It super depends on what you need it for. If you're playing an online game like Overwatch or CSGO that can actually do more than sixty frames, then there may be some reason to go above 60Hz. However, the difference between framerates gets harder and harder to see the more you go above 50Hz, so unless you're trying to squeeze out every bit of motion quality possible, it's often not worth it. Also, many above-60 monitors in the budget category sacrifice things like colour and value quality and resolution. 150$ USD can buy you a professional grade 60Hz monitor or an okay 144Hz monitor.
I recommend a Benq monitor. They don't have the refresh rate or the pizzazz that other fancy gaming monitors have, but they have great colour quality and a very fast response rate. Here's the one I use in my studio. It's 250 bucks for a professional grade 4K monitor, that's a higher quality than many large budget monitors. There's cheaper versions if you're willing to go 1080 instead of 4K, including a few with higher Hz.

This would probably be the cheapest monitor out there with HDR. If you want something cheaper, I'd recommend TCL 4K TVs as they are pretty cheap but it's a TV so do as you will.

I am the same as you. I used to play on a 55" TV and was gifted a monitor last year. I will never go back. I even upgraded 9 month later.
I currently have the BenQ EL2870U 28 inch HDR 4K Gaming Monitor. I love it and would recommend moving a monitor to anyone.

Xbox one X only runs Destiny 2 at 30 FPS. Any higher frame rate would be useless. If you want to make use of HDR you could get that, but buying a high frame rate monitor won’t do anything for you unless you have a PC.

Need help deciding between 2 monitors for the upcoming Xbox Series X
Currently I have an LG Ultrawide 29 for my design work but I also use it with my One X and I can't stand the black bars on the sides. I know its near impossible if not impossible to find the HDMI 2.1 with monitors but after hours of research I've narrowed my choices down to these 2. FYI I am not very educated on specs etc and I play a lot of competitive FPS more than anything. Not an avid poster on here so excuse any formatting issues.. Thanks everyone

For the price it's decent, only thing I see from the reviews is the HDR is not the best.

I don’t know a screen that does it. Some one has mentioned the LG one so you can have best of both worlds. 1ms in standard and slower in HDR
There is also this
https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-EL2870U-Anti-glare-Brightness-Intelligence/dp/B078HWN5CX
1ms/4ms. Not to my eyes but I’m not a professional gamer who runs at 1080p 200+ hz. I run at 4K 98Hz with HDR
Now I have HDR I also wouldn’t go back anyway, it is fantastic

I assume a monitor with 2.1 is gonna be way more than $300 right?
1 points • GingerJett
That's a pretty low budget. Whatever you get won't take advantage of many of the next gen features of Series X/S. In truth you need to wait until the HDMI 2.1 monitors start dropping and then you'll need about $1000.
It's a tiny bit over your budget but there's the BenQ EL2870U.

Check this monitor out it was one of my options at the time- sorry to hear it's sold out. Also check out LG they have a couple good 4k monitors that meet the needs of the ps5. At the very minimum you are looking for 4k 60hz with HDR. https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-EL2870U-Anti-glare-Brightness-Intelligence/dp/B078HWN5CX/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?dchild=1&keywords=4k+monitor&qid=1605573687&sprefix=4k+m&sr=8-16

I’m really happy with it to be honest, I mounted it on a triple monitor stand so it sits above my dual work monitors, the thing is a Beast! I couldn’t believe how big it is but is perfect to be able to sit back a little ways and play like a TV. I feel it has upped my game with the faster refresh rate.
The only thing I would think to possibly future prof more would be a 1440 p capable of 120hz but I think that is nit picking.
Edit: Honestly if you don’t have the extra cash for 4K 1080p is plenty of resolution sub 40 or 50 inch screens. Go for better refresh and response rate you will be much happier.

Also have an 8k for everything else since it has hdmi 2.1 on it.

Here it is, it’s been going in and out of stock since COVID hit though
If you can get it for MSRP at $300 it’s one of the best deals for a large-ish 4K monitor on the market
Edit: looks like BenQ’s website has them in stock

Yes, I'd look for 4k 60 hz - as there's no such thing as a cheap 4k 120/144 hz. This is a TN panel, but it's a great budget buy - and BenQ makes solid monitors:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HWN5CX/
It's probably the best in the budget 4k/60 bunch.

I’ve been using a very old 1080p screen for my ps4. For the ps5 i really want to experience 4K. I’m looking for a monitor because I game in my room and don’t have enough space for a large tv.
I’m looking at these two models: LG 27ul650 and Benq el2870u. Are these any good or do you recommend another one?

Heres a cheap $300 4K 28” for eyes especially (in stock start of September) https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-EL2870U-Anti-glare-Brightness-Intelligence/dp/B078HWN5CX/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=benq+4k+28+inch&qid=1596864868&sprefix=benq+4k+&sr=8-1
And here’s a more expensive one in stock that’s 4K 32” both are made to help eye strain : ) https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-EW3270U-inch-Monitor-FreeSync/dp/B078HWBGH5/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=benq+4k+28+inch&qid=1596864868&sprefix=benq+4k+&sr=8-2

If I were in your shoes I would wait until there’s more information or buy a 4K monitor. It remains to be seen whether or not 1440p will be supported in all titles. It’s also unclear as to which titles will support high refresh rates. Currently only one game has support for high refresh rates so I doubt that you’ll get much value out of a high refresh rate monitor if you’re using it exclusively with a ps5.
If you wanted a monitor to buy right now I would either choose this with 4K HDR and a TN panel, or this 4K no HDR monitor with an IPS panel.
Both are cheaper than the monitor you’d linked.

Looking at 2 monitors, don't know anything about monitors. Are they basically the same I see Free Sync vs Free Sync premium?

Budget: \~$450 USD
Prospective Resolution: 4K or 1440p
Size: 27"
Aspect Ratio: N/A
Adaptive Sync: N/A
Other Features: USB-C would be nice. Maybe IPS if it makes sense
Usage Type: Programming/Coding and PS4/PS5
I'm sitting down here and looking at monitors. And well, quite frankly I'm getting overwhelmed with the amount of options, and jargon. I cannot decide between 4K or 1440p. Or what refresh rate I should have (right now the logical one seems to be only 60 Hz)
The monitor's primary use will be used for programming/coding. It'll also have a PS4 and/or PS5 attached to it from time to time. As well, I'd like to have a dual monitor setup down the line.
Here's some monitors I keep on coming across as possible suggestions. If anyone has input, that'd be great!

Its really a matter of opinion but I would lean towards 4k for those kinds of games if you can fit it into your budget. Honestly this https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-EL2870U-Anti-glare-Brightness-Intelligence/dp/B078HWN5CX/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=benq+monitor&qid=1595081585&sr=8-8 monitor runs the same cost as the 1080 one that you linked to. Its not as good as this https://www.amazon.com/LG-27UL500-W-27-Inch-Freesync-Technology/dp/B07PGL2WVS/ref=psdc_1292115011_t3_B078HWN5CX monitor that I mentioned before but it does come in $50 dollars cheaper. It gets knocked for being a TN panel, but I think its still a good 4k budget monitor. The reviews suggest that the HDR is not great on it, but HDR on these monitors isn't great all around.

For the kinds of games you like to play I don't think you would be disappointed with either of those options. Its something to shoot for anyways if you decide to take the 4k route.

You can find a lot of 4K monitors for that price, if you dont intend to game on 4K you can get the best 1440p or 1080p monitors

It will also depend on what type of resolution and framerate you are looking for. If you just want 4k 60hz there are a few good priced monitors on amaszon in the 25-28in range. If you are looking for 4k 120hz you are going to be paying a lot more.
