They do have a cheaper version, though I hear the voice quality isn't as good.

Ofc. It's literally called modmic lol. You just add it to the side of the driver and that's it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YN25KWN/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_7edQEbW7HW87B

Hi! Yeah it was the Antlion ModMic, I don't remember exactly which model it was but they all seem pretty similar.

The other combination I am thinking about is wireless earbuds (maybe Jabras?) and using the Wired ModMic since it is a little smaller/lighter and I don't mind not having the microphone be wired.

I'd use the earphones for both exericse (gym/running) and home entertainment (gaming). I expect I'd have some delay to put up with for gaming, but would tolerate it.

There are tons of them on Amazon, but personally I use this one. Basically it's a separate mic that you can attach to any headset.

I have the DT 770 pros and a mod mic. I love the mod mic. It has all the advantages of a built in mic without the disadvantages. The quality of the midmic is fantastic. I can take it off if I want to listen to music. I can put it on other headphones. And the best of all, I can upgrade/replace either the mic or the headphones independently. And this would put you right at your $150 budget.

If you want to get the higher ohm version of the headphones you'll need an amp. But if not you'll be able to plug the mic and your headphones right in your PC (but check your sound card first).

Antlion Modmic should work great:

There is also a wireless version for $99.

Yes, because it a 3.5mm jack for the headphones and mic, so you need a mic port and headphone port. If you're on a console you need a splitter that support mic in and headphone out, not two headphones.

Yes and no. From experience, turtle beach always make improvements with their new gen products. However, the plastic they use is crap and breaks way too fast.

I'm currently using a very high end pair of headphones with the setup mentioned by SydeWynda below.

I refrained from mentioning it since you preferred to have controls on your headset, rather than on screen. If you follow the below setup, you can only mute your mic, and the rest is controlled within the mini dash.

Using the mic they suggested, or honestly any clip-on mic with a mute toggle, will capture your voice regardless of how quiet you are.

That's my mic.

Mod mic ($50 one) can be attached and removed from any headset with clever magnetic thingy. Very good audio quality too. Not sure if you had any budget in mind for it and if $50 fits.

A step above the mics you find built into headsets. Great for communicating in games, attaches to any over-ear headphones.

If you already have good headphones, what I think a lot of folks do is add something like a modmic. I'm sure there are other or cheaper alternatives. I don't have any suggestions for an actual desktop microphone, however, I know the "Blue Snowball" is often recommended

Such a thing would, if it existed, would probably be Bluetooth.

On the microphone end would be a transmitter, on the headphone end would be a receiver.

Both would require power and a method to connect/control them.

A better solution might be a mic on your headphones.

They make add on mics for headphones; https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-Attachable-Noise-Cancelling-Playstation/dp/B07YN25KWN

Open or closed back? The difference is; “Open-back headphones are designed so that the outer shell of the ear covering is perforated in some fashion, typically with horizontal cutouts. Closed-back headphones have a solid outer shell with no perforations of any sort such that the shell effectively cups the entire ear”

To paraphrase open back audio leaks(others can hear depending on volume). (Imo) better audio localization during FPS games. Good for surround sound feature.

Closed back; similar to skull candy in a sense your voice gets muffled when you talk (best description I can think of) sound barely escapes and depending on the pads u can’t hear anything not even ur voice.

It’s just preference neither are good or bad, I prefer open though.

Open back: Sennheiser HD 599 SE Around Ear Open Back Headphone https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RFNZYJZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CbKwFb5FSNXXP

That’s what I personally use, got it for ~$80 which is a pretty damn good deal. New for $200~ is still worth imo but u could look on the subreddit markets for a good deal.

Closed back: Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones, Black, Professional Grade, Critically Acclaimed, With Detachable Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVLUR86/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AeKwFbWK3692B

Solid reviews for closed back around that price range. Never personally used it, but the research shows it’s good.

Do you also want a mic? If so; Antlion Audio ModMic Uni Attachable Noise-Cancelling Microphone with Mute Switch Compatible with Mac, Windows PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YN25KWN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PgKwFbX7AXZS2

Good mic, better than most gaming combo headphones with mic imo. Can be attached to the headphones of your choice.

These are the bang for the buck IMO. There is possibly better ones out there for a higher price but I personally don’t find any use for them. If you want to get more out of these headphones if you decide to buy em. Check out GSX 1000, got it for ~$100 used and it’s the best ~$100 I spent all year tbh. Makes my headphones worth far more than they are. So I would recommend investing in good headphones that won’t rip through your budget and combining it with something like the gsx 1000.

It feels like Xbox and Sony are taking back the benefits of the mixer amps or dac that higher end gaming headsets provided.

I suspect any headset will work with the next gen, so find a comfy nice headset - seinhaisser or studio monitor - and go to town.

You may need a headset mic designed for that purpose (example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YN25KWN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_BiySFbXCRPS28)

I am looking at these and the above mic: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YN25KWN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_BiySFbXCRPS28

I've found the easiest is to use something like this plugged straight into your controller. That way you can use your Beyerdynamics and an external mic as a headset. This cheap mic is pretty commonly recommended, but I've had one break on me. The Antlion Modmic is pretty spendy but is supposed to be awesome. I'm actually planning on getting one soon. And if you're not using Xbox Live voice chat then just plug your headphones straight into the controller! My experience with 'gamer' headsets is pretty limited but from experience using high quality headphones is by far the best experience.

This is the best versatile one I’ve found on amazon but they keep redesigning it I’ve seen they stick onto the headset and they detach from a base but you can look around for better stuff audiotechnica makes a mod mic too but it’s $80

Assuming you don't need a proper microphone. Most people would be best serviced by get a proper $150-200 pair of phones then adding a modmic

A lot of people are here recommending non “gaming” headphones which I agree with. A lot of them tend to be much gaming headphones then “gaming” headphones and infinitely better at everything else.

The problem is non of those have mics which are important. There are a few solutions to that. You can have a usb mic on your desktop like this.
If your headphone of choose has a 3.5mm cable detachable at the headphone you can go with a vmoda boom pro. One of my personal favorite solutions while a bit pricey is the antlion mod mic. Since everybody is using zoom nowadays you can also use the microphone off of a webcam.

Edit: One more thing you can use is a microphone which clips to your shirt called a lavalier mic.

Honestly, if you buy this complete setup, buy the He4xx instead of the HD58x.

You’ll also need RCA cables, an a optical cable, and a USB cable. It’ll say in the links.

One of the most affordable and better setups if you have the mixamp. And that's over Astro's, TB's and HyperX's.

i found this, i think this will work

https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-Attachable-Noise-Cancelling-Playstation/dp/B07YN25KWN

you do end up having an extra wire though...

or if you've got the money, here is a wireless mic

https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-Attachable-Microphone-Headphones/dp/B07KQF165L

i prefer wired just knowing that I wont forget to charge up whatever it is that needs charging...

but the good thing is headphone wiring can go to amp and microphone is USB

take it from a person that has had 7 total pairs of razer headphones; don't get razer headphones. Get some proper headphones. the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro headphones are a good place to start of you want open back and the 770s are a good place to start if you want closed back. if you need a mic, the Antlion ModMic is a good choice. if you want to plug it into your controller you're going to need something like this. may i also recommend a nice headphone amp if you want this to be really nice, the Schiit Fulla or Schiit Hel are two great headphone amplifiers. if you prefer a more audiophile oriented setup, the Schiit Modi DAC and Schiit Magni Headphone Amp are great choices. do note that if you went the Modi and Magni route, you would need both to get the best audio quality.

Headphone junkie here. I've got everything from SHP9500 all the way up to Senn 800s and about 20 grand in headphones and amps/dacs.

Depends on your total budget and what type of games you play.

If you play a lot of FPS I highly recommend a decent pair of OPEN back cans as they will typically give you a wider "sound stage".

HERE is a decent discussion about sound stage.

For $120 and if gaming is the priority (over listening to music) you will probably do better

A lot of gamers would do well with the ATH-AD700X or the SHP9500

NOTE: you will have to either have a desk mic or use a mod mic for the AD700x or a VModa Boom for the SHP9500

OK I'll probably get a lot of shit for saying the following from /r/HeadPhoneAdvice but do NOT get the Sivga SV 007. WHY? Number one is they are built like shit and if you look up reviews there is a loooooooong list of complaints of how shitty their build quality is. I bought these and they broke after 3 months. Do they sound good? Yup, but their ear cups were super tiny and was for me uncomfortable after a couple of hours. But who cares how they sound if the quality control sucks?

Looking out for my BaPCbros
