My PS4 pro would roar whenever I played Fall Guys. Trying to play avengers was like starting up a nuclear reactor. I used this video To disassemble my PS4 pro step by step using all the same tools. I used compressed air to clean each component as I disassembled (outside, it is very dusty) and a soft brush to get the more caked on dust. The thermal paste on the CPU was also crusty and worn and no longer evenly spread. I reapplied using this thermal paste. The first thing I did after reassembling was boot up Avengers and now it is as quiet as the first day I got it. Clean your console and keep them happy!

you can try this https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-MX-4-Compound-Micro-particles-Durability/dp/B0795DP124. Currently my xps idle temp is around 52C, high load around 72C.

About 7 months after purchase, (actually like 4 days ago lol) I put new paste on. And from what I can tell, paste is much cooler then pads although pads don’t have to be replaced. I suggest just using paste. I used this paste and now my laptop is 10 to 20 C cooler usually.

CPU are designed to lower the core frequency when overheating to reduce the heat before it starts to damage itself. 100C is high but I’m not sure reaching that temperature the laptop would shut down. If it’s shutting down you maybe looking at even higher temperature. Changing thermal paste will definitely help but I’m not sure what thermal paste the tech will be using, but I would recommend you buy a trust worthy one yourself and let the tech do it when he’s on site. this one is the best I’ve used so far.

Yep, assembled second fan, plugged them into MOBO, can physically see them running, BIOS reports 1500 rpm at 100%. Removed plastic cover from cooler. Thermal Paste is Arctic MX-4, believe I used the right mounting bracket, I have the ASUS Z97 AR so I used the 1150 bracket.

liquid cooling will definitely benefit your cpu more than the stock aio cooler, but even with stock you say you were reaching around 90c, are you sure there was even thermal paste applied in first place? Seems very high regardless of it being stock. Also I don't know too much about different thermal pastes but I use this for my 3700x.

Hey everyone I found thisfan tear down. and I figured since I'm that close to the CPU mind as well change the thermal pastepaste. I remember seeing this guy also use thermal tape on the heat transfer copper thing leading to the fan. Would that be wise to use the thermal tape on the brass thing like a strap or 2. Also clean the old thermal paste and change with new. Is it possible to use them both in conjunction with one another for max heat distribution so the laptop would run cooler. Can someone please clarify on this.

Are you looking for best price, thermal performance, or longevity?
The best thermal performing pastes and liquid metals might need to be replaced more frequently than most would prefer, but will offer the best thermal performance. I'd recommend considering alternatives before going with liquid metal unless you are looking for the absolute best thermal performance regardless of cost and maintenance.
From what i've seen Thermal Grizzly and Arctic seem to be the most popular brands. Anecdotally, I've recently used Arctic mx-4 with several builds, and the temps I've observed have been "good" and exactly inline with what I'd expect. I can't say if its strictly related to the paste itself or more likely related to my overall system cooling and configuration, as I haven't tried different pastes with the same system.
Also, here's an interesting video with der8auer (who works for Thermal Grizzly) and Gamers Nexus on the subject. https://youtu.be/CCqxE-5Ct3w

Ok. Thanks for the details. As you're going Intel - Intel, you can try to just replace everything and boot it up, but it's always cleaner to do a fresh install with Windows. I would back everything up to an external drive just in case before you did anything, obviously. Here's a relevant thread: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/913910-do-i-need-to-reinstall-windows-after-motherboard-upgrade/
Regarding the upgrade, you're going to need new thermal paste. What CPU cooler do you have? Here's some good paste: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0795DP124/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Get everything ready, and see if you have some old anti-static bags that you can use to place down the components onto as you swap everything out. Also, read the manual first. The new motherboard is extremely similar to the old one, but you want to make sure you're familiarized with everything first. Now's a good time to clean your case and fans, too. Don't forget to install the IO shield! Things to organize and prepare beforehand: zip ties/Velcro loops for cable management, a few coffee filters and isopropyl/rubbing alcohol in case you have to clean up any extra thermal paste messes (coffee filters are perfect for this, don't use paper towels), cups for the screws.
Be careful when unplugging the USB headers from the old motherboard. I've gotten into trouble by pulling back too hard before and have broken connectors, especially the USB 3 blue connector. Rock it back and forth, don't just pull straight back.
Make sure you keep track of everything, especially the motherboard screws. I've, personally, never had any trouble with static electricity, but depending on how dry your environment is, make sure you can touch something nearby to ground yourself. I would install the motherboard and cpu power connectors first, then the SATA cables and power connectors (LED, reset, power switch, USB, fans, etc.). Final components should go in this order: RAM, CPU, GPU. I say this because of how difficult it can be to work around the CPU cooler, especially if it's a big fan. None of this is universally accepted gospel, as I'm some like doing those primary components first, but I like working "vertically" (the lowest profile to the MOBO first and moving up, as it's hard sometimes to squeeze in a USB connector later depending on the size of the case). RAM may also be sitting underneath the cooler as well. Regarding the RAM, make sure they're in the correct DIMMS according to the motherboard's manual.
If you've done this before, it should be fairly straightforward. I'ts also nice that you're working with a new motherboard that is laid out very similarly to the old one, so you should already have some familiarity with where everything is. After it's all done, don't try overclocking anything until you know for SURE that everything works. Double and triple check all the drivers work, and check components in Device Manager to make sure that nothing's been flagged. Good luck, and have fun!
1 points • DeeGeeFi
No need for any specific paste, just as long as you clean most of the old paste off.
There are loads of different pastes out there, the actual temperature differences between them are usually quite small.
One of the good oldies is MX-4

They're these 2mm thermal pads which I saw others use successfully. Looking from the profile of the board they're making full contact. Heat sink is tight, isn't moving at all so the clamp is pulling it down fine. So I don't think they're "too" thick, nor not thick enough.
I have brand new thermal paste coming tomorrow. I'll try some fresh stuff in case somehow the stuff I had "went bad" but I don't think thermal paste goes bad in a tube, right? It was less than a year old, used it on a GPU water block and that's working just fine.
Unfortunately I do not have the old pads.
When I redo the thermal paste tomorrow I'll take pictures of everything so I can post them here if it still doesn't work.

Getting the GPU down is probably unrealistic, the RTX 2060 with the best aftermarket cards with max fan speeds in a cool room can only drop down to at most 60* the 3700X you could get down with a better CPU COOLER like the COILER MASTER HYPER 212 BLACK (40$), BEQUIET DARK ROCK PRO 4($80), or the ARTIC LIQUID FREEZER 240MM AIO ($100)

The hard drive will be your biggest expense and deciding if you want ssd, sshd, or traditional hdd.
A toolkit to get into your Xbox if you don’t have one yet.
Thermal paste and memory thermal pads if you want to change those too.
Here’s what I got to open it up and reapply the past.
Edit: you don’t need that large of a set, but I like to tinker with other things and for that price I figured why not. I forget which exactly the Xbox uses so hopefully someone else can chime in, but maybe the T9 and T10 bit?

I would immediately assume it has the flawed heatsink / thermal design. In that case, I would recommend you get different computer.
Anyway, jokes aside, the first thing I would do is to replace the thermal compound.
- Thermal compound is a material that is necessary for efficient heat transfer between the CPU/GPU and the heatsink(s). Simply put, without thermal paste, a vast amount of the heat generated by the CPU/GPU isn't transferred to the heat sink.
- Dell, and other computer manufacturers, will have a bulk amount of thermal compound that they just lazily splat on during factory assembly. This works, but not too well. Usually, it will cause higher temperatures. Thermal throttling will also occur if the hardware is high-end, or if it has a bad thermal design, in your case.
For an actually good-quality and effective thermal compound, I recommend Arctic MX-4 thermal paste, as per my own experiences.
- Amazon: ARCTIC MX-4 - Thermal Compound Paste For Coolers | Heat Sink Paste | Composed of Carbon Micro-particles | Easy to Apply | High Durability - 4 Grams
- Walmart: MX-4 Thermal Compound (2019 Edition)
- eBay: Arctic MX-4 2019 Edition Thermal Compound Paste Heatsink Paste - 4 Grams
What is the model number of your laptop? I can't provide a very detailed explanation on how to scrape off the old thermal paste and apply new paste if I don't have the model number.
1 points • Cardburkey0
Tear it down, remove thermal paste and thermal pads. Replace said thermal paste, pads, and clear out heat sink. This sounds difficult to do, but it really isn't. The hardest part of the whole thing is putting it back together.
Tear it down and take pictures as you tear it down to remember which screw go where. I did this to my buddies Ps4 Pro after I did it to my Black Ops 3 edition Ps4. Both units run incredibly silent now.

So I have owned 2 G7 laptops and they both suffered with over heating problems. First thing is when gaming make sure charger is plugged in because the gpu cant run on full performance without it, second you want to use alienware command center to raise fan speed to 100 but dont forget to set the thermal profile under default on the home screen. Third its common between lots of different laptops the manufactures cheap out on their thermal paste and you want to change that out for a good one. Follow tutorial on how to change thermal paste using dot method. It might seem complicated at first but its really simple. Don't cheap out on the thermal paste. This on is best on the market. I am not sponsored. Also on dell power manager set to ultra performance on the thermal management page.

Might want to reapply the thermal paste with a way better kind. While your at it go ahead and repaste the GPU too. I would recommend this thermal paste which is the best one i would recommend. Or this thermal paste which is slightly cheaper and still great but not as good. Or get this thermal paste which is slightly cheaper but still as good as the last one but slightly less quality but still great. Or you can get this thermal paste which is much cheaper but not as good as the last one i said but its still great too. Mainly the reason why your seeing such high temps is maybe because the old thermal paste on the GPU and CPU is probably hard by now. Because thermal paste in laptops don't always age as well as desktop computers. AS they have to always withstand a lot of heat. Repasting the GPU and CPU will help the thermals a lot and performance. Just use the best thermal paste i recommend it will be great for the next couple of months. Also normally gaming laptops run hot under full load but if you get a cooling pad to go beneath it and just repaste the GPU and CPU. You should see lower temps and better performance.

My theory is not unfounded then, really does sound like there either no thermal paste between the cpu and the cooler or the cooler is making almost 0 contact with the cpu.
In your laptop the cooler is pretty easy to access and check. How adventurous do you feel about repasting? Or checking that the cooler has correct mounting pressure. Will void your warranty but it's not like Dell was of any help.
You can follow this vid for taking the bottom panel off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIhzrAXGIjU (and disconnect your battery) then checking if the cooler screws feel loose in any way. They should be tight but don't overtighten them if they're tight you get me. If they're fine check the fan and heatsink just in case there is dust.
You can connect the battery and run it without the bottom panel. and see what could be happening there. At idle the heatpipe and heatsink and should not burn you, During a stress test the entire thing should be hot af (burning levels). If it is only warm then yeah there might be a problem with the interface.
If you're feeling confident and want to replace the thermal paste since it looks like a good troubleshooting step towards solving the issue. You will need some thermal paste first ofc https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-MX-4-Compound-Micro-particles-Durability/dp/B0795DP124 i'd recommend this one because it's non conductive and has great reviews.
https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/inspiron-15-5593-laptop/inspiron-5593-service-manual/ here is the service manual, but the video is a little clearer. This is the section for removing the heatsink from the service manual.https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/inspiron-15-5593-laptop/inspiron-5593-service-manual/heat-sink?guid=guid-4da6fa84-ff63-4d31-a148-125aad9f4b2b&lang=en-us.
Here's an HP video on how to replace the thermal paste. If you already have it open then great! just disconnect the battery before proceeding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxMMjSF4QFw go to min 17:34 then follow the vidjeo. After that reassemble and hope for the best!.
The HP video doesn't mention the 3 screws in your laptop, try to follow both the service manual and the video.
Best of luck and hope the 2 solutions above solve your small pizza oven situation.
Reread Dell's response and im laughing at them thinking this is a "software" issue. loll
