There's a couple threads in this subreddit about this with a couple different pads. Here's one I have saved. I understand your problem and I kinda just got use to it but I do notice it once in awhile.

Brainwavz HM5 pads have really good reviews and are recommended by many people for the hyper x headsets. I’m still waiting for my pair to arrive because shipping takes forever.

These, much bigger earcups, much more isolation, much improved bass, much more comfort. Highly recommend.

Not the sheepskin, the PU leather.

I thought I wasn't going to be able to install them and got the original replacement pads from Vever (also on amazon) but they're just sitting in the bag the brainwavz came in. Also, the original ones started flaking the leather and weren't really usable.

If you need help with the installation just let me know and I'll see what I can do to help you out

Hi :) i bought this earpads https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MFDT894/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_lgeiEbSKWQAH2 they are much more comfortable for me and reduce the heat build up but one downside (if you care about it) is that they are bigger then the stock pads they still fit in the carrying pouch

I just bought these for my 4.50 BTNC. My ears are not that big but the Sennheiser stock pads hurts after 1 hour of use.

I read a lot about this replacement pads but the reviews says that the downside is the NC decreases a bit (but I don't think it's good enough).

They will arrive on Sunday.

There are plenty of earpads choices for the m40x, but note that the sound will usually change in some way (good or bad). If you like how they sound now, I would suggest looking for pleather earpads as its the same material as the stock pads. You can try something like this.

Rather a side grade. Depends on your preferences. If you are using stock M50X’s, I’d recommend investing in a new pair of ear pads though. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-Philips-Replacement-Earpads-Headphones/dp/B00MFDT894/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=earpads&qid=1590209829&sr=8-5

They use the same pads as the regular Arctis line, you can even get leather ones or third party ones that I used to use when I owned a steelseries headset.

These are a little big but they’re super comfortable. they have cloth ones as well.

Brainwavz leather pads: $21.99 now but I see them usually for $16 if you're willing to wait. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MFDT894

Quick edit: Hybrid pads if you don't like the feel of leather but want to keep the sound isolated. $24 right now but again, usually as low as $17. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZGGG3KY

I've used the m30x for a while and they are a really great entry closed back headphone. With some after market pads they are extremely comfortable and very durable. I've had mine for years with daily use in an office and the only wear is some cracking on the headbands leather.

Get them renewed on Amazon with some Brainwavz pads and you'll be set without breaking the bank.

Had the same exact problem. Spent an hour doing research and came up with these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MFDT894/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 as the winner. Best investment for the headset I could have made! Super comfortable, and actually helps eliminate outside noise more so than what they come with. Also boosts bass and widens the sound stage a bit IMO. All subjective of course.

Yeah they are not the most comfortable. However once you buy replacement ear pads on amazon, and headband, the comfort will improve dramatically.

Imo, the m40x is superior to the k361 purely due to having an exceptional build quality that will last you many many years.

They were a real pain in the a** to get on my pro x, but I managed it with the help of another 2 hands to hold down the parts that were already in. The stock ear cups were just too small, so hopefully this means I don't have to refund the headset now. Thanks a ton!

I'm in the US so these are the ones I ordered:

I was mistaken on the XL pads. Those are round. You want oval. I must have been thinking of my DT 770's.

Here's what you want. I've used all of these. Currently I'm back to some stock height Hyperx replicas from Aliexpress, mostly because I'm trying to reduce clamping pressure until I can repair the hinge properly.

Philips shp9500 and a cable boom pro mic 3.5 mm (in my opinion the cable boom pro microphone and cable quality is better than the V-Moda boom pro. I bought both) This is a set of open backed headphones meaning that you aren't getting sound isolation, and there will be sound leakage. For example, you're sitting on the couch with the headphones on and plugged in and your significant other is on the couch with you...they are going to tell you're listening to something and depending on volume, be able to hear it clearly.

Open-backed headphones give you a larger sound stage, so that when you are playing a first person shooter, for instance, not only will you be able to tell the shots are coming from the right side and behind a little bit (say your 4 o'clock position)...you'll be able to better discern if it is 20 feet away, or 50 feet, or even farther.

Closed back headphones, generally, are just as good, if not better, for telling which direction a sound came from...your 4 o'clock, but they are typically not as good with the depth or sound of how far away that sound is coming from. The sound can be described as being generating in your head, or in a very small bubble around your head, versus the spacious depth of open backed headphones. Also, closed back headphones are more sound isolating, and do not leak sound to others nearly as much as open back headphones do. So, that's the trade off, and what one prefers is up to one's own opinion. I prefer open backed.

Eventually you could get different ear cups in the future, but this is what I feel is the best bang for your buck.

I currently use these headphones with different ear pads for gaming (I have large ears that stick out, so I prefer "deeper" earcups so my ears can't touch the inside of the cup) Brainwavz replacement earcups.

In order to use replacement cups on this headset is recommend 3d printing adapters, or simply buying the adapters from Mod House Audio

After everything you have $70 headphones, a $28 mic , $10 earcups adapter, $23 earcups for a total price of about $140 USD.

I've used Turtle Beach, Astros, Trittons, and they all pale in comparison. You can get better quality such as an Audeze Mobius, various Sennheiser, Audio Technica, Sony and Bose headphones...but you'd be spending well over $300 at that point for incremental increases for gaming.

You may be able to find better pricing via eBay or other sources. If you have any questions feel free to reply or message me.

I highly recommend looking at some reviews of the Philips shp9500 on YouTube. They are a set of great all around headphones for gaming, movies, and music.

Don't get me wrong, you can totally buy a set of Astros, Plantronics Rig, hyperclouds, Turtle Beach, and just plug and play and enjoy a set of headphones. It's like buying a tv, once you get it home, it is going to look (or sound in this case) better than what you are replacing. BUT...if you have the ability to try and compare a lot of sets...that is when you realize what the actual difference between headsets can be, and that it is so very personalized to what and individual likes and enjoys.

If you know that you prefer closed back headphones, I'm sorry for this wasted wall of text as it will do you no good. I recommend looking at someone else's thoughts and opinions. Everyone's ears and hearing are different and subjective, and I know that I like open backed headphones. Hopefully this has helped in someway. Best of luck on your adventure for a headset.

EDIT

As far as stereo vs surround. Go with a stereo headset, and allow Windows Sonic (free) or Dolby Atmos($9.99 one time license payment) (both available on Xbox and PC) to decode the surround sound properly to your headset while gaming.

USB headsets such as Corsair and Logitech offer surround sound and they are good on the PC, but being USB, they will be incompatible through your controller on the Xbox.

Again, if you have any questions, this is something that I have spent hundreds of hours between many headsets for many purposes figuring out for myself. Between pc gaming, console gaming, listening to music on DAPs and DACs, my wife would tell you that I have spent an obscene amount of time researching.

Cheers.

I got them on Massdrop, but I'm pretty sure these are the same ones

https://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-Philips-Replacement-Earpads-Headphones/dp/B00MFDT894

I got the PU leather ones.

Basically you pop the stock pads out, cut the foam off the plastic frame, but don't harm the frame. You use it for the new pads.

You then clean off the frame, streach the new pads (slowly) to size and it fits like a glove.

I have the SHP9500 and they are the most comfortable headphones I have owned. I have a large head and there is barely any clamping, they basically sit on my head.

I'm not a fan of the stock pads; they're made of a rough material that irritated my ears after a couple of hours. Replaced them with Shure 940 pads using Modhouse Audio's Pad Adapters. Note that the 940 pads aren't as deep as the stock pads, to the point where they almost touch my ear. If she's worried about this then the Brainwavz HM5 pads would be a better option, although people say the sound signature of the SHP9500 is changed somewhat due to the depth of these pads.

Not sure what mic she has for streaming, but the V-Moda BoomPro works very well with these headphones. It's not the same quality level as a dedicated mic, but it is very good for the price.
