Good idea or no no?
I ordered all of my parts and they all arrived BUT the power supply :c
I ordered 750w RMx but I just noticed that they're out of stock on amazon & everywhere else where I checked... so potentially I'll have to wait 1-3 weeks (already been 1 week since I made the purchase) till I'll receive it.
However, I do have a EVGA 500w psu in my current build (that has been used for 4 years if that makes a difference) so I wondered if I'll be able to use that?
I'll have: gigabyte rtx2070 super, r9 3900x, castle 360EX cooler, x570 motherboard, 9 corsair rgb fans ;-; and 4 corsair rgb ram sticks...
pcpartpicker estimates watt usage to be 488.
Is it safe to do? What's the worst that could happen?
If the worst case scenario my pc just turns off cuz it runs out of power, I'll give it a shot. But if my PC explodes or breaks stuff then fuk that I'll just wait XD
Thanks!

Evga is always a good brand. This one is 500w.

There’s an 80+ white from EVGA that shows 6/2-6/3 for me here.
EVGA 100-W1-0500-KR 500 W1, 80+ White 500W, 3 Year Warranty, Power Supply, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H33SFJU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8C90EbFM6ZKDA
White means your power efficiency won’t be great and it’ll be louder and produce more heat. But it’s 80+ rated, and from one of the best PSU manufacturers out there. I’d say it’s a solid budget buy.

Cpu: $200 Gpu: $220 Mobo:$150 2TB HDD: $50 Ram: $80 120GB M.2: $20-$30 Psu (Also linked Below): $45
Here's the link for the psu. Just one I found on amazon with decent reviews.
Edit:spelling
Edit #2: Everything is actually priced off amazon (which might be why the prices are slightly higher), I haven't looked around on other sites for better pricing just yet. I was planning to do that with each piece before ordering.

Make sure you have a good monitor. It sucks to have a nice system and realize you are getting the right gaming experience on your grandma's old tube TV.
-
Make sure the RAM has a frequency preferably above 3000Mhz. It isnt a huge difference but $15 for 5% performance is worth it. 3200Mhz is ideal right now.
-
See if you can get lower prizes for the CPU and GPU on Ebay. You could put the saved money toward a new collection of games!

Pretty much anything that's 80+ certified and has good ratings. First one I own in another pc for 5 years now and going good. Second one is from a reputable brand but it's also 80+ white which is less efficient than the other 80+ bronze options. Third one I've literally never heard of before but it's selling like hot cakes so it's probably good.
1 points • CasualMagician245
You can get a lower cost PSU but don't go to cheap. The PSU touches everything in the system so even with a low cost device you still want quality. I recommend the EVGA or Thermaltake PSU's around $50 if you need a budget option. They are reputable and you can get support for them. I also included the link to the PSU adapter on ebay. You will need that to use a standard ATX PSU. The mount is standard so no case mods should be necessary to fit this unit in the case.

I'm not an expert on game servers, however, the cpu, ram and storage are most likely going to be the biggest factor, I also know that with some games, like Minecraft, single-core performance is the only thing that matters for the cpu really. This motherboard is not on pc part picker for some reason so here is the mobo b450 gaming plus max and here is the rest of the build here .
In total, the cost of the build with the mobo is around $950. if you were ok going a bit over the budget you could go for a 3900x or doubling the ram but I think the 3700x will probably be fine.
The reasoning for parts:
Cpu: great value chip with good single-core performance and 8 cores 16 threads which should be fine for game servers.
Cpu cooler: again amazing value cooler, performs as well as coolers double its price.
Motherboard: has a good vrm and all the features that your likely to need.
Ram: Just some good value ram, pretty fast and plenty of it. if you want to save a bit on the ram go for this instead, it will use all 4 of your ram slots so will harm upgradability but is a bit cheaper.
m.2: good value nvme ssd.
GPU: pretty much the best value gpu out there right now, it may not really be necessary but if it is then go for this one.
PSU: good price and enough power for this build, if you want a lower cost, but lower power try this one Here

hope this helps.

I also plan on building a computer for my little brother based on the same cpu and motherboard combo. The i3 offers great performance at $100, similar to the old 4790k i7's.
CPU: i3 10100 $105 https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i3-10100-Desktop-Processor-LGA1200/dp/B086MMRW87/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=I3+10100&qid=1607215991&sr=8-1

CPU cooler: $130 Definitely not necessary as the stock fan will suffice but rgb seems to be a priority and this cooler would be great if the cpu is upgraded down the line. https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-H100i-Capellix-Liquid-Cooler/dp/B08G1NSG7F/ref=sr_1_6?crid=T77DSJFL3H34&dchild=1&keywords=cpu+cooler&qid=1607216946&sprefix=cpu+%2Caps%2C197&sr=8-6

You could also look for local deals on a used gpu to save money. A gtx 1050ti 4gb should be more than sufficient for pubg and great value if you can find it for $80
Also all the rgbs are run through corsairs icue software and should allow for tons of customization.
The ram is also faster than the motherboard and cpu support and that's just cause it doesn't make sense to pay $80 for 2666 MHz ram in 2020 and you can just run the 3200mhz ram at 2666mhz

Total cost $800 ish usd plus tax

Here's some parts I used for my desktop and it has worked well. I don't use a dedicated graphics card (you probably want one for games), and this setup can drive a 2k monitor at 60hz. I currently only use the display port but i believe the hdmi and display port can both drive a 4k monitor at 30hz or 2 2k monitors at 60hz but I haven't tried that yet. I did check the manufacturere specification to ensure all parts are compatibable according to ASUS motherboard spec on their website.

Amazon has the Asus pb278Q monitor on sale right now. I've been using this model daily for years and have watched the price go down a couple hundred dollars since I first started using it. I would still highly recommend and the current price is a bargain for the specs it has. If your interested here's more info about the asus pb278q
