You could try an acer aspire 5 (configs for nvidia mx250 + i5 10th gen is more expensive while the all AMD version is < 400 USD

Its VERY difficult to find a even normal gaming laptop for cheap. The aspire 5 is not marketed as a gaming laptop , but the specs (intel + Nvidia )should keep you covered in most games at low settings (even some AAA games).

Now there is the Asus TUF FX505DT for +700 USD which has greater specs , meaning you could ramp up the settings in many games and even play newer games which are coming out.

But it is rather cheap (suspiciously so) which means there are some issues ( bad thermals , battery life , etc)

In short you can't get a good gaming laptop for cheap.

Like others have said if you are fine with waiting a few months for the laptops with newer graphics you can, but I'd imagine Shadowlands will be out before then. If you are looking for something under 1k$ I'd recommend this:

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-IPS-Type-GeForce-Gigabit-FA506IH-AS53/dp/B0865THZCL/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=asus+laptop&qid=1598581511&refinements=p_72%3A2661618011&rnid=2661617011&sr=8-3

A friend of mine recently purchased this and it doesn't have the latest graphics card but is pretty sturdy and can run most things on high or medium settings. If you want to run on max settings you will have to pay at least $1k+. Just make sure to update everything first(Windows) and install Geforce Experience and update the drivers as well before playing.

Hello! I hope you find the laptop you're looking for !

I honestly had the same problem since I'm an avid gamer, have a normal laptop from 6 years ago and recently I made a gaming desktop.

The problem is that laptops are very limited and you want to play games on the go without sacrificing RAM or performance. Some normal laptops are more expensive than some gaming ones- for more storage , a good CPU or more RAM.

( This is also a problem if you want to use heavy software for work)

I am now saving money for this laptop to buy, the Asus Gaming TUF series it's pretty amazing for what it offers. It has a powerful GPU , enough Ram for multitasking and gaming. It's a tad more expensive but I feel like it has a lot to offer for it's price. ( It's powerful enough to play more recent games with some decent settings)

Asus TUF gaming A15

( the problem is the laptop doesn't come with windows or drivers installed)

Something like this should knock STO and most other games out of the ball park, and it's not expensive either.

EDIT: Though, you'll probably want to find a similar variant with 16 GB of RAM.

I'm not in a particular rush, so I can wait a month or two. The Asus one sounds nice, and it looks like it's at 800 on Amazon atm. What would be a more reasonable price for me to wait for for if I decide to go with that one? The overpriced thread said 600-750 was just okay

Edit: Amazon lists this as a newer model, and it's only $38 dollars more. Is that actually an upgrade and is it a reasonable price? I might consider that even if it's a little above my budget

I was also looking at this [laptop] (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-IPS-Type-GeForce-Gigabit-FA506IH-AS53/dp/B0865THZCL/ref=pd_gwm_ci_mcx_mr_hp_m_1?pf_rd_s=blackjack-experiment-2&pf_rd_t=Gateway&pf_rd_i=mobile&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pd_rd_wg=MtzwN&pd_rd_r=FSQ2VET1MQ8QQ9FARP0V&pd_rd_w=0m5nZ&pf_rd_r=FSQ2VET1MQ8QQ9FARP0V&pf_rd_p=de067357-2da6-482c-859b-5af34380504d&pd_rd_i=B0865THZCL) us around the same price and battery life but the specs “look” better. Is it actually better though?

A laptop limits options but something like this. Sims doesn’t take a lot of power to run so any laptop with a dedicated graphics card would work and at least a 4 core processor

If you really need a laptop , find one that has Ryzen 5 4600H (latest AMD CPU, on par with i7 10750h in single thread and outperform i7 in multi thread application) and Nvidia GTX 1650

This one , for example

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-IPS-Type-GeForce-Gigabit-FA506IH-AS53/dp/B0865THZCL/

Though you probably get a better deal on black friday

Im not sure what your budget is but this asus tuf laptop is pretty good for what your trying to do my friend has this laptop and so far he run almost every game around 80-120 fps on medium/high. the storage might be low but you get an external hard drive for like 100. Im not too sure if this laptop is customizable. https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-IPS-Type-GeForce-Gigabit-FA506IH-AS53/dp/B0865THZCL/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=gaming+laptop&qid=1601391633&sr=8-3 Edit: it is customizable you can add another ssd and hard drive too it aswell as ram

So I bought this laptop https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0865THZCL/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_i_5gxOFbC5Q5M6Q I bought this ram card to put into it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7K4DV4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Amazon told me they were compatible but the ram showed up at it says on a big sticker supports intel products. Is it compatible with amd?

And laptops. I just bought this one for my brother and I'm extremely impressed with it (144hz with really decent performance for $750!).

This is not an affiliate link. The price is now higher because amazon.com is out of stock of them and marketplace vendors have kicked in.

Awesome! Thanks man! You've been so helpful! So here's the ultimate and final question:

The laptop that I currently have i got on sale for $599 is this - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-tuf-gaming-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1650-ti-256gb-ssd-black/6425894.p?skuId=6425894

This is the one that is currently selling for $749 when in stock - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0865THZCL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_Lzp0FbX0XBE5H?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Thinking about returning the Best Buy one I got for $599 and getting the Amazon one for $749. Is it even worth it? Keep in mind that I have a PS4, which i play the newer games on like Valhalla. I use the laptop to browse, watch videos, and casually play oldies like Skyrim, Sleeping Dogs, GTA V, Watch Dogs 2, and Football Manager. With all your immense knowledge, what would you do?

This is a good option ASUS TUF. It has a Ryzen 5 4600H 8GB RAM and a GTX 1650 for 835

Or You Can Get This For a Extra 150 which will give you a 8 core i7 9750H 16GB RAM and a RTX 2060 For 999.99

I Think The Acer Nitro is better because that's a Major Upgrade from the ASUS

The Only thing is you only get 256GB SSD instead of a 512 SSD which can be bought for 60$ For example the 970 EVO is a good choice 970 EVO

The only time you will need a touchscreen is if you are a good graphic artist and can DRAW illustrations by hand . It may be not useful . And touchscreen would essentially increase the budget by a lot margin for a gaming laptop . The hp laptop you suggested seems quite good but it just has a very basic entry level graphic card ( not even entry level gaming card ) . So you wont be able to play titles on it due to lower capable of graphic card .

Since you have nitro 5 in mind , i would suggest you to also check out ASUS tuf gaming laptop

and HP pavilion gaming laptop .

Coming to the battery life , with just decent work such as browsing and surfing internet and playing videos these gaming laptops can give you a battery backup of 5-6 hours . Can't say of lenovo since i am not positive about lenovo's reliability .

Having a touchscreen laptop will drastically increase the price , and just for the sake of sometimes why shell so much money. I will suggest you to look for a non touchscreen laptop and if you later feel the need just buy an airbar which will make your laptop touchscreen .Any other questions are welcomed too.

If TF2 is the only game your kid plays, a $700ish machine (like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0865THZCL) will do the job. But if you are comfortable spend all of the $1200 budget, a machine like this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08842D7JS) with better specs is always good to have as it will probably serve you longer which means you will avoid another purchase for upgrade in the future.

I'm assuming something less than $1000(?), here's what I can recommend:

ASUS TUF A15 - it's a great performer for the price, screen is decent for gaming and media consumption but for photo editing that requires a really intense screen, not super awesome but is just okay.

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-IPS-Type-GeForce-Gigabit-FA506IH-AS53/dp/B0865THZCL/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=gtx+1650+laptop&qid=1599038406&sr=8-5

Acer Nitro 5 - although has that kind of gamery look but still great specs for the price

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Quad-Core-i5-10300H-GeForce-Keyboard/dp/B08C9BQTJX/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=acer+nitro+5+2020&qid=1599038696&sr=8-3

Legion 5 - most discreet looking among the rest although trackpad isn't very centered

https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Premium-GeForce-Backlit-Keyboard/dp/B08BF9JQ8W/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=legion+5+ryzen+5&qid=1599038917&sr=8-4

I recommend any i5/i7 or ryzen 5/7 with a GTX 1650 or up. For everything less than $1000, we can't be too choosy on things. Hope this helps!
