Take a look at the Asus VG248QE. It’s nothing fancy and isnt the best looking monitor but I used it for a few years and was always really happy with it (only stopped using it as upgraded to a 27”). Its a 24 inch monitor

Yup still have it. I'll need it until next Friday as it's my only screen left. Any chance you'd be free to stop by near the Lloyd Center and pick it up next Friday afternoon or evening?
It's this monitor for reference: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VG248QE-1920x1080-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0
I bought it in like 2014 but I've kept it in decent shape.

I have a 240hz monitor. I upgraded to a 144 about 4 years ago when shooters were a big thing in my life. The difference between 60 and 144 was staggering to me. It felt like I was suddenly able to aim when I went to 144. It should definitely help your reaction time as well. I will never go back to 60hz if I can help it. This monitor, is pretty good. It goes on sale alot so you might be able to find deals if you wait if its currently not on some sale.

This monitor is widely accepted as the best value for a 144hz 1080p monitor:

The side monitor on the left is an old AOC 27" not sure about the model because I've had it for so long, and the middle monitor is this

Current Monitor I am using. That unfortunately is something that my wife wont budge on. Again, thank you for the input. Target is of course going to be as high resolution / frames that I can achieve with the constraint of budget and current monitor.

I bought this 4 years ago for $400, I’ve seen these go for like ~$200 nowadays. Never had a single issue, and I will continue using this monitor for more years to come.

The ol' standby, a timeless piece with a great color profile.
For such an old piece (I bought mine in 2012), these things hold up and I still see people buying these today. You can probably get a better price at a Micro Center or the like.

I currently already own a 144hz monitor, https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VG248QE-1920x1080-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0
I believe that's the one. I got it quite awhile ago, though. Do you think I should upgrade that as well? I've had it for so long that it has some minor burn-in from the windows bar at the bottom lmao, my second monitor is also a 60hz monitor thats kind of just there

I asked this sort of already but here we go again.
I was under impression that u can only get 144hz via DVI cable a while back and new GPUs dont have DVI but they have Display port. So does Display Port can support 144hz?
I have VG248QE . I want to upgrade to a new GPU and non of them have DVi but they do have DP ports, If i buy DP cable will my monitor be able to give me 144hz via DP cable to new GPU?

When researching, how can you tell what type of monitor you’re looking at? For example when I look on Amazon and find my current monitor, I’m struggling to find any of those acronyms.

I recently had four eye surgeries and bright things really hurt my eyes a lot. My monitor brightness is insanely low now too.
edit: I just checked out of curiosity as my monitor was one I got years ago on sale and it is a TN panel, I don't even know the differences between the "panel types" as I'm no monitor expert and have never looked into it before

Refresh rate and response time are the most important specs.
144hz is ideal, though 120 won't be bad.
< 2ms response time is ideal.
Freesync and Gsync are nice to haves, but not required for those outside of the most hardcore.
Triple curved would be interesting, but likely would look distorted.
I run 3 of these: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VG248QE-1920x1080-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0
I think you might have trouble finding 3 27" 144hz monitors for your budget. You could consider skipping triples and opting for a single ultrawide, too.
You could also buy a great monitor for the center, and worse monitors for the sides as long as they are the same size - tough to say.

Yeah sure at 1080p 60Hz your GPU should be fine for that.
But to go beyond that, according to your monitors manual anything above 60Hz only works with a DVI dual link connection.
Given that DVI is no longer common on present day monitors having been replaced by Displayport it may be time to update your monitor, this will also enable G-Sync so it cna handle a variable refresh rate.
See this 24" Asus with support for G-Sync compatible mode.

Well I suppose you can get away with just a GPU upgrade but that CPU is aging pretty bad especially since you can't OC it. I just upgraded from i5-4690k OC'd to 4.3 and it was having trouble running a few games at high settings (such as AC:Odyssey).
You'd probably be better going for a whole new build since I'd assume the RAM is DDR3 (as my 2015 build was).
If you just want a GPU upgrade though, you can't really go wrong with the 20xxS, just whatever you're willing to pay. It may be more beneficial to wait until September if you're interested in the 30xx series that are supposed to be released around that time.
As for a monitor, with any upgrades I'd go for at least a 144hz one. My first 144hz was this ASUS one which I still use and like it a lot but someone else might be better to suggest the monitor.

Purchased back in 2015 for my gaming PC, which sadly hasn't even been powered on in awhile. Low response time and high refresh rate made it great for CS:GO. Not the best monitor for productivity, just haven't had the funds or desire to replace it. The viewing angle is pretty poor, and there is something wrong with the Displayport jack -- there's about a 50% chance that it won't register as a secondary display when I wake up my laptop. The only workaround I've found is to completely disconnect the power from the monitor for a few seconds. When I plug it back in, it works just fine.

If this is your monitor, it very well has HDMI. DVI doesn’t support 144 or even 120hz.

I have around a 600 budget system
Bought this last month:
AMD ryzen 5 2600x: $99.99
Crucial 16GB ddr RAM: $72.99
Asus Prime b450m-a/csm matx motherboard: was 79.99 but discounted to 59.99 when paired with the 2600x
If we also counting my case:
NZXT h510 - white: 69.99
I bought my GPU in september 2018 and was using it for my old build before it died:
GTX 1060 6GB: $286
Then I got my PSU for free .650 W that is ~$50
So that brings my build to $639.
Then we actually have to pay for the "cheaper" 144hz TN panel
I got this on black friday for $160:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2HH7G0
Its normally like $300. This is still a TN panel with absolute trash viewing angles.
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=1080p+144hz+monitor&i=electronics&crid=6IO9F58RGAF8&sprefix=1080p+144%2Celectronics%2C162&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_9
The cheapest one I can find that is 144hz is $150
99.9999999999% of people dont have a 144hz monitor before building a gaming PC, so that is going to be ANOTHER $150 minimum to your budget.
So lets make our overall build more like $800
But have we actually looked at what games you play at 144fps? It is not many. You have CSGO, LOL, maybe overwatch?
Most newer games you are going to peak at 90fps if you had my build. Total warhammer 2 I peak at 90. Cod warzone I peak at 90.
If you were considering a PC vs console in the first place you probably play more than CSGO. just considering demographics.

Hello everyone, I feel kind of dumb but my old graphics card had DVI to DVI so I can run the monitor at 144hz. This graphics card does not have that, it only has display ports and HDMI. So I am unsure if I need a display to DVI or if HDMI to HDMI will work to get 144hz. This is the exact card: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WC7683C and this is the exact monitor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0

Using a TV as a second monitor?
I currently have the Asus 24" 144 Hz Monitor as my primary monitor and a Samsung 27" Curved 60 Hz Monitor as my second screen. I low key hate the second monitor, I've spent a long time messing with the settings but the image (especially text) is either blurry or jaggedly sharp, and so I'm looking for something a little higher resolution.

At first I was thinking of replacing both monitors with an ultrawide but I realized I'm using these for very different purposes, and I feel fine gaming on the 24". I'd just like some more real estate on my second monitor for music production, and maybe watching videos etc.

I've done some research and found that as long as the TV has the same input channels that my CPU can output and I'm okay with a slower response time, I think it should be alright?

A) Does anyone know if using a TV as a second monitor limits the frame rate on my primary monitor in any way? Does it hinder the response time of my primary monitor or tax my CPU/ GPU any more than a normal second monitor?

B) Does anyone have any recommendations for a 40"-60" TV that would be a good second monitor (ideally sub $500)? I care more about color resolution and quality images I guess as long as it hits 60 FPS, unless I'm looking at this wrong? I've never had a TV LOL! Also if it's plugged into my computer, I have some studio monitors so it doesn't need to have any speakers built in!

I'm sure I have more questions that I can't think of right now! My new PC that I'm building has an NVIDIA 2070 S, a Ryzen 7 3700X, and an x570 Motherboard. I don't have the components yet, and I'm not sure if/ how many HDMI/ VGA/ Display Capture ports it will have. Let me know if I can supply any other information!

Thank you in advance 😘

Laptop to monitor hertz?
So recently I bought a 144hz monitor to connect to my 60hz laptop but it can only go to 60hz on my monitor. I tried changing my HDMI cable to a newer one and it still didn't work.
Any ideas?

For more context I came from a 24" 1080p 144hz TN panel monitor to a 27" 1440p 144hz IPS monitor.
The 27" came on sale here for 300 and I took a leap and bought it. So glad I did.

Just a bit of advice. Its so worth it to get a decent monitor. I got a meh one when I made my rig because I blew the budget on the rig itself. Now I have a pretty okay monitor and its a night and day difference. When I go to my friends place to play on their normal TV monitors or on the really budget gaming monitors, I can tell SUCH a big difference. Mine was about $230 at MicroCenter and it seems to be around the same price today too. The 144hz wont be too much of a selling point for you, but it has a 1ms response time. I have yet to see a single game "tear" whatsoever on this new monitor. And I don't even have the G-sync compatible one, its just using the adaptive Free-sync to G-sync thingy that recently came out in the GPU drivers update. For just a little bit more you could be leagues above a super budget monitor. And the Asus comes with DisplayPort hookups, which are the future of gaming. HDMI have FPS limitation that DisplayPort does not have. That's just my 2 cents. A year later and I already want to upgrade this monitor to something better resolution. You can throw all the fancy parts in the world in your rig but if your monitor is meh, then your games will be too. Monitor is a very important piece. https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VG248QE-1920x1080-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0

That was just an oversight on my part with the wifi. I will probably now spend my evening watching reviews of the 3700x haha. Thanks. I know I said I didn't need monitor reqs, but that was mainly because some of that is personal preference about its looks. I was looking at this guy https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VG248QE-1920x1080-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0 mainly because I have a 4k tv that i will "test" photos/videos on after editing so i figured 1080 was enough

I built my own PC recently and I'm overwhelmed by the amount of variables, options and knowledge required to safely & accurately experiment with OC settings. Any help would be appreciated.
The Part List - All Models / Specs are identical to mine.
Amazon list of the model types:
- CPU
- CPU Cooler
- Motherboard
- [RAM] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X8DVDZZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) ^x2 (32 Gigs Total)
- SSD
- Graphics Card
- Case
- Power Supply
- Monitor
OS: Windows 10 Home x64
Overclocking Software List:
-
CPU-Z: The 'Bench' button would often increase the heat of my CPU to almost max. I believe this might have been from running it with over-tuned settings.
-
UserBenchMark: I'm sure this is nowhere near optimal for repeat benchmark data but it's helped monitor the impact of each change. My best OC Benchmark result. The pre-optimized XMP RAM profile is the only thing I could get to work and a monkey could do that...
-
AMD Ryzen Master: Been looking for an OC template that might adhere to my hardware specs to import safely, nothing so far. I've had to factory reset my BIOS settings 5 times now as a result of overtuning, I could imagine this might be taxing on my PC.
-
MPG x570 Default BIOS: So many unique acronyms... So many unique settings that I've never even heard of. Researching the many OC settings has just lead to more questions and uncertainty. The amount of necessary trial and error is absolutely demoralizing. Overclocking safely, accurately and effectively is beginning to feel like rocket science..
-
MSI Afterburner: Practically no luck with this program or how to understand & adjust the parameters of a 2060 RTX SUPER 'OVERCLOCKED' to any noticeable results without extensive trial and error. Crashed my PC 4 times experimenting with it and never bothered tweaking with it anymore. Unsure if the 2060RTX SUPER OVERCLOCKED comes factory OCed or has an OC profile like RAM's XMP profile which needs to be activated first.
Success so far:
-
XMP RAM Profile: Enabling the DDR4-3600mhz RAM XMP profile without manually setting the MHz to 3600mhz kept the factory default MHz around 2000~ but the XMP timings properly updated. Not sure why. Manually setting to 3600mhz fixed this, resulting in my best benchmark.
-
Game Boost / Game Mode Auto-OC Mobo Profile: Turning this on resulted in higher benchmarks but I read somewhere that enabling the Game Boost will also apply to the XMP profile, overtuning my RAM, causing power strains - I currently have no settings overclocked on my CPU or GPU.
My Interests and Intentions regarding Overclocking:
- Not terribly concerned with overclocking for pushing hardware benchmark results. Mainly just interested in understanding the fundamentals of how to safely and accurately tune overclock settings to achieve the most well-optimized performance.
- To my understanding, reduced hardware lifespan seems to be the main result of higher tuned OC setting's power requirements, which I would like to avoid.
TL:DR - Taking my PC hardware in to consideration, what's the simplest way to overclock my hardware settings to have the most optimized performance.

I've been out of the loop for a few years on PC parts, and I'm not sure what component(s) in my build I should look into upgrade, and what suggestions you might have? I built this back in 2015:
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700k 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1151
GPU: Sapphire Nitro Radeon R9 390
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2, 80+ GOLD 750W
Monitor: ASUS VG248QE 24" Full HD 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms
Some context:
I mostly want to play games comfortably on high/ultra settings, do some 2D art, 3D modeling, and some music production in Ableton. Beefy enough to handle VR would be cool.
Noticed my computer getting somewhat laggy in general even after fresh startup with hardly any background programs running. Recently I've been playing Monster Hunter World and saw a huge drop in performance on max settings after their post-Iceborne updates.
I saw some nice sales in /r/buildapcsales such as the i9-9900k for $300 and the i7-10700k for $350 but wondered if it would be good to get those, and if I did whether I also needed to upgrade my mobo and/or GPU as well.
My budget -- I would like to stay under \~$1000.

I'll use this as an opportunity to give the stuff I have and how I cable managed
Main Components
Desk: Ikea Karlby Countertop
Drawers: Ikea Alex Drawer
Speakers: JBL LSR305 1st Generation
Monitor: ASUS VG248QE (need to upgrade to bigger monitor now)
DAC: Scarlett 2i2 1st Generation
Keyboard: Azio Retro Classic BT (Elwood)
Mouse: Logitech MX Master
Accessories
Lamp: HAITRAL Industrial Desk Lamp
Speaker Stands: Kanto S6
Monitor Arm: VIVO Monitor Desk Mount
Cable Management
These are the only things that I think are necessary for cable management. On important devices that you want to mount onto the desk or drawers (Surge Protector and DAC for me) I used 4 pairs of command strips to mount them so I know for sure it will hold and won't budge. They're stuck on good now and takes considerable force to remove the components from the strips. Then I used the zip ties and zip tie mounts to go around and mount all the wires to underside of the desk and back of the left Ikea Drawer so it's neat and out of sight.
Hope this helps you out!
