You right. This version is half the price. I got the other one because I thought the solar charging and atomic time were nifty.

Yeah and it only has 50 m water resistance. All new g shocks have 200m water resistance lol. I mean you can get the 5600e for 40 bucks and it's the same without solar or multiband. I dont get why this is such a big consideration. It's a 40-100 dollar item that will probably last the rest of your life. You probably spend more than that on gas in a couple weeks.

I have the first one, the world time. Its a great watch, stylish and practical. James Bond wore it.

Also try Casio G shock brand. Here's one https://www.amazon.com/Casio-G-shock-DW5600E-1V-Shock-Resistant/dp/B000GAYQKY/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=g+shock+watches+for+men&qid=1589575556&sr=8-10

G-Shocks are the gold standard for ultra-durable watches, but they're not exactly stylish. The smaller, lower-profile models are also among the cheapest: DW5600 and GWM5610. The DW5600 is your basic watch with a 2-year battery, while the GWM5610 has a solar-recharged battery that should last 10-15+ years given sufficient light. The GWM5610 is also atomic, which means that the time and date can be automatically set if she's in a supported area. She does need to set her timezone, though.

Something more fashionable, but much more expensive and less durable, would be an Apple Watch (requires an iPhone). The latest models have always-on displays, and a steel/sapphire model would be reasonably durable. She just shouldn't accidentally drop one onto a hard surface like a concrete floor. That could damage/destroy them (but this is true for most watches). G-Shocks, on the other hand, would laugh at her feeble attempts at damaging them.

Strap kit $75 from Ali Express.

How the hell are you coming up with $250? These aren't hard to come by and the mod is literally removing 4 screws.

Depends on your budget. I'd recommend a cheap G Shock if you're going to be rough with it. There are so many models. Features to consider:

  • shape: square (more like rectangular) or round
  • solar powered
  • multiband 6: automatic time sync
  • color

The watch will be cheaper without solar and multiband 6. I found those features useful so I paid for them.

My preference is for the square watches, so here are 2 examples:

Casio Men's G-Shock Quartz Watch with Resin Strap, Black, 20 (Model:/W5600E-1V) $45ish

Casio Men's G-Shock Quartz Watch with Resin Strap, Black, 20 (Model:/WM5610-1) $90ish, has solar and multiband 6.

I don’t know of any that look that similar. But, here are a few links for some functional, rugged, bang for the buck watches that may have some appeal to you based on certain similarities:

A respected g shock which looks rugged and militaryish, but not like the pic: https://www.amazon.com/Casio-G-shock-DW5600E-1V-Shock-Resistant/dp/B000GAYQKY/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=casio+digital+watch&qid=1582591604&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&sr=8-5

This looks good with the rubber straps, but if you throw a NATO strap like the one in the picture, you’ll have a rugged dive watch with 200m water resistance for 45-55 bucks if you add the extra strap: https://www.amazon.com/Casio-MDV106-1AV-Analog-Watch-Black/dp/B009KYJAJY/ref=mp_s_a_1_159?keywords=casio+digital+watch&qid=1582591812&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&sr=8-159

The Casio DW-5600E is a fantastic watch, retro styling, great Casio durability, and super light weight. Plus the price range is perfect to get beaten around at BMT

Allright, I don't think we need to overthink this then. $50, G Shock square DW5600E, done: https://www.amazon.com/Casio-G-shock-DW5600E-1V-Shock-Resistant/dp/B000GAYQKY/ref=sr_1_9

This is the classic for a reason. It'll stand up to a lot of abuse. Pretty much the only way to destroy it would be to take a hammer specifically to the face. And if you manage to do that, you're only out $50 to get a replacement. There's a ton of alternate colorways of the square for collectors because Casio can charge $200 for a $50 G-Shock by putting it out in some other color. I'm assuming that doesn't matter to you.

If you want to get a solar-powered one, just search for "G Shock Square Solar" and there should be one on Amazon for about double the price of the one above. Still a good deal.

G-shocks are pretty much your go to watches as they are waterproof and can withstand large amounts of abuse. That's why G-shocks are popular with militaries today. Regarding your question, I own the DW-5600 as it's super cheap, fits my smaller wrist, has all the functionalities you mentioned, and there is extensive mods available. There is a Solar version available at a price hike. My friend is training as an RN and his place mandates analog watches so he got this for $80 on the internet. Hope this helps.

Any watch is going to get a bit beat up if you're using it for those purposes, but they should cope pretty well.

Quartz will be more shock-proof than mechanical, but provided you don't drop the watch onto a hard surface, mechanical should hold up pretty well, too.

Here's a few suggestions:

A G-Shock is pretty much the toughest watch you can buy. You'll probably lose it before you break it. This model is also solar powered.

If you would rather an analogue option, the GA-2100 is popular.

You might also look at the Promaster Tough, for a solar-powered option with sapphire crystal and excellent water resistance.

Dive watches are available from many manufacturers, and are generally durable, highly water resistant and very legible. A great option for your use case. The one I've linked is mechanical, but there are plenty of quartz models around, too. Try to find one with a sapphire crystal if you think scratches on the glass would bother you.

This field/pilot watch is an affordable option with a sapphire crystal and screw-down crown, so you retain most of the good qualities of a dive watch in a bit of a sleeker package. You'll want to put it on a rubber or NATO strap for outdoor activities, though.

Casio makes a ton of resin watches that are light and compact but still tough.

One of my favorites is the W-800H, it has a nice sized display that shows lots of info at the same time (3-digit day, date, 4-digit year, relatively large digits. The light is great, it's water resistant to 100M (Most Casios are 30M, good for rain or washing hands; or 50M, which is only good for casual swimming). It uses real spring bars so strap changes are easy, a lot of cheaper watches use a pushpin that only lets you change the strap once or twice before it starts to wear out. The backlight is nice and bright. It has alarm and chronograph. You can mod it to enable the count down timer too. It's also under $15! Look:

https://www.amazon.com/Casio-Quartz-Resin-Sport-Watch/dp/B001AWZDA4

Other modestly-sized, somewhat-durable resin Casios are the W-740, an electro-luminescent backlit 100M watch; and the DW-290, an electro-luminescent backlit 200M watch:

https://www.amazon.com/Casio-Casual-Sports-watch-W7401V/dp/B000OEDPEU

https://www.amazon.com/Casio-DW290-1V-Classic-Sport-Watch/dp/B000GB1R8M

Watches like the recent W-737 and DW-291 seem to follow up on these two, but they're entering G-shock size territory. For that matter the popular AE-1000, AE-1200, AE-1300, and AE-1400 are on the larger side of plastic Casios. They're 45mm+ wide, larger than the DW-5600E G-Shock.

Speaking of which, you may want to consider the DW-5600E. It's the descendant of the original G-Shock (The DW-5000C), and it's a crazy good deal. $41.65 on Amazon today:

https://www.amazon.com/Casio-G-shock-DW5600E-1V-Shock-Resistant/dp/B000GAYQKY

The squares are popular for a reason, they're modestly sized (\~43mm) and fit well on most wrists. Honestly fits the "small and sturdy" requirement better than any other watch I can think of. If you're like me and put off by some of the huge G-Shocks out there, you may be surprised to see how comfortable the squares are.
