I just completed my first build and I used the Corsair LL RGB fans and they plugged in super easily to my x570 unify and they work great. Pricy, but because I’m going with an air cooled system, I wanted quality.

I'm considering replacing these with a 3 pack of corsair 120 rgb fans.

Corsair also sells a package which contains 3 rgb fans and a rgb hub. You might want to check that out. I think this is it: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-LL120-120mm-Light-Lighting/dp/B075VGN4M1

Speaking of Lite-Brite...

I was in a computer shop the other day, and while I was standing there waiting for some parts I had asked for, my attention was caught by a column of these things. That got me wondering, "Why?"

Here's the thing about chassis fans: If I walked just a few blocks away to a hobbyist electronics store, I could buy one made out of steel that could run for good several years or more nonstop at the same price or less. Granted, it wouldn't be as attention-grabbing as one with arrays of LEDs hooked to a dedicated controller, but unless your chassis was made out of plexiglass or something, no one was supposed to be able to see if your chassis fans had spinning rainbows on them or not anyway.

Oh, and the fun thing about plexiglass was that the it could get scratched easily really fast, so I hoped whoever this fad was aimed at wouldn't mind scratch marks and dust bunnies for additional accessorising for their "rigs" down the line.

Ugh, gamers.

Well, I was referring to this pack: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-LL120-120mm-Light-Lighting/dp/B075VGN4M1

But I guess that one works too, whichever you find prettier and/or has more cooling performance.

Not OP, but those are the Corsair LL120. They're good fans, I use them in my build.

EDIT: There is a white version as well.

Lan Li lancool 205. It can hold two front fans, two top fans, and one rear fan. I have the two Lan Li fans that came with it, and I have three Corsair LL Series LL120 RGB 120mm as well. My motherboard supports four fan power ports.

Willing to ship. Left fans in the case so you can see the RGB working, I can take a picture of them outside case if necessary

Prefer to trade for white LL120s directly but willing to do cash as well

Looking for $80 for three LL120s or three LL140s, they were bought at the end of December so pretty new. Only willing to sell three of each or all, not willing to sell individual fans.

Yes, they're 120mm fans. (That's the standard size).

Those maglev fans are fancy! I usually recommend the LL series to people. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075VGN4M1/ref=dp_cr_wdg_tit_nw_mr

I understand, I can link you to the products I use, however I can only control the speed of the fans through bio's even with the splitter, which I knew would happen so I'm okay with that. The triple packs come's with the RGB controller, but you'll need the Node PRO that'll allow you to connect both controllers together to allow all 10 fan's rgb to work and sync together.

Any 120mm RGB fans will work. It depends on how you want them to work though.

Let's stick with 3 x 120mm fans for now. I assume you know that most 120mm RGB fans have 2 sets of cables, one to power the fan and one to power/address the RGB portion of it.

Option 1: use proprietary hardware/software = Corsair LL120's 3 pack

  • These 3 fans all hook up together, and the RGB is hooked up together as well. the RGB is hooked into a spare USB 2.0 header. you then have to download Corsair iCue to manage the RGB.
  • the motherboard's software is not involved at all.

Option 2: use proprietary hardware, no software * https://www.amazon.com/Jateko-366LED-Remote-Controller-Cooler/dp/B07S116C4S * These 3 fans all hook up together, and the RGB is hooked up together as well. However, there is no motherboard integration (either via header or USB) -- you have to use an IR remote to change the RGB colors. * the motherboard's software is not involved at all.

Option 3: use MSI Mystic Light

  • the MSI B450 Tomahawk has a 12V aRGB (4-pin) header
  • this means you can buy (almost) any generic 12V aRGB 4-pin device, and use the MSI Mystic Sync software for your motherboard
  • it has to be 12V aRGB (4-pin), there is also 5V aRGB (3-pin) which will not work with your motherboard
  • Here's an example of 3 x 120mm fans that have the RGB portion daisy chain together, and can be controlled via the 12V header on your motherboard:

I recommend corsair fans. I have had a lot of good experience with them and they are my go to. Though other redditors may have a different brand they prefer.

I replaced my case fans with Corsair LL120s. Though they are RGB though.

Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075VGN4M1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I replaced mine because the stock case fans were static RPM and just simply weren't keeping my rig cool and were also noisy. My GPU (GTX1080TI) would overheat and close games.

I have noticed these are pretty quiet, even at full speed.

You could also go with ML120s. These are magnetic levitation fans are supposed to be very quiet while also pushing a lot of air.

Here is a link for flat black non-RGB: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075VGN4M1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't have any personal experience with the ML series, but I have read they push a lot of air and are quiet.

Also, having control over the fan RPMs can help with noise level. I keep my LL120 fans at normal speed levels while doing normal tasks, like web browsing, using Microsoft programs, etc. When I run higher end games, Ill ramp up the RPM of the fans to max to get good airflow and keep everything cool.

Hey, that's super sweet. $100 parts that are useful no matter what choices he makes are SSD, RAM, Case, CPU Cooler, PSU and, of course, RGB fans.

Opinions will vary of what you should get since each part selection depends on the overall build and budget, so if you knew how much he's willing to spend in total I would be able to give you the best recommendation.

Personally, I would recommend getting a good quality NVME SSD like a XPG 8200 Pro 1TB when they go on sale: https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8200-Gen3x4-3000MB-ASX8200PNP-1TT-C/dp/B07K1J3C23

You generally can't go wrong with the SSD pick since all systems, no matter the size, need a hard drive and the one linked is easily one of the best out there, especially for the money. There's also the SK Hynix Gold P31 1 TB that's one of the top of the chart picks: https://www.amazon.com/SK-hynix-Gold-500GB-Internal/dp/B08DK2FB7G

Wait for sales though.

Otherwise, I guess you can't go wrong with RGB fans. Just note that many cases come with fans preinstalled and CPU coolers as well, so without knowing what those are, it's hard to say whether or not he'll need them although he most-likely will. Corsair is pretty popular with the lads but you can type "rgb fans" in an Amazon search and get shopping. Here's some Corsair LL ones: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-LL120-120mm-Light-Lighting/dp/B075VGN4M1/
