Same price on Newegg too. Ram has come down so much I’m not sure how amazing of a deal either the crucial or Corsair RGB ram is. But I’m tempted since I only have 16gb.

I personally have bad luck with using 4 sticks of ram and I’d recommend using 2 sticks of 16gb. This is a good set to look into, it’s also on sale right now.

Edit: I know you can find cheaper 32gb kits but this specific one runs at 3200mhz and you could pay cheaper but those ram kits will likely run anywhere around 2400mhz, so that’s up to you on what you get.

2x16 3200 best value, 3600 is very good for video editing and rendering but not necessarily the best unless you have quite a few cores on your CPU(8+ cores). Never build for filling the system. build for compatibility. You can always get more ram, as most newer boards hold up to 64GB. As for the gaming side, don't expect a significant performance increase from 3200-3600.

Can I get your thoughts on some ram sticks? Since I do a lot of video creation (both after effects animation and premier editing/color grading), I need a hefty amount of ram, since preview playback is based on ram, this affects how fast your workflow is in general.

Ideally I'd like 64gb of ram, but probably not right away, i can build this up over time since the need isn't dire, i don't have any big projects until the world reopens. I have been looking at this corsair ram that sits at 16gb a stick, but I really don't want to pay for RGB, because my computer is completely hidden anyways so i don't care about lights or w/e. Do you recommend that Crucial Ballistix ram over the corsair?

Windows for casual gaming, MacOS for everything else including video editing. I know it’s not the most powerful machine, but at least I’ll be able to upgrade CPU and GPU if/when it’s necessary. I could get a 5700xt but I’m not thrilled with the QC of the hardware so I’d rather wait.

Thanks for the info on the cooler. I’ll take a look at it!

Silent Boot Loop,Post RAM Swap

I upgraded my RAM, and now when I boot nothing comes up on my screen. There are no beeps. The hardware does power on for 30 seconds, shuts off, and 2 seconds later does it all over again. The system had zero issues before.

I heard the “click” when I pushed them both in, and they are in the proper slots for having just 2 sticks (same as before). I haven’t unseated/reseated them yet because it is an endeavor to move the tower in the first place. I will do it, but checking here in case there is something I am forgetting to try. Thank you!

Might want to adjust your prices a bit, the 3700x and SSD's are above amazon prices right now, and the ram is basically the same. There's also been a bunch of sales on buildapcsales that you might want to wait out too on a lot of ram and NVME drives. GLWS!

$2k for a Hackintosh...can I build a fast, solid machine with the enclosed components?

Hi everyone!

So with the announcement of Apple moving to ARM next year or so, I wanted to hold back on buying a new Mac. My 2014 MBP is showing its age and there’s some battery/boot problems (another story). My Mac Mini from 2015 or so decided it can’t use a monitor - so I’m in the market.

Every time I price out a 16” MBP, I get to $5300 or more (highest GFX, 2TB HD, 64GB ram)...which, for something that might be obsolete in a few short years time, might not be the best investment. I see how quick my iPad Pro is with rendering 360 videos from my GoPro, or working with my RAW photos, and I am sure Apple is going to knock it out of the park with ARM, but for now, I need a personal computer that isn’t my work Mac (2017 MBP 15) or my iPad Pro.

When Hackintosh first was a thing, I built one, but it was never truly stable. Granted, the lay of the land was quite different back then. Eventually I paid the Apple tax and have been in the ecosystem since. But things are different now, and I feel like diving back into some tinkering, but also with a bit of stability.

I have been doing some research, and put together a system for about $1900. I wanted to know if this setup seems like a solid, quick setup to you. I went with Intel because of the Thunderbolt 3 native capability for down the road. I have a Samsung 49” Ultrawide 5k monitor that I would be using this with. I don’t plan to game, but rather, do image and video editing (Leica 47mp RAW, Video, GoPro Max, 4K DJI footage, etc.)

I’m unsure what my hesitation is. I want to say I picked the right parts...but when I get to $2k, I ask myself if I should just get a MBP 13” and leverage that, or an entry level 15” MBP. Is the system I am planning to build powerful enough that it would be drastically different from the MBP?

I keep looking at benchmarks and such, and it’s a rabbit hole...but if any of the Hackintosh experts here could guide me as to whether I’m making a good or bad decision with the below, I’d truly appreciate it!

Well not if you're getting that specific ram it is. I don't know where you're looking for ram but that's pretty fucking expensive for 32 gb.

I mean my ram is way cheaper

So is this corsair ram

I mean just looking it up on any website will give you prices that are far lower than that.

Best buy

Micro Center (I couldn't search for specifically 32gb but you can just look for it)

New Egg

You can even find 64gb for less than that price

So I have no idea where you got that price from. Either you're bullshitting or the manufacturer/seller is. If you really did find that ram for that price then it's definitely a scam.

Build Advice Part 2

>I made a post a few weeks ago on this subreddit, and got lots of good advice for my build. With the release of the B550, potenial release of the RTX 3000 in the near future, and shortage of PSU's, and B4550 Tomhawks, I was wondering how much of my build I should change and keep.

Budget: Roughly $1400 before tax and excluding monitor.

Games I Want To Run: MOBA'S (League of Legends), FPS (Valorant, Warzone), AAA Games (Doom Eternal, Monster Hunter World).

Quality I Want: 1440p 60 Hz for more demanding games/1080p 144Hz.

Purpose of This Computer: Multitasking (Gaming, Microsoft Office, Discord, Spotify,).

Micro Center Near Me: Yes.

Parts I Have: Mouse, Wifi Adapter, Keyboard, Speakers & Headset, Bluetooth adapter.

When Do I Want To Purchase: Within the next few months.

Questions:

  1. MOBO: I have heard a lot of people comparing the B550 Tomahawk and x570 Tomahawk, which one is better for the price? Or is there a better option in the B550 line?
  2. Memory: Is it worth it to get two sticks 0f 16GB DDR4-3200 Ram for $65 more ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GTG2T7L?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 ), instead of two sticks of 8GB DDR4-3600 for $95?
  3. Storage: I can most likely get a 1TB NVme for $140 (this will be my main storage), what will be good options for future storage add-ons?
  4. Video Card: What is the best 2070 Super card? Should I wait for the RTX 3000 series, and do you think the price of some of the 3000 series will be similar to the 2070 Super?
  5. Case: I've had a hard time finding a practical and good looking case. I've had people recommend the Phanteks 300A, and it seems okay; what are some cases with good airflow, easy cable management, and look visually pleasing for around $50-$120?
  6. Monitor: I know this is probably one of the parts I shouldn't skimp on, but I'm looking to get a 1080p 144Hz monitor for now, and upgrade to a great 1440p 144z monitor/monitors later. What are some good 1080p 144Hz monitors that are around $200-300ish, (if anyone can find a somewhat decent 1440p 144Hz for that pricepoint that would also be great).

Thanks in Advance,

-
