PSA: CAC-1085 Released (DP1.4 to HDMI2.1 4K 120Hz adapter)

Hi folks,

A lot of us have been waiting for this product because it enables us to get 4K 120Hz 4:4:4 on the LG CX with a GPU that doesn't have an HDMI 2.1 port: https://www.amazon.com/Club-3D-DisplayPort1-4-4K120Hz-CAC-1085/dp/B08BX49V5V/

It doesn't look like it supports VRR unfortunately. But otherwise the featureset seems solid and this was the only DP1.4-HDMI2.1 active adapter I could find.

Nah i spoke too soon, there are issues, but if you can put up with them, 4k120 rgb + hdr does work. until resolutions change. https://www.amazon.com/Club-3D-DisplayPort1-4-4K120Hz-CAC-1085/dp/B08BX49V5V

This is the only one available right now but it’s not pretty good(at least with a PC). But I am pretty sure more and better versions will release once the consoles are out. Not everyone can afford a new high refresh monitor. This is a nice solution for some who already owns one and specially if the new 2.1 monitors are more expensive

They verified the CX supports 4k120. I assume they have something like this which does indeed work.

Certified to what spec? I'm not sure if there are still any 2.1 certified cables. There are cables that work at 2.1 bandwidth, but haven't gone through the certification process.

But if you believe that the cable should be ok, then I'd test with another GPU/machine. Or with Displayport -> HDMI 2.1 adapter (Club3D recently released one)

Club3d makes them, but they are sold out everywhere as far as I know.

That's what the adaptor is for. Something like this even claims to support HDR... however I'd personally be skeptical of that. Worth a try though.

Not true, this adapter (Club3D CAC-1085 Displayport to HDMI 2.1 adapter) came out recently and I am currently using it. I get 4k 120hz RGB full 12bpc with HDR on my LG B9 TV. The adapter is buggy and isn't the best since it has a USB power cable you need to unplug and plug back in each time you boot or change resolutions. But I've been doing 4K 120 for a week now and loving it! Your TV needs to support HMDI 2.1 by the way and it doesn't support gysnc/freesync.

A Displayport 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter is in development with pre-orders available.

You can do 4K 120Hz via HDMI 2.0 on the X series but only in SDR 8-bit YCC 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, this is tolerable for games and movies but not the desktop.

So it depends on your usage pattern and tolerance.

With this adapter you should be able to get 4k@120hz + HDR on PC. I am not sure if VRR/freesync works with it or not.

48" CX with Club3D Adapter

Has anyone here tried the (in)famous Club3D adapter with their 48" CX?

I read elsewhere that people are discovering that CX/C9 do not support 4:4:4 4k 120Hz even with a HDMI 2.1 source. Like 1080p 120Hz, it's limited to 4:2:2. This test pattern being the classic way of testing as described here.

Reviews seem really hit or miss but some claim this will work

The TV does not have Displayport (there is one Alienware which has the same OLED Panel, but it costs 4000 dollar, instead of 1200 dollar). There is one Club3D DP to HDMI 2.1 converter, but the reviews are so bad, that I am not going to dip my toes into that one: https://www.amazon.com/Club-3D-DisplayPort1-4-Adapter-CAC-1085/dp/B08BX49V5V
