Asus vivobook 15 with ryzen 5 3500 is the only one i know in that price range. It's the one I have too.

here's the 8gb ram version, buy there's a 4gb one available too, which can later be upgraded till 12gb. It comes with an ssd, an extra SATA slot if you want to thrown in another hdd/ssd later on.

The 8gb ram version is 560$ on Amazon, but I'm quite sure that you'll find it for cheaper in a store. However, if you can't go to a store and don't want to pay more than 500$, you can buy the 4gb ram version, but you'll really need to upgrade down the line to 8 or 12 gb.

Need suggestions for new laptop

Hello all. My nearly 10 year old Alienware recently bit the dust and I need suggestions for a new laptop. I'm not really looking to do much gaming on my PC anymore so for the most part I just want to have this for general use but I do like to do a lot of things that use processing power, ie. file conversions, film and music editing, youtube videos, etc. and multitask with these things a lot. Obviously I don't need anything super good as far as a video card because I'm not looking to game on it much if at all. Other than that, just basic browsing. While this seems basic I definitely dont want to skimp on speed/processing power.

Definitely looking for my optimal option here, something reliable from a trustworthy brand that is affordable; I would think something as basic wouldn't generally be that expensive. I already had my eye on an Asus laptop (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QQB7552/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_uF6IEbDMVDNT7) for about 600 that seems efficient but I definitely want suggestions before I decide to pull the trigger on anything. 8 gigabytes or more would be preferred for RAM. No optical drive required. Good amount of USB slots would be nice. Pretty basic.

Any suggestions or further questions about specifics would be appreciated.

I think the Acer is a good choice you could also check the Asus vivobook 15 it's a bit lighter at 3.5 Lbs. only and the AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics should help with gaming .

Hi, I hope I can ask about laptops here.

I was ready to buy this when I realized AMD R5 was not short for Ryzen 5. I did some research myself but am not familiar with the shop talk that describes the difference between the AMD R series and the Ryzen series. Could someone tell me if the R Series is worth using or if I should keep looking for PC with a Ryzen 5 processor? I'd like game on it (WoW, FFXIV, Witcher 3) but more than anything I'd like to be not be limited as far as it not being able to handle certain games.

Thanks a ton. Link below.

I did some research if you can pay ~60USD more, this the Asus Vivobook 15 with the Ryzen 5 3500U seems like a good option, apparently screen is a bit dull but the laptop would perform well, comes with Windows tho and ofc all the bloatware and stuff that comes with it, but if you install linux or smth then you won't have that problem. On the amazon page select the Ryzen CPU

Thank you for the advice! I see someone else also recommended this one and it seems like a very good computer in my price range for what I need. I did have one question though, on amazon it compared it to https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VivoBook-R5-3500U-Graphics-F512DA-EB51/dp/B07QQB7552/ref=psdc_13896615011_t2_B0862269YP, an Asus for a cheaper price, with a faster cpu speed and 4 processors instead of one. Any thoughts on this specific computer in comparison with the other one?

Hi! I'm currently half way through CS and the Asus Vivobook 15 is imo a really good option, you don't really need much more than that. For comparison I'm running a 5th Gen i5 with 8GB of RAM and 240GB SSD and it's fine for coding (Java/Python/C#,C,Haskell, Assembler in my case) having 2 extra cores is a real bonus.

That is good that it has an international warranty. If you are buying on Amazon, I would not buy it from a seller on Amazon, but rather buy it from Amazon itself. In the link you posted, the seller is ShopAmerica, which is a seller using Amazon to sell their product. If you have a problem, you may have difficulty.

Here is a similar model that is sold by Amazon. If you look on the right hand side under the "Buy Now" button, it will say Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. if it being sold by Amazon itself. I would buy that to be safe, since Amazon has excellent customer service.

you can try nextdoor or creglist ads but laptops are notorious these days for being short lived, so it really likely isn't worth the bother. You have to sort thru a large number of listings too which are asking the same if not higher price than a store bought computer.

Just mail order something like this or try your luck with visiting the bestbuy openbox bins.

I bought a nice HP, but if it’s just for taking notes, I would say you don’t need to spend $700.

You could get something like this

I believe it’s around 5-600 brand new.

I would say go 8 GB of RAM, at least a ryzen 5 or Intel i5 and at least 256GB of space on an SSD. SSDs will load information a lot faster, especially booting up quicker.

If you can afford to increase your budget to $480 before shipping and tax, then the following Asus Vivobook with a quad core Ryzen 5 3500u will be your best option. Be aware that the integrated Vega 8 graphics core will claim 2GB of RAM for itself.

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VivoBook-R5-3500U-Graphics-F512DA-EB51/dp/B07QQB7552/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=ryzen+5+3500u+laptop&qid=1587759232&s=electronics&sr=1-4

Below this price you are basically looking at new laptops with dual core processors like a Intel Core i3 or AMD Ryzen 3.

I bought this mid last year, and am very pleased with it. It has a nice screen with thin bezels, is quick and snappy, and has a fingerprint reader. My only gripe is the lack of a RJ45 port. Not a biggie but I use a LAN cable at home. There are quite a number of decent laptop at this price range.

For the price it's okay, but you definitely need more ram. I greatly recommend this laptop: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VivoBook-R5-3500U-Graphics-F512DA-EB51/dp/B07QQB7552/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=3500u&qid=1588297311&sr=8-1

I just came across this model too. This one is also a TN display and it doesn't have the 1TB HDD in it. But its under $500. https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VivoBook-R5-3500U-Graphics-F512DA-EB51/dp/B07QQB7552

The TN display is hard to gauge. It depends on your personal threshold for what looks "good". Some people find them good enough, some find them disgustingly hard to look at.

you can, its not fun to do so in a laptop special a pre built one. and the issue is your cooling is not going to be designed with it in mind. The top end mobile cpu that fits the same socket is a Intel Mobile Pentium N3540.
That would give you a significant boost. but you would have to find one as they are likely sold at retail any more. And you will have to work out and upgrade your cooling. You are better or long term saving up and buying a new laptop. Looking at amazon briefly you can get far better specs for just £250 \~$300
something like this https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VivoBook-R5-3500U-Graphics-F512DA-EB51/dp/B07QQB7552/ref=sr_1_13?qid=1582019000&refinements=p_36%3A1253507011&rnid=386442011&s=computers-intl-ship&sr=1-13 is fine running that at min specs and having music or YouTube in the background.
or you could get a refurbished one. just make sure it comes with a warranty. Go on the steam page look at the recommend specs for the games you play to give you an idea of what you need. (min specs are the bare minimum and old laptops with them wont be able to perform as well.
you looking for something with a actually gpu if you can rather than an apu
to be honest if you only use the laptop for playing games and don't move around a lot your better of building a deskptop. go to somewhere like pcpartpicker and just build it. you get more power for the same cost as a laptop and a lot easier to upgrade so you can start with a good motherboard and have cheaper components then replace them over time. i would look at something that is am4 slot and hase pcie 4 watch some youtube on the various parts. if you on a budget amd will be cheaper but wont be doing 4k VR as easily on the top end

Something for casual gaming. Probably not to large. Not to heavy and nicely priced. I would suggest getting something with at least a full hd screen for the nicer look in games. Like this Ideapad for instance. A nice 14" with full hd display. Good cpu, graphics for the games listed.

Asus also has a nice line up of machines that arent to expensive but very nice. Like this one. Its slightly larger with its 15.6"but also boosts that full hd screen.

Acer comes in with a 15.6" model. Im not a big fan though some really like Acer This machine also comes full hd display though a bit of a lesser video card.

Nearly everything sold today can run CK2, but with CK3 coming soon I would suggest to not waste your money and get something that can run the new game as well. If you need to stay below $500 I would suggest a Ryzen 5 APU equipped laptop, something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VivoBook-R5-3500U-Graphics-F512DA-EB51/dp/B07QQB7552

At least going by game-debate.com's metrics the integrated Vega 8 graphics are above the minimum requirements for CK3.

My advice for low-cost laptop suitable for light gaming would be something with AMD Ryzen 5 3500U (or 2500U) processor (though this is only a recommendation as AMD Ryzen processors have a more powerful integrated GPU and are cheaper than Intel equivalents). Also, 8GB RAM or more (Probably not more, but sometimes you find 12 or even 16GB on cheaper laptops. 8GB is sufficient for most, but more doesn't hurt at all), a SSD and FullHD IPS (also sometimes referred to as WideView) display. This should be achievable for 500$, especially since it seems you live in the US, where prices of electronics are lower.

Perhaps this one? - Asus Vivobook F512DA-EB51

Or this? - Lenovo Ideapad 330S-15ARR - It has a bit small SSD, only 128GB though.

Very nice, but 550$

Or this, if you like 2-in-1s

If you'd be OK with a used/refurbished computer, search for old business laptops (Lenovo Thinkpad - /r/thinkpad has a guide for buying, Dell Latitude/Precision). They are generally more durable and serviceable than usual consumer products, though there are some things you should avoid when buying (TN displays, IPS is much better)

With this budget you can have a decent machine already. The link you updated in your OP doesn't work for me.

I always recommend from experience to avoid Acer. Cheap price but very poor materials. Also the amazon user reviews are generally a good representation of the overall product quality.

Just under $600:

ASUS

HP

< $500

ASUS with nice specs for the price but very poor screen quality

If you need more storage but a bit over your budget:

Dell - 1000 GB storage

SSD storage is way better than HDD in terms of speed but it also costs more. If you buy a laptop with low storage like SSD 256GB and you need more space after some time, you can always buy yourself an external drive and plug it in with USB. Make sure you take USB3 and your laptop has USB3 ports as it is faster than the regular USB2.0.

I have no idea about other websites than amazon, I am not from the US. Also I don't know how good a refurbished product can be, but keep in mind you are not buying something brand new. Hope I could help.

Wut? Ryzen 7 can be had in laptops under $500.

This is literally the first result when I searched "Ryzen 7 laptop" on amazon.

This is a bit better balanced, though I would add another 8GB stick of RAM.

And for your $600 retail, you can have this, with Ryzen 5, 512GB SSD, 16GB of RAM, and a FHD touchscreen.
