It's just that with a few furniture felt pieces added to elevate it just high enough to clear my monitor stands. I really like that i can tuck cables under-neath it, but since it's mesh there's plenty of airflow.

Due to ergonomics. Had neck pain because of hunching over the laptop so got this nice stand to raise the height of the laptop https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WRDS8H0/?pldnSite=1, but need an external keyboard.

This is what I use for my laptop stand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WRDS8H0/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_vDl-EbJS51RMV. Lenovo Y545.

One thing I started doing is running the laptop with the lid open when connected to an external monitor.

I remember being faced with this question and I ended up going with this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WRDS8H0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_ky2lEb5DA7B7D Just a regular old stand. Laptops nowadays are built to better standards with airflow in mind. So my 2 cents, just get a well ventilated stand.

There’s the link to the laptop stand - I use a MacBook Pro 13” so the fit is spot on. I use this as a stationary setup (probably not the best for a mobile laptop stand). I use the space underneath to store stuff away from sight. Other than that for 20ish bucks it gets the job done.

I’ve got it on a laptop stand from this link and I have it on the 1st level so that it is well ventilated

Right on!! This is verification that I'm on the right track! But yeah the stand is actually based off a "hack" I read somewhere. It's an Amazon laptop stand that has adjustable heights and it's damn near perfect for propping it up. Feels really sturdy if you're looking for a $20 solution :)

See if you can elevate it with some thing that will allow the back to rise so you can get more air under it. I used 2-4 ceramic drink coasters until I got this Amazon Basics Laptop Stand Which works slightly better.

Does your model have Armoury Crate? If so, are you trying the different profiles like Turbo or Silent?

I've been using my Aurous Gaming Box 1070 for my ThinkPad T490(i7-8565u, 16gb ram) without an external monitor, my ThinkPad has TB3 2x lanes rather than TB3 4x lanes. My performance is suffering because I don't have a external monitor running. I play Tekken 7 on max settings and avg 55-60fps, but runs great. On the other hand when I play NFS Heat on high settings for avg 55fps it gets crazy hot, I can't play if without having my laptop on this cheap AmazonBasics Ventilated stand. or two spacers or two small cardboard boxes to keep my laptop evelvated because my laptop has poor ventilation. Just saying my egpu up on r/hardwareswap.

Some points I agree with, most Asus products feel really cheap to me. I previously bought Two Asus laptops for under $300, which didn't survive the wear-down.

However, the Asus Pro Duo definitely has a better build quality in comparison (given it's premium price-range), at least with my experience. I was honestly expecting a major bug or hardware issue with mine, but it's still in mint condition running perfectly.

Side Note: Your laptop should still be under warranty though (mine still is under MyAsus, I didn't even sign up for it), so you can probably get it repaired without hassle.

Addressing your Con #2, I 100% agree with you. The angle of the second screen being so flat-down by default is irritating. However, there's a simple solution; Get a cheap Laptop-Mount. Get one that you can adjust the angle with.
Here's my old Set-Up using an adjustable mount. ^(()^(ignore the object in front of the laptop)^())
As you can see, it gives a better angle of both screens while giving you so much free space in the front.

About your Con #4, I don't have this issue. I'll admit, the fan can ramp up sometimes, but it's honestly way quieter compared to other powerhouse laptops out there. What studio/gaming laptop doesn't have a loud fan? I don't know what you do on yours, but mine only gets a bit loud if I'm running a game or 3D engine during dev sessions.
Even then, there's also a dedicated button to change your fan speed.

Con #5, no defense there. While they're integrating cool features into MyAsus such as screenshare, file-transfers and messaging/phone calls, some of it feels unpolished.
My version of MyAsus tells me I have a BIOS update, but it hasn't installed itself for like a week. Definitely buggy, but they've been making efforts with the feedback community publicly. Still no excuse, but they're taking some action at least.

Honestly though, I'm not saying you're wrong with what you said. You probably got a bad batch, it must have been bad if the back-plate somehow came off.
I had a decent experience with it so far though, and this isn't me sucking up to Asus or being a fanboy. I hated Asus products for a long time, still do in some sense.

I have to admit though, this is the first project I felt Asus landed pretty well. By far not perfect, but it's a new idea and a new step in the right direction.

if you have already cleaned it out so its not dust you can get a stand like this one https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Ventilated-Adjustable-Laptop-Stand/dp/B00WRDS8H0/ but apart form aiming a fan at the side you cant really do to much other then making sure the bottom has room to vent air out.

my laptop still got hot when i used it for gaming via egpu over thunderbolt but it didnt get as hot once i said screw it and just stuck something under the legs to raise it up.

Turns out its $20, sorry: amazonbasics ventilated laptop stand

Also you should have a mini displayport 1.4 port. Not necessary to use it at all, but might help, heres the one I use: displayport cable

Oh dear...yes, I have no thermal throttling that I've noticed. There were a couple of times in maybe 20-30 hours of play where things stuttered for about a second, but it didn't seem to be related to heat. I normally use "Custom" while playing, which is similar to Standard. And always Optimized for my thermal setting.

I'm sure my stand is helping, but I'm not sure how much. It's a very simple metal stand, like this: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Ventilated-Adjustable-Laptop-Stand/dp/B00WRDS8H0/ref=sxin_10_pb?cv_ct_cx=laptop+stand&dchild=1&keywords=laptop+stand&pd_rd_i=B00WRDS8H0&pd_rd_r=8ddb0383-8a58-47a3-ad02-84633aad63e3&pd_rd_w=GgnMt&pd_rd_wg=XDa39&pf_rd_p=3abf4ca9-0055-47ce-8ca5-931fff1d4484&pf_rd_r=MXSGJ9JW015JPRGDPGFT&qid=1597849119&sr=1-2-8065ff8c-2587-4a7f-b8da-1df8b2563c11

I will say that I didn't notice any heat differences between the machine with the drain and the one without. Performance levels were similar as well.

I wonder what would cause such a difference? Do your fans sound the same (i.e. one fan isn't dead)? I don't know much about pasting, but it doesn't seem like a bad paste job would make the surface of the laptop hotter. If you decide to keep the machine, I've heard that turning off turbo (using Throttlestop) just when playing games can help a lot with temps, and doesn't affect FPS too much (assuming your games aren't CPU-bound).

It looks nice! I would recommend getting something like a laptop rising stand or cooling pad for the laptop while it's hooked up to an external monitor.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WRDS8H0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got this myself, cheap and basic (no cooling) but the angle it can go up to is great and makes using the laptop screen even nicer along with the external monitor for a dual screen setup.

When I'm not travelling, my laptop is mostly stationary and connected to monitors, keyboard and mouse. As I'm using an eGPU, only the CPU is ever loaded and no elevation was more or less needed for the three years I've had an eGPU. Occasionally I'd prop the laptop with the book while gaming :)

But a month ago I got myself an AmazonBasics laptop stand to try, had to bend it in a couple of places so that it looks okay and overall it's quite shoddily constructed. But it's not blocking the fans, and overall seems like it made the cooling better during gaming, so I'd recommend it. The elevation, though, is quite dramatic - the laptop screen is at least 2 inches higher even on the lowest stand setting, and the stand protrudes couple inches from the back of the laptop. And you can't use the laptop keyboard because the holders at the bottom block your palms from resting. Here's a photo :)

The 3D printed one on Ebay looks really cool and I would get that if I had a bit more money (kudos to that guy on the subreddit), but I personally am gonna try this one once i also get my One: https://www.amazon.com/DESIGNA-Ventilated-Adjustable-Laptop-Notebook/dp/B0792YFVWZ/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=laptop%2Band%2Bbook%2Bstand&qid=1590072418&sr=8-5&th=1

It's very similar to a cheaper one that I've seen a YouTuber use with his MPC One (i think this one?: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Ventilated-Adjustable-Laptop-Stand/dp/B00WRDS8H0/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=laptop+stand+amazonbasics&qid=1590185920&sr=8-3). Both of them are cool because they also have a 6-cord organizer built into it.

I really just want a stand that is adjustable so I can experiment with different heights but can also go high enough in elevation to hold books at a good angle. Just make sure whatever you get has an angle that feels right for you and also has good rubber feet to prevent slipping when you are drumming and stuff.

😊 Thank you!

So yea it's been a struggle of a process for me as well to find something that wold fit all my gear nicely, and angled as you see, it's a combination of a bunch of stuff, happy to break it down for you.

The main stand where everything sits on is the On-Stage Z stand with the deluxe keyboard tier set as well. And I have an IKEA LACK shelf sitting on the deluxe keyboard tier, and a piece of plywood on the bottom tier so that I can put the Push 2 and the TR-8S there at the moment.

The push sits on a basic laptop stand from Amazon, which is actually great and can be used as a stand for a lot of gear.

The Minilogue-XD sits on a stand by 3D Waves, both the TR-8S and the Volcas with the eventide pedals are on stands from KVgear, They have a lot of good stuff. And finally the AKAI MPK Mini on top sits on another laptop stand

😅Phew, I think that's it. Yea it's hard to find a specific piece that would hold all your gear exactly the way you want it, so I feel like either mix&match or DIY is the way to go.

I also built my main desk by myself, because I couldn't find something that would suit my needs and didn't require a mortgage haha.
