In general, you shouldn't use laptops for gaming because you can't replace the parts as they meet EOL failure, but if you're sold on only a laptop, this might be alright.
Always make sure the 16 GB RAM is single stick. RAM is only as fast as the weakest (smallest) RAM stick on the motherboard

The Acer Predator Helios 300 would suit your needs as it is powerful enough and to produce music smoothly. Laptops with brighter screens would have significantly less power than the helios though so I would stick with it. There is a slot that you can add more storage and RAM easily as well. The battery life is not 7 hrs. 2-3 when gaming but around 4-5 causally

Tower is best but I use my laptop when out of town runs wh2 on max just hate there’s no gsync. I might would wait till the next set comes (fall/holiday) out should get a price drop on the current shit unless ya can’t wait.

This will push the top end of your budget but it'll run anything out now 1080p 60fps at or near ultra settings, has good build quality and thermals, has a nice display, and is all around a great machine.
It's also going to be very hard to find a better laptop for the money. They have a very good reputation.

Hey, I would recommend the Acer Predator Helios 300 for sure, The other gaming laptops are a bit over $1500 USD right now and this is the best option for your budget. This laptop provides great specs for the price and is ideal for gamers who do not want to overspend. Its battery life is not that long (around 4-5 hrs) so you will have to walk with your charger. The GPU in this laptop won’t go stale for a while as it is fully able to run new titles on max settings and get great FPS. An improvement on the 2018 version as it has a much better cooling system that can be easily tweaked to improve performance even more. It has enough power to run engineering software without lag. Also has: 15.6" Full HD 144Hz 3ms IPS Display, i7-9750H, GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, 16GB DDR4, 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD

I ended up going a bit over budget and getting the Acer Predator Helios 300 for $1,120 on Amazon. It felt like a good price based on the excellent reviews, plus it has 16GB RAM and 526GB SSD.
Regardless, thanks for the info!

I thought you could wait for the same model to be shipped again, but since you can't then this is your 2nd best thing unless you want to spend more now that you have promo credit.

I'm not a computer guy so I don't really know if the specs are good or not, I just know that it was really popular for being a good value or something like that

You can buy the Helios 300 with 512gb ssd for $1169.
It's very popular, so you can know for sure that there will not be any major issues with it. And for $1169 it's very good value.
The legion is better on paper but as long as you can get acer helios 300 for cheaper than $1200 it's pretty good.

It's a part of the laptop, the GPU that handles graphics and powers the rendering in blender. Here's the other one:

the new acer predator helios 300 works pretty freakin well (i know because i have it). thermals could be better but the laptop is thin for its power. 144hz rr, i7 9750, 1660ti, 16gb of ram, 523gb ssd. handles programs like photoshop and procreate very well, graphics are pretty good for the price (1200). this thing can handle as many tabs open at a time as you can throw at it, in my experience at least. it has an available hdd slot and is overclockable, if you're into that sort of thing. Predator PH315-52 (model). there's a slightly better one than mine on sale 25% off right now here. hope this helps!

Oh, yes, I was definitely looking at this laptop, but with the 1660 Ti and 9th gen I7 on sale for $1129 on Amazon, as well.

but the thing is that I honestly appreciate Razer’s build quality and I give points to the thinness and lightness of the Razer Blade. The main reason the Predator has good cooling is because it’s undervolted by -0.125v right out of the box, and if you know anything about undervolting, you know it can make a big difference to temps and performance. I was planning on doing the same thing with my Razer Blade, so hopefully I get great results! Thank you so much for the recommendation, though, it’s definitely a good one!

I was pretty close to deciding on an Acer Predator Helios 300 before I saw this, but now that I see this MSI with an RTX 2060 and still be a lower price, I'm almost 100% sure I'll buy this instead.
Before I do, I just want to ask: are there any concerns that come with MSI laptops? Any major pros or cons between this and the Acer that are worth considering? Or is this definitely the better purchase?

Hey, isn't this basically the same one going for less than what ur pricing yours? I think you should reduce the price you want by atleast 100-200 dollars if you expect anybody is gonna buy although I wouldn't recommend it if you only want to get a cheaper model just keep this one because you won't really make that much by selling, you'll probably sell for the same amount you would get a cheaper one for lol anyways glws.

Laptop for Computer Science + Game Design Major w/ Gaming
- Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
- 1.4k USD
- Are you open to refurbs/used?
- No
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
- Build quality - I want something that will last me all throughout my 4 years of college. Preferably something that performs fast for compiling code and etc. Good battery life would be a plus, but I won't really be anywhere without a power outlet so it doesn't matter too much.
- How important is weight and thinness to you?
- Don't really care that much, but a lighter computer would be a plus.
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
- N/A
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
- Software for coding in Python, Java, C++ + other CS languages. Art Programs: Autodesk Maya, 3DS Max, ZBrush, Photoshop. Gaming: Valorant, CS:GO. I need it for basic things for college as well (surfing the web, homework, etc.)
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
- I play Valorant and CS:GO mostly. I would like to get good fps, honestly I'm fine with around 60-80. I wouldn't mind getting a gaming laptop with good graphics.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
- Reliable build quality and good keyboard. I will need a USB input port for my drawing tablet (Yiynova MVP10U).
- Other comments:
- I'm open to buying a gaming laptop, I was looking at this one: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-9750H-Response-PH315-52-710B/dp/B07YM938TP/ref=pd_lpo_147_t_1/144-7020991-4240840?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07YM938TP&pd_rd_r=9627f1ae-ebbf-44c2-a38b-0d9077692cdc&pd_rd_w=poc3L&pd_rd_wg=wVoK2&pf_rd_p=7b36d496-f366-4631-94d3-61b87b52511b&pf_rd_r=KDQQ3PTA1KZ7QAZEEB7W&psc=1&refRID=KDQQ3PTA1KZ7QAZEEB7W but I wasn't sure if it would fit all my needs. I would reconsider your asking price. The 2019 model is going for $1130 brand new on Amazon and has better specs. Also you should really add more timestamps, as it's hard to tell exactly what you're selling.

It’s one undervolt and overclock away from performing nearly identical to the one I posted above. I know it’s slightly over your budget but it’s a 6 core 12 thread cpu with a 1660ti, you’ll be gaming at 1080p for yeeeeears.

Look at this, if your using it for gaming I'd recommend at least 16gb of ram, 512gb of storage is the bare minimum and you'd have to get more eventually, but the processor and graphics on this one will last a long time. If you can I'd try to find something with 16 gb of ram, and maybe a 2060, that way it'll last a little longer and give you higher frames.
