I dont know much about the WD15, but if it has a thunderbolt 3 port, you can use a thunderbolt 3 to HDMI 2.0 adapter to get 60hz on the TV. Make sure to set the TV to a "PC" mode. Also can use the thunderbolt 3 on the 9550.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Aluminum-Pixelbook-Compatible-Thunderbolt/dp/B07THJGZ9Z

You could try an adapter usb-c to hdmi

You need a dongle. eg, https://amzn.com/dp/B07THJGZ9Z

No. You need a a CPU, RAM, and a GPU at a minimum, along with software to decode the encoded video. If you have a smartphone you might be able to use that, along with something like this.

Attaching a USB stick directly in to an AV cable is about as useful as plugging headphones in to a banana.

No, that adapter you linked will not work!

Surface Book 2 does not have mini Display Port, it has USB-C with alt Video output.

So you need something like this to use HDMI connection.

What's a dongle with PWD pass through? The dongle I'm using is this anker one. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Aluminum-Pixelbook-Compatible-Thunderbolt/dp/B07THJGZ9Z/ref=pd_lpo_147_t_0/130-0338788-5293876?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07THJGZ9Z&pd_rd_r=14aadcd0-c37b-47c5-b3c3-839dbb5c3156&pd_rd_w=41E9u&pd_rd_wg=F38FJ&pf_rd_p=7b36d496-f366-4631-94d3-61b87b52511b&pf_rd_r=BRQTZYGTQEYTY7K4A2MS&psc=1&refRID=BRQTZYGTQEYTY7K4A2MS

Thanks. I found this one which isn't too expensive, and I'll probably end up getting it because it will be nice to have anyway.

If you're using the built in HDMI port you might get worse performance since its tied to the IGPU. The usb c port with Display Port is directly linked to the rtx 2060 and will yield better performance.

In my case I got this usb c to hdmi 2.0 adapter for my vive and it has been working flawlessly.

Also have in mind that you can use apps like MSI Afterburner to squeeze a bit more performance out of the 2060 which never hurts.

>USB-C monitor

That's your problem. Those monitors are, essentially without exception, designed for portability. You're not finding models with line-out ports because no one is going to carry around a monitor with speakers dangling from the back of it. If this display is going to live in one spot, you'll have far better luck shopping for standard monitors and using something like this to connect your MacBook to it.

You do not want a display port to HDMI adapter. What you need is a USB-C to HDMI adapter. Something like this should work: Anker USBC-HDMI

r/ZephyrusG14 • comment
1 points • wag3slav3

You answered the question with "via the HDMI port." There's some known issues with the HDMI port and the panel. If you have a USBC input on your monitor try that, if not try this.

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Aluminum-Pixelbook-Compatible-Thunderbolt/dp/B07THJGZ9Z

Any USB C to HDMI cable that supports USBC Alt mode will work. Do not use a docking station/usbc hub thing as it will not be running off the direct pins (USBCALT) but does some janky connection sharing.

You just need a usb-c display adapter, something like this:

Anker USB C to HDMI Adapter, Aluminum Portable USB C Adapter, Supports 4K 60Hz, for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, Pixelbook, XPS, Galaxy, and More [Compatible with Thunderbolt 3 ports] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07THJGZ9Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6G3KFbT9P2MQJ

You can also get them with USB-A ports, card readers, etc, if you’d like a mini docking station type setup.

USB-C to HDMI: 4k @60hz - Onboard = 60hz, Discrete = 30hz

XPS 17 9700 w/discrete RTX 2060. Anker USB-C to HDMI adapter.

Disable Discrete GPU in bios: Able to achieve 4k@60hz with Intel on board video.

Enable Discrete GPU in bios: Maximum 4k@30hz. Any higher and it reverts to 30hz

Has anyone else experienced NVIDIA discrete graphics unable to achieve 4k@60hz, when onboard video can?

Note: Drivers have been updated, Windows is up to date.

tl;dr WD15 won't work for 4K 60Hz at all, look at USB-C to HDMI2.0 adapter or ~50$ USB-C-only dock with HDMI2.0 + USB2, or you will have to buy a TB3 dock (Dell TB16, Dell WD19TB 180w are compatible with 130w charging on your laptop).

Dell WD15 is 2 lanes for video USB-C-only dock; it will provide 50% of DP1.2 bandwidth + USB3, it doesn't even advertise HDMI2.0 (manual states HDMI1.4 - see here). Therefore, not enough for 4K 60Hz at all (HDMI or miniDP doesn't matter), only something like 2560x1440 60Hz or 4K 30Hz. The explanation why USB-C docks make you choose between half DP bandwidth + USB3 vs. full DP bandwidth + USB2 here. Oddly enough, the newer WD19 (not WD19TB) is also 2 lanes for video and won't be enough for 4K 60Hz on DP1.2/HBR2 machines like 9550.

You can use active USB-C to HDMI2.0 adapter, or if you need a dock - ~50$ USB-C-only dock with HDMI2.0 + USB2.

Thunderbolt 3 docks can provide 4K 60Hz + USB3 via a single TB3 cable. Still, they cost significantly more (Dell WD19TB is the current TB3 dock from Dell, but it's newer than your laptop, and Dell doesn't include 9550 in the current recommended list anymore; unofficially it should work, there is also an older dock with somewhat more complaints - Dell TB16).

Look up pretty much any on Amazon that work with a MacBook pro. This was the exact solution I used, but I got a hub instead of just the adaptor for more ports, including a charging port.

Link to one I used, but don't own:

Link to the one I own (currently way more expensive than I paid, I'd personally look at another adapter.) :

I'm using the following:

  • QGeeM hub: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QXMNF1X/
  • USB C extension Cable for the Hub: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K5S2116
  • Anker USB C to HDMI: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07THJGZ9Z

I regret getting the QGeem though, and have heard better things about the Aukey hub. For the most part it has worked, with occasional problems (very occasionally have to cycle power to it). I've had a lot more problems with it with my Macbook though. However, the problems are isolated to the first time I plug it in, and I've noticed it seems to act up more often when switching from plugging it into my macbook to my pixelbook and vice-versa -- like it has some sort of state. Originally I used the OneByOne hub (no longer sold), which almost never worked right with my Pixelbook but almost always worked with my Macbook.

You need a Thunderbolt 3 to HDMI adapter. The official Apple one can be found here. But other cheaper options can be found on Amazon and other places. Example.

I've bought DisplayPort, mini-DP, and USB A-to-C cables from Cable Matters, and they all have performed perfectly well. If I were buying for myself, I probably would opt for theirs over a brand I've never heard of. There's also a dongle from Anker that looks good.

I had this same exact issue but was also having issues with the resolution. For the past few days I have been trying different USB-C adapters and HDMI cables on mine and I just finally got my three devices working right: desktop with GeForce 960 (yes I plan to upgrade this soon but it has HDMI 2.0 at least for now), MacBook Pro 13 inch (2018), and a Latitude 5400 with USB-C.

In the end the only cables that worked for me were:

-Desktop connected via HDMI and running at 5120x1400 60 Hz and HDR — https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084RFQPSP/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_BYKgFbRZGXD22

-MacBook Pro connected via USB-C to DisplayPort cable running at 5120x1400 120 Hz (not scaled with Big Sur beta) and HDR — https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XTYKLNJ/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_vXKgFbVGWJG2V

-Latitude 5400 via same USB-C to DisplayPort cable running at 5120x1400 60 Hz and HDR — Same USB-C to DisplayPort cable

Edits:

These adapters never let me get above 3480x1440 and did not work with HDR

I also upgraded my firmware to v1004 and panicked when it wouldn’t turn back on or light up the power LED after. I think it was an issue with having cables plugged into it still. It didn’t come back to life until I unplugged everything from it and let sit for a few seconds before reconnecting.

The main thing to find out is if your USB-C port on your phone supports using it for video out, and not just for charging/data. If is does you could connect to a display with a USB C to HDMI adapter. In addition:

Bluetooth keyboards like the Logitech K480 is a good choice in my opinion will work as keyboards in Android - any app including Gmail, Docs, Office, etc. will work fine. The Logitech K400 Plus is both a keyboard and a touchpad if you don't want to get a separate mouse, but it's not Bluetooth it has a USB-A dongle. Grab a home screen like Taskbar when you connect to a display. You can pick up a little dongle like this Anker USB-C hub which has USB-A ports (if you're not doing bluetooth) and HDMI out which you can send to a monitor.

Far as I can tell, both Google Docs and Microsoft Office support common keyboard combinations like CTRL+C, CTRL+V, CTRL+B for bold, etc.

You may run into two issues with apps:

  1. Some apps are locked to a specific screen orientation. If the app developer has set the app to work in Portrait mode only (only if their landscape mode looks terrible) you're not going to have a good time with that app.
  2. The mouse scroll wheel automatically gets translated to scrolling on Android like you would with your finger, but some apps will scroll backwards instead of how you expect.

I have a Samsung phone, and I use this. It's just a connector that allows you to connect your phone to an HDMI, and it automatically mirrors your screen onto your TV.

Before I had that connector, I just used the "Smart View" thing that's built into Samsung phones. You just swipe down and it's a button you can press. A lot of TVs have some sort of casting app that you go to, but I connected it to a Google Chrome cast. I had to stop doing that though because my phone has some weird error where the sound is "jittery" as long as Wi-Fi is on; It's bizarre. I should just get a new phone but my phone is not that old. It was top of the line two years ago, and new phones are so expensive. It works just like it did when it was new, it just has always had a few unusual things.

Couple of notes about using a connector, if you're considering getting one: Make sure your phone can actually use it, obviously. Also, when I disconnect my phone, it seems like the frame rate of everything on it is slightly lower until I restart the phone. Just the tiniest bit jittery. Don't know what that's about, but it's a minor inconvenience at worst. Also, one time, it seemed like the connector stopped working, and I restarted my phone, TV, etc, and it didn't work again until I unplugged the TV, held the power button on the TV for a bit and released it (while unplugged), and plugged it back in. Don't know what that was about either.

If both of your monitors have HDMI, then you basically have 2 options.

  1. Purchase a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 to dual HDMI adapter. However, beware that some of these style of adapters do not support two separate screens (different images on each screen), they only support mirroring two screens (same image on both screens). So, you have to make sure to get one that supports two separate screens, but on Mac (some support two separate screens, but only on Windows). Here’s a quick example of one that will work for Mac with two separate screens. You can use that adapter in one USB-C port and the charger in the other USB-C port.
  2. You can get 1 USB-C to HDMI Adapter and then 1 USB-C Adapter that includes power pass-through and an HDMI output.

Of course, I would do more research on the specific adapters, hubs, and cables, but the two general methods listed should help guide you in your decision.

Generally most high end gaming laptops will have a mini DisplayPort as well, so you can use that to power your second monitor. I had a MSI laptop until recently that I bought in 2016 which had a HDMI and a miniDP.

If you are sure you don't have a miniDP, you should use a USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI adapter. USB3 hubs won't work here due to technical limitations (it actually uses something called DisplayLink which in non-technical terms is a graphics emulator).

This monitor has DVI and VGA connections: * The blue connector that's not connected there is VGA, which is analog. * The white connector that has the cable connected to it is DVI, which is digital.

To get the best picture quality, you'll want to use the DVI connector for both computers. This is because it's good to maintain the signal type throughout the connection. Because both computers are outputting a digital video signal (via HDMI), if you connect to VGA, you'd end up converting the signal from digital (within the computer) to analog (within the cable) to digital (within the monitor). If you connect over HDMI, then it's digital the entire way. The difference is very apparent, so you'll definitely not want to use VGA.

To get both computers to connect to a single input, you might look at using some kind of HDMI switch.

To connect the HDMI switch to the monitor, you'll need an HDMI to DVI cable.

To connect the MacBook Pro 2014 (Thunderbolt/HDMI) to the HDMI switch, use a normal HDMI cable.

To connect the MacBook Air 2020 (USB-C) to the HDMI switch, use a USB C to HDMI adapter, like this one, or you can use the one Apple makes.

I know this is a little old, but can you explain your setup? I think I have all the same as you, a USB-C to HDMI on the left side (PD port), the USB 3 on the right side, and the 2 cameras connected to a USB-C hub with 3.0 ports.

I set all of SteamVR and Oculus to use the NVIDIA processor, but I still don't get any video on the headset. Are there specific processes that should only be on the dGPU and others on the iGPU?

I'm trying to use either of these adapters:

Side note: I can play VR fine when I use my fiance's Apple USB-C 3 port hub for his Macbook. It has HDMI, USB-C with power, and USB 3.0... I can play perfectly fine with that, but all other USB-C to HDMI adapters I've used have this problem.
