Those of you with Ultrawide Gaming Monitors, How do you like them over traditional multi-monitor setups?

I have a triple monitor setup right now with two 24" monitors and a 22" TV to route audio. I'm looking at potentially replacing this setup with a single Ultrawide monitor like this Alienware one on Amazon. To those that have an Ultrawide, what are pros and cons to your gaming experience versus other tasks? I'm not too worried about G-Sync vs Freesync but just the overall user experience.

Ew. I don't think I could go back to 1080-pixel vertical resolution. I bought this for a data analyst gig and it's wonderful. Monoprice has one at the same resolution for $399, sometimes on sale for $299.

Go with Alienware AW3420DW, I just bought it few weeks ago and it's the best monitor on the market right now. 2ms 1440p curved ultrawide 120hz refresh rate and G-sync support, what more could you ask for?

In my opinion this Alienware 34” 120 Hz ultra wide monitor is the best gaming monitor on the market right now. I bought one for myself a few months ago and it might be the best gaming gift I’ve ever given myself. PoE plays like a dream on it

Could consider the Dell Alienware AW3420DW but I've got the LG GL850 (27", IPS, 1440p, version of the LG 34GN850) and I really like it so far, only complaint is the base is a bit wide for me. Consider getting a monitor arm

Experience returning an unfaulty monitor to Amazon if you open it and try it out for a few days and are unhappy with it?

I'm considering purchasing a 34" 1440p 21:9 ultrawide monitor. I'm torn between the LG 34GN850-B and the Alienware AW3420DW (any recommendations/opinions are appreciated!). The monitor will be used primarily for gaming.

However, I've never used an ultrawide before and I'm not sure how I'll respond to it. I've heard some say they ended up not liking it, as it feels like the top of the screen has been cut off.

In the unfortunate event that I end up strongly disliking the ultrawide monitor, would I be able to return it to Amazon, even if it is not defective? I've heard of others returning monitors because they were unhappy with the color hues, so it seems as though it shouldn't be a problem.

Any tips are much appreciated!

Absolute game-changer, was able to switch from a double monitor setup to this. In my opinion its the perfect mix of gaming, productivity and aesthetics.

Also, I went from 144z to this 120hz and didn't notice any difference. I play dota2, sc2 and a little bit of CS.

These are the top two in this segment, IMO. And at ~$100 more than the 34GK950F, I would choose either of these. For most users I'd recommend the LG 34GN850-B as it is the overall superior display. The Alienware offers a better warranty, and potentially better adaptive-sync performance and motion handling at lower frame rates (I tend to go for the max visual quality possible around 60fps, but I know not everyone does that).

So I recently acquired a 2070 Super that is currently being wasted on a single, 15-year old 1080p 60hz monitor that doesn't even have adaptive sync. Since my rig probably can't handle the Samsung Odyssey G9 and it seems to have been recalled for now anyway, I'm currently stuck deciding which 34" ultrawide to get between this Alienware and this LG Ultragear on Amazon. The LG seems to be the correct choice but I've been living under a rock for the better part of a decade so I've got a couple of dumb questions before I decide. Is there a significant difference between being "G-Sync Compatible" vs "G-Sync"? How significant is the difference between 120hz and 144hz?

I’m happy for you, but I believe you’re mistaken about a “34” curved 100hz 4k monitor”. I don’t believe any such monitor exists. If you want a high-refresh, low-response-time 34” ultra wide, then you’re looking at 3440x1440p, which already will be taxing on your system at high settings (but totally doable for your build). Running the number of pixels in a purported 4K ultra wide would be insane.

I just did a quick search and I’m not seeing any 4K ultrawides (and if there were, they’d cost at least $5000 and require a 2080ti). Perhaps you’re mixed up about the monitor?

Edit: also, for any monitor you get, I’d highly recommend GSYNC. I doubt your work monitor has that. If you want to go 34” ultra wide, these are you best two options:

Alienware AW3420DW

LG 34GN850-B

Yes, with a caveat! Don't bother if your setup won't do things a Console could never do. The big biggie:

Custom / Ultrawide Resolution!

I have owned every console while building a new gaming-PC every 7 years. But I ALWAYS go Ultrawide Monitor on the PC as it will really stand apart from Console, especially the PORT(s) like 'Sea of Thieves,' which is begging for Ultrawide. You will pay a little more, and yet more if you want Curved, but trust me... When you see GTA or any AAA Console Port in Ultrawide, you will thank me. Here is my monitor:

https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-Curved-NVIDIA-Edgelight-Monitor/dp/B07YLGH9Q5

Now, I know this is high budget, but I would strongly suggest coming off the Framerate Quest and cutting some performance-corners to make room for Specialized Displays! Else why not just play Console if you're still only getting 1080P?

It's pretty awesome and I would probably choose the 2x AW3420DW monitors over the G9.

They are also on sale right now on Amazon for Prime Day. Now would definitely be the time to buy. As a heads up, Alienware has also just announced new flagship monitors, but they are gonna be really expensive.

An alternative: AW3420DW.

1080 is just a bad resolution for that size, the AOC all the way from your original list.

Depending on the budget though here are some IPS 34" panels worth checking out as well:

The touted LG34GN850 as well as the slightly less expensive Acer X34 or the snazzy Alienware A3420DW

If we're talking 49"
There's the Samsung CRG9, AOC AGON AG493UCX, Dark Matter 49, or you can wait for the 2nd gen Samsung Odyssey G9, all of these are somewhat scarce/pricey options though.

Honorable mentions:
LG38GN950 - 38" option that looks amazing.

I'm in the market for a 34" UW and there are a couple I'm looking at that seem to be slightly discounted for Prime day.

LG-34GK950F-B for $797

AW3420DW for $1029

Hope someone can weigh in on whether the Gsync module is worth the extra $250ish?

There are also a bunch more monitors on sale.

The Alienware you linked is the older AW3418DW, and it is not in stock nor is a price listed. It's a great monitor, but I would not pay over $700 for it.

You can get the newer, better, AW3420DW direct from Dell for $1,060, or from Amazon for $1,030:

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/new-alienware-34-curved-gaming-monitor-aw3420dw/apd/210-atzq/monitors-monitor-accessories

https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-Curved-NVIDIA-Edgelight-Monitor/dp/B07YLGH9Q5

Apparently the LG has a slightly better panel, although Rtings is the only place I could find that has done a review on it.

As far as LG vs Alienware... I've owned 2 LG displays and 2 Alienware displays in the past year and a half.

  • Alienwares stands are humongous monstrosities.
  • Build quality from both brands is fantastic.
  • Alienwares OSD is a lot better.
  • LGs joysticker knobber deal is way better than the stone age buttons Alienware uses to control the OSD.
  • I've heard Dell/Alienware has better warranty support, if that matters to you.

I'd happily buy a display from either brand without second thought. But good IPS vs slightly good-er IPS, essentially the same price point, no FALD or HDR for either (no, HDR400 is not HDR)? The Alienware is the clear winner, no questions asked, just because it has real G-Sync.

Hey guys,

I probably posted this before, but I wanted to make a fresh post. Here are some questions I have.

-I just purchased a 34 Inch Alienware Curved Monitor. If I want to hook up a second monitor, I understand it will plug into the computer. Will I have multiple display ports or will the main monitor go into the display port and second monitor use HDMI?

I understand when I am playing full game, the cursor is locked in a "invisible" barrier within the game so it doesn't go off screen (either by accident or by intent). If I push the windows key, the game window will become smaller and then the mouse can move to different monitors. So if one monitor for instance is to the right of the main, and say a third is on top, would I just move the cursor all the way up to get to the one above the main monitor? Any tips or anything you can tell me? My main monitor comes tomorrow and waiting for my PC to get here and then I will get my second monitor.

Any recommendations for a good size second monitor? I am thinking 27 inch. Also, someone mentioned that you have to be careful the resolution of second or third monitor, because the my understanding is, the graphic card has to "power" them. This is my main monitor (https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-Curved-NVIDIA…/…/B07YLGH9Q5). Can I run another 1440? Should I go 1080? What about 4K. Here are my specs to my computer (4 sticks of 8 instead of 2 sticks of 16). Any assistance of what I could get or what I should avoid.

Side Note: I am moving from XBOX1X and an LG OLED to this setup. I know this sounds dumb, but what is the best way to purchase games on PC. So they have the UPLAY store? Do they have epic games store? DO I have to download any "launchers"? I understand there is Steam but what are some other things to keep in mind. I guess I am confused exactly how launchers work. Just did a search and I there are multiple launchers. Anyways, any help would be appreciate. Sorry if it seems like I am repeating myself. Wanted to put all my questions in one post. Thanks again!!

I use the original version of Alienware monitor, the AW3418DW, I really like it, but I picked it up on sale for about $700 USD. Only thing is that it's 100Hz native with 120Hz OC. Other than slightly lower than 144Hz, it's IPS with G-Sync, and 1440p.

Hey everyone, wanted to see if I could get some advice. With prime day going on I am pulling the trigger and looking to put together a new PC. This will be the first PC that I have assembled. I need the system to be able to perform well for gaming as well streaming large video and medical imaging files for work related purposes. I have put together what I think is a good system for this so far but would love feedback. I am looking to keep the whole thing under $2500.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/sand575/saved/#view=F98v3C

Also, I am having some difficulty with finding the proper monitor. I have been looking at these three but wanted to see which you think would be the best. The only thing for the monitor is that we want a wide screen monitor both for the gaming and the work aspect. Thanks for the input.
