I used WD40 electrical contact cleaner to fix mine. $7 and it works like it’s brand new again..

Sure. Just make sure it's electrical contact cleaner (like Electrical Contact Cleaner ). I used automotive Mass Airflow Cleaner because I happened to have some on hand. You want something safe for electronics that dries quickly and leaves ZERO residue.

No something like this from WD 40 or you could use high % isopropyl alcohol, but I find this words better. however, give it plenty of time to dry after. For whatever reason, when I clean carts with it, they need like 5 minutes after before they’re working.

Wd40 makes a specialty spray for electronics, i think thats what OP is talking about.

The best fix is contact cleaner, it works very very very well, and staves the drift for anywhere between 3 weeks to 3 mos, and requires not much.

Here's a link.

It gets rid of dust and other small residue without damaging electronics. Supposedly works well for drifting joycons. I have some at home for when my joycons inevitably start drifting. If you go with wd40 make sure you get the electrical contact cleaner not standard wd40 as they look somewhat similar. Here it is on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Company-300554-Specialist-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B084VP9JJK

So you have ignored my comment while commenting on my comment.

Allow me to elaborate:

Buy a can of electrical contact cleaner like this one for like $7. It is also available at hardware stores. Then, spray under the flap beneath the joystick for a few seconds. Swivel the joystick around to spread the fluid out. Allow to dry for 5 minutes. Your drift will be fixed. Drift will eventually return, but luckily, you have a can of electrical contact cleaner, so you can just use it again, and your drift will be gone for several more months. It is incredibly cheap, incredibly easy, it WORKS, and best of all, you can enjoy your Switch.

1.- Remove as much chamoy as possible with a toothpick or plastic fork or anything wooden or plastic. Do not use metallic objects. 2.- Clean the port with a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol (at least 90% alcohol) or contact cleaner. 3.- Be sure its 100% dry before using it again.

I use WD-40 contact cleaner:

Try spraying a healthy dose of this under the circle pad: WD-40 Electrical Contact Cleaner. Note that this is specifically the Electrical Contact Cleaner variety and not regular WD-40.

I've never used this, but I had a buddy that repaired electronics back in the day and he swore by it. https://www.amazon.com/Company-300554-Specialist-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B084VP9JJK#:~:text=WD%2D40%20Specialist%20Electrical%20Contact%20Cleaner%20Spray%2C%20featuring%20patented%20Smart,no%20residue%20and%20removes%20soil.

Nail polish remover can damage your board BTW, don't use that

Get WD-40 Electronic Contact spray, and spray under the flap of the joycon. Theres tutorials on youtube of how to do it. It's pretty simple. Its like $10. I did this over a month ago, havent had drift since. Ive read that it's a temporary fix, but you can always do it once a month or so if needed. It was drifting pretty bad before that. Unfortunately, nothing you can do about the Pro Controller issue. Weird decision on their part.

You can also find this at a Home Depot, if there is one around you.

A lot of people who are suffering from stick drift should wash their hands more often. The skin from your fingers fall under the thumbsticks and cause stick drift. Of course this isn't every case but a lot of the times you can use this to clean under the thumbsticks and it will blow that shit loose.

I've had the same controller for 2+ years, zero issues, and I play daily.

I solved the drift issue on my joycons with just a bit of wd-40 electrical cleaner contact spray. They're as good as new again.

Might be worth looking at contact cleaner. When the liquid dries it'll leave residue - and it's the residue that may well render the switch inoperable.

Most thermal paste is non conductive but I would clean the CPU to avoid any problems.

You can clean the CPU with electronic contact cleaner

https://www.amazon.com/Company-300554-Specialist-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B084VP9JJK

It might take a couple passes but it will get all the thermal paste out

Contact cleaner is safe to use on electronics and dries almost instantly. It's the safest way to clean the CPU.

Isn't joycon drift caused by DUST that get under the flap of the joysticks? I believe that's why contact cleaners work against them, or even compressed air should do.

That would mean playstyle or duration of usage shouldn't have an impact, as much as the joycons collecting dust from here and there and over time. Or am I totally off the mark?

----------------------

I lost my neon yellow joy-cons at a friend's house over the summer, and I believe they were drift-free before I lost them. When I finally found them (and was overcome with joy), they had contracted the drift. They were hidden under his bed or something, so the dust theory seems kinda plausible. I was super careful with them as well.

This is what you need: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084VP9JJK

Lift up the tab under the joycon and spray under there to solve the drift.

In the mean time, use a q-tip with rubbing alcohol to clean under there.

Just a dab will do it with this. I did my ps4 too when I was trying to fix the disc drive.

I used the wd40 contact cleaner a qtip and a little flat plastic piece to clean it off https://www.amazon.com/Company-300554-Specialist-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B084VP9JJK
