Hygiene & Grooming
Hey y'all, these are some tips/routines that I've refined over the years. Many guys think they're ugly, when they really just have shitty hygiene, fashion, and fitness. Nailing your hygiene & grooming can EASILY take you up a point or 2 on the 10 scale. This may seem like a lot/obnoxious/gay/metrosexual, but it will make you more attractive. After a few days, it'll turn into a smooth and efficient routine. Good luck boys. Feel free to private message me for specific advice.
Daily
Shower
- Use lukewarm water. Hot ass water is bad for your skin.
- Shampoo your hair 2-3 times a week. Use conditioner on the other days.
- Use a foaming facial cleanser (here or here) on your face. Use this at night as well. Use an exfoliating scrub 2 times a week to remove dead skin cells.
- I recommend using a loofah and body wash, but a bar of soap is fine. Wash your entire body. Especially your shoulders, chest, underarms, groin, ass, and feet.
Post Shower
- Once out of the shower, apply antiperspirant deodorant & use a Q-tip on your ears.
- Do your hair. Using a blow dryer & hair product will add to the sexy factor.
- Put some toner on a cotton ball & apply it to your face. After this dries, apply moisturizer. Apply moisturizer after you wash your face at night as well.
- Floss then brush your teeth. Be sure to brush the roof of your mouth, gums, and tongue. Brush them at night as well.
- Use gold bond to powder your balls & ass to reduce sweat and odor.
- I recommend using cologne. Spray once on your chest for going to class or work. Spray once on each side of neck when going out. For more info, check out Jeremy Fragrance on Youtube.
- Bonus tip: sprinkle gold bond or baby powder into shoes to keep them smelling decent.
Weekly
- Cut your nails. Use a nail file after to smooth them out. DO NOT BITE YOUR NAILS.
- Use a nose trimmer for your nose hair.
- Get a pair of tweezers & pluck out the hairs in between your eyebrows. DO NOT USE A TRIMMER FOR THIS. When the hair grows back, you'll look like a neanderthal.
- For facial hair, i prefer to have scruff/a short beard. So i trim mine 1-2 times a week. If you prefer to be clean shaven, simply add it to your daily routine.
- I also wash my sheets on Sunday. This typically prevents "guests" from discovering each other. Side note: watch out for hair ties, jewelry, nails, hair or any other stuff girls leave in your bed after a "sleepover". This will avoid it being brought up by other girls. Also, having clean sheets is good for your skin.
Monthly
- Get your haircut. I recommend short on sides/fade & medium length on top. Typical fuck boy haircut. Look up a cool haircut & show it to your barber/stylist.
- I trim my pubes & underarms 1-2 times a month. Occasionally I'll trim up my stomach & chest hair. If your body hair has you looking like Chewbacca, you'll have more work to do.

I now swear by CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser - and my skin sounds EXACTLY like yours. Every cleanser has seemed to be at least ever so slightly drying after using it. But with this, it leaves my cleans my skin actually FEELING hydrated yet it cleans sooo well, it's sooo refreshing & gentle.
I think the CeraVe cleanser with salicylic acid is too drying honestly, esp if you're using other acne-fighting products, adding that into your routine is just a recipe for more dryness. This hydrating cleanser has been a huge part of my newly almost-always clear skin ever since I switched to it a few months ago, I see/feel a HUGE positive difference. The thing I figured out about my acne prone skin and why my routines weren't working before is that I actually needed more moisture, I didn't need an acne fighting cleanser, plus an acne-fighting toner, plus a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment cream - it was making it so much worse, but I thought 'hey the more acne-fighting stuff the better, right?' Nah. I'm so glad I'm 30 and now have finally learned more haha.
Also AMAZING quantity in the bottle for the affordable price!

^I noticed that in that link it says something about "fragrance"? But rest assured it is fragrance free and free of all of the other skin no-no's

I just started a routine today actually in hopes of fixing it.
Using these daily: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MSSDEPK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

idk if I'm missing anything or if I should add in an extra moisturizer? I'm also using a special moisturizer that's supposed to help my hands (on my hands) but hasn't done much yet. :(

Oh. My. God. Do NOT put apple cider vinegar on your face! ACV has a pH of 2-3, which puts it at the extreme end of tolerable acids. Second, using a Vitamin C product 2x a day along with ACV is a great way to absolutely destroy your skin barrier. I'm not surprised that after 2 years your skin is finally having an allergic reaction to these products and/or serious damage to your moisture barrier.
Your number one priority is to let your skin recover. I'd suggest using a very gentle cleanser, specifically CeraVe or the cult favorite Vanicream. A moisture barrier repairing cream would also be helpful such as Zeroid or Atopalm. I'd mix that with a few drops of squalane oil versus anything with rose in it (which, can also be sensitizing for some people). And, that's it.
Speaking to a dermatologist is also critical because you are presenting with signs of rosacea, which requires the evaluation of a trained professional versus skin enthusiasts like us on Reddit.
Finally, you need to give it several weeks of ONLY doing a very gentle, bland routine. You have exfoliated the every loving shit out of your face. More is not better when it comes to skincare. I'd keep that in the back of your mind if you find yourself thinking "nothing is happening, it's only been 2 weeks." Repairing your skin will take 2-3 skin cycles of roughly 30 days.

Can i use a moisturizer for normal/dry skin with my dry skin or should i return it? Someone bought it for me when i asked that person, but they didn't notice that detail. It's the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser (https://www.amazon.com/-/es/Limpiador-facial-hidratante-CeraVe-onzas/dp/B01MSSDEPK)now that i read it, does it work as a cleanser too? Does it mean i should only use it once a day? Also, can i use dove beauty cream bar (i think it's the normal dove bar) as a cleanser or is it too soft? Some article in the wiki recommended it, but i'm not sure if it's good enough. i have used it for my face before.

That’s right, HPR is still considered a drug in canada. No worries, go for the retinol 0.2% and use it only twice a week to start. Dw, about the Azeliac acid- it’s non essential.
My favorite hydrating cleansers are: Naturopathica Aloe cleanser
CeraVe Hydrating Face Wash | 16 Ounce | Daily Facial Cleanser for Dry Skin | Fragrance-Free
Yes! That is a really good basic moisturizer. Personally i like to use the squalane oil too to really make sure my skin is protected and super soft. It’s a cheap pick up and squalane has a TON of anti acne benefits.

People develop skin care routines usually out of need and desperation so you're lucky to have skin that you don't need to worry about. I get the impression you are looking for a skin care routine as an act of general self care and not because you're struggling with something like blackheads or acne.
If you have no specific issues you want to diligently address (acne, pores, redness, uneven skin tone, dryness, oily, scar etc) then you're good to just to use a cleanser and a moisturizer. You would use them in the morning and before bed. I suppose would also get downvoted if I didn't also recommend a sunscreen too (or SPF moisturizer).
For a cleanser, I would suggest the CeraVe one. <$15. Bottle has poor sex appeal but it's a good place to start.
I would also recommend to start with using a CeraVe face moisturizer with SPF but this subreddit has compiled a great list of suggestions
If your skin has a negative reaction to the products after a bit of use (breaks out, gets dry, etc) then you should switch products.
All that other stuff like toner, night cream, eye cream, serums, peels and all those intimidating chemicals products are not mandatory, especially if you're not chacing specific results or needs. People seek out, research and purchase these products to target issues they have with their skin (things like pimples but also abstract wishes like to have "glowing skin").
If you are trying to target problems or striving for a type of look then do research on Google and on this sub for suggestions of what products could work. Introduce new products one at a time and make sure your routine makes sense for your life (using 4-5 products every morning and night isn't practical for some people).
Tl;dr wash your face and use face cream. If you're happy with your skin then that's enough routine.

Soap can be really, really hard on your skin. Its pH is way off from what your skin barrier needs. Instead, I would recommend something simple and gentle (like Vanicream or Cerave). I wouldn't use soap at all, but I definitely wouldn't wash my face with soap and then use a cleanser too. That's redundant and could be aggravating your skin further.
I too use an electric razor and sometimes still get ingrown hairs. It's definitely better than disposable razors, but you're not 100% in the clear.
Here are simple moisturizers I like:
- Cerave PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion
- Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion (such a good value!)
- Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer
Sunscreens I used when I was younger, oilier and had more acne:
- Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Absorbing Moisturizer SPF 30
- Neutrogena Clear Face SPF 30
- La Roche-Posay Anthelios Clear Skin SPF 60
Do you prefer mineral sunscreens over chemical? (i.e., if you used chemical sunscreens when camping, you may want to steer toward mineral instead). If so, I'd recommend looking into the brands COTZ, EltaMD, or Australian Gold.

My routine involves a comprehensive healthcare regimen that's integrated into my day.

First and foremost. I'm 5'10 and try to keep my weight between 130-135 lbs just for my health. In this routine is a strict diet and exercise regimen combined with a weekly 3-hour cognitive behavioral health audiobook/bibliotherapy for "tune-ups" to my mental health. Because poor physical health will ruin your skin, and poor mental health will stress you out, and ruin your skin.

Basically. I used a protein calculator online (this one's free: https://www.calculator.net/protein-calculator.html ) to determine that I should be eating 60 grams of protein / day AT LEAST. So I make sure I eat a diet full of beans and supplement with protein shakes. I also take a multivitamin and drink tons of water and shore up any electrolytes I may be missing with zero-sugar sports drinks.

I meditate daily for 40 minutes: 20 minutes when I wake up, 20 minutes right before bed. I do guided meditation and focus on body scans sometimes. I also stretch, practice yoga poses which help my posture and reduce likelihood of lower back pain so there's that.

The actual beauty routine:
- Cerave Hydrating facial cleanser (this is the one, just so you know what it looks like. I think I ordered it from Target. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MSSDEPK/ref=pe_2640190_232586610_pd_te_s_rtpb_ti/131-7779785-6308842?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01MSSDEPK&pd_rd_r=00FQVM73YQNERTN0A0WJ&pd_rd_w=sVwLa&pd_rd_wg=O7D3i

- Palmer's Cocoa butter with vitamin E - here's what that looks like. https://www.target.com/p/palmer-s-cocoa-butter-formula-moisturizing-lotion-3-5oz/-/A-13528980?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&fndsrc=tgtao&CPNG=PLA_Beauty%2BPersonal+Care%2BShopping&adgroup=SC_Health%2BBeauty&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=c&location=9051526&ds_rl=1246978&ds_rl=1248099&gclid=Cj0KCQjwk8b7BRCaARIsAARRTL6ioYK9uhTrV5beUx8eJl_5Pmle8d468bl0-mIzC7tqiNUoeRMtAW0aApMGEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

unfortunately the cocoa butter will break you out occasionally, so I try to use it as much as I can on my face, but when I have pimples or acne, I use the Aveeno stress relief lotion (purple bottle) instead. It clears up my acne in about a day and I use that when I can't use the cocoa butter.

I ALWAYS use SPF 50+ sunscreens with both UVA/UVB protection, and I always check to make sure they have that skin cancer foundation seal on them before I buy them. I've used all brands of sunscreens and I always take the time to reapply it. I've been doing this religiously since I was 14 so my skin is in pretty great shape (I'm in my late 30s now). I also wear UVA/UVB blocking sunglasses while I'm out, wear a hat, and have my car windows tinted to block out as much UVA/UVB as possible to protect my skin. These days the mask protects skin from radiation to some extent even more since I usually wear my mask with sunglasses and a hat. I avoid the sun like the plague. I'm always checking the UV index in my area and only leave my house when the UV index is 1 or 0 (WITH sunscreen and sunglasses/hat/tinted car), unless its an emergency. I check my phone constantly to see when the sun sets and exercise after it does, WITH sunscreen on. Any business I do during the day is emergencies only (e.g. doc appointments, dentist appointments) and then I try to schedule these during rainy days or times where the clouds are blocking as much sunlight as possible.

For my teeth, I brush twice a day and use mouthwash with peroxide in it for whitening. I make SURE to go to the dentist twice a year and never miss an appointment. For my eyes, I get my eye glasses prescriptions updated every 6 months. These are little things that greatly impact your quality of life. I will admit right here, right now, that I suck at flossing. It's the one bridge I'll die on, but my teeth are white, pretty, and in great health. I also make sure to brush my gums, inner-sides of my cheeks, and roof of my mouth.

I try to make sure I manage and control stress as much as possible. I try to squeeze in fun and work my cognitive behavioral therapy techniques extra hard when I know I've got a harder workload/project coming up and do my best to take breaks and minimize frustration and anger. These things stress you out. It all adds up.

I had a huge breakthrough in my Cognitive Behavioral Therapy a few months ago where I identified my major stressors and reddit was a major one for me. Because I'm obsessed with relationships (it's a passion of mine), I lurk on all the dating, relationship, heartbreak, marriage, divorce, deadbedroom, sex-worker, and other types of relationship-centered subs, I encounter TONS AND TONS of incel content and exposure, specifically, to this content stresses me out greatly, so I've cut back my amount of time on reddit. I limit myself to low-stress activities on my reddit alts where I'm not likely to run into any incels and it's helped me significantly reduce my stress levels to a measurable degree. My resting heart rate went from 79 beats per minute, to about 64 bpm! Just from me minimizing reddit time on my accounts which are likely to encounter incel content.

I'm not perfect and I build in "cheat days" into all my routines, except for the sunscreens. The only "cheat days" for that are when I'm in a hospital being treated for something, and even then, I ask family and friends to bring me my beauty bags lol and I apply that shit right away.

With my diet, specifically, I'll allow myself to lose weight, and then reward that by eating whatever I want until it's gained back, then tapering off and slowly getting back to the starting weight. For example, I'm now 126.5 lbs, and I've allowed myself to drop to this weight because I'm taking some vacation time this week and I'm going TO EAT LIKE A PIG. I've done this before, and usually by the time I'm back, I'm sitting at about 136 lbs, ad I just work myself down to 130 through my usual diet and exercise.

Obviously, I'm talking to you on my main stressor reddit account: _HEDONISM_BOT. Lol. I have cheat days on this too. I'm on vacation! I'm allowed to have some eustress, and it's only a week, I'll recover :)

This is the most important part of my routine: If I fuck it up one day, or miss a step. I don't beat myself over it. I simply try again the next day. If I fall off the wagon, I try to NOT get too upset over it. There's always tomorrow. You can ALWAYS start over again from fresh, tomorrow. This mindset has been tremendously helpful in me sticking to this routine, knowing I can screw up and still forgive myself for whatever errors I've done that day. With time, and experience and increasing levels of discipline, I've grown to make less and less mistakes, and the "cheat days" were part of the strategy which helped me stick to this routine. If I make time for cheating, then I won't have to worry during non-cheat periods, because cheat period opportunities are always coming up. I can "hold" the cheating off to a cheat day, usually. lol

Hey there! My favorite cleansers are Paula's choice, they are free of fragance and stripping stuff. I myself have oily skin but people with dry really like their optimal results hydrating cleanser or their hydratimg gel-to-cream cleanser. Another one that is very good for dry skin is the cerave hydrating face wash , but I didn't find it as cleansing, especially if you do only one cleanse and wear makeup/sunscreen. Good luck!

Hello! My teen son just started last week, and I had the same questions. His derm recommended Cerave facial cleanser and Cerave daily moisturizing lotion. I also got him the Cerave 30 spf for day.
Someone on here recommended this lip treatment, as well as nasal spray. I have received so much helpful advice on this subreddit.

Buy and use these products every day:
- A high spf but non-greasy sunscreen [rec]
- A face soap [rec]
- A face lotion [rec]
- A nice-smelling shampoo-conditioner set that doesn't give you dandruff [rec]
- Electric toothbrush [rec]
- antiperspirant deodarant [rec]
- facial razor
Workout daily. Eat nutritious vegetables every meal. Don't overeat. Wash your hands. Slim cut pants that fit your waist.
That's it. Once you start doing it you'll notice how many people who don't. They hit the wall. And if you meet someone who hit the wall and claims they do all of this daily, they're lying.

I tried something that would last you 2-3 months for $30. Sunscreens would be like $10 per month if you would like to add.
Salicylic acid - Stridex
Lotion - CeraVe
Sunscreen - There’s many discussions here so you can search on your own. Just avoid purito since their actual spf is 20-30. Honestly it is not bad as a daily sunscreen for a person that isn’t on tret/accutane.
The ordinary has good stuff, but their salicylic acid products are always out of stock and free shipping minumum is $25.

I'm a 31-year old male with the same kind of skin. This is the routine I started with and works, thanks to this subreddit.
AM: Cleansing with Cerave in the shower. Afterwards I tone with Glycolic Acid.
I moisturize with Cerave (one that has both Hyaluronic Acid and niacinamide), layer my vitamin C over that and finish with sunscreen that contains SPF 50
PM: Cleansing with Cerave in the shower. Afterwards I tone with Glycolic Acid.
I moisturize with Cerave (one that has both Hyaluronic Acid and niacinamide) and finish with a Retinoid crème.

I’m so glad I can rescue you from this skincare mistake. Coconut oil is comedogenic — that means it clogs your pores. On the skin, it does not have an antibacterial effect. It doesn’t have the components in it that your skin needs to serve as a proper moisturizer. Depending on your current skincare routine, I’d be happy to recommend products for you. But if you have dry skin and no other concerns, this would be my first thought as to a skincare routine you’d benefit from:
Morning - rinse skin with skin-temperature water
Then use some type of Korean hydrating toner or essence, this one is up to you, just make sure it’s fragrance-free and doesn’t have alcohol or witch hazel. Watch out for hidden fragrances! Use a website like https://incidecoder.com/ to check. Sometimes they’re wrong though. Check reviews for someone saying it “smells amazing”.
Apply a hydrating serum, such as Purito Centella Unscented Serum, which will help with your skin’s long term health. (P.S. it’s usually on amazon, but I can’t find it there at the moment, so that one’s a YesStyle link.)
Then apply a dry skin moisturizer - again, you can pick your own, but you can also go with good old cerave cream. It is important that it has ceramides, they make a huge difference long-term. Make sure it’s fragrance free.
Lastly, and this is utterly crucial, you MUST apply sunscreen every day. And apply it generously. Reapply often if you can. This will help with basically everything about your skin, but takes time to show it. Purito Centella Green Level Unscented Sun is the best sunscreen I’ve ever tried, and many in this subreddit, including me, will tell you it’s the best sunscreen in the world. If you’ve never used Korean sunscreen, this one will blow you away with how amazing it is.
Night: Use a cleansing oil, like this one.
Wet the oil with water so it turns white, and gently massage it for a moment before rinsing it away, as it takes any makeup, sunscreen, and oil-based dirt off your face super gently.
Then a gentle cleanser to wet skin, like cerave hydrating cleanser.
Then it’s the same as the morning routine, except for the sunscreen.
There is a lot of wiggle room in this, but your skincare routine should look something like this, even if the products aren’t the same. Your skin will thank you.

AM: stop washing your face in the shower, that water is too hot. Wash with cold water in the sink. Apply moisturizer. If you’ll be out in the sun then sunscreen on top.
When you get home from school: wash your face with an oil cleanser and lightly moisturize.
PM: right before bed, wash your face with a [gentle cleanser] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSSDEPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lMKrEbMEDWPQM), use some type toner or SA, and apply pimple pads wherever needed. Moisturize rest of face.
Make sure you change your sheets/pillowcases frequently and avoid touching your face. Ever.
These are all the things I desperately wish somebody told me to do in high school. Substitute the products as you wish but I figured cerave would be easy to find at target/amazon.

I’ve never really taken care of my face but it’s my New Years resolution. I did some research and here’s what I have so far for a face routine:

Beta Salic 2.0 Moisturizer (https://www.amazon.com/Chica-Chico-Beta-salic-Miracle-Flawless/dp/B01NAHKV5I)
about me: I (23F) am currently just washing with an exfoliating face wash and not using moisturizer (but I’m changing that!) because the one I have makes my face really oily. I think I have combination skin but I’m not sure, maybe on the oily side? I live in Florida so it’s really humid/hot. I don’t really wear make up at all, maybe once every 3 months. I break out some and I have some wrinkles and some redness, which I’m hoping the routine will help with. I don’t have a lot of money so I definitely can’t spend more than like 20 on one product
I guess I’m asking if these products should go well together, if I put something on there that shouldn’t be, or if I’m missing a step or product. I’m especially curious about the antioxidant serum because how do all of those things work in that bottle?!
Thank you for reading and I hope I don’t sound too dumb for not knowing about this lol

You can try a peel. Either get one at a derm (expensive if your insurance doesn't cover and a lot of them won't cover purely cosmetic stuff and acne if you're not really young anymore but they're super effective) or buy one on Amazon. Also exfoliate 2-4 times a week and moisturize daily.
My daily moisturizer has good ingredients regardless of your age and is good enough for most people. Not amazing but much cheaper than alternatives and it's got all of the ingredients you'd want in one single product rather than buying 3-4.
Face scrub for blackheads and exfoliation Important too, you have to do this a few times a week to reveal new skin and clear pores
Extra retinol stuff to help scars and damage If your skin is really damaged you can try this but it's not necessary
My favorite face wash I think this is a really good every day face wash. Not acne specialized but my skin did improve using this. Moisturizes and cleans.
Face mask to use once or twice a week Optional too but could help. This one would still count towards the total times you exfoliate in a week though. Don't do it too much or you could irritate your skin.
Chemical peel starter strength Optional but if your skin is really bad you can start with this and work up to 70%. Experiment with this first though if you do. Really effective stuff but overkill for most
More heavy duty moisturizer If you have really dry or sensitive skin you can opt for this one instead of the L'Oreal

if you've been diagnosed with acne then i suggest beginning the journey of finding products that clear it up. What is your current skin care regime?
this is what id suggest:
in the evening:
wash your face with a cleanser. You can experiment ... i have liked a few cleansers. If you want something that sort of dries out your skin (in hopes it gets rid of acne) then id rec'd
https://www.cleanandclear.com/facial-cleansers/essentials-foaming-facial-cleanser - this can be found at most drug stores/grocery stores/pharmacies
if you want to wash your face with just a gentle cleanser that works to remove oil and dirt then i'd rec'd this one:
https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Hydrating-Facial-Cleanser-Fragrance/dp/B01MSSDEPK - this can also be found at most drug stores or grocery stores or pharmacies.

next you may want a toner. A toner preps the skin for whatever the heck you're going to be doing to it. I dont necessarily have a recommendation for this one... there are ones for acne skin but meh. They all sort of do the same thing. Find one you like. Or skip this step. Not everyone does it.
next id apply an acid. this is you're exfoliating step. Some people used to use face scrubs but in recent years its been more effective to remove dead skin cells with a chemical exfoliant. thus acids. Id rec'd this one.
And then finally you should find a moisturizer that works well for you.
In the morning id wash your face again. apply toner. apply sun screen.

Now thats the very basics. You can try niacinamide if you want too.

Hi all, I'm in desperate need of a reliable skincare routine and have really just been fumbling. For background, I'm 26/M with issues with extreme dryness / dehydration, especially around the eye area, but with some combination skin (oilness around nose) along with dark spots / discoloration around my eyes and really badly on my nose. I also have some fine lines around my eyes. I'm naturally a pretty olive complexion (half middle eastern half central american). My skin was never this bad up until I started working in an office with awful air quality and no sunlight. Five years later, here we are.
My routine is
AM:
Drunk Elephant protini polypeptide cream (I'm not really a fan of this one, but here I am)
PM:
CeraVe Hydrating Face Wash Daily Facial Cleanser for Dry Skin either in the shower or afterwards.
Thayer's Unscented Alcohol Free Witch Hazel Toner.
Manyo Factory Galactomy Niacin Essence 97% pure fermented galactomyces, 1.7 fl. oz
Drunk Elephant Shaba Complex Eye Cream
CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM Ultra Lightweight, Night Face Moisturizer
It probably doesn't seem like it but I really like natural products. I'm absolutely dumbfounded on how to improve the health and appearance of my skin though. I feel like my face is uncomfortable and dry, and completely discolored around the eye area no matter how hard I try! I could really use some help here 😓.
Thanks in advance!

Azelaic acid and niacinamide are easy to find over the counter. You have lots of options here, especially for the niacinamide!
A lot of people find the TO niacinamide irritating. The Inkey List Niacinamide serum is supposedly more gentle and hydrating (no zinc). The CeraVe PM moisturizer also has niacinamide in it.
I’m currently using and enjoying The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%, which is a heavier silicone-based cream best used at night right before or after moisturizer. Garden of Wisdom also has two formulations that are popular.
The SCA wiki has pages on these with links to more product recs — Azelaic acid // Niacinamide
Clindamycin is a prescription-only antibiotic, so no substitute for that. Are you using Curology to treat acne? If so, a benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid product might be an acceptable substitute.
For the Curology face wash, I’m not sure of the closest dupe, but something like the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser or La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser may be good gentle options to try.
I believe the Neutrogena Hydroboost for Extra Dry Skin is the closest dupe for the Curology moisturizer.
Gradually introduce any new products one-by-one every couple of weeks instead of starting them all at once.
What did you think of Curology as a service overall? I’ve been considering starting it in the fall as an easy way to begin tretinoin, as my insurance won’t cover it.

I feel ya lady. Buckle in.
After years of being a single mom and neglecting myself in every way (and also dealing with chronic pain from a genetic disease), I finally snapped and decided to fix things. For my skin, I worked hard trying a bunch of stuff, here’s what worked for me. I'm around the same age with a child, same skin description. Here’s what got my family saying I look years younger, well rested, glowing, etc. It’s intensive so I dunno if you’d have time/money for it all. I stalked r/skincareaddiction, read and researched more hours than I know. I ramped it up slowly, trying things and keeping what helped and returning what didn't. I expect the biggest gains can from the microneedling and collagen powder supplement, if you want to try those first.
Once a month: Microneedling. I have a Dr. Pen from Amazon and do it myself, but you can get this done professionally if you want. I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0822PJ8NS Use a lidocaine cream first so it won’t hurt https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DMP62H1 Follow with a recovery serum, I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079CNV3R8
Supplement with collagen powder, every day in a hot beverage like tea or coffee: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00XQ2XGAA Huge difference from this after two weeks. Seriously. Amazing.
Washing face: Cerave cleanser https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Hydrating-Facial-Cleanser-Fragrance/dp/B01MSSDEPK I use a silicon scrub during a shower or bath https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Scrubbers-Blackhead-Washing-Cleaning/dp/B0824222SS and for a quick wipe down before applying products midday (because retinol and vitamin c products shouldn't be mixed) I use https://www.amazon.com/Danielle-D8064-Reusable-Makeup-Removing-Cloths/dp/B01CRB3PLA with only warm water.
Morning: https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Post-Acne-Refining-Resurfacing-Brightening/dp/B07VWSN95S (make sure face is clean and DRY before applying, otherwise it stings). Let that dry, then followed by https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Facial-Moisturizing-Lotion-AM/dp/B00F97FHAW
Midday: Wash face, and apply https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Vitamin-Hyaluronic-Brightening-Fragrance/dp/B07PNCCLD2 followed again by spf moisturizer. (This is the part I the skin creams I would skip if you want to, it does seem to help, but not as much as the others)
Evening: Wash face, and apply Differin. It's primarily associated with helping acne, but also helps with wrinkles and fine lines: https://www.amazon.com/Differin-Adapalene-Treatment-60-day-supply/dp/B07HKVBRCF Follow with cerave nighttime moisturizer. https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Skin-Renewing-Night-Cream/dp/B00SNPCSUY I love this moisturizer. I'll use it during the day instead of the SPF one if I'm not going out in the sun.
Also, my lips used to flake during the winter, I fixed that with applying pure hyaluronic acid moisturizer three times a day, in two coats, when I do the other stuff. My lips have never been better. https://www.amazon.com/Hyaluronic-Acid-Serum-Moisturizer-ASTERWOOD/dp/B01I7BJD9C
So, with this over 2-3 months, I've cleared up all my adult acne I've been dealing with my entire life, reduced acne scars to barely visible, evened my skin tone, made my foreheard wrinkles basically disappear and look like I'm in my 20s again (if I had never had acne!). At least as far as my face is considered. It's kinda a miracle.
But don't forget diet and exercise and sleep to take care of yourself. If you don't get any exercise I recommend a Fitbit or apple watch and step tracking (you can set a lower goal that 10k steps, some studies say benefits start to max out at 7k). For diet, you probably already know, try not to eat junk or added sugars. Eat lots of fish and vegetables. And I recommend a longer period of fasting (like 72 hours) once or twice a year. But I'm not a doctor or anything, that's just what seems to be great for me.
I hope this helps someone else like it did me! My brother has been bugging me to write this down and "tell him my secrets" for awhile now so I can finally show him too. Ha.
