The BIC F12 is also going to be a better, more capable option at $20 more from Amazon.

dont waste $80+ trying to get that piece of crap working again. just donate it and put that money towards something that is half decent. i'm sure someone else can chime in on which cheap subs to look out for.

i know this one for $200ish comes up often: https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M

You aren't really getting a deal. They are always on sale from MSRP, and <$200 is a decent sale price.

The F12 subwoofer is regularly recommended here and at r/hometheater price range https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M/

I paired mine with a bic F12, had pretty good reviews on Amazon. I've been really happy, fills out the sound real nice.

BIC F12 normally got for $200. Not going to match anything close to the SVS/Rythmik/HSU. But value for money it’s good.

Solid choices.

A good alternative to the Dayton is the BIC F12, although it's slightly more expensive. Still a solid entry level sub. https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M

For the surrounds, just do get another pair of the 4b's and put them on stands.

If budget is tight the BIC F12 is a very popular sub https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015A8Y5M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_-xtdFb3N1226N

Dayton is def in price range and good for what you pay. If you can spare another $50-$60, the BIC is a good option!

Yes, 3.0 means L/C/R.

Your speaker choices are fine.

Any receiver will pair well, buy based on the features you need. Denon S540BT is the cheapest way to get something with 4K HDR pass-through.

https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrs540bt/denon-avr-s540bt-5.2-ch-x-70-watts-bluetooth-a/v-receiver/1.html

For home theatre you will absolutely want a subwoofer. Bass is a crucial component of movies+music, and is more expensive to do well than the other frequency ranges.

https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M - That is one of the better value subs available. Slightly above entry level, which would be something like the Dayton Sub-1200 at $150.

RCA cable question

What type of RCA cable would I need to set up the BIC F12 with these powered speakers? Or do I need to buy a pair of powered speakers with a single sub out instead of RCA connections?

r/BudgetAudiophile • comment

Ooh, boy, trying hard to start down that rabbit hole. LOL.

I think the RB42 with the OriGain would be great. I would recommend avoiding the SUB-1500, it can get a little flabby. A better and highly regarded sub at around $200 is the BIC F12. But many, many folks are happy with the 12" Dayton Audio one.

Receiver recommendations

Hey, my Onkyo TX-NR609 no longer wants to turn on and I'm currently looking for receiver recommendations. I'd like something around the 300$ range, if possible. I'm considering a renewed Denon AVR-S540BT-R or the YAMAHA RX-V385. It'll mainly be used for watching movies/tv.

My current setup:

2x Polk Audio Monitor60C Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker

I'll be honest, homeboi is right that you should look second hand. Personally if I was looking at new I'd at least allocate $500-700. If you're willing to entertain refurb you can get some Polk speakers here and get a new BIC F12 sub here which costs about $350. I'd be hard pressed to find much cheaper without considering the used market, let alone I'm not sure I could find new speakers to pair that would work well for you anywhere near the price . . .

If you're looking to spend a little more, there's these slightly better Edifiers, and the Dayton Sub-1200 or Bic F12 if you want some serious bass.

yeah unfortunately hoe builders are not the people you should be asking about A/V or Home Theater, they're complete morons when it comes to that stuff to be honest.

so $700-$850 what I'd do is

https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrs540bt/denon-avr-s540bt-5.2-ch-x-70-watts-bluetooth-a/v-receiver/1.html $179

https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M $210

then for the speakers you can look into the HTD Level 2's and use the two back in ceiling speakers as surrounds for now.

Then you can upgrade later on as budget replenishes or you can do what /u/DZcreeper said and start with those speakers and add as you go like I said you can use the back two in-ceilings as temporary surrounds

There is some solid value at two bills or below. The Dayton SUB1200 is one of my three subs and it performs very well for movies. It's a 12 inch ported model which I believe is about the right size for theater use in the sized area you have. No, it can be easily bettered for critical music listening, but you need only an octave from your sub to be covered if you set your speakers to a 50hz crossover. Too bad it's out of stock. Your probably would find that the BIC F12 has a solid reputation and is right in your budget area. Costs a bit more than the Dayton but will add all the boom you realistically need for normal theater use. https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M . There is a danger in going too cheap so don't be too tight with the cash. For just a bit more, this BIC makes some improvements over the F12. https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-H-100II-12-Inch-Subwoofer/dp/B00BG2BDGG/ref=pd_lpo_23_t_1/130-2916947-6686213?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00BG2BDGG&pd_rd_r=a2e51642-2311-49bf-88f3-e70c930b6cc7&pd_rd_w=cKgDP&pd_rd_wg=xxBGF&pf_rd_p=7b36d496-f366-4631-94d3-61b87b52511b&pf_rd_r=3WDZZSQ7PFM8GGXR14HM&psc=1&refRID=3WDZZSQ7PFM8GGXR14HM Good luck.

[Denon s540bt] (https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrs540bt/denon-avr-s540bt-5.2-ch-x-70-watts-bluetooth-a/v-receiver/1.html)

BIC America F12 subwoofer

PSB Alpha P5

Interesting thing about these bookshelves are that the tweeter is switched with the bass speaker.

Yeah I can get stands. I was going to get some anyway because I eventually want to turn it into a 5.1. I just thought for now it looked nicer in the entertainment center

I'd even recommend getting 2 BIC America F12 subs.

They usually run \~$200 each and are amazing quality and then you can get 2 high quality low value nice subs for the price of 1 mid-high range sub.

If it’s a big room and you are on a budget, ported is the way to go. Best option for you would probably be the SVS PB1000 but here are some others.

So I recently purchased a BIC F12 powered subwoofer as seen here and I want to hook it up to my current Amp here which has bass-out to speaker wire. I need to convert this into RCA in such a signal that my sub will read it.

Would an adapter like this work?

Should I be worried if my amp sends power to the sub since it's already powered?

Thanks y'all, sorry I'm like a super noob here

>Do you think this:
>
>https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-800-8-80-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-627
>
> would be any better for the sub?

That is actually WORSE, way way way WORSE. Basically the Sub800, Sub1000 are good for very small bedrooms or office setups, nothing more. They're way too weak to do anything bigger room wise.

If you're on a budget and still want a decent sub BIC F12 $209 https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M

>My main problem with subs is that I only have 9" of clearance under my media console to fit one, and there's not really any room on either side for it to fit either. So I'm looking at 8" (or smaller) subs, or any of these flatter types.

Subwoofers don't need to be up front near the rest of your speakers / TV, and they shouldn't be stuffed into a media console. They need to be open and not confined.

Find another spot in the room. The back left corner of your room looks wide open.

>And do you think this would be a better receiver: https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxv385bl/yamaha-rx-v385-5.1-ch-x-70-watts-bluetooth-a/v-receiver/1.html ? Really trying to keep it below $300 for the receiver if possible.

Problem is this is an absolute HORRIBLE time to be buying an AVR. Prices are drastically inflated right now.

Is it good? It's ok, not great, but not horrible either. Not winning any awards with it.

If you're looking for cheap and decent, then just get a BIC.

BIC America F12 12-Inch 475-Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer - $209.99

Acoustech H-100 Cinema Series 500-Watt Front-Firing Subwoofer, High-Gloss Black - $249.99

I have the H-100, and I'm pleased with it. Keep in mind, I don't have much to compare it with, since I was using soundbars with gutless subs for years.

Best bet is to keep an eye out for a killer used deal, because that pittance won’t fit you much of anything new.

Klipsch R-100SW 10" subwoofer | Incredibly deep bass and an all-digital amplifier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FKH9ZDC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6yx4EbQAXS9ZY

Doesn’t do shit below 30Hz, but it’s close to your price range, so there’s that...

BIC America F12 12-Inch 475-Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015A8Y5M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HCx4Eb6VHBT5K

Another option for you. You’re making a bunch of trade-offs with either because you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel here, but these are the type of deal you’re looking at new.

Here's what I'd get with that budget:

Receiver: Denon X1500H - $289.99 (currently out of stock) or
Denon X1600H - $329.99 (currently in stock)
Front L/R: Micca MB42X bookshelf speakers - $79.95
Center: Micca MB42-C - $59.95
Subwoofer: BIC F12 - $209.99
Total with X1500H: $639.98 (just under budget)
Total with X1600H: $679.99 (just over budget)

I'm not sure if the X1500H will go back in stock but going with either that or the X1600H is definitely the way to go. They're going to give you better room correction than the S series.

I'd start with that receiver and the 3.1 setup and then down the line you can always get better front speakers and move the Miccas to the back. The miccas are fantastic for their price though. And that subwoofer and the Dayton Sub1200 are pretty much the only two I'd get around that price range. They aren't going to be great, but they'll be way better than any shitty subwoofer from Polk or boston acoustics.

okay heres my setup:

I have a Pioneer VSX-1120 bi-amped to a harman\kardon receiver AVR146 I honestly hate this reciever I feel like it makes speakers sound terrible. I have a technics SA-EX110 that I think is from 1991 that makes the same set of speakers sound 100x better.

The pioneer receiver does the HF of my yamaha NS-A1738 speakers and the H/K does the LF 15" subs. as well as the output for my SVS PB12-NSD sub. I also have a Bic America F12 which is getting repaired under warranty right now. I want to add it to the setup as well as a second set of basic speakers.

I know youll make fun of me for bi-amping but honestly I notice a huge increase in volume and bass from the 15" subs. I couldn't get the sub output on the pioneer "main" receiver to work.

always open to suggestions.

For $1000: Yamaha Receiver, $330
Emotiva B1 and C1, $430 if purchased separately using 20% back
Rocketfish wireless Tx/Rx, $120
Cheap, easy to drive Micca surrounds, $55.

Leaves you at $935 total for 5.0 system. If you want to up your budget by another $150ish you could get a decent subwoofer, which I would really recommend. If you want to up it by $450ish you can get an excellent sub at SVS right now, which I would recommend even more.

Hey!
As you probably noticed, many people here are quite against buying a soundbar, that's because it's usually just a bad investment.
I'm telling this as someone who purchased a soundbar and truly regretted.

Setting up a home theater setup is not as hard as you may think, and tbh it's much more fun because it allows for much greater customization, so every setup is pretty much unique!

You mentioned getting a Atmos setup for under $1000, that's not really that challenging, lemme give you a basic setup example:

Total: U$ 970.92

A great option for the 5 channels would be the Jamo S 803 HCS, unfortunally it's currently unavailable, it used to be $199.
