I'm worried about dead pixels due to AOC's track record. But for the price I'm willing to take the risk

$1000 USD Video Editing/Adobe Creative Suite Workstation

>>What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

Video editing (mostly 1080p but maybe some 4k as well) in Premiere Pro. Some photo editing and design in Lightroom/Photoshop/Illustrator. I also produce music as a hobby in Ableton. Often times I am multitasking, for example, running Lightroom, Chrome, and Illustrator at the same time. I do play some lightweight games (mostly League of Legends), but it's not really a priority.

>What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

$1000 USD max!

>When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

This month (April 2020).

>What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

No peripherals or monitor included, just the PC and the OS.

>Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

California, USA. Obviously going to have to purchase everything online because of the coronavirus.

>If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

I have a Quickfire Rapid mechanical keyboard and Razer Deathadder mouse. I'm planning on getting this monitor but I'm not including it in the budget.

>Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

No

>Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

I definitely want an SSD + HDD combo, fast storage is an absolute must have for me because I spend a lot of time moving files around, but I still need a HDD because I need the space.

>What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.

Wifi is needed.

>Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

I don't really care about the case, just want good airflow. The less frills the better.

>Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

Yes. Windows 10 Home is probably just fine for my needs.

AOC CQ32G1 Review

Hello, budget friendly shoppers!

After about 2 weeks of extensive searching, researching, and question asking, I finally settled on a monitor... at least for now. I say that because I just got it today at around 3 pm, and it is now midnight. Though I have tested it on a range of different uses, Im still open to the fact that I may come across a deal breaker that will piss me off to the point of sending it back. Part of the reason I chose to go with amazon (aside from the fact that I got 200 bux from a gift return) is that I knew I could return it for free if I didnt like it. So without further ado, here are the first impressions of someone who is just an average Joe and who, in no way, does this professionally.

For starters, a link to what I bought:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HKM16DT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I paid approximately 345 USD after tax.

Games I tested on this:

  • Witcher 3
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Assassins Creed: Oddesy
  • Metro: Exodus
  • CS:GO
  • Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War III

Media I watched:

  • Letterkenny Season 8
  • Linus Tech Tips on Youtube
  • Porn - both streamed and from my "GlobalData" folder

And heres a link showing my old monitor, everything with the new monitor, and the new monitor set up on my desk:

https://imgur.com/a/bknQCXU

So as far as build quality goes, its not bad. The base is heavy and metal, and the stand is very sturdy plastic. You are limited to tilt only with the stand, no up/down or rotation of the screen. For me its perfectly acceptable, I knew going into it that I only got tilt and for the price... I can deal with it.

Out of the box, I saw no real issues. No dead pixels, no blemishes. Though windows didnt recognize it as 144hz right out of the box, that was just a quick fix. I was kind of surprised to see that G-Sync *was* enabled and I didnt have to do anything special for that given that this is a freesync monitor.

One of the things I did notice right away was how vibrant the colors are. I dont have any fancy shmancy calibration software or anything to spit out numbers that I dont understand about an sRGB scale, I just have my eyeholes. I knew the colors were going to be better coming from a TN panel, but holy shit I was NOT prepared for how big of a difference it is. Fucking night and day! If anyone can recommend calibration software, that would be awesome. I dont think Ill need it, but Id like to try it.

As for response time, Ive only noticed ghosting once while playing 'Dawn of War' and it could have just been the game. It could also be that Im just not used to it or that sensitive to it. Either way, I dont see it being a deal breaker for me. Id be willing to bet that IPS glow would piss me off more. Speaking of which, I have no glow or backlight bleed from this at all. Contrast is beautiful with nice deep blacks that are real easy on the eyes.

As far as refresh rate goes, Im not sure I see it. I still noticed tears in Shadow of the Tomb Raiders benchmark program where I averaged 87 FPS on Ultra quality, along with Witcher 3 and Assassins Creed (75 FPS and 60 FPS, respectively.) The only exception was CS:GO where I was averaging 190 FPS. Maybe Im doing something wrong. Or maybe I should just send this back and get lower refresh rate monitor. I will do some extra playing around before I jump the gun.

I am glad I went with the extra real estate, though. The 32" screen is the perfect size to have 2 websites opened side by side, or a website and a word document for easy cut and paste.

As for the things I dont like about it? As of now, the only thing I can really think of is the wonky OSD buttons. Ive turned my monitor off several times thinking the power button was part of the OSD control. If they had separated them or differentiated the power button in any way, it would be a moot point. Regardless, its a petty nitpik and certainly not something worth sending it back over.

Anywho. Thats about the end of it. Hopefully this will help at least one person who was in the same boat I was in last week. Now go enjoy your lives, you beautiful fucktards!

Absolutely.

Here's the one I got. Bought it for $299 and it was worth every penny. Not sure if there are better deals out there now. 144hz, "1ms", 32 inch curved monitor. 1ms is in quotations because it's debatable.

Ok cool. But wouldn’t a 120hz be better? I would get a monitor that supports it but I’m at a budget right now. Like this one for example: https://www.amazon.com/AOC-CQ32G1-Frameless-2560x1440-DisplayPort/dp/B07HKM16DT

AOC CQ32G1 31.5" Curved Frameless... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HKM16DT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This monitor is wonderful for the price as long as you remember to turn on bright frame. Absolutely no smearing, high refresh rate, HD. It’s great.

So my main monitor now is a 27" and resolution is not an issue. Its my secondary that needs to be replaced but I would rotate things so my main now would become my future secondary and the new monitor I would want to be bigger/better than my 27" 144Hz (because why not lol).

I do agree that if I go larger I need higher resolution but do not want to go past 2k as I dont think my 1080 will be able to maintain 144fps at 4k resolution.

Hoping someone out there is running a similar setup to what I am looking at. My link in the description didnt work apparently (copied from another post).

This one on Amazon

I think the cheaper VA panels are becoming a better go-to cheap option at this price point. Consider the AOC CQ32G1 as an alternative, though I can't speak to the quality of the freesync implementation

Yeah the main display is a 31" curved monitor. I don't quite remember what model this one is but it's been good to me. It's a 2560x1440 resolution 144Hz display with 4ms response time. Here's a similar one by the same company with a 1ms response time: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HKM16DT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_u1MqEb28VRX8T

I'm trying to finish speccing a gaming and light video (streaming, editing) rig. I'm looking for a monitor (want big 1440p), keyboard (mechanical preferred, maybe RGB?), and mouse for about 350. I'd prefer to spend the bulk of the money on the monitor. I was looking at this curved AOC monitor but the price has gone back up. I'd prefer to find one in the $250 range with at least somewhat similar specs.

Any help would be appreciated.

New to PC gaming so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

I just built a PC this month after about 5 years of ps4 gaming. I was really nervous about a drop in resolution because i play FPS's on my PS4 Pro on a 4k 65 inch tv and sit about 5-6 feet away.

I decided to get a positively reviewed 1440 144hz monitor and have not been dissapointed at all. Im getting 110+ fps (and havent tweaked things much) in COD warzone at max settings. With the 32 inch at about 2 feet away i find myself leaning in sometimes to see a distant enemy and im still not feeling like the drop in resolution bothers me. This is the monitor i picked up,, right in your price range.

Deciding on a monitor

I'm debating between two monitors, this and this. Is it worth the extra $50ish for a 32 inch monitor, or just buy the 27? I have a 1660 Super.

I spent the better part of an evening conducting research on the exact criteria you have listed above. I concluded this was an overall GREAT monitor for the price. There is a 27" option; however, when I bought my monitor, it wasn't available until late October. I just checked and it's in stock now. Lucky you!

Right up front, I have no idea what I'm looking for. I've watched some reviews and tried to look up info on monitors but everywhere I look reviews are all over the place at this price point.

I was originally looking at one of these 1 2 but the more I read the more I become unsure of if it's a decent monitor

What would you guys recommend?

Thanks all
