So I preordered the ps5 and was looking into getting this monitor here, would I need a different hdmi cable such as the hdmi 2.0 or the display port one?
3 points • Zyst
I play on PC all the time, and play on CRTs for tournaments, and it usually only takes me a few minutes to adjust.
I'm pretty decent at power-shielding too, so it's most likely not a problem.
If you are turbo paranoid, however, you can have a low latency monitor (The FM melee Discord recommends this one, from what I understand it's a really good deal for USD$200 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H5KKQTM/) and then adjust the buffer so your local practice latency is the same as CRT (6-8 buffer depending on setup)
Then when fighting people on netplay still aim to fight people in that 6-8 buffer range, and you should be fine.

Ah fuck, it went up in price lol prolly due to the pandemic. Here's a link tho, still for a solid 200 bucks if you live in the US.

Definitely off topic for this subreddit, but i've been using this monitor. It's 144hz aswell, and hits your budget perfectly. I've never had ANY issues with the monitor, and it's features are great for what it is! I'd highly recomment

You can't go wrong with most of the TN offerings at sub $200.
You might like something like this if you just want a lot of Esports Features, such as a good Black Equalizer, while if you want a mixture of picture quality and gaming performance, you might like the AOC 24G2.
Most of the VA's at this price point have pretty decent colors, but terrible response times. The only exception I know of at this price point is the AOC C24G1, which is fairly decent.

I don’t know what your price range is but if you have the extra money you should buy 144hz monitor. Because you’re getting 195 frames you should be to use them with a higher refresh monitor. https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2411-Equalizer-Vibrance-Competitive/dp/B01H5KKQTM?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_5
Note: because of covid-19 there seems to be a lack of stock on amazon. You might want to wait a little because the prices are pretty high.

I did a little homework on monitors for my speed running hobby. Apparently CRTs have the best response time but if you need to go LCD the BenQ monitors are a good second best. BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P 24 Inch 144Hz Gaming Monitor
The second monitor is still up in the air. I have been offered one that is ~5 years old but still functional or I could get a new one. I would be happy to hear any monitor/video card suggestions you have.
In terms of the tower, it will probably be hidden under the desk. Given that I will have two screens, two people, and consoles the desk is going to be pretty full. I appreciate the attention to aesthetic but in this case unfortunately I don't think it will matter.

Any gaming monitor 60hz+ will do fine. If you want an extra nice one with low latency so you can play at slighltly higher ping, go for 144hz. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2411-Equalizer-Vibrance-Competitive/dp/B01H5KKQTM/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=benq+144hz+monitor&qid=1590625439&sr=8-1

Is this what you're referring to? It wouldn't pose any issues running it along my AOC right? Could just use the AOC as my new "reader" / left monitor and all.

Two very different options:
1080p with high refresh rate, best for games that render at above 60fps and require minimal input lag and very fast motion:
https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2411-Equalizer-Vibrance-Competitive/dp/B01H5KKQTM/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=1080p+144hz&qid=1601922970&sr=8-3
4k monitor with HDR. Better visuals, but only 60 fps:
https://www.amazon.com/LG-27UL500-W-27-Inch-Freesync-Technology/dp/B07PGL2WVS/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=4k+monitor+ips&qid=1601922988&sr=8-3
4k monitors that have refresh rates above 60 exist, but they're extremely expensive. You'd probably end up spending more on the monitor than the console, though that's not that farfetched in the first place, seeing as OLED is my personal choice for console gaming anyways.

I'm actually looking for two separate monitors, one for my mom (she's 64), and one for me. I mainly do schoolwork, but am prone to Dead by Daylight and a few other FPS games. I have a 1050ti in this desktop, and am not sure if that is relevant. The other monitor would be for a laptop she's been using, but it's a little hard on her eyes with how small the screen is -- around 13" I believe. I'm going cross-eyed looking at the pros, cons, availability, reliability, and compatibility of all the monitors I've found. Any help is appreciated.
I've been looking at these with growing interest.

I’m starting my first build, and I am hung up on choosing a monitor. I know I want 144hz, 1ms response time, and all of that because I am mainly a fighting game/ competitive gaming player. I know they always use BenQ in tournaments, but is a cheaper BenQ worth it? The only drawback is the washed out colors from the TN panel, but is the extras for the BenQ worth the drop in color? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey everyone,
My PS5 comes in early next week and i’ve been thinking about upgrading my monitor along with it.
The monitor i’ve been using on my ps4 for years is the BenQ RL2455HM. I think it was a good monitor since my main focus is competitive FPS games even though it didn’t look the best on single player games. I was thinking about upgrading to something like this.
My question is would there be any reason to upgrade from the 1080 60 hz monitor to the 1080 144 hz monitor since most games will run at 60 fps still? Also, is it better to go for a 1080p 144hz monitor or something like a 4k 60hz monitor? I’d love some monitor recommendations.

Tough to say why it might feel different, but it’s most likely due to lag because of an update or just because our bodies feel different day to day. It might seem silly but working out regularly can help this. Keeps you from having a mental fog mostly, but also helps posture and confidence. A consistent warm up routine, even if it’s only 15 minutes will also help eliminate a lot of the variation you feel.
I have this monitor and my roommate uses this one . We play in the same room and I can’t tell any difference between the 2. You can’t flip it to portrait mode, but if that’s not worth $50 to you I’d recommend that Acer he uses for sure.

BenQ XL2411P (My recommendation)
Spectre E255B (165 Hz)
Also do note that at 27" you'd be better off going for a 1440P monitor as it can look blurry when viewed relatively close to it.
