If I was to going to add 8gb more would I be able to just purchase this single stick or would I have to buy a 16gb(2x8gb) kit?

One of these crucial sticks should meet your needs.

I just bought this RAM off Amazon

I would prefer to have two identical ram sticks kit like 16GB(8GBx2) kit but if you are limited on finance then make sure that RAM spec. is 3200Mhz and on JEDEC specs. like for example those things I will link it to you.
or
so like that you get 16GB of RAM total and full speed on 3200Mhz.
1 points • timmyisme22
Just know that this laptop does not have XMP unlocked in the bios. Can't make those adjustments, so gotta stay with 1.2v JEDEC rated speeds.
CT2K8G4SFS832A is the Crucial branded release. While it's a Micron sticker on the original OEM stick included with the computer, Crucial is owned by Micron and both are exactly the same model when read by the computer (MTA8ATF1G64HZ-3G2J1, checked with CPUID). CL22 at 3200mhz.

An alternative (I haven't tested it) is the Kingston CL20 ram. It's a bit faster, but you'll have to buy both sticks to get that speed. Once again, I have not tested it.

Update? Did you got a performance boost after adding the ram? How much is the boost?

I cannot say for 100% sure, but it looks like it would be compatible. Although, it already comes with one slot filled, so if you want 16gb ram you could simply buy a single 8gb stick.

Will this one work? Its 3 years old but seems to meet all the criteria. https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC4-25600-Unbuffered-260-Pin/dp/B07Q3HNC79

I have the same model and by default it comes with 1 stick of 8gb soldered on with room for 1 more stick.
Edit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q3HNC79/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I added a stick of this in and so far seems to be working great.

here ... same speed as the soldered one... if you also have 8gb soldered as me.
I wouldn't risk installing more thought, because of only partial dual channel if you try installing more

Another M.2 slot is open also but that process is so easy I don’t think you’ll need a video. The place for it is marked on the board just plug it in and screw it down
EDIT: Here’s a video in how to install the RAM.
EDIT 2: Found a video on how to add an extra M.2
If you need any help at all feel free to reply to this or PM me!

The stock cooler won't fit, so you'll need an aftermarket low profile cooler. Something like a noctua l9a-am4 should fit.
You're unlikely to get to anything past 3200Mhz, zen+ chips don't like going too much higher usually. You'll need to set up a XMP to get to the advertised ram speeds, otherwise it will just default to 2400mhz or similar. It looks like the deskmini plays best with a 1.20v memory rather then 1.35v memory kits.
There are only a couple of ram sticks on the QVL if you want guaranteed compatibility, but you will have to pay more, only one 3200mhz comes as a kit, the other two are single sticks, I can't guarantee two same model sticks working together, but it's pretty likely.
2x8gb kit 3200mhz(high latency)
Personally, I'd just opt for this kit and use a dram calculator to get the best settings.

The 3400g has been out for a while, I'm unsure of when the newer 4200g and 4400g were to become available and whether the deskmini would support it.
