$80 only gets you the Audio-Technica AT-LP60X which is decent enough to start with for the lowest budget.
Consider saving up for a better turntable or used vintage for $125 to $200. What is a nearby town or zip we can search for used for you? Good new turntables start a $250.
Do you already have speakers? Which model?

They won't destroy records, but they'll sound awful. As in really darn terrible. I strongly would not recommend getting either of those (they're actually the same cheap Chinese mechanism, just in different bodies).
In the same budget, you can get this which is a decent turntable.

Audio Technica AT-LP60X would be the best bang for your buck. Under $100 and you if you find some unique records, you can convert them to mp3. & its comes with a built in pre amp. from what ive noticed, reason why most turntables start getting expensive is because you have someone upgrading/presetting the turntable. If you get this, you would have to set up the cartridge and such. but, if you just want something for playback and cheap. id go for this one kuz you still have to buy the rest of the gear. link attached:

For a slightly higher price than that but not absurd amount -

I am nervous about a used turntable. I do like the automatic features of this one. So I think I might go with this Audio Technica from Amazon and get the Boston Acoustics shelf speakers from craigslist if that is a good price for those.
Last thing would just be a new receiver. Are there any new ones for that set up for under $100 you know of?

Thank you so much for all this information! I think the record player I was planning on purchasing is the same one you recommended, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N3XJ66N/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_S5eSEbN87Z2B8
Also, can you clarify the difference between "(2xLP, Album, Dlx)" and "(2xLP, Album, Gat)"? Discogs has both of these listed and I don't know which one to purchase, I want to make sure the vinyl is compatible with my record player.

They actually replaced the LP60 with the LP60X, and you can get that for $100.
1 points • ChickenSalad96
The LP60X is a decent table for that price. Any cheaper and you're buying him a toy.

This is the cheapest player that won’t chew your albums up
It’s not a bad little player if you’re just starting to mess around with vinyl.
If you plan on buying a lot more records, the step up is the AT LP120 which is the player I use. That’s about 280 dollars.
Those suitcase players are nothing but trouble though. Worlds is unfortunately not one of the best sounding records out there, probably the worst in my entire collection. So if you don’t plan on buying more records maybe stick with the unit you’ve got and chance it. Worlds isn’t really going to retain its value with how poor it sounds I don’t think.
Hopefully Porter or his label decides to repress it in the future, remastered and pressed at a quality pressing facility.
Happy listening!

If you're not that into vinyl overall, the lowest-cost turntable that will work for a few years and not damage your records is the Audio Technica LP60X. This is the bare minimum for turntables -- it is not upgradeable. There are two other versions -- one with an integrated headphone amplifier, another with USB-out. All three will need external speakers (or headphones).
If you decide you do want to persue vinyl as a hobby, there's a TON of resources here to pick another casual/entry-level turntable. If you're techy/handy at all, used is a good option for many people. Check the weekly question thread for help with all that.

The Audiotechnica LP60 would be good if you're newer.

The AT-LP60 has been replaced with the new, improved AT-LP60X which is currently $99 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N3XJ66N

Trust me, you’re gonna want a better turntable to get the best sound out of those. Here’s one I’d recommend.

People are gonna hang me for this, but the AT-LP60X-BK is what I would consider to be the best entry level turntable. You can adjust the weight of the pretty decent stylus and its built pretty well. If you're willing to soak up some knowledge online, getting an old school direct drive turntable is a great option too.

That looks like the same as a Crosley. Those kinds of turntables can actually damage your records. I'd suggest investing a bit more into one in the $100 range. Here's the lp60: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N3XJ66N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JXiyEbREF6TTZ
And here's the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015HOFZI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_oUiyEbD4WY9W9
These aren't the best ones out there by far, but they should not hurt the records. I think a lot of people go with the Crosley (including two of my friends) but it's really not the best option.

https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP60X-BK-Belt-Drive-Hi-Fidelity-Anti-Resonance/dp/B07N3XJ66N/ref=sr_1_2 this one is a very affordable intro level record player.

whooops sorry to keep you guys holding, I went to bed after I post this thread.
It's indeed a very basic setup (I'm an amateur audiophile, I guess?) Some Edifier speakers , an Audio-Technica AT-LP60X along with a bedside round lamp AUKEY Bedside Lamp
Gorgeous effects and I'm enjoying everybit of it. It's a huge aesthetic upgrade for my room too! Thanks for the positive comment guys!

My friend recently came to me wanting to buy record player and, being that I've been into vinyl for a while, asked for some entry level advice. I had him purchase the ATH-LP60x and a pair of Klipsch R-41PMs (I have a set of passive speakers and a high quality receiver, but he wanted the simplest setup possible). He set it all up and it sounds *great* so far, but the max volume is...not very loud at all. The speakers have a preamp and an amplifier in them, and I know the LP60 has a built in preamp as well. I've tried setting the switches on both devices to line (using the table's preamp) and to phono (using the speaker preamp) and it is not changing the volume ceiling at all.
Any ideas? These speakers should be able to fully power a non-preamp table, so I'm really clueless as to why I can't get it louder.

Nice, although a piece of advice: if you actually care about your records, toss the Victoria. At the cheap end, get a AT-LP-60, and if you can afford to spend a tad bit more, a AT-LP-120. The Victoria will scratch, warp and damage your records, as well as the fact is sounds horrible. If its there for show, then okay, it looks nice, but otherwise, consider upgrading.

Hi! I had a look and wanted to know what is the difference between the turntable you listed and the one Amazon has that is supposed to be a newer model? https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP60X-BK-Belt-Drive-Hi-Fidelity-Anti-Resonance-dp-B07N3XJ66N/dp/B07N3XJ66N/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

Great present! But please, when you can, get a different player. Those suitcase players are known for being horrible and some scratch your records! Heres my recommended pick:

Tl;dr Spent $340 for a complete set up that should have costed me ~$700 and I’m cheesing listening to Nas’ Illmatic

I have a heavy suspicion it's the needle, tone arm, etc. that's causing this rather than a mispress occuring on so much new music.
Considering you're entirely forthcoming by saying "my player sucks" because trust me some people come in here fighting tooth and nail for their crosleys, I would almost guarantee if you would save for a simple audio technica or spend a small amount extra and get a nice standard direct drive table that would probably last the rest of your life, you'd solve this issue and basically re-experience your entire collection over again with the sound difference.
1 points • 101gabed
It’s an Audio Technica LP 120 . I upgraded the needle and cartridge from the AT95E Model (The standard that it comes with) to the Orotofon 2M Blue. I love my setup and it sounds amazing, but it’s pretty pricey when you look at it all at once. All the upgrades I did were over the course of several years.
For people getting into the hobby, I would highly recommend the Audio Technica LP 60 which is a great beginners turntable! Audio Technica makes super high quality products. I’ve had my turntable for three years and it still holds up great. For speakers, get your hands on a pair of powered ones and you’ll be good to go!
1 points • Speedogomer
I started with an Audio Technica LP-60. It's a fine beginner turntable, and for a beginner will sound nice. You'll probably want a new turntable though if you really get into the hobby. The tonearm is fixed and the cartridge is not able to be upgraded.
Skip the bluetooth model though, I see no reason to ever have a bluetooth model record player. Get the regular LP60 which is one sale now for $80.
You could skip the power PB42x and get the regular Micca MB42X for $64.
Leaves you room for an amp like the SMSL sa300 if it comes back in stock soon.

Depends what your price range is my friend, here are a few.

I'd like to preface this by saying I have not used any of these machines. They do get fairly good reception and are considered good for a majority of people.

Hello everyone,
I am brand new to vinyls, and I was wondering if I could get some help on setting up my turntable. These are the following products that I bought:
Essentially, I attached the record player to the amplifier --> used the speaker wire to connect the back of the amplifier to each speaker (+ to + and - to -). I checked all connections and they are securely fastened, and I've tried to several times different lengths of wire. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? I can also provide pictures if necessary. I have heard that maybe the amplifier I have cannot power two speakers, but this seems hard to believe.
1 points • cherryz3
Wow. Amp, phono, cd, and speakers. That's a lot of action for your budget. Put the tape aside for a moment as you will probably need to go used to find a cassette player these days. Take a look at this Marantz almost all in one:
The turntable is an area where you can burn a lot of money fast but if his ear is not too demanding, the Audio Technica LP60 has brought thousands back to vinyl and does a decent job. If this hobby goes crazy, that may need an upgrade in the future.
https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP60X-BK-Belt-Drive-Hi-Fidelity-Anti-Resonance/dp/B07N3XJ66N/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&aaxitk=1kT4693PHJjauODfFMuyeA&hsa_cr_id=6179323140301&ref_=sb_s_sparkle $79 for now on special.
Now that leaves $270 for the speakers; the most important ingredient and the component that will make or break the experience. Blow it all on a good book shelf option. That much money will not get you much good bass in my opinion but others may have some good ideas. I would strongly recommend the Paradigm Monitor SE Atom two way speakers now at $238 which are incredibly good but will lack the low end. They sound great with a Dayton Audio SUB800 but that will put you $60 over budget but would be right at home in that size room and maybe get you in room response to 37hz or so. https://www.amazon.com/Paradigm-Monitor-Bookshelf-Speaker-Matte/dp/B07LB5TY6T/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=monitor+atom&qid=1584236321&sr=8-1
https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-800-8-80-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-627
Another well reviewed speaker is the NHT Super One. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LJX4HCY/ref=psdc_3236451011_t1_B019PZ95J2
A pair of these would be a very nice option at $200 and would really mate well with the sub above. Good luck to you.

this is fault affordable and it's what I'm using as a starter turntable. I got an amp for about $100, and there are speakers on Amazon for 50ish bucks. Not the best but for a start it's a decent setup
