Here’s a really well liked cooler by a lot of people with budget builds, it’s only $20 and it blows the stealth wraith out of the water so I’d look into that especially since your going all in at over 1k a better cpu cooler is definitely something to look into.

You won't be overclocking your FX chip with it but it should do the job for now.

4.5ghz on such an old cpu is asking for trouble imo. my 4.4ghz all core one is all funky going nowadays. but OC is a definite no brainer with that chip. at least 4.0-4.3 is safe and much better than stock. a 20$ coolermaster radiator clone like this would do the trick.

You might want a different cpu cooler or a different since the 3700x can get quite hot and the case you chose doesn't have very good fans and airflow. The fan that comes with the 3700x won't be good enough in a case like the nzxt you chose.

I recommend either getting a different case that has good airflow or getting a different cpu cooler.

If you want to get a different case, I recommend the phanteks p300a/p400a. These cases have a mesh in the front which allows air to get in and out easier than the nzxt case you chose that doesn't let much air in from the front. Also I believe p300a and p400a are around the same price as the nzxt but I don't know for sure.

Similar performance to 212 but cheaper and no mir. Blue led fan is meh but in the reviews they show you how to ship the led. I took the whole fan off and put two Arctic p12 fans on and it's whisper quiet now.

TDP rating of the cooler, and TDP rating of the CPU, or it's power consumption to be more accurate. If they match you'll likely have something that can barely keep it under 90c. The stock cooler on the 3600 is rated for 65w, but with extremely heavy and long workloads you can get the CPU to hit like 92c on it. The Dark Rock Pro4 is like a 250w TDP. I think a Gammaxx 400 is already rated for like 130w TDP, and far more than enough.

TDP isn't an exact science as everyone seems to measure it a little different, but it gives you an estimate at least.

Well, its hard to tell what went wrong the metal could have warped slightly from stress on the heat sink plate, the fan could have been slowed by constant use to nothing. However, the gamax 400 cooler by default is good for 125 watts of tpd. So it may just be a case of your cpu being to much for it, that however doesn't make it shit. Its quiet nice really. I didn't mean to insult you by instantiating you may have installed it wrong its just you see a lot of elitism and snobbery around parts on the internet and especially on Reddit, and it gets old. Its a fine Heat sink.

I have a Gammaxx 400 in my PC that’s a little cheaper if you prefer a different colored fan. There’s also a red option for the same price as the Hans. Temperatures aren’t as good, but the difference is negligible. Also, happy birthday!

Replaced the stock cooler on a 2400g with this. The stock cooler didn't let the CPU throttle, but was annoying sounding. This cooler kept it cooler and was sufficiently quiet.

Princes on these cheap coolers are higher than normal (potentially because of Covid), but this one is on sale for near your budget. If you're really hurting for budget. I would start off by using the stock cooler for a while and wait for prices to fall...and you never know, the stock cooler might be acceptable to you.

People spend way too much on coolers and 99% of them would have been fine with the included cooler. I run the above cooler and overclock my ryzen 3600 with no issues.

Depends if it’s and or I tel but this one I believe is intel (not 100% sure so you should check that out) and it’s quite cheep and a good brand

The wraith prism is also a good option, those can be had for $20-30 on the used or never opened market such as hardwareswap here on Reddit.

I just built a friend's 2600 with a 1070, overclocked to 4.1ghz all core with the liquid cooler, temps maxed at 58c.

I thought they all came with coolers (maybe not). The included cooler will run the 5600X, so you can stick with that. However, even a cheap cooler will provide better thermals and noise levels. I know you're not in the US, but this is what I use on my 1700 and it was only $20.

If you wanna spend $100 on a PSU, you can consider the Super Flower Leadex III, which is considered to be better on the PSU tier list.

For the memory, you can get a 3200MHz CL16 kit for the same price, so I'd get that instead.

Finally for the CPU cooler, you can get the Deepcool GAMMAXX 400 for $20, which should perform similarly to the Hyper 212, if you don't care about the looks.

For a GPU, the motherboard has a basic VGA adapter. You won't need a GPU to boot or install things, but you'd need a GPU for anything using hardware acceleration (gaming, transcoding, etc).

I personally wouldn't have a concern about hardware longevity of used server equipment.

For relevance compared to current desktop CPUs, the weakness is single thread performance. These particular Xeons will have only 60-70% the peak single-core performance of a recent desktop chip. If you know you just need one or two fast cores, you're going to get better bang for your buck with an i3-10300 or E3 3300X.

That mobo is shipped from Asia. If you're US-based, you should be able to find one domestically. Here's one shipping from US-MN.

An alternative, Asus also made a dual LGA-2011 ATX mobo, the z9pa-d8. You might consider that. Same number of DIMM slots but one more PCIe slot, and can take in Asus PIKE add-in card for an HBA. You might find one for cheaper than the Supermicro board, perhaps this one.

You'll also need square-ILM LGA2011 coolers. Serverbuilds.net has a list, but availability fluctuates. I recently went with the Gammaxx 400 for $25/ea. Note that the "v2" cooler does not have compatible mounting hardware for LGA20xx, so stick with the non-v2 version if you go that route.

Make sure you PSU has two EPS12V cables, or you'll need a splitter. 550w+ should be plenty, more if you add GPU(s).

Can someone figure out the difference between the two listings below from Amazon for the same (?) Gammaxx 400 cooler? The only differences I could find was the price ($10), sold by (Amazon vs. Deep Cool), first day of availability on Amazon (2012 vs 2014) and ASIN number (Amazon inventory number)? They look like the exact same item otherwise, and if they are, I don't see any reason to spend an extra $10.

It has been a few years since I built my last PC. In the install video via the $20.99 posting, the installer seems to haphazardly squirt thermal paste all over onto the CPU. I remember it being more of a delicate process before where it's recommended to put a pea-sized amount in the middle. Are the "rules" much more relaxed now where you dont' have to be as concerned about the application of paste?

In Canada, the i5-10400F costs $20 less than the R5 3600 that's also on sale right now ($240 vs $260 CAD). With the exact same mobo (Asus Prime Pro), the Z490 comes in at $210, and the X470 is $185 for AMD. Us consumers are further reeking in the benefits of competition :)

I already know someone is going to say this, but the "comes with a cooler" argument isn't a very compelling one since neither the stock AMD nor Intel cooler is that great. It's highly recommended that you spend $40 (CAD) more, or $30 USD and get a much better thermal experience.

The i5-10400F seems like the direct competitor to the R5 3600.
