Okay, this is actually the problem I'd be facing. Thank you! Very helpful! I was going to return the MX500 SSD to Adorama and re-buy the P1 for $10 less on Amazon. But after return cost, etc., it's not worth it. Decided to just stick with the regular SATA MX500 SSD. I'm hoping the motherboard or the SSD itself will come with screws? Because I have to screw it into my case lol
Btw, ended up ordering this wireless card:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P61CK87/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
Now I just need to get the motherboard and then decide on a freakin PSU !!!

I ended up getting this Asus with bluetooth. The external antenna can be put anywhere as opposed to the antenna placed on the back of the pci-e card. Not sure if it really matters, but perhaps could in some case uses.

If you're having the same (repeat) failure with multiple USB Wi-Fi adapters,. I'd have to guess:
- you're buying cheap shitty WiFi adapters
and/or
- Your USB ports are (somehow) surging or fluctuating Voltage to a degree that the low-quality WiFi adapters cannot handle and are eventually burning out.
If your USB Wi-Fi adapter is either:
- constantly struggling to maintain a weak connection
or
- constantly under heavy load
.. you're going to burn it out. That's nothing magical about that. It's just how it is.
If you want more dependability or reliability,. you need to buy higher quality Wi-Fi adapters. If you have a Desktop, buy a WiFi card that has a long external antenna like this: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-802-11AC-Wireless-AC2100-Bluetooth-Pce-AC58BT/dp/B07P61CK87/

So I’ve ordered all my pc parts and I need a question answered.
1: Does anyone have recommendations for a good pcie wifi card? I was thinking of getting this https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-802-11AC-Wireless-AC2100-Bluetooth-Pce-AC58BT/dp/B07P61CK87/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=asus+wifi+card&qid=1583354176&sprefix=asus+wifi&sr=8-6
.
2: I have a laptop with a windows 10 retail key (I upgraded for free from windows 8). I checked through registry and I’m sure I have a retail key. Can I transfer this key to my new computer? Google has given me different responses so I’m not sure what’s right

You could also get a wifi card like this and throw that in with an ATX motherboard, it would give you bluetooth as well. I get the appeal of the built-in wifi though.

I would mainly look for something from a big name brand for better driver support, quality control and warranty. TP link or Asus come to mind. You probably want bluetooth 5.0 too. I would avoid bluetooth usb dongles. The 3 I tried all had driver issues and poor connection compared to my current motherboard's built in.

Getting xbox controllers to work over bluetooth can be a pain. My old motherboard's bluetooth just refused to work with it, but my new one works fine. The tp link card I linked uses the same chip as my motherboard, so it'll probably work for an xbox controller.

If you want the full speed from your router, ac88. It has a 4x4 radio required to get the full 2166 Mbps link from your router. Can you USE that speed? Probably not... Ethernet is only 1000 Mbps and is what you use to give your router a connection to the internet.
I'd get this instead: Asus ac58bt. AX is not THAT much faster than AC, in this case we have 300 Mbps theoretically lost. Theoretically. You'd likely never see an impact.

I've installed many of these. WiFi and bluetooth both work great. The external antenna is really beneficial for signal optimization.

Is this a fine wifi adapter? I know ethernet > wifi but I don’t have it in my room.
1 points • rtayy
You've got it backwards. An access point broadcasts a Wi-Fi network for wireless clients. It is not a Wi-Fi receiver for Ethernet clients.
Here are some alternative strategies, from best to worst:
- Get an Ethernet connection.
- Get a MoCA/DeCA multimedia-over-coax connection.
- Move the router somewhere closer where the signal strength is stronger.
- Buy the access point, wire it somewhere closer where the signal strength is stronger.
- Buy a high-quality PCIe Wi-Fi card with external antennas..

This has an Intel wifi chip so it works great on Ubuntu. I used this and another Asus ac card and it has been a great experience on both Debian stable and Ubuntu 20.04. https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-802-11AC-Wireless-AC2100-Bluetooth-Pce-AC58BT/dp/B07P61CK87/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ASUS+Dual+Band+802.11AC+Wireless-AC2100+Pci-E&qid=1594553791&sr=8-3

Help! I need a replacement antenna and don't know where to look :(
So, I've been having monitor problems recently and when I went to unplug my DP cable from my PC, it required some force which inadvertently led to my hand catching on the cable for my wireless antenna and ripping the cables from their connectors. After some amateur soldering, the antenna is working somewhat well, but the range and signal are MUCH lower than they used to be.
Does anyone know of a good replacement antenna for my card? I'm almost positive that this is the card in my build, but I can't find any clear replacements online: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-802-11AC-Wireless-AC2100-Bluetooth-Pce-AC58BT/dp/B07P61CK87?th=1
Thanks for your help in advance! I'll be more careful in the future 😅

MSI never refreshed that board to a MAX version, the MAX boards are all guaranteed to work with 3000 series CPUs out of the box.
In this instance I wouldn't bother with a motherboard with wireless for a B450 board, all they are are boards including an Intel Wireless 8260 or 9260 in a hidden M.2 ket E slot. One of the B450 boards I mentioned and this adapter would be the same as the MSI B450 Pro Carbon AC in that regard.

CPU: In that case I'd recommend a Ryzen 5 1600 AF as found here. It comes with its own cooler, is suitable for 60hz and because it's dirt cheap, it'll probably retain most of its value on the second hand market.
Motherboard: My mistake, I forgot you needed wifi. If you would prefer, you can get a PCIe wifi card like this one which would allow you to carry over your wifi adapter to future builds without having to buy a motherboard specifically for wifi.
PSU: I'm not that familiar with how much heat PSUs produce, my slightly educated guess is that a more efficient PSU produces less heat as less electric is wasted( and hence converted to heat). However, I'd also guess that PSUs produce very little heat in comparison to GPUs and processors and so I'm not sure if it's worth considering.
If the power bill is a concern, remember that PSUs operate at peak efficiency at roughly half their rated wattage i.e. a 600W PSU is most efficient when supplying roughly 300W of power. Since the build I suggested is projected to use 300W by pcpartpicker, you would want to aim for a 600W-ish PSU with the highest rating you're willing to pay for.

remove the ram sticks and put them back in.. still will not fix the problem ? remove the cmos battery and put it back in

Removing the Cmos battery fixed the no boot problem when i built a pc for a co-worker every single time I messed up something in the BIOS settings

You part list stating that the mobo and cpu are not compatible.. make sure you update the bios

also- at least get a better Wifi card for your PC .. $1600 build with a $16 wifi card..
how about this one ?

you could also get a cat6 cable and run it for a hard line, would be a better option
1 points • CA1900
I believe the AR938x only supports 450 Mbit 802.11n. In the real world, 50 Mbit is pretty typical. Doesn't matter how fast the router is if the network adapter doesn't support the faster protocols.
If you can't run ethernet, then at the minimum you need an 802.11ac adapter, perhaps something like this.
Another option, if you have Coax near the router and your desktop PC, would be MoCA, which would let you piggyback a network signal on your cable lines.

I'm using a WiFi card with external antenna, not for the WiFi but for the better Bluetooth connection. The external antenna really helps. Similar to the effect of using a USB extension cable and connecting a Bluetooth dongle to that, far away from other stuff.
Having said all that, I still feel a bit of lag, but it's acceptable to me.

ASUS AC58BT, Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I, Fenvi 9260 would all be acceptable adapters. I believe all of these use Intel chips, so WiFi drivers can be downloaded from Intel

I'm looking for a new PCIe WiFi / Bluetooth Card and was wondering what some popular / good ones are. I've currently been looking at two, and was wondering if they were good choices, if one was vastly more popular than the other, etc.
ASUS AC2100 and TP Link Archer TX3000E
My router is an Archer A7 and my download/upload speeds are 200/100 Mbps. I would like to have excess speed for my local network though as I am running a plex server, and in case of future internet speed upgrades.
My motherboard supports WIFI, but when I tried to use it \~6 months ago I noticed I had VERY laggy internet connection. Stable ping is very important for the games I play. I have the Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI. If this shouldn't be the case maybe I need to look into it, but I have no problem buying one of the two PCIe cards above, or better alternatives.
Direct Ethernet is not really an option. I have tried powerline adapters and they worked wonderfully when I lived in a house, but now in my apartment I noticed they gave me abysmal speeds and sometimes worse connectivity than wireless.

What is the exact brand and model of your Wifi Router and your Internet Modem?
Also, why did you build a new computer and use a Wifi adapter from 10+ years ago?
Your Wireless N PCI Express adapter only supports upto Wifi-4 standard and we are now in the Wifi-6 "era". You should really be using an adapter that at least support Wifi-5 (AC class).
You should use this:

If you're set on a PCIe card. Get something that gives you some flexibility with antenna placement. The less obstructions between the router and his computer, the better the Wi-Fi performance will be.
