You probably aren't going to need the stepper dampers, I don't think they will even fit on the ender 3 pro steppers.

Is there a reason you are getting a silicone hot ender cover? Never seen anyone grab one of those right out of the gate.

If you spend a little more on the extruder upgrade, you can bundle improved bed springs and an upgraded bowden for a lot cheaper than individually. Link to an example kit on Amazon.

If you have a microcenter close by you can actually save a decent amount getting an Ender 3 pro in store over the amazon price. Not many people do but figured I would mention it, their PLA they carry is pretty good too.

A kit like this was my first choice and gets recommended a lot! https://www.amazon.com/Creality-Capricorn-Upgraded-Pneumatic-Bed-level/dp/B081DN6RM2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ender+3+v2+upgrade+kit&qid=1606174229&sprefix=Ender+3+v2+u&sr=8-3

If all goes well I'll be upgrading the extruder with this so I can have easier access when trying to clean it.
Right now it's just a PITA.

if you are using the stock (came with the printer) springs - get some upgraded springs.

Amazon sells a upgrade kit, with new springs and other bits for $20

I highly recommend this kit (it has an aluminum extruder, the yellow bed springs, and a Capricorn bowden tube) as a future upgrade before any other purchased upgrades. Other than that, you need Patience, lots of it. You will need that for when you are putting the printer together, you will need it for when you are dialing it in, you will need it for the time it takes to print things, and above all you will need to help you learn from your failures (there will be more then you like).

As for other tips, do your research on everything while you wait. Watch this video now and then watch it again when you build your printer (it will help immensely). Find a slicer program you feel comfortable with, some people use Cura, some use PrusaSlicer and you know what? That is ok. I personally use Cura because it was the first one I found. Since you will be the proud owner of a 3D printer, take the time to learn how to use a CAD program (like Fusion 360 which is free to use a hobbyist), you never know when you will want to design a practical print instead of tracking down that hard to find part. Go into this with a hobby mindset and not a "this is how I am going to make money" mindset, if you happen to make money good on you!

Above all else, have fun and happy printing!

Do you mean the hot end, or something more like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081DN6RM2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KO6uFbXBGKJ3Z

Thank you so much for the advice. Taking a look it seems that mine is a left hand extruder, but I think Im going to go with this right hand one because it seems like the only difference between left and right is my filament sensor, which already does not work.

Like others have said, it's most likely your bowden tube loosening up on the hotend and causing plastic to leak everywhere...

If your printer is stock, do yourself a favor and buy this upgrade kit. It has a higher quality PTFE tube, better fittings for said tubing, stiffer/longer springs for the bed (leveling less often!), and finally a metal extruder arm/body. The standard plastic extruder WILL crack eventually, and it's honestly just a pain to figure out what's the issue when that happens, you're better off just putting the aluminum one on it instead.

Yes, but personally here is a better kit. You'll really need the yellow springs. The Capricorn will come both the smaller inferior brass coupler (if you were to mount to black plastic or the red extruder) and a larger better silver coupler. For the silver extruder. You'll use the bigger silver coupler.

I was talking about the bed leveling springs, the orange ones in this kit.

THIS kit will upgrade your extruder, boden tube, and springs for just over $20.

The stock extruder is incredibly flimsy so I'd definitely switch to an all metal one.

I'd also suggest an all metal hot end as well. Micro Swiss makes one that is a drop in replacement.

The springs make leveling the bed easier, and eventually the stock extruder assembly wears out.

always happy to see new people printing. check out teaching tech on youtube and watch some of his videos on the ender 3. take some time to learn about the printer before you start modifying it, it’ll save you a lot of headache later on. once you’ve got the basics down though i highly recommend this kit. these are the most basic upgrades but can make a huge difference.

I have already replaced my plastic one (which was working fine) for a creality-branded metal one.

I checked the motor for a loose connection, but not on the board itself. Either way, just yesterday I was replacing the nozzle to go from a 0.2 to 0.4 during my troubleshooting, and while the nozzle was off I ran the extruder so it would pass directly out the heat block and force anything there that mightve been in the area out of there. It was able to perform that manual motion just fine and I told it to move 30mm. But it just wasn't moving during the print (other than the retract and recover)

Order this ASAP. No, it'ss not an affiliate link and they're not paying me to send this. You're just guaranteed to have a completely awful experience in a day or two if you don't replace the garbage Bowden tube and fittings that come with the machine.

Also, you should move your spool holder all the way to the left so the filament doesn't have to bend so sharply into the extruder.

Have fun! I have two of these printers and I keep them running almost 24/7.

If it wasn't because of an un-level bed, I second checking the extruder gear. Mine recently did a similar thing and it was because the tension spring wasn't taught enough anymore. You can try stretching the spring or printing this to see if it helps. I ended up buying a metal extruder set which has been working beautifully.

2 points • Representative_Panda

I second this, except I got this kit (https://amazon.com/gp/product/B081DN6RM2) and knocked out all the minor upgrades (yellow springs, metal filament feeder, Capricorn tubing) in one go. I've only had the springs on for a few days, but so far the bed seems to be keeping level far better than before.

Ender 3 pro with something like this,

https://www.amazon.com/Creality-Capricorn-Upgraded-Pneumatic-Bed-level/dp/B081DN6RM2/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=Ender+3+pro+upgrade+kit&qid=1598549696&sr=8-5

Just avoid the aluminum knobs since they make leveling much tougher as they're more difficult to fine tune.

I ordered from .shop, it was the only place that didn't have a crazy markup, so honestly I'm not -surprised- I ended up with an upgrade. And I mean yeah it's great I'm sure I just now have no idea what I'm doing lol, like for instance, you say the microswiss hotend will fit on it. Should I use it? Is it still the better piece? Is there any difference between the ender 5 pro metal extruder and the aftermarket one? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081DN6RM2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
that's the one I ordered for the 5, and it came with this capricorn tubing but again, I don't know if that's better than what comes on the 5 pro stock.

1 points • blacksmithforlife

I bought them all separately, but it is cheaper to get this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081DN6RM2/

To me the main upgrades you will need to do are:

1) better springs

2) aluminum extruder

3)better PTFE tubing to use with Chep's nozzle fix

You don't need a whole new hot end unless you broke yours

r/ender5plus • comment
1 points • DodgeDeBoulet

That one will work with the Ender 5 Plus. If the parts shown in the images are correct, it does not include a spring tensioner, unlike most other metal extruders.

I went with the Creality branded aluminum extruder. It looks almost identical to the one you linked except that it's a matte silver color. It does have a spring tensioning mechanism and is available in a kit that includes authentic Capricorn tubing and replacement bed springs or as a separate item.

Hey all, I recently got an Ender 3 Pro and have purchased a few upgrades for it, one of which is the sturdier springs. Ever since I installed these, I can't seem to get my bed completely level to the nozzle. The weird thing is, it seems like the bed is "shifting". Like I get it to a place where it _seems_ level, but then I check it again after heating the nozzle to do a print (did leveling with bed heated) and I'm hitting the nozzle with a piece of paper and can't get it under the nozzle as easy. It even seems to change if I just get up for a minute to do something else and come back.

Has anyone experienced this or know what the problem could be? Pic not included cause I don't really think it's necessary - the springs were purchased as part of this pack: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081DN6RM2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I opted not to modify the springs that came and just adjusted my z switch so the bed fits under the nozzle correctly.

I did this extruder upgrade kit.

I used BTT pre-compiled firmware version 2.0.7.2 so not sure on what the microstep value is but in looking at their configuration_adv.h it looks like it should be 16.

I see there is an M350 which can set the microstepping but not sure how I can get the current values and M503 doesn't appear to report the microstepping (M350) values.
