Would you consider these comparable to the HD58X at all? I'm just curious because it seems like the Massdrop website indicates that it would take a couple weeks for the Sennheisers to be delivered.

What about something like the ATH-M40x? Saw in another thread recommendations for this. The only disadvantage seems to be having to have an adapter for the boom mic (as its 2.5mm not 3.5mm). But that was an old thread and I'm not sure what the opinions are on it now.

For around that price, closed back, and from a reputable brand, check these out.

I would reccomend the Audiotechnica M40x. Great sound quality and reproduction. Not much emphasis on the bass side if that is what you are looking for but it does has enough for my taste, may only be disapointed if you are really into bass such as Beats headphones and the such. Give these a look.

I’ve used these for half a year now and love them. They’re pretty close to what you described though they are closed back. I’m sure you could find some cheaper if you wanted but these are a good reference point.
Closed or open back headphones depend on situation. I do all of my recording and editing myself and don't have anyone else around so enjoy closed back for the fact I dont hear anything around me and can focus on my monitoring audio. If you plan on doing a podcast with another person in the room I would suggest looking for an open backed pair since it makes it way easier to hear people

Currently I have Audio-Technica ATH-M40x, had them for quite a while.
Are there headphones that are significantly better than the M40x and are worth buying for about under $300?

Thanks! What about these? I always see this brand popping up everywhere.

The audio technica m40x are on sale for $20 off on amazon bringing the price to $80. I’d go with those as it’s not a bad deal, and the addition of the detachable cable increases the longevity by a whole lot.

Audio Technica M40X. There's a rewnewed version for a bit cheaper.

I'm a fan of great (pretty much anything) with minimal expense. I have Audio Technica ATH-M40x's (or whatever the letter model number are) for wired headphones, and I bought the Bluetooth version (30's I think)... I'm extremely happy with both. When I wear them all I hear is my device, and my husband sitting beside me talking is VERY loud. Both are on Amazon, the Bluetooth ones were about $80, I think the wired ones are about the same cost, but I bought mine and 3 years ago, so I could be wrong. I've seen them both on Amazon last month. The wired ones are not the most expensive, which are extra amazing (hubby has those), but not the cheapest, either.
The ear cups are oval, shaped like your actual ear (who has round ears?), and are super convey for hours. The Bluetooth have a mic so you can answer your phone with them also. VERY great!

I use the Mooer GE200. You could go with the GE150 if you want to save money. Has bunch of amps, cabs, effects, ect ect. I use the M40x Audio Technica. You can find cheaper studio headphones but these are nice because the wire is replaceable. Thats pretty much all you need other than a guitar and cable. It even has a audio interface built in for recording. With the headphones no one ever knows I am playing. If you want super simple and portable check out the VOX Amplugs.

I use Grado sr80e headphones, I think they sound great. But they’re not for everyone, as they’re on ear and also open back (sound can freely go into and out of the headphones.
Check online for refurbished headphones if you want them less expensive. Try www.altomusic.com or similar sites

A little more pricey, but the ATH-M40x headphones go on sale for $70 occasionally, in fact, it seems like you just missed a sale on them.
They're currently $99 on Amazon, but if you keep your eye on it there should be a sale at some point.
They're the only closed-backed headphones in that price range that I have experience with. Sound is pretty good as well as the comfort, although I did upgrade to Brainwavz pads at one point.
The Takstar Pro 82s are also a good option, I haven't used them personally, but they're popular in the headphone modding community and have quality drivers.

For 100 the audio technica m40x would be my reccomendation it's built well and has a great sound and are similar to the beats but if you want want something more premium the 32ohm version of the beyerdynamic dt770 is just around 150 and is absolutely excellent Here are amazon links for both

unless your room is professionally treated, mixing on monitors is hella inaccurate, but it is more fun to do for the creative phase of production

The DT770s are great headphones but wouldn't be my choice. But yes, they're solid based on your preferences and I'm sure you'd be happy with them.
As far as the ohms, yeah go with the 80. 80 ohms will give you slightly better bass. Higher ohms you probably wouldn't want to use without an amp.
I would get Monoprice Monolith M565s as my first choice.
My second choice would be ATH M50Xs with a nice pair of new brainwavz earpads - but from what I understand ATH-M50Xs are on backorder right now. The only place on Amazon I saw ship right away is charging 300 for em, which is double what their usual price is and a less than reputable seller for 220.
The M50X Bluetooth are available for 170 tho, and that's a really solid option too.
If you wanted to save a little money M40Xs with the earpads would be a good choice too.
Edit - actually looks like guitar center has M50s in stock in the white color if that's ok with you
Black are available for order at ATH official website, but I'm positive they'll send you a backorder email. Idk how long that could be to ship, but if you're ok with that it's a great choice.
Also you should know if you order the Monoprice, they are the best sound you can get for under 200... But the sound leakage is high. They are loud to other people in the area (you could almost use them as speakers lol). If you need privacy I'd go to the ATH.

Since the pads are cracked you're going to need to get a replacement. Brainwavs pads are cheap and extremely good for the ATH - mX0x line. I'd recommend the default oval shape or the angled sheep skin. The pads will not only improve comfort of the headphone, but they also improve sound quality and headphone isolation.
If you like the m20x I'd also recommend considering upgrading to something like the m40x; you'll still want to get the Brainwavs pads. It will have a similar sound profile to the m20x, but it's more refined and detailed. The m40x also has substantially better build quality then the m20x or the m30x.

If you only need a mic the Shure Sm58 for $100 is the mic to have. Its a staple, fairly cheap, good sounding, and will last a life time.
For a whole setup $150 is an EXTREMELY tight budget. But Focusrite Scarletts are a reputedly good brand. I found a bundle (linked below) thats a killers deal. It gives you the Interface (Scarlett solo 3rd gen) headphones, microphone, cables, mic stand, and pop filter for $169.99. That gives you everything with the exception of a DAW. You can download Reaper for free, and use it basically forever without paying, but it only costs $60.
The two things you would wanna upgrade when you get more money is the microphone (sm58 is pretty much all you need, and only $100) and a pair of Monitors, or better headphones (ATH m40) With those upgraded you will literally have a 100% usable setup, and probably similar to what everyone else here has.

>I currently already own a Behringer UM2 Audio Interface, would this be enough to power the headphones?
Yes.
>For reference, this is everything I'm purchasing M40Xs, Cable Replacement, and Replacement Ear Cups.
I think you should just buy the K361 or K371 instead.
1 points • Black_Phoenix_JP
The pads that come with them are comfortable even if you use glasses. But if you must buy some pads, Brainwavz Hybrid. I use the round ones on my AKG K845BT and I feel a change in the fullness of the lows (minimal but noticeable) as the sound stage (also noticeable but not over blowing change).
Let's say the enjoyment I take from the musics I normally listen were increased with this pads. Mind it that I replace not because I wanted, but because the Stock Pads gone kaput.
Also if you are looking at the Audio-Technica M40x, I would suggest you also look at the AKG Pro Audio K361 or the Sony MDR7506.

[Recommendation request] Light weight, over the ear, natural sounding, mid-high impedance. Cooler Master MH-752 is best comfort fit so far, but has terrible long term build quality reviews.
Ok, I've been on a headphone buy/return spree. I'm getting really good at repackaging earbuds and headphones. Help me find my soulmate, please!! The amazon returns department begs you!!
I've tried: ATH m40x (too tight, not enough padding on headstrap), SteelSeries Arctis Pro(too heavy), Audeze iSine 10(too big for my tiny ear holes), CCA C10(also too big for my ears with the smallest tips) Shitty in ear hook earbuds(they were a longshot, idk, colors!) I thought bluetooth would work. I was wrong. Too much latency for what I do.
- Budget - Under $500, but I'm flexible if it's really perfect.
- Source - Mixer for streaming, ASMR, & voice over. I'm planning on upgrades here too, so if I need to for your recommendation, throw it at me anyway, just let me know!!
- Requirements for Isolation - Closed back for sure. Minimal leakage. If your suggestion requires an ear pad mod, just let me know. I'm open to accessorizing the right fit!
- Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No
- Preferred Type of Headphone - Over/around ear, not on (though I have smaller ears, so I might be able to get away with borderline on ear).
- Preferred tonal balance - Balanced for the most natural sound.
- Past headphones - I've used a pair of discontinued monoprice headphones for about 4 or 5 years. I never used the bluetooth part though. I'm wired all the way. The ear pads are nice and soft, supple, leather-adjacent material. I'd like to upgrade because they're pretty cheap and I'd like something that's a bit more professional. I can't wear anything heavy or overly clampy. I've tried in ears and I feel like I'm drowning/gonna pass out, so those are a no go. (That was my first attempt. Tried 4 different types. All flops that had the same feeling.) I LOVE the feel of the Cooler Master MH751/752. Unfortunately, most of the reviews say that they fall apart after a couple months of normal use. They're also perfectly light. The specs say they weigh 280g / 0.62lbs, so something around there would be ideal!!
I'll be using mine for long periods of time for streaming/vocal recording sessions. I'd prefer a cord that is replaceable. Sometimes, since my headphones are so light, I forget they're on and try to walk away from my computer like a dipshit. - Preferred Music - I'm basic. I mostly listening to whatever game I'm playing, & alt/pop/pop punk for music. Again, I'd like the cans to be balanced though. Not looking to pump bass or anything. If anything, treble focused would prob be acceptable.
- What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I'm looking for something higher quality than I've used.
If you have any questions you need answered to help make a recommendation, let me know! Thank you for your help!!
TL;DR: I need something around 280g/0.6 lbs, neutral sound, med-higher impedance preferred. Over/around ear only (though I have smaller ears, so I might be able to get away with borderline on ear).

Honestly if you have that kind of budget and there isn't a specific reason why you need to have a headset, I'd suggest just getting a nice pair of headphones and a standalone mic. With the exception of the HyperX Cloud/Cloud 2/Cloud Core/Cloud Alpha (all the same headset with different branding), overall gaming headsets sound kinda crap and don't have amazing build quality.
For headphones you could go with something like the Audio Technica ATH M40X or the Brainwavz HM5s.
For the mic you have two avenues you can go. If you'd like everything to be all in one package like a headset, you can go with the Antlion Modmic. If you don't mind the microphone being on/attached to the desk, then you could get something like the Fifine 669B.
If you absolutely have to have a gaming headset, I'd go with either the HyperX Cloud IIs or the Sennheiser PC37Xs from Drop.

I like Zeos. He's got a good angle on the common man. If I ever need anything more technical and facts based, I go straight for Amirm over at AudioScienceReview.com. You can't really get much better than his measurements.
Here's how it'd go down, right? 300 ish dollars for a DAC, Amp and headphones.
DAC: Topping D10 Just the best sub 100 dollar DAC. Seriously.
Amp: JDS Atom The O2 but smaller and cheaper. Maybe less powerful but not by much.
Cans: For Bass, the Philips SHP9500, for Analytical, the Audio Technica ATH-M40x, and for treble/ V shape, the Beyerdynamics DT 770s, 80 or 250Ohm.
You'll land anywhere between 230-300 dollars and this is a setup that can last someone a lifetime of gaming.

Hey, looking to buy a decent pair of headphones with a budget of around $150. I have some chosen that I've found through research that I want opinions on but feel free to suggest your own ideas. I'd be mainly using them for gaming but I listen to music a decent amount too.
Headphones-
Philips SHP9500: $74.99
Audio-Technica ATH-M40x: $99.00
Audio-Technica ATH-M30x: $69.00
Sennheiser HD350BT: $99.95
Sennheiser HD 450BT: $149.95
Headsets- Most people say to not get "gaming headsets" but they seemed like a good "bang for you buck" option since I won't have to buy a mic.
Logitech G633: $58.99
Steel Series Arctis 7: $149.99
Microphones- I've seen the V-Moda BoomPro recommended a decent amount. How does it compare to getting a separate stand alone mic? Also, is something like this a good idea for a mic? I know Blue Yetis are popular but I can't justify spending $149 on a mic.
Thanks for the help.

So this question has many answers to it. The one major thing I will agree is that it’s best to try it to see if you love it enough to invest serious money into it. So I would advice and recommend that you get a free/lite version of DAW or a trial of a full one and buy three things: a pair of headphones, an audio interface, and a microphone.
Here’s what I recommend for the setup:
Microphone: Samson Condenser Microphone (SAM C01) - This is the only microphone at this price range that I can vouch for as it is severely underpriced.
Audio-Technica AT2020 - awesome microphone, was my first and what a beauty.
Blue Ember - solid choice, nice and crispy.
AKG P120 - I own 4 of these. Love them.
Interface:
Focusrite Scarlett Solo (3rd Gen) - underpriced. This is just a beastly.
Presonus Studio 2|4 - solid choice.
Native Instruments Audio 1 - solid choice.
Rode A-1 - this one is bananas. Rode’a first interface and does it deliver.
Headphones: Audio-Technica M40x - I own 4 of these. Just pure awesome.
Audio-Technica M50x - I own 2. Use them everyday. I couldn’t mix without these.
AKG K240 - damn solid choice.
Sony MDR7506 - Studio Classic. Nothing says pro studio like these.
Hope this helps.
Gatz
