[Monitor] Acer Predator XB271HU 27" 1440p, 144hz G-SYNC IPS - $499 ($699-$200)
r/buildapc • comment
6 points • MwSkyterror

It's pointless to get two 144hz monitors as the second one won't be running games. For $720 combined cost, get a top tier primary monitor for $500 and a regular 1440p 60hz secondary one.

PSU should be $125ish. PCPP probably selected the wrong merchant.

GPU is overpriced. This EVGA is a whopping $115 less on sale. You'll get better performance for that money with a 3700X upgrade.

Acer Predator XB271HU

I’ve had this monitor since 2016 and it’s been fantastic. It’s super easy to overclock to 165hz and has a super sturdy stand. Some people don’t like the buttons to navigate the menu but I’ve found them to be easy enough to use.

Only issue I’ve ever had is occasionally (like once or twice a year) the middle pixels will overlap and display on the left side but a quick reboot fixes it. It’s gone down in price a ton too, got mine for like $800 when it first came out.

I believe this is over budget for you but if you think you can swing it I can attest that this is probably the best 1440P IPS with Gsync that I've ever seen. The colors are incredibly accurate, the Gsync is solid and the brightness is brilliant.

Eh not necessarily. This one isn't the best on the market or anything but it is a 1440p 144hz gsync widescreen IPS monitor for under $450

Check if its IPS or TN panel, the IPS should command a higher price.

It's $490 on Amazon right now, but I did get one for $379 on Dec 31, 2019.

At any rate. This monitor does not disappoint. 1440p 165mhz stellar colors. To this day there aren't many better options out there.

This one is right at the top of your budget. It's currently $595, however it drops below $500 fairly frequently. It has a 144hz refresh rate, gsync, 1440p resolution, and an IPS panel. This is the monitor I use as my primary screen, it's excellent for gaming, work, and sitting back and watching things. The resolution helps reduce eye strain if you're using it all day and the IPS panel gives it versatility for many use cases. TN panels aren't even close to achieving the same viewing angles and color accuracy.

The downsides are a 4ms response time which is slower than other types of panels, but is on the fast side for an IPS panel. I've never had any issues with this. The other main down side I've heard of with this screen is issues with backlight bleed or dead pixels on arrival - basically the manufacturing tolerances aren't amazing. My monitor didn't have any of these issues, but others definitely did. I've had this monitor for about two years now and love it. Definitely on the pricier side, but if you want a monitor that checks pretty much every box then this is a solid option.

Consider this one, I got it for IL2. It’s fantastic, and 165hz if your computer card can push out frames. I also mounted it on a monitor arm for my desk so I can pull/push it forward, depending on what game I’m playing.

Solid monitor but you're definitely overpaying, mostly for the brand as Asus is notorious as ROG and the go-to for all pc gaming. If you want 1440P@144hz gaming that's all you need to look into for a monitor. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_luDOEb5WNGG9K

Is also a solid choice and cheaper. You can even find them cheaper second hand use since many are jumping into 4K and ultrawide monitors.

I didnt assume bad internet I just assumed below 1gb/sec. You could change it to a 2x 1000Mb card if you wanted, but you would be capped at exactly 250MB.

I dont think you should change anything except things that may be too expensive or not available in Canada (SSD, HDD, Peripherals).

Also I think you should stick with your monitor until Black Friday and try to snag an Acer Predator 1440p 165Hz overclockable G-sync IPS 27in for real cheap

1ms is a meaningless number, it doesn't mean anything as there's no standard measurement, it's not like resolution or refresh rate. I would highly suggest ignoring the response time and getting a 1440p 144Hz IPS display like the Acer Predator XB1, I bought one at B&H over a year ago and I absolutely love it. You get 1440p at 60fps with the color reproduction of IPS for graphically intensive games like Witcher 3, or RDR2, and you get the smoothness of 144Hz for eSports titles like CS:GO and Overwatch.

I have this Acer Predator XB271HU which is rated to 144hz. However, I am only able to set my refresh rate to 100hz in the system settings. What am I doing wrong? Is it because I'm using an HDMI instead of a display port?

I've updated my drivers for everything but the monitor, as there is no driver for Windows 10.

I went from this to the AW3418DW and haven’t noticed any significant drawbacks aside from the extra juice needed to push frames. FWIW, I never bothered to clock the XB271 above 144hz, so I don’t know about the extra ~20fps drop, but in most FPS I feel just as competent at 120 (or 100ish, 21:9 1440p is a lotta pixels) as I did at 144. IMO the biggest gameplay gains from high refresh rate are made between 60 and ~110.

Hello all, I currently have the Acer Predator XB271HU 27" 144Hz monitor and I want to add a secondary monitor to the setup. I have a 2080 Super and have read about the possibility of issues with mixed refresh rates for the secondary monitor.

Since the secondary monitor is not meant for anything demanding could I get a 60Hz panel to save money or should I budget for a 144Hz secondary monitor to remove potential headaches? I love the feel of 144Hz but I do think its not all that important for my secondary monitor as itll most likely just have reference materials or chat apps running on it while more demanding tasks are on the primary 144Hz panel.

Thanks!

I have that monitor as well, but found the colors to be very washed out - any dark scene would just look like watered down grey. Not sure if I got a bad panel or it's just the earlier IPS colors.

Really depends on your budget and if you're planning on upgrading your machine anytime soon, you want monitors to last rather than having to change it again and again. With motion sickness the panel type can really help, VA seems to be the worst for it because their lower gtg response times can cause ghosting. You're current monitor is PLS which is Samsung's version of IPS which is probably what I would recommend to you, so for a new one I would go up in refresh rate and resolution. Try and look for a 1440p 144Hz monitor like; https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1 I can't say whether a curve would make it worse or not I don't have a curved monitor myself. Another tip, try glasses with blue light filtering lenses. Blue light can cause headaches and such so that might help or might not, I use them in the evening to prevent eyestrain.

Unpopular opinion: get a monitor that looks nice, not one that has big numbers...and that you're able to run.

I went from a 23" 60Hz IPS, to this. Don't get me wrong, it's very smooth, and looks great... But I honestly don't really notice the higher refresh rate, outside of games just looking smoother. Additionally, upgrading from an RX 280 to a 1080Ti made more of a difference.

I've heard a lot of people say "now that I have a >60Hz monitor, 60Hz is unusable, it's a slideshow!". At home I get to use the fancy monitor, but at work I'm using 2x 20" 60Hz 900p monitors... And honestly, the screen real estate is what I miss and notice more than the refresh rate. Same thing in gameplay.

So, get what you like, can afford & can run at a frame rate that is at or above the refresh rate consistently.

Monitors don’t “generally” follow any sort of industry standard model year release schedule like TVs tend to do but the big players do tend to release some newer modes around Q3/4 in time for holidays. Notably some of the newer technology is mini-led which is a better version of a backlit led panel and micro-led which is more or less comparable to QLED. In my opinion it doesn’t really seem like there’s any massive tech breakthrough that would justify waiting for new models. I can only see that as relevant if you have you eye on a monitor and want to wait for its replacement so that, in theory, the replaced one is cheaper.

I personally have a 24” 1080p acer predator and have nothing but good things to say. The 27” 1440p version with gsync will cost around $500 which leaves some room in your budget too: Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27" WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC IPS Monitor, (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz), Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tRTQEbAPW0RHK

That’s a good call to be fair. If money is no issue, and you have the GPU power to keep it at a high framerate without flickering, that’s one of the best monitors.

If you’re set on this price though and that’s fine with you. This monitor is barely more and also an IPS 120Hz, and it’s an ultrawide. https://www.microcenter.com/product/484980/dell-alienware-aw3418dw-341-uw-qhd-120hz-hdmi-dp-g-sync-curved-ips-led-gaming-monitor

Or if you’re willing to give up a few milliseconds response time, this Predator is solid too.

Troubleshooting: Updated to latest drivers. Updated SteamVR. If I put the resolution in games to "auto" I get playable framerates, but it's still so inconsistent I get sick pretty fast. I went from hours of Beat Saber and HL Alyx, to 15 minutes tops. My 980Ti performed better in VR. Obviously 3060ti outperforms in every other way, in every other game.
