So, that one has 8 GB RAM soldered and there is an open RAM slot. This 3200MHz 8 GB RAM stick will work.

I’ve heard that this one works with my laptop https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC4-25600-SODIMM-260-Pin-Memory/dp/B08C4Z69LN/ref=as_li_ss_tl?dchild=1&keywords=crucial+ddr4+3200&qid=1603616192&sr=8-3&linkCode=sl1&tag=jimincome-20&linkId=72e10474308e43d50576bd868504bf6c&language=en_US

I switched over from a MacBook a few months ago also. The switch to Windows has been a little fraught, but I think I’m finally getting the hang of it. MS sure makes things needlessly difficult though...

As far as sticks of RAM this is the OEM ram stick. It’s cheap, available, and works well. CL20 would be overkill I believe.

hello i know verry little about hardware. here's some quiestion.
i have samsung M471A1K43DB1-CWE 8gb ram laptop's stock ram (dont know what latency this have) and if i add this crucial ram this work dual channel? or should i buy kit (2x8gb) crucial for best?
can i overclock 2 different brand ram?
i want to save money but i dont want to lose performance too (1tb ssd+mouse+headset Total sum of them really hit big number)

Bought it for my brother and it works pretty well. SSD makes the load time pretty quick. Would recommend if you're a casual gamer and great for multi tasking as well. If you're getting a HDD make sure to get a SATA Cable because it doesnt come with one. Bought this one and it works. Also bought this 8GB of Ram as well.

Here is an Amazon link to what I bought. The trick is to make sure it runs 3200MT/s @ 1.2V; you don't have to get HyperX specifically. In fact, I just looked and crucial also has a 3200MTs/ @ 1.2V option here. I saw a different offering from crucial which I considered false advertising of 3200MT/s because you had to overclock to 1.38V (which is impossible for the L14). By default it was 2666 MT/s. Hope this helps! For what it's worth, I have not even come close to using all 64GB lol. The most I got was like 27GB building and linking a large C++ project. You could probably get away with 32GB but I don't know your situation so that could be the wrong advice.

You want this:

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC4-25600-SODIMM-260-Pin-Memory/dp/B08C4Z69LN/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=8gb%2Bddr4%2Bcl22&qid=1600502268&sr=8-13&th=1

This will take the 2nd slot to make 2x8gb=16gb dual channel memory. Biggest performance boost for the cheapest price. Videos on youtube on how to do the upgrade.

Dual Channel is simply having two RAM slots populated. The advantage to this is having more memory bandwidth available for access to the CPU, resulting in better performance (tangible fps boost in games). On the base model, 8gb of RAM is soldered onto the motherboard (non-user accessible) and one slot is free for the user to access. Go to Task Manager -> Performance -> Memory and note the speed of your current memory. You need to buy a DDR4 3200Mhz SODIMM RAM Stick (matching your current memory speed) - something like this Crucial stick will do - https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-DDR4-Laptop-Memory-CT8G4SFRA32A/dp/B08C4Z69LN/ref=sr_1_2?crid=21ANWTOFT9YUA&dchild=1&keywords=8gb+3200+sodimm&qid=1606257011&sprefix=8gb+3200%2Caps%2C464&sr=8-2

When buying RAM I mostly get recommended the cheapest and relatively reliable option instead of going for those "Gamer" RAM sticks which charge a premium for relatively no gain. I don't know your country and I'm not sure about retailers in the US so this one is all I'm able to find.

ok ty and sorry for being a noob, i've been out of the computer game for probably a decade. if i were to add this would that be an acceptable choice? https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC4-25600-SODIMM-260-Pin-Memory/dp/B08C4Z69LN/

I know i'd likely be mixing brands

> RAM questions

I made it an 8+8! There’s benefits to not having lopsided RAM sticks as overall performance can be benefited from dual channel RAM. Here’s a post that explains it better than I ever could!

And additionally, here’s the Amazon link for the 8gb stick I bought.

You can also check your laptop RAM compatibility with this tool from Crucial (manufacturer) before you buy.

> Also I am trying to get them away from tiny 5-6" screens playing fortnite, instead go to laptop with external maybe 23" monitors or even HDMI to my TV with wireless controllers, what do you think?

There are many people who connect laptops to external monitors for work, gaming, etc.

I think its a great idea!

However, if you’re unsure if your kids will even respond to gaming, I would try connecting the laptop to the TV first so you don’t end up spending money on a monitor they won’t use.

I believe Steam also has “big picture mode” you can use with your TV.

> Game Pass / Game Pass Ultimate

So the base subscription to Game Pass is for console only. The more expensive tier is Game Pass Ultimate which is for console + PC + includes xCloud (Xbox’s new cloud gaming streaming service available for PC / Android).

If you don’t currently have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, what you can do is buy Xbox Live Gold (36 months maximum at a time).

Once you have Live, you can subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate for $1 (temporary deal, not sure of when it will end) and it will convert all of your Live months to GPU, which is what I did.

> Nitro 5

I did research on laptops using this sub for awhile and for the pricepoint (sub-$800), the Nitro 5 is the best gaming laptop you’ll get, unless you can find something slightly used on eBay/Craiglist.

I hated the red too when I bought it, but it’s not as gaudy in real life as you’d think!

How much do you want to spend on a RAM upgrade?

Your PC apparently has 4GB RAM soldered on board and then a single SODIMM slot that from what I've read can accept up to a 16GB DDR4 SODIMM. 8GB will give you a total of 12GB and 16gb will give you a total of 20GB.

Which here's 8gb for $30.

And 16GB for $60.

As far as actually upgrading it goes, Here is a good resource. Or I'm sure you'll get a few results if you search the model number on youtube if you prefer a video.

Lemme know if you have any other questions

Asus A15 crashes while gaming after RAM install

I recently bought the Asus TUF A15 FA506IV-BR7N12 when it was on sale at Best Buy. Given that it only came with 8GB of ram but comes with an extra slot, I decided to buy and install an 8GB stick of the Crucial CT8G4SFRA32A.C4FE DDR4-3200; I also upgraded the wifi card to a OKN WiFi 6 AX200 802.11ax.

Everything seemed to be going fine, the computer recognized the ram and it was operating at 3200 MHz, but every time I tried to play Destiny 2 the computer would crash after a few minutes. Sometimes there was a blue screen, sometimes nothing. The first blue screen errors were UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP. After I did a repair install of windows, the error switched to IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I had assumed that the ram upgrade was not the source of this problem since my Windows Memory Diagnostic run came back with no issues. However, after taking out the new ram and wifi card in preparation for possibly returning the computer, I have now been able to play my game for several hours without a crash.

I thought all of the upgrade parts I ordered were fully compatible; did I make a mistake here, or could it be possible that I received a defective unit? Either way, if someone has an idea of what happened here and how I could move forward with increasing the ram, I would be grateful to hear your thoughts.
