It’s amazing. Well worth the price and the quality is very good on it. Reddit cut the quality down a bit but I record in 1080p60fps I believe. If it wasn’t rainy and dark it would’ve been better.

I have the Aukey, most popular rated dash cam in the dashcam subreddit. Here's a link. I 100% back this dashcam, worth every penny, especially if you're a city driver. I have mine connected through USB, so I tucked it under the headliner, behind the A-pillar trim, under the passenger car seat, under the center console, and it comes out right next to the front passenger seat by the USB outlet. Super simple, you just tuck the wire in so it just barely is hidden. The dashcam is super sleek, and the wire it comes with is long enough to do this.

I have [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072FGL63X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) one in my car and my wife's. And the front and rear version of this same one in my 16yo son's car.

Not OP, but I use [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Dashboard-Supercapacitor-Nighttime-Recording/dp/B072FGL63X). As far as I can tell, its the best cheap camera you can get.

This AUKEY dashcam rode around on my truck for a couple of years, and when we swapped it for a hatchback in the city we moved the camera over. I really like this design because you can tuck it up behind the mirror and most people walking by the car will never notice it.
This wiring kit for it let me hook it up to power without a 12v power adapter or an add-a-fuse kit. Because it can draw both always-on power and ignition power, the dashcam comes on when you start the car, but it ALSO comes on if the kit detects rocking, like if your parked car just got hit. If it senses motion, it turns the camera on for a couple of minutes in hopes of catching a plate number or vehicle description.

I got this one. Goes on sale for $50. Hardwire kit adds $15 but not needed. SD card adds another $20 or so.
You have to be pretty close to read plates during the day. During the night it's real hard to read plates unless you are stopped. It still captures a lot and has pretty good video/audio quality.

All dashcams have to be plugged in. Just the way they work. Roav is a good option as is Aukey. Either are decent budget options.

Here's the one that was recommended to me on Reddit. Just bought it few weeks ago to replace one that died.

This is your dash cam? Do you recommend it? Easy to install?

I grabbed this one last year and it's been working great since! I've seen it go for $50 on massdrop as well.

Aukey Dash Cam Dont forget to get an SD card specifically for video as well (see frequently bought together).

I don't know how many people are desperate enough to try to steal a relatively cheap dashcam that is properly mounted with VHB tape. They are very hard to remove without a heat gun and time.
I have two wedge-shaped ones (like this) that blend in nicely and have never had a problem.

Not sure what is being used in this video but I know of this one.

I’ve used this for a few years and captured two accidents in glorious FHD. I just run simplest settings; loop recording at 1080 and plugged into a cig outlet that turns off when the car is off and I’ve never had to think about it. It captures the entire view from the windshield, if you can see it out the front window it captures it.

I’m honestly not sure yet, I just got that one in the mail today and haven’t gotten it out of my mailbox. I have this one already and find the quality to be pretty good. There are a couple of dash cam videos in my posts.

I watched a bunch of dashcam videos on YouTube and this model kept popping up. The videos always looked good, so I bought two cams, two gps units, and two power kits for my wife's and my vehicles. I've been very happy with them so far.
1 points • TheDragonzord
I'd highly suggest the smaller ones that mount in front of, so between the glass and your mirror, instead of this style. They are truly hidden and when you need to pull footage you just unclip them from the glued on mount.
I was going to link the one I bought five years ago and am still using but it's not available anymore. It's similar to this.

I know you didn't ask, but.... this cam is great for the money. If you watch it closely, it goes on sale every month for $48. I have bought an installed several of them...very easy installation. If you have more money to spend, there are much higher quality cams out there, but this is excellent for the price!

Is this also shit? Currently on sale for around $50.
I'll eventually upgrade to A129 duo package but need to prioritize other purchases first.

I’ve been using this for about 2 years now. It’s a solid and simple camera.

Sorry I fell asleep lol. Anyway , I live in Texas where it's not uncommon to have a heat index over 110 in the summer. I had an Anker brand one that used a lithium ion battery and it lasted a year till the heat got it and the battery puffed up. So I read up on heat resistant ones and capacitors are supposed to be better, so I've been using this cheap one for now. It's been working with no problems (fingers crossed) for about 6 months.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the car has to be on for it to work. With my last one that had the battery, it would record if it sensed movement. So, it just depends where you live. If you don't live in a hot climate, you'd be fine with a lithium ion battery one

I went with the popular Aukey DR02:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072FGL63X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_zP33FbA2GQM03
I live in a really warm climate. Many of the other popular dash cams on Amazon have Lithium Ion batteries. They can react badly to high temps.
The Aukey only has a capacitor, so while it doesn't get to continue running with the car off, there's no chance of the battery reacting poorly to heat.

IMO, that's a pretty ugly cam lol. As far as functioanlity, I have no idea. Could be decent or could be eh. I am not familiar with Nexar. I'd suggest going with something more common an Aukey cam or the A119 V2.

There are dashcams that jump out and scream LOOK AT ME! and there are some that are not obvious at all. This wedge style is what I have. Not this particular device, but just that style.

I have this one and it has been great. It takes very clear video and hasn't given me any trouble.

I'm using an Aukey DR02: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072FGL63X/
It looks alright at night, but I feel like it lacks a bit in detail. Here's an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/e1ouif/right_turns_always_have_right_of_way_right/

I think the best one that I've seen for lower end is the Aukey 1080p cam and the A129 Duo is a great option too. /u/rocketpianoman

This is the one I got last year. Good crossroads between economy and quality. Decent picture and sound, pretty small. Easy to install. You can find installation videos on youtube (at least that's what I did). One note is that the sound defaults to off, so make sure to change that setting.

Bought the 2019 premium 6-speed back in December 2018 and have been buying up the different modifications since then. Here are and older picture of the back and inside the drivers seat. I added whole bunch of different things and did all the installs myself, with the exception of aligning the tires. I'll try to include all the details here:
- Subtle Solutions Lift Kit - This was a custom setup, 1.5in in the front and 1.75 in the back, just a little bit of a rake to avoid that saggy butt look and not high beam everyone with my normal headlights.
- LP Adventure "Big" Bumper Guard - These guys are great, they do some crazy stuff with Subarus and were kind enough to give me a bit of a discount too. I love the look of this thing.
- Prinsu Designs Roof Rack - I hated the aero bars, nothing ever lined up on them, they rattled, they were hard to reposition. I'd been eyeing the Prinsu rack for a while, it was the last mod I did. Install was super easy. I have a few grips about the build quality, and things I'd do differently myself if I had the tools for it, but overall I love the look and the utility.
- Black Rhino Boxers 15x7 - I didn't really like the Methods as much as everyone else, and these seemed like a fun way to break the mold just a little. Actually found them for the best price on Amazon.
- BF Goodrich A/T KO2s 235/75/15 - Same tires everyone gets, in this case there was no reason to mess with success. The lift helps them fit with ease. There is a bit of rub if you lock the wheels all the way on turns, but it's just on the flaps so I'm totally ok with it.
- Rally Armour Lift/AT mudflaps - I don't love the mudflap look, but had to pass inspection in MA, so here these are.
- Gorilla Acorn Lug Nuts - just to round out the black tire look
- Baja Designs Squadron Sports w/ Rally Innovations Conversion Kit - a few other people on the sub have put these lights in and they just look freaking awesome, as seen while on here
- Raceseng Tow Hook - offers some utility, and honestly I just liked the look. Also happens to be some top-tier machining they do over there.
- Yakima Fat Cat 6 Ski Rack - gotta fit all the skis on the top. This thing has tons of space and more importantly, it's not super annoyingly loud on the highway. I personally love Yakima's products.
- Yakima FrontLoader Bike Rack - in the warm seasons I bike race, so the ski rack comes off and the bike comes with me.
- Mountain Emblem Overlays - nothing complex here, just some vinyl overlays. Top quality, I recommend them if they're your thing. The pack comes with front, rear, and steering wheel.
- Custom Shift Knob from BDR Fabrication - working with these guys was awesome! I got to design the knob exactly how I wanted, from the vinyl to the shape and cuts to the color, and they were super helpful throughout the process. This one is actually a two piece knob so I could orient the logo correctly.
- Cup Holder Liners - really just wanted to keep up the black and white look, and these are fairly useful as well for quick cleaning coffee leaks
- Aukey Dash Cam - I hope I never need it, but it could save me thousands if I do. Well worth the small investment.
That's the full deal. Like I said, I did all the installs myself so I'm happy to answer any questions. Thanks to every here for giving me so many great ideas!
