edifier R1280T - Will blow any "computer speaker" set out of the water, and perform well as speakers for TV use. Includes remote.
-
$150 - Edifier R1700BT - A touch better for nearfield use, but definitely big step up for TV use in particular for movies where the meatier bass will be very nice. Also has bluetooth so pulls double duty for streaming music as well. Includes remote.
-
$200 - Fluance Ai40B - Again just another nice step up. Enough bass from these little wonders to make for a thoroughly enjoyable movie watching experience. Bluetooth and a somewhat nicer remote included.

you could get an edifier powered speaker that already has bluetooth,
https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/
you won't have to try and tangle with adding your own bluetooth module. just have your Pi plugged into the aux.
incidentally, i can confirm that a Rp0W will give you analog audio output through a HDMI-to-VGA as long as it has audio extraction. i'm not sure the quality of the DAC in the adapter, but it's cheaper and easier than dealing with a hat... the Pi just uses the HDMI port as the audio device.
better yet, just get a slightly more expensive powered speaker, that will accept USB input, and plug it directly into your Pi and you won't need the DAC at all. your Pi will see the speakers as an audio device.
https://www.amazon.com/Fluance-Performance-Bookshelf-Amplifier-Turntable/dp/B07MH2X3CP/
i have fluance floor speakers, they sound great. the company is known for speakers that sound significantly better than their price range, and having good customer support. the Ai60s also have bluetooth and a remote.

Sometimes hard to find speakers that small. But there are options out there.
The Edifer S350DB have a subwoofer and are less than 9" tall for $299
If you wanted to spend less, the Edifer R1700BT are $150 and 9.75" tall
Kanto YU4 for $330 fit your size requirements
My pick though would be the Vanatoo Transparent Zero for $350. They fit your size requirements and are very well reviewed

And these for a bit cheaper https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280DB-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B0719C132V

I'm having a hard time trying to decide which speakers to buy that i can use for my tv, laptop and phone. I want to buy a 2.0 set because i do not have enough space for a subwoofer or more speakers in my tiny dorm room. I came across the Edifier R1700BT and the Edifier R1280DB. The problem is the R1700BT has a overall better build and sound quality than the R1280DB, but the R1280DB has a optical input while the R1700BT has not. I can connect the R1700BT through my headphone output on my tv but i'm not sure if the affects the sound quality. Both set of speakers are around the same price in my country (110 euros).
So my main question is: does the headphone output on my TV makes the sound quality so much worse (does it even?) that i'm better of buying the slightly worse speakers that does have an optical input?
Or if you know better speakers for the same price, please tell me!
The speakers:
R1280DB (with optical input) https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280DB-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B0719C132V/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=1280db&qid=1585525117&sr=8-1

This is a good question, but it's pretty personal. If it was me starting fresh and I had the computer and keyboard set, I'd go with something like:
Item | Price ---|--- Ultra Widescreen Monitor | $400 Monitor Arm | $30 Speakers | $150 Nice Mouse | $100 DAC | $70 Headphones | $70
And the rest for the necessary cables and overall accessories - skewing whatever is more important/less important to you. These are just some mid level of everything that are generally respected for the prices.
1 points • NideoK
Yes. You will want a full setup though. Especially since you're transitioning from those full sounding headphones. I went through the same thing and just having bookshelf speakers didn't cut it for me. My PC has an optical output so I have an optical cable going to a receiver. Connected to the receiver is 2 bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer.
How do you feel about the used market? I got a Pioneer receiver on Craigslist for $30. Pioneer Andrew Jones Bookshelf speakers for $40 and the Pioneer Andrew Jones Sub for $40 on Facebook Marketplace. Sounds just as good if not better than my headphone setup - Fiio M7 --> Fiio E12 --> Audio Technica ATH-M50x.
But I completely understand if you want minimal setup. If you want to experiment and just try bookshelf speakers, make sure they are powered and don't require an amp/receiver. Something like these. You will want a cable like this to connect those speakers to your PC. If you are not sure if your computer has the output you need, you can buy one of these. Or you could also buy a bluetooth receiver to connect to those speakers.
Any questions, ask away. I've done what you wanted many times over for myself and others lol Best of luck! :)
