Sounds like the knob just needs a good cleaning... if you can, pull it off the front and spray it down pretty good with some electronics cleaner (something like this CRC 05103 QD Electronic Cleaner -11 Wt Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BXOGNI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5v.4EbACAA5KB) and work the knob back and forth. Let it dry for a couple minutes, then try it out.

I’ve used this stuff for old carts and inside controllers for cleaning-up and it’s worked darn well:

edit: Any brand electronic contact cleaner will do, not just that specific can.

So any electronic contact cleaner? And you mean take off the cover on the back of the guitar behind the volume knob and spray (liberally, lightly) the volume pot using the “straw” to get towards the front of the mechanism?
Sorry, never did this. Would this be good?:

Sounds like your joystick contacts are dirty. Remove the batteries and use electrical contact cleaner and just angle it into the side of the stick and spray some into it. Work the stick around for a minute, wipe off any excess/white residue, and then let it dry for about 10. I use this stuff. Be sure to use it in a well-ventilated area. Repeat if necessary.

Do this, but use eletrical contact cleaner instead. canned air can introduce tiny amounts of water into your controller, the cleaner won't.

You can try cleaning them out. Find a small needle and get as much of the paste out of the socket as you can. Then spray the processor with isopropyl alcohol and compressed air to clean pins. Or CRC 05103 QD Electronic Cleaner -11 Wt Oz

I used that one. Pull up the rubber around the joystick, spray some in, push down joystick and move it around. Seems to have fixed it for me. You're results may vary but for $5 it's with a shot.

Electronic parts cleaner, aka contact cleaner.. not "contacts" like for your eyes, no!
Electronic contact cleaner, sorry if that is confusing.
Edit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BXOGNI?tag=duckduckgo-osx-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1
you would usually just spray directly, maybe use a small soft bristle brush if necessary.

Give this a try - it’s electronic contact cleaner. I would do it over a basin or something to soak the runoff up. I don’t know if you’ll get it all out, but I used to be a house sound guy back in the day when everyone smoked and this helped get the smoke gunk off the gear.

If it works randomly it’s probably a loose connection or corrosion. Try disconnecting the harness and using an electrical connector cleaner like this one:

I'd recommend an electronic cleaner spray, something like this.

Alcohol is fine, just make sure dries completely before installing again. Contact cleaner like CRC contact/electronics cleaner is ideal and better if you think there's something in the socket itself. Shouldn't be necessary unless you see something obvious.
Or see if your friend will let you try his CPU in your board if he's afraid to put yours in his. That way you can at least get it running to ensure everything with the bios is correct. AMD will supposedly send you a temporary CPU as well but that would take awhile.

I don’t know if it is or isn’t, but after watching the car wizard (on YouTube) reccomend it I put CRC QD Electronic Cleaner on all my connections if I open them up.

If the write errors are occurring across all slots, you know the problem isn't at the drive/back-plane junction.
I'd next clean (maybe using CRC contact cleaner) and reseat the connection from the backplane to your motherboard.

Better than alcohol for most applications (dries almost instantaneously and less chance of damaging something):

And contact cleaning spray: https://www.amazon.com/CRC-05103-Electronic-Cleaner-11/dp/B000BXOGNI/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=contact+cleaner&qid=1591485764&s=automotive&sr=1-4
Use both in tandem to file away the corrosion and clean the connector. Also grab some dielectric grease to jam on the pins once all the corrsosion is gone to prevent any more from coming back. All should be available at local hardware or autoparts stores.

If you have basic soldering skills, just remove that cable from the motherboard and solder a new replacement power input jack.
That's what I did about a week ago and I couldn't be happier. 😊
This is what I used, aside from a soldering iron of course.

After you have the console open you can wash all the plastic parts with warm water, soap and a sponge. You can take it further by using hydrogen peroxide to take away all the bromine yellowing it has and make it look much much better. 👍👍👍
