I'm not saying "don't sell a pickup you don't use," but if somebody were in a situation where they really did need one occasionally, you want to put a float charger on the battery while it's parked to prevent that.

That’s pretty hard to believe. A tender goes for $25 on Amazon, for example, and is going to use scarcely any power once the battery is topped off.
Meanwhile, a new battery is at least $100 without some kind of warranty discount. If you assume a relatively expensive 30 cents per kWh, that’s 250 kWh the tender would have to use to reach $100. That would make it a pretty major power user in the household, way more than, say, a fridge. No way.

Even a battery that comes 70% charge really would benefit if you fully charged it before use, IMO. I don’t have any personal experience with lithium batteries, I don’t need one for my bikes and it’s a pretty big expense. I’m sure that there are websites that talk about all the advantages and someone else might say that 70% is good enough to plug and play, but I personally would charge it. And get a tender that specifically mentions it handles a lithium battery. I read the online description of the 740mA tender you posted, it says it’s good for any Lead Acid battery, doesn’t mention Lithium batteries at all. If you hadn’t texted opened the package and don’t want to keep it for another battery driven device, perhaps you can exchange it.

At the beginning of the pandemic I half-joked with all my car guy friends about buying stocks in Lead Acid battery companies.
But you can solve this problem by buying like a $25 battery tender from Amazon.

This is what I bought for my girlfriends R3. Its simple, and comes with the ring terminals to stay hooked up to your battery. If you're familiar with a soldering iron, you can extend the battery hookup to where the triple tree is and setup a usb charger to use with a phone mount. Otherwise you can just run the wiring to the rear seat as a dedicated charging end.

i prefer tuning at home. it just gives you way more flexibility in the future if you need to change or remove the tune.
Get the battery tender junior. Its pretty much the cheapest battery charger you can get that will work. It technically cannot charge a car battery but it will maintain a charge (which is exactly what you need). i use the battery tender junior for my lawnmower and generator to keep those batteries topped off, as thats what its for and charges smaller batteries. But it worked perfect when i flashed my car.

Buy this and hook it up everytime you ride. Best money spent for an all electric start bike!

if your battery is dying that quickly your car has other problems. also, these exist

Can't recommend this enough. Considering the alternative (of running the car) it could potentially pay for itself by the end of the year. Something as simple as this would work....

They have a light that shows solid/blinking red or green depending on charge state. Very easy to read.
I believe blinking red is not charging or battery trouble, solid red is charging, blinking green is 80%-or-more charged, and solid green is fully charged. It'll tell you right on the charger.
This one works great:

Probably your phone charger is what drained it. If a battery gets drained completely like that, it can kill it, particularly if it's older.
Depending on where you park, you need this

According to the product details of the Tender Junior it is suitable:
" Perfect for charging all 12-volt lead-acid, flooded or sealed maintenance free batteries (AGM and gel cell) "

Just check your charger is the same model number as the one being sold here, there may be variant/older models.

Nobody has mentioned this yet, but by a trickle charger, always handy to have. This one is good

Got a microstart in 2013 and used it as recently as last month.
Battery Tender makes a great product and has been around a long time.

I found this linked on a PCX forum site. It seems legit and the service manual just states that the battery is 12V.
This tender specifically has a port that you're able to plug into the USB charging port in the scooters glovebox. I'm assuming it'd probably be okay to just do it that way instead of taking the battery cover off?

Step 1: Get some fuel stabilizer, read the label, and pour the requisite amount into a full fuel tank. Let it run a few minutes. Slosh it around a bit if you're into that. Let it run a bit longer and then you're good to go. If you're really worried about the vaccuum carbs, you can take off the gas tank and just loosen the drain screw on the float bowls so all the gas drains out of the carbs (make sure you turn off the petcock before this). All you need for this is likely a 10mm socket and a screw driver. Be careful though, those carb screws are always soft and love to strip. I can't even count how many float bowl screws I've had to twist out with vice grips over the years.
Step 2: Maintain battery. Invest in a battery tender like this. It will keep your battery healthy all winter, and will also charge dead/new batteries you buy. It's a good tool to have.
If you're going to leave the battery in the bike (which is perfectly fine), you might want to get an SAE harness. The rings go on the battery terminals and you string it through the bike so the SAE plug is accessible outside of the bike so you don't have to keep taking body panels on and off to get to the battery. Looks like this. You can also get an adapter for the SAE plug and charge your phone off it while you're riding.
Step 3: Might as well give a good and thorough wash and detail before it sits for a few months.
That's pretty much it.

If you want a name brand you can get a battery tender jr. for 25 bucks prime. https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0123-Junior-Charger/dp/B000CITK8S
I have one of these on a polaris RZR that doesn't get run much. The factory battery lasted 8 years, and even after that I think I actually had an ignition switch problem, not a battery problem, but I had already bought a new battery.

If you're parked where you have access to wall power, use one of these instead:

If you are in the US, most auto parts stores will test your battery and alternator for free. You may also have a short causing the battery to drain even when the car is shut off
I'd watch these videos from ChrisFix on how to diagnose with a multimeter
Also protip: disconnect you car battery of you are going to idle the car for an extended period of time and put it on a float charger to keep it in tip top shape

Any kind of automotive battery charger shoild work fine. Theyre al inteded to bebused with leas acid batteries of sla (sealed lead acid) in your case.
I have a delfan battery tender and also a schumacher battery charger/tender.. the schumacher is a little fanicer with more bells and whistles.

Even though these are marketed as "maintainers" there really no need to leave this on the battery all the time. Once theyre charged you can go ahead and take the charger off. Keeping it on there all the time may start to evaporate the liquid electrolyte. Then ykud beed ti top off with distilled water. This can still be done with sla batteries by prying off the plastic top and carefully popping off the little rubber caps according to a youtune video i saw.. they used a syringe squirt water in the holes.

Can't comment on other brands, but melting the transformer is definitely not supposed to happen. You'll definitely want an automatic charger and not a trickle charger - trickle chargers deliver a constant current the whole time.
If I may, I'd suggest the Battery Tender® 4 AMP charger and maintainer. Or just throw it on a Battery Tender® Junior if you don't need it quick charge or recharge.

I have a battery tender jr that I bought from amazon and it works fine. I would recommend getting an adapter to attach to your battery so all you have to do it plug it in. With the SAE lead you can run it to the side of the bike somewhere on the side of the bike where it's easy to get to so you don't have to take the seat off every time you want to put the battery on charge.

A good premade tool kit like this one from RevZilla is a good start. It should take care of most things. Make sure to get the right one, IE standard or metric. Fort Nine put out a sold video with things that are great to have. As far as a battery tender goes I use this one because it comes with an SAE link I just leave hooked up to my battery to use with other SAE compatible items. Edited for Grammer and missed words

Gas stoves typically have a standard 15A plug on them to power their electricals. Verify how much it actually pulls. I doubt it's going to be more than 3 amps. Invest in a cheap inverter that will power it, a 7 or 12 AH AGM battery and a charger that will provide a float charge. Keep it on the charger. When you need to use the stove, hook the battery to the inverter and power on the stove. Turn off the inverter when you're done and return the battery to the charger when you can. If you're frugal, you can find cheaper parts, but these will probably do the job for you.

> Why is the dual-bank maintainer so much more expensive than just two individual units?
No idea.
> is there a reason that i should pay for the dual-bank unit?
No.
The fact is, you don't need to leave a battery maintainer continuously connected to a battery, especially if they're in a cold garage. You can easily get by with switching them around a lot less often than you might think. Once a week would be plenty often, even once every 2 weeks should be fine.
> i forgot what bike was being maintained last.
A post-it note and a sharpie can take care of this problem.
Stay away from the really cheap trickle/float chargers like this one. They will burn batteries dry because they don't have the smarts that a better maintainer does.
I have a Battery Tender Jr, and a Battery Doc, and I also have the Harbor Freight own-brand version of the BT Jr, they all work fine.

You can go all in one unit.
Nothing to write home about but should run a bluetooth radio for a while.
The more do it your self option. You need an inverter, battery, and battery charger
Now both options will run alot more than the radio costs. $90 for the all in one, $75 or so for the do it your self. Also both have around 80watt hours of power. The do it yourself options has a lead acid battery which you don't want to run to under 50% or it will lessen the life out of it. Say the device uses 10 watts, either option best case would be 8 hours before needing a recharge. Probably a lot cheaper easier to buy a bluetooth am/fm radio there are a few battery powered models on amazon for $30ish dollars.
