Hygiene & Grooming
Hey y'all, these are some tips/routines that I've refined over the years. Many guys think they're ugly, when they really just have shitty hygiene, fashion, and fitness. Nailing your hygiene & grooming can EASILY take you up a point or 2 on the 10 scale. This may seem like a lot/obnoxious/gay/metrosexual, but it will make you more attractive. After a few days, it'll turn into a smooth and efficient routine. Good luck boys. Feel free to private message me for specific advice.
Daily
Shower
- Use lukewarm water. Hot ass water is bad for your skin.
- Shampoo your hair 2-3 times a week. Use conditioner on the other days.
- Use a foaming facial cleanser (here or here) on your face. Use this at night as well. Use an exfoliating scrub 2 times a week to remove dead skin cells.
- I recommend using a loofah and body wash, but a bar of soap is fine. Wash your entire body. Especially your shoulders, chest, underarms, groin, ass, and feet.
Post Shower
- Once out of the shower, apply antiperspirant deodorant & use a Q-tip on your ears.
- Do your hair. Using a blow dryer & hair product will add to the sexy factor.
- Put some toner on a cotton ball & apply it to your face. After this dries, apply moisturizer. Apply moisturizer after you wash your face at night as well.
- Floss then brush your teeth. Be sure to brush the roof of your mouth, gums, and tongue. Brush them at night as well.
- Use gold bond to powder your balls & ass to reduce sweat and odor.
- I recommend using cologne. Spray once on your chest for going to class or work. Spray once on each side of neck when going out. For more info, check out Jeremy Fragrance on Youtube.
- Bonus tip: sprinkle gold bond or baby powder into shoes to keep them smelling decent.
Weekly
- Cut your nails. Use a nail file after to smooth them out. DO NOT BITE YOUR NAILS.
- Use a nose trimmer for your nose hair.
- Get a pair of tweezers & pluck out the hairs in between your eyebrows. DO NOT USE A TRIMMER FOR THIS. When the hair grows back, you'll look like a neanderthal.
- For facial hair, i prefer to have scruff/a short beard. So i trim mine 1-2 times a week. If you prefer to be clean shaven, simply add it to your daily routine.
- I also wash my sheets on Sunday. This typically prevents "guests" from discovering each other. Side note: watch out for hair ties, jewelry, nails, hair or any other stuff girls leave in your bed after a "sleepover". This will avoid it being brought up by other girls. Also, having clean sheets is good for your skin.
Monthly
- Get your haircut. I recommend short on sides/fade & medium length on top. Typical fuck boy haircut. Look up a cool haircut & show it to your barber/stylist.
- I trim my pubes & underarms 1-2 times a month. Occasionally I'll trim up my stomach & chest hair. If your body hair has you looking like Chewbacca, you'll have more work to do.

It looks like eczema to me. I highly recommend CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (not lotion, cream). The link is just for reference, you can probably find it on sale somewhere if you look. It was a game changer for my eczema. You do have to use it daily and consistently though (even after the visible eczema is gone).
As always, I recommend seeing a dermatologist, but I know that's difficult right now because COVID.

Hi there! And welcome :) this lotion is generally recommended, feels amazing, and won’t break the bank. They sell it with a pump so it is more sanitary, which I would also recommend for your face. I am currently using it, and while it may feel heavy at first, it soaks in quick and is non-greasy. Best of luck!

Not OP, but I was having a lot of flakiness as well. I'm still working on resolving hyperpigmentation, but I noticed a huge improvement in flakiness levels and have way more hydrated skin after starting to use ceraVe moisturizing cream and ceraVe PM facial moisturizing lotion.
After I cleanse, I don't dry my skin completely and slather on a good amount of the moisturizing cream. I let that sink in about 5 mins and then do a thick layer of the PM lotion. The PM lotion is a thick consistency so it's almost like using a mask and I feel like it really helps to plump my skin and to keep my skin's moisture locked in more. For any breakouts, I top with some vaseline.

Hey! Just wanted to let you know that Automod has removed your comment because it contains an Amazon referral link, which we don't allow in the sub.
Could you please edit the URL so that everything from (and including) "tag=" is removed? That way, the product page will still be visible - but no one can make a profit from the link. Here's the referral-free link for an easy copy & paste: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TTD9BRC/

I absolutely agree. Even after using Tretinoin, which is incredibly drying to the face, whenever I follow up with the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, I get minimal to no cracking or dry skin. I love this product👍

Hey guys, I have a question (and apologies if it's in the FAQ, but I didn't see it)-- do any of you use the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream on your faces? I see people say they do, but I am wondering how it has worked, and how it's different from their formulas that are specifically made for the face. Thank you!

Which CeraVe lotion specifically? A link would be helpful. I say this because this one (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TTD9BRC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ZLlnFb18SQQWE) makes my face incredibly oily later in the day. Like grease dripping off my face oily.
By ceraVe bp wash I assume you mean benzoyl peroxide wash? Benzoyl peroxide is extremely irritating to many peoples skin. Your problem seems to be over exfoliation causing extreme dryness and extreme sebum production.
I recommend using the hydrating cleanser at night, and the salicylic acid twice a week. Cut out the benzoyl peroxide completely and see how that works. Use a lighter moisturizer like the CeraVe PM after. Don’t forget sunscreen in the AM.
Edit: the linked moisturizer also is known to cause breakouts

Heyho, have I got a subreddit for you! /r/skincareaddiction
Seriously, make a post, ask and ye shall receive. Now, as far as my own advice:
This will help. Be generous with it, face and hands, morning, after shower, and at night. It might cause a flair up on ache if you struggle with that, but it will keep the dry away.

I'm in the U.S. and can confirm that CeraVe, available at Walmart and Amazon, has a similar active ingredient list, and it's quite effective on my Old Man Hands™
The product from Walmart is the one I use and it's pretty effective.
For extreme measures, seek out some urea cream 40%. Small amount of lotion. Rub into affected area, will feel like Elmer's glue. Once dry, put a drop off water in your hand and rub in.
Water trick can be done repeatedly between applications.

I like glycolic acid for a gentle exfoliant. Copied from another response: The Ordinary and Pixi make my two favorite toning products with glycolic acid, which I soak onto a cotton pad and rub into my skin about 2 times a way. An 8OZ container will last for a long time, so for the best budget pick on Amazon I'd try this Mario Badescu one!
I'd start with once a week for the most gentle way of using it. You want to apply with soft cotton pads in small circular motions, and you don't need to apply much pressure. Follow up with moisturizer, since your skin will be super ready to soak up anything after using an AHA toner!
For aging skin and moisture, you can't go wrong with simple ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides. A great one to try that is well loved is CeraVe's moisturizing cream. I've used this when I run out of fancier stuff and it's been nice to my skin and I love the price.
Fine lines in general can be reduced in appearance by making sure your skin is always plump and well hydrated, so doubling up with a serum on your skin before a heavier cream is a great idea as well. Hope that helps!

If you have sensitive skin, it's best to avoid using wipes because they tend to be abrasive to the skin. I would also avoid items with fragrances since they can also be sensitizing.
Unfortunately CeraVe isn't cruelty-free nor vegan, but for your condition, I'd recommend trying the CeraVe Salicylic Acid Cleanser and using their moisturizing cream. CeraVe is highly recommended here because it's very affordable and works really well.
As for serums, I'd recommend The Ordinary's Niacinamide+Zinc serum and their Azelaic acid suspension to help with reducing blemishes. Fortunately, the Ordinary is cruelty-free and vegan!
None of these products have sulfates and dyes too.
Unfortunately, finding effective and affordable products that are cruelty-free, vegan, sulfate-free, etc. is pretty hard in the skincare industry, but I hope this is a good starting point.

Is there a big difference betwen the Cerave Moisturizing Cream and the Cerave SA Lotion? They seem to have the same essential ingredients and are designed for the same purpose, and both seem pretty well received on this sub. Not sure if I'm missing something before I just commit to the cheaper option.

I have the driest skin and live in a very dry climate so I always thought I would NEVER get that dewy look as much as I coveted it! But then I discovered the right moisturizer and sunscreen for me and now I don’t really wear highlighter anymore because my face just naturally glows!
If you have really dry and sensitive skin here are the face products I use! CeraVe is a drugstore product so it’s cheap and their night moisturizer lasts me literal months with me putting ungodly amounts on every night - there is so much product in the tub.
AM: Sunscreen + Moisture: CeraVe Sunscreen + Moisturizer
PM: (Literally just pile this in your face) CeraVe Moisturizer
Foundation: (I use just a tiny amount of this everyday, SUPER buildable up to very full coverage and makes your skin glow even more.) Physicians Formula Foundation Skin Elixir
I never had compliments on my skin before starting this lineup, now I get a ton of comments on how healthy and dewy it looks! The heavy moisturizer at night is definitely the key for me and the other two products just really amplify how happy and hydrated the skin is!

Do this and your itching will be gone in a week. Continue to do it and it’ll stay gone:
Take a hot bath with 4-6 cups of Ancient Minerals (not epsom salt) for at least 1/2 hour 2-3 times a week.

Followed by CeraVe cream.

Also add magnesium glycinate supplement morning and night.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058HWV9S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_uQ.pFbC0HA10W
Plus vitamin D3 10,000 IU every morning (2 5,000 IU) for a week, then reduce to one 5,000 IU daily. During winter you may have to go back up to higher dose)

Edit: if you do not have a tub, soak your feet, then use a wash cloth to sponge that water over your body in the shower. Don’t rinse.

Hi!
Newbie here, like many others in lieu of the quarantine I've been getting myself into the topic of skincare which I had zero clues before, and after reading the sidebar, and getting a bit of an idea, I was hoping for a few clarifications if possible.
My skin type, while I'm not 100% sure, I think is mixed, it can feel oily in my nose and forehead, but not too much.
I'm mostly looking general advice as a new person getting into this, I would like to prevent aging and general care of my skin. I have lots of black spots in my nose, and it can be a bit oily. I don’t have much problem with acne beside the occasional pimple, I do have a small black mark of a scar of a pimple.
- Current Routine/Products I am Using
AM
- I cleanse my face with water.
- I'm using Paula's Choice BHA 2% for exfoliation.
- Cerave Moisturizing afterwards Since I'm not going out right now, I'm not using a sunscreen, but I'm aware that I should get one for the future.
PM
- Cleanse my face with Softymo Oil Cleanser
- I'm applying Florence Vitamin C
- And then I apply more Cerave.
So, as I said, right now I'm basically starting, just going through my second month or so, so I have some general questions and some more specific:
- Is there something crucial that I'm missing in my routine that I should get first and foremost?
- Should I get a foam cleanser on top of the oil one? Should I cleanse in the morning?
- I have lots of black dots in my nose, and some in my cheeks and reading I understood that Paula's choice BHA was useful for that, but got a bit confused whether I should use BHA or AHA, or if 2% is too low, should I keep going with this product?
- I don't fully comprehend what are toners and serums for, I've seen lots of people using The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, but could not fully grasp what it was exactly, or in what point of the routine should it be applied?
- I got this Vitamin C serum when I was starting to read, since I read Vitamin C was good for scars and even skin tone, but I just got the first one in the cover of Amazon, can you recommend me one? Is it okay to apply it at night or it should be part of the AM routine?
- Should I get an AHA exfoliant for my PM routine?
Not sure if I'm asking too many questions or if I’m writing too much, but anyway, thanks a lot for any help you can provide!

Hello, I am so sorry to hear!
It's my first time hearing about bleach baths- I heard great things of dead sea salt baths and oatmeal baths (organic oatmeal - grind - and mix in water).
You probably want to stay away from any skincare (even if they are made for eczema) with fragrance. Fragrances are never natural (unless made with essential oils) so it could impact/agitate the skin condition in the long run. I love the smell of Mustela but its heavily perfumed(?) so I prefer fragrance free products (which is not easy to find but they are available).
Look for key ingredients with ceramides (more than one type is better), calendula (antibacterial), cica, and essential oils.
I stay away from ointments that are made with petroleum-based ingredients as it only covers up the problem, not correct it... which is why i stopped using vaseline.
I find lot of products made in south korea works well.... have heard so many great stories about it.
These are the products I use and have helped a lot.
Westlake Dead Sea Salt for Kids => There are many out there but I liked this one the best
Botanical Therapy Calming Stick => It has the most calendula compared to other (Aztec culture uses calendula alot for heaing skin)
Botanical Therapy Wash => I love it because it doesn't sting
Cereve brand also works well but I tend to lean towards natural products instead of this one as they use synthetic ceramides instead of natural ceramides.
Atopalm Soothing Gel calms the skin.
Whatever you do, DO NOT USE Steroids. It may work like magic in the beginning but will not work in the long run and impairs growth.
Use humidifiers
Use lower temperature water (never hot as it will dry skin)
Moisturize right after shower/bath
Keep your bath/shower time short (no more than 10 min)
Good luck!

AM: stop washing your face in the shower, that water is too hot. Wash with cold water in the sink. Apply moisturizer. If you’ll be out in the sun then sunscreen on top.
When you get home from school: wash your face with an oil cleanser and lightly moisturize.
PM: right before bed, wash your face with a [gentle cleanser] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSSDEPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lMKrEbMEDWPQM), use some type toner or SA, and apply pimple pads wherever needed. Moisturize rest of face.
Make sure you change your sheets/pillowcases frequently and avoid touching your face. Ever.
These are all the things I desperately wish somebody told me to do in high school. Substitute the products as you wish but I figured cerave would be easy to find at target/amazon.

Is it in your red areas? That could be papules. Personally, the routine that works for me is:
Morning: no cleansing OR just cool water. Moisturizer/sunscreen: Purito Green Label Unscented sunscreen lotion OR Cerave AM moisturizer with sunscreen OR Cerave moisturizing cream and Australian Gold Botanical tinted mineral sunscreen if my skin is very dry
Night: Cleanser: Cerave Hydrating Cleanser (if you wear a lot of makeup or the Australian Gold sunscreen, you'll need to double cleanse - I use Unscented Pond's cold cream first and then the Cerave cleanser) and moisturizer: Cerave PM moisturizer or Cerave moisturizing cream if my skin is super dry.
Maybe something like that could work for you? Just make sure everything is fragrance free and super gentle!

Hey everyone! I'm looking to get some advice on what to add to my current routine to help my pretty decently big pores, hyperpigmentation, and a huge amount of blackhead on my nose w/ some on my upper cheeks. Here's my current routine w/ links. I'm still kind of new to skincare. Any advice is greatly is appreciated!
EDIT: I forgot to add, my skin type is somewhat of a combination but its more on the oily side.
- AM:
- Low Ph Good Morning Gel Cleanser by COSRX
- Stridex, Single-Step Acne Control (BHA): 2% salicylic acid
- Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% by The Ordinary
- HADALABO Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist (toner/moisturizer): hyaluronic-acid
- CeraVe Moisturizing Cream for Normal to Dry Skin
- KAO NIVEA SUN Protect Super Water Gel SPF 50 PA+++ (sun screeen)
- PM:
- (Going to add soon) iUNIK Calendula Complete Deep Cleansing Oil
- Low Ph Good Morning Gel Cleanser by COSRX

- HADALABO Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist (toner/moisturizer): hyaluronic-acid

Hello there, there's a product I see advertised heavily called Prosoria. I've tried it myself and rather enjoyed it, but I just can't back the price point on this product. 90$ for a month supply is just way too pricey. I've been able to find MUCH less pricier faves that I regularly stock up on (hopefully all the links work):
SA creams/washes:
Moisturizers:
- Cerave Moisturizing Cream
- Walgreens Advanced Moisturizing Cream (Cerave Dupe)
- Aveeno Skin Relief Intense Moisture Repair Cream
- Aveeno Eczema Therapy Itch Relief Balm
- Neutrogena Hydro Boost Body Gel Cream
- Hyaluronic Acid: Very effective at holding onto water. However, it's really only meant to be used as a humectant only. If used alone, may dry out your skin. I suggest applying this as a base layer and then applying another moisturizer on top. Oily skin types may get away with using alone.
- Curel Hydra Therapy Instant Moisturizer
- Solimo Eczema Soothing Moisturizing Cream
Body Washes:
- Aveeno Skin Relief Fragrance-Free Body Wash
- Solimo Skin Calming Body Wash w/ Colloidal Oatmeal
- Cerave Hydrating Cleanser Bar
- Cetaphil Ultra Gentle Body Wash (Fragrance Free)
Sunscreen: A MUST when applying most topicals for treating psoriasis (including SA, coal tar, topical steroids, etc.)
- Sensitive Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50
- Leaves a white cast as it is mineral-based, but very tolerable and highly effective
- Banana Boat Simply Protect for Sensitive Skin
- Doesn't leave a white cast, chemical filters degrade with sun exposure over time

I've got sensitive combo skin and mild rosacea. I'm exhausted and overwhelmed by sunscreen.
My routine:
Morning:
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water with cotton pad.
Night:
Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser
Curology
CeraVe AM makes my skin much more oily than using the Moisturizing Cream instead. I've tried Vanicream Sunscreen, which made my skin even more oily than CeraVe AM and greasy and sticky and my skin started stinging in sunlight and I'm pretty sure it damaged my moisture barrier. I've tried Blue Lizard Sensitive, but it too was greasy and made my skin oily.
I've spent hours upon hours trying to find a suncreen my skin actually likes, but am totally paralyzed by the number of choices, ingredients, online feedback, arguments over what does or doesn't provide enough protection, and what ingredients are and aren't safe.
My wishlist is ridiculous and my skin is dreading it:
Blue Lizard Sensitive Face Mineral
ROHTO Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch
Nivea Super Sun Protect Water Gel
Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily
Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish Sun Milk
I have no idea how to decide between them. But I would like to not destroy my skin. I would almost rather give up.
