I buy the Anker 5-1 for my whole company. Doesn't sit flush like that but it also only uses 1 usb-c port. Enet, USB, hdmi, but no power pass through. Never had a problem

Here's my shortlist of accessories/apps that I always use with Macs:

1) A Bluetooth wireless mouse. While I absolutely love Apple's trackpads, they can be a little cumbersome when you have several screens attached. I personally use a Logitech MX Anywhere 2s due to its compact form and extreme versatility through software, though you don't have to use this mouse specifically.

2) A laptop sleeve of some sort. I currently use a MOSISO laptop sleeve for my MacBook Pro, and it works great! I've also heard pretty good things about Tomtoc sleeves as well.

3) A USB-C expansion hub of some sort. There's a lot of personal taste here, but I usually go for Anker products 9 times out of 10. I use this five-in-one hub currently and it's not given me any issues yet!

4) A USB-C flash drive. Let's face it, we all need to transfer files to a different machine from time to time. It's for this reason that I use this SanDisk USB-C to USB-A flash drive, since it allows me to connect to my Mac and then to a standard Windows desktop without having to fiddle with adapters.

Now, onto apps (I'll designate apps that have to be paid with a $):

  • AppCleaner (to uninstall apps and make certain that all miscellaneous files are properly deleted)

  • Itsycal (a menubar app that allows you to see your calendar at a glance, along with making quick entries without having to open the Calendar app).

  • Magnet (allows you to snap application windows similar to how you can on Windows 10) $

  • Cheatsheet (allows you to see all the key combinations for an app by holding the command button)

  • Horo (a simple timer app, since macOS bafflingly still doesn't have a built in one)

  • How Long Left (a simple app that tells you how much time is remaining until your next calendar event, and how much time is left in an event once it starts)

  • Dozer (allows you hide menubar apps that you don't always need to see)

  • Keka (allows you to archive and unzip files)

  • Turbo Boost Switcher Pro (this app allows you to toggle Turbo Boost on your CPU, which is an Intel technology that allows your CPU to give itself a speed boost should you have the thermal headroom to do so. Turning this off while you're not plugged into a wall socket allows your machine to stay cool and can even give you a little more battery uptime to boot!) $

  • 1Password (while you don't have to use 1Password specifically, I highly recommend getting a password manager beyond Apple's Keychain. I use 1Password in particular because it's a nice piece of software that keeps all of my private passwords, bank information etc safe and secure. It's cross platform as well, which is nice!) $

  • Wipr (if you happen to use Safari, you'll need an ad blocker. Wipr works pretty well, though not as good as the legendary uBlock Origin) $

  • Amphetamine (allows you to keep your Mac's screen from going to sleep)

  • IINA (a super clean media player)

  • Clicker for Netflix, Disney+ etc (great apps for watching your streaming service of choice. They almost feel like the apps from iOS!) $

I use the Stay/Go by twelve south when the iPad is at my desk with a long usb c cable. And on the road I use this one from Anker.

The magnet one was nice but didn’t work with the magic keyboard like you said.

Sorry if it is a mobile link but I have the bigger one of this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X8ZLYLR/

This one is $33 (there's an option for 10% off coupon but I don't know how that works), the one I have is really really good. Super solid design, good strain relief on the cable ends, reliable, the bigger one has a USB C Input as well for charging, but it's only super helpful on the surface pro imo.

I got mine because all my classes went online so I have 100+ hours connected to a screen. This one looks nicer, mine has a half plastic body and plain rubber cord, versus the solid aluminum (it looks like it) body and braided cable.

The sleeve it comes with is convenient, it's good for holding the cable so it doesn't flop around when you're not using it

Also I have a 60w USB C charger I use for mine, also for gaming, max power draw and displaying to TV in 2K and mouse + cooling fan plugged into it and it's barely warm. SB2 is higher power but I don't think you're going to charge through it. 4K also no problem.

I would super recommend it

Apparently there are concerns with using the USB-C Power Delivery at the same time as the barrel plug basically frying some components. And I guess USB-C PD won't allow the 2060 to run at full blast? So I opted to just get this hub, which does ethernet, HDMI, and 3 USB ports. Notably, it lacks Power (for me, a good thing), an SD reader (bad), and an audio jack (I don't really care). I'm not sure I made the right choice, but everything seems to be working, even given that I need to plug in 3-4 things on the side of my laptop instead of just 1-2.

Have you seen this one? Just a bit over $30, but only has 3 usb 3.0 ports. I have a hub like this from the same brand that I’m pretty happy with. My only complaint is that it can get pretty hot.

I have done this to play RuneScape with a mouse on mobile

It's pretty neat. You need to download an app though or it won't register the mouse or keyboard. I use octopus (on playstore (not sure about apple, but there are other keymappers a for iOS) for keymapping... Pretty much they have all the buttons set up already

The most played game with octopus IS actually pubg on mobile. This is way more frequent than you think. You really just launch the app through the keymapping app and it works. I believe it's $5 for the full version... I'm not sure if you need it for pubg... It really doesn't matter what keymapper you use. I just know of Octopus (not advertising)

You'll also need something like this to plug the mouse and keyboard in

It's all honestly pretty simple but I don't like it for RuneScape because the right click doesn't work so you still gotta long hold left click to get a right click... Kinda defeats the purpose. But for pubg its neat.

Yep.. it's an Ethernet jack.. Probably what is most commonly called a dock. They'll have more than just USB ports. Usually video (HDMI, DisplayPort), Ethernet, sometimes a micro/SD card interface, maybe audio jacks.

Anker makes a few good ones. Scroll down to see a comparison of several.

I just bought this to start using Dex mode. It's really nice and very well made. It has an HDMI port, 3 usb 3.0 ports, ethernet port, metal body, etc. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Congratulations Lenovo for inventing yet another slightly fucked up port.

No worries, it'll work just fine with any USB C port -- it's just 5gbps USB instead of 10gbps USB.

So: 3440 x 1440 @ 60Hz + USB 3.0 is a go, 3440 x 1440 @ 120Hz + USB 2.0 is also a go.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X8ZLYLR/ if it's only 60Hz.

I have an older version of this.

Anker USB C Hub [Upgraded], 5-in-1 USB C Adapter with 4K USB C to HDMI, Ethernet Port, 3 USB 3.0 Ports, for MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, XPS, Pixelbook, and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X8ZLYLR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_vUwWEbYXAQ6RW

It gets fairly warm with just Ethernet and a external drive plug in.

You can get this if you’re looking for PD.

VAVA USB C Hub, 8-in-1 USB C Adapter with 4K HDMI, 1Gbps RJ45 Ethernet Port, USB 3.0, SD/TF Card Reader, 100W PD Charging Port for MacBook/Pro/Air and Type C Windows Laptops https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QQ11BP6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wWwWEbK3RGATD

I’m using a cooler master slim cooling pad. Really, any will work the same.

The main thing to find out is if your USB-C port on your phone supports using it for video out, and not just for charging/data. If is does you could connect to a display with a USB C to HDMI adapter. In addition:

Bluetooth keyboards like the Logitech K480 is a good choice in my opinion will work as keyboards in Android - any app including Gmail, Docs, Office, etc. will work fine. The Logitech K400 Plus is both a keyboard and a touchpad if you don't want to get a separate mouse, but it's not Bluetooth it has a USB-A dongle. Grab a home screen like Taskbar when you connect to a display. You can pick up a little dongle like this Anker USB-C hub which has USB-A ports (if you're not doing bluetooth) and HDMI out which you can send to a monitor.

Far as I can tell, both Google Docs and Microsoft Office support common keyboard combinations like CTRL+C, CTRL+V, CTRL+B for bold, etc.

You may run into two issues with apps:

  1. Some apps are locked to a specific screen orientation. If the app developer has set the app to work in Portrait mode only (only if their landscape mode looks terrible) you're not going to have a good time with that app.
  2. The mouse scroll wheel automatically gets translated to scrolling on Android like you would with your finger, but some apps will scroll backwards instead of how you expect.

I know this is a little old, but can you explain your setup? I think I have all the same as you, a USB-C to HDMI on the left side (PD port), the USB 3 on the right side, and the 2 cameras connected to a USB-C hub with 3.0 ports.

I set all of SteamVR and Oculus to use the NVIDIA processor, but I still don't get any video on the headset. Are there specific processes that should only be on the dGPU and others on the iGPU?

I'm trying to use either of these adapters:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07THJGZ9Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X8ZLYLR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Side note: I can play VR fine when I use my fiance's Apple USB-C 3 port hub for his Macbook. It has HDMI, USB-C with power, and USB 3.0... I can play perfectly fine with that, but all other USB-C to HDMI adapters I've used have this problem.

What kind of 4k does u want to consume? (this one) said thunderbolt compatible and only stream 4k @ 30fps. It is bad. (this one) has 60fps. It is what normally should be. Consider this. Cheaper than Lenovo overpriced one. Or buy a hub if you want to spend more. Like this one.
