I bought these fans for my setup but I no longer need them and missed the return date. I’d be willing to ship them to you or something cause I don’t want them to go to waste!

I picked up this and I have it plugged into the USB port on the receiver. When the avr is on the fan turns on.

There is speed controller for three different speeds. I just have it set to medium and I never bother with any kind of smart control based on temperature.

Yeah if heat becomes an issue, I plan on adding a USB fan like below to the side to blow across the shelf lengthwise. So far temps are staying in the 100F range.

Best way is to remove the drivers and place them outside the tent. They generate more heat than the actual LEDs. I put my drivers on a baking rack, on top of a metal baking pan, outside my tent, then ran the cords in through a vent. I also bought these, and place them on top of the light hood, pointing down: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JLV4BWC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

As I said, I have one flowering 4 smallish autoflowers under mine, and I probably wouldn't do more. 8 is more feasible, but still a stretch unless they're smaller plants.

Personally run esxi on the qotom (not proxmox) and get a sg-1100 instead of virtualization it on the esx server.

I just use a 12V computer case fan with a USB plug (instead of the case pins). Something like this.

I either hang it in front of my stuff, blowing over it, or set the device to cool on top of it with the fan set in such a way that the air is blowing up. Works as desired.

There’s a used $1174 i7 Mac mini with 256 gb of storage and 16GB of ram on amazon right now. Couple that with external fans (reviews from other users I learned uses this fan for Mac mini’s): AC Infinity MULTIFAN S7, Quiet Dual 120mm USB Fan, UL-Certified for Receiver DVR Playstation Xbox Computer Cabinet Cooling https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JLV4BWC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UmTlFbRFYCXV9

Funny you mention being out of lids, Home Depot had a ton of buckets but no lids when I was buying supplies, but I had better luck at Lowe's.

I'll give the dual intake approach a try. That exhaust fan is pretty powerful.

I have the one on the right pulling in fresh air and the on the left pushing out the hot air. I used my temp gun to test the difference with the fans on and off after 30 minutes if hard usage. With the fans off the highest temp I was reading in the back was 124 and the Xbox fan was running hard as hell. With the fans turned on the highest recorded temp I could get was 92 and the Xbox fan never ever gets loud or spools up. Overall I'm super happy with them and I'll provide the link below to what I used. They have little silicone feet on them so they don't make any noise at all.

If you’re looking for a solution. I use these fans with my PS4 pro. One to blow air behind it and the other to blow air away.

I plug them Into the usb in the back so they just run with the PS4.

It’s cut down on the fan noise considerably. It no longer sounds like it’s going super sonic.

Good start and has a great potential for further improvement. These are my recommendations.

  1. With such a large room you could explore an AT (Acoustically transparent) type set up.
  2. Acoustic panels and sound treatments is non existing. You may want to add them along with some bass traps.
  3. For such a large room your speaker selection could be better.
  4. I don't see a sub. Did I miss it?
  5. Your receiver certainly needs cooling fans like the below

  1. You need UPS protection for your projector

Honestly almost any I have tried are either: ugly, don’t cool, or loud fans. There used to be a few I liked but they are all discontinued. Do you by chance USE the laptop keyboard/trackpad when it’s plugged in to models, or do you use external peripherals? If you use external, it’s way easier and cheaper.

I have had great luck with these:
AC Infinity MULTIFAN S7, Quiet Dual 120mm USB Fan, UL-Certified for Receiver DVR Playstation Xbox Computer Cabinet Cooling https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JLV4BWC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5R6xFbRC1S205

I put one under the middle of the laptop, and the other on top of the keyboard on the left side where it gets hot. If you don’t like that look it still works great to either have both under the laptop, OR, have that second one upright behind the laptop (but MAKE sure it’s blowing the same direction as whatever intake/outtake it’s nearest to.

The reason I like these is they are adjustable speed, and totally quiet on low. It may not LOOK as nice as a solid passive aluminum riser stand, but it IS cheaper and cools better.

If you’re like me and use the MacBook keyboard underneath (or next to) the monitor, then comment back and I have some other options for that.

I’ve tested this a lot because I casually game on my main MacBook, AND my home server is an old MacBook.

I second OPs comment on TGpro as well, especially for lap/mobile use.

The thermal section of this page shows the cooling direction for your laptop. So if you had that second fan standing up behind the MacBook, if it’s on the left-most side make sure it’s blowing OUT away from the back book. If the fan is in the middle it should be blowing IN but that doesn’t work as well as boosting the OUT on the left side:

https://www.apple.com/macbook-pro-16/

And as I said, you may get enough cooling by just having both fans underneath (as a stand) and then you don’t really see it.

Here are the fans, I didn't want to hassle with weird power cord inputs so I got USB fans instead, which I very much regret because they definitely don't have enough power to move lots of air, especially through the carbon filters.

For lights, I got the SF-1000, I'm thinking I could turn the brightness down a bit to help with the temps, but then I'm losing out on light which I'm really not a fan of.

Build is inside of a 55g barrel, lined with reflective insulation, which again is probably not helping temperatures. Gotta decide if the trade off from more light is worth it, and right now its not looking great. Gonna have one 5 gal fabric pot in there with a an automated fanned spray dripper for watering once complete.

My mini fridge has no fan in it and I want to get it cooler. I read online putting a fan in a mini fridge would help get it cooler. My mini fridge doesn't have a fan in it so I think it would help. Would these fans be okay to put in? Where is the best placement for them?

Cool problem.

The gradient between the two sides of your radiator sounds pretty low from a thermal exchange point of view.

Have you considered modifying the AV closet door? You could put a grill at the top to exhaust warm air and install a forced intake. For the intake, you could put a grill near floor level near the foot of the stairs and put an intake fan over it to draw cooler air in from the floor and force it into the room.

You could mount a quiet thermostatically controlled fan (LINK) or ultra-quiet PC fans (LINK) on the inside of the vent to draw cool air in, and thereby force the hot air out the top-of-door vent, though fan noise might be an irritation. I would put an inexpensive furnace filter between fan and grill to catch all the stuff drawn in from the floor to prevent filling your equipment with dust bunnies.

Random thought: what kind of heating/cooling does the house have? if it is forced air, is there a duct in a nearby joist you could tap and vent into the AV closet?

BTW- I admire you getting all your electronics in one place. That must have been a project!

I have these magnetic screens sandwiching a flat piece of polyfill over an air inlet hole.

I am using these usb fans on low. One to pull filtered air in and keep the tent in a positive pressure, and the other to circulate.

I also have this reptile fogger because it has built in time controls.

I am also using an LED aquarium light bar across the top of the tent. It's an old one I had laying around and it is likely discontinued. But basically it has adjustable length brackets to fit different fish tanks and I just have them spread out over the top of the support bars.

  1. I got the i7, 512GB with 16GB RAM from Amazon (US), then got it into Mexico. Looks like the model is SP513-54N-74V2, seems to match this one on their website.
  2. Overall experience is great. I kind of downgraded from a 2018 Matebook X pro with a dedicated GPU, albeit a pretty weak one. Looks like the ice lake CPU and integrated graphics can pull their weight for light gaming (League, Fortnite, etc). It does run a bit hot, but I rigged myself a cooling stand with these two USB fans. I made the change because I bought a Razer Core X, and I'm waiting on the release of next gen GPU's.
  3. Battery life is great, definitely better than my previous laptop. I have not have much need for it since I'm mostly at home, but I did need to travel a few days ago and it lasted the whole travel. About 6 hours of 1080p Netflix at max brightness and on airplane mode. I have a 90W PD usb-c charger and it does charge the laptop, although I do not know at what rate. Windows reports the same time to full charge regardless of which one I connect but I think this could be tested further, both in charging speed and thermals.

Here's some more details I'd like to point out:

My other choice was a 2-in-one XPS 13. I almost pulled the trigger on that one, as I was told by a sales representative I was elegible for a price match on it with the same specs and all, but I opted for the Spin due to more ports and some cooling concerns, as well as the aspect ratio.

What I like about it:

- Fits well in an airplane seat tray, and if I fold the keyboard back as a stand, I even have room to place my drink on the side.

- It's got a ton of ports.

-It is a bit bulky as a tablet, but it gets the job done spectacularly as a fat tablet (fablet?). Signing documents digitally with word, media, and small things like that are all nice-to-haves.

What I don't like:

- The side arrow keys are half-sized to leave space for the Pg Up and Pg Dn keys, which I NEVER use. If anything, they could have left the full keys and given access to the PgUp, PgDn, Home and End keys trough the Fn key.
This is by far my biggest complain.

- Glossy screen with good max brightness, but very high min brightness for my taste.

- Comes quite bloated (norton trial, acer toools, etc.) A clean reinstall is a must.

- A lot of branding. I took out all the stickers to give it a cleaner look, but the acer logo in the screen chin is HUGE.

- There are no Dbrand skins for it that I know of. (I'll be looking to get a custom one with some car vynil or something.

- The backlight does not turn on when you move the mouse (as opposed to my experience with XPS). This makes it so you have to guess what the first key you're pressing is. This is especially problematic when watching media at night, because the lower brightness button is right next to the airplane mode button. One small mistake and you're in airplane mode. For my preference, sending Airplane mode all the way to the right and having brightness control closer to Esc key would have been a better experience. Nevertheless, the occasions it has happened have made me better learn its position, so it happens less often every time. Also, if unsure I now press space bar beforehand to light it up.

- There are no dedicated buttons for changing volume, and doing it trough windows is a pain. Especially if you're full screen watching media.

- There is no way to switch Fn functions on the go. It is a BIOS setting, so you're stuck with whatever you choose and need to press the key. This becomes a pain when you have media keys as priority (since I change volume and brightness way more often than the function keys) and then need to Alt+F4 or something like that, since now you need to use 3 fingers and awkwardly do Fn+Alt+F4. Some laptops, like Huawei's Matebook X Pro, automatically switch to function keys when doing key combinations, and also allow you to switch priority on the go (kind of like a Caps lock), making it friendlier. This is also a big one for me.

- Intel XTU does not support this processor, and I've read they can't really be undervolted.

- As I mentioned before, it does get quite hot while gaming (as expected). I don't know how much of an improvement can be made with better thermal paste and thermal pads. Maybe even a graphite sheet? These are the mods I plan to go after, of course, adapting everything for the Spin 5. With cooling improvements and an external GPU this should be a beast!

Yet more stuff I'd like to add:

- Keyboard does feel a bit shallow, but I'm hoping to get more used to it with time.

- I originally didn't like the fingerprint positioning, as I believed having it on the power button would be faster. Nevertheless, I end up putting my finger in the trackpad either way, so for me personally it does not slow me down.

- I tried to open it up removing the screws and with a ply tool, but had a hard time doing it. I'll check out the review you sent and see if they mentioned anything, and if not I'll study the pictures to see what kind of clips they use and where. Hopefully the spin 3 and spin 5 are made similarly.

- Num lock can be a bit annoying, but it is also nice to have access to those keys for special characters.

All in all, it is not the thinnest nor it has the smallest bezels, but it is a solid laptop and withing its competition, I don't think I'm making much of a compromise. Also, for $1,100 USD it feel like a steal! I ended up breaking even after selling my Matebook X pro.

Theses were the intake

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JLV4BWC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And a couple of these on the inside, I placed one that is blowing towards where the projector is, so the exhaust from the projector is pushed out of the table. I cut quite a few holes, which I'm not sure how good/bad they are in terms of ventilation, but it hasn't overheated, and remains fairly cool inside the table with it closed.

I am thinking of adding another intake fan on the opposite side, since I do have my xbox inside, but it is still up in the air, it hasn't had any issues either.

For those asking....

Lights are:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F2WMCP2

Fans are:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JLV4BWC

The 12-pack of lights was enough to light the 4 spaces here. It's plenty of light for the microgreen shelves but it remains to be seen if it will be enough light for the bottom media bed, but I could pretty easily add 2 more lights to that bottom shelf if needed.

The fans are USB powered so I have one of these powering the fans (there is an AC option for the fans as well, but more expensive).

A lot of these ideas came from the On The Grow YouTube channel.

Buy rectangle carbon filters that are black that should fit over the bottom vents and block some of the light as well as filter any air/smell coming from/into the tent.

You can also look at a small fan to put inside and pull air through the filter and vents at the bottom with a muffin fan

I had to sand down the outside of the grate to fit it inside the duct shroud cause they are the same diameter but then I just cut some carbon filter to fit inside of it. Its all a snug fit so I hope it's adequate to control the smell. Time will tell.

33 gallon 'spacebin' journey

imgur album

This is my journey from dreaming of growing, to planning out my own stealth bucket build, to growing my own plant.

https://preview.redd.it/vbb9ypy70qz51.jpg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3fddc82d5519e5724c0add6eb16fe711720905b

I started this build in november as a kind of quarantine project. I had always been fascinated with growing, and tried a couple times in the past but never really broke down and really did the research to put everything together successfully. Where I live, complete stealth is the only option. I wanted to build something that I knew would be able to be completely stealthed stuffed in a closet with my pile of clothes, and be totally smell-proof. I went with the 33gal because i didnt want to have to worry about adding on rings and cutting up 5gal buckets, I figured this would give me a bit more headroom, although i knew heavy lst would be necessary either way. So far it's working great.

Basically for the build I spray painted the inside of the 33gal trash can with white paint, let it dry, then I cut a hole in the trash can for the exhaust, hooked duct up to an in line fan and a big carbon filter to help with smell, cut a hole for a small pc fan for the intake, and used the other pc fan to circulate air (these are usb fans powered by a small wall wart). I put an LED strip around the inside to help get light to the plant under the canopy. I cut a hole in the top and hung a 4 socket light fixture and put 4 - 45watt cfls (a couple of the bulbs later burned out and i replaced them with smaller LED bulbs that are working fine). Plugged it all into 2 timers and put my plants on an 18-6 light schedule, I did lots of LST and some defoliation along the way. I used water from my aquarium to water the plant about once every 3 or 4 days. I decide when to water based on my humidity meter, weight of the pot, and feel of the top bit of soil so sometimes it needs water after 3 days sometimes it goes almost a week.(the aquarium water actually tested pretty well for PH, and i figured there must be some good natural nutrients there ) and started using general hydroponics Maxi-Bloom at around 4 weeks in about every other watering. Started at about 25% recommended strength but the plant seems to handle the recommended dosage of 1 tbsp per gallon pretty well. I had heard about the KISS method for feeding plants and it seems to be working great. I just use maxibloom, check for any nute burn if i raise the dosage, and if i see a bit of brown on the lower tips i dial it back. I will add in a bit of cal mag at some point but for now it doesn't appear to show any deficiencies. I planted it september 5th, and it really sprouted up around the 10th. At this point the plant is right around 2.5 months old. I switched it to flower just under a week ago. The last pictures are from 2 weeks ago. I'll update with a current pic when she wakes up in the AM.

Thanks so much for checking it out! if anyone has any questions i'd love to answer, and any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

EDIT: This is my first reddit post so i apologize for any formatting errors. The pictures with the intake hole cut/fan mounted somehow didn't make it into the album. YES i know some of the pictures are blurry, my phone camera is terrible.

Everything listed here cost me around $220 plus any varying shipping prices. I had my own light fixture and 45 watt cfl bulbs which saved me at least around $100 on the lighting. Although its not abnormal for serious growers to spend $300-500 on a light, the equivalent of what i used can be bought for around $100 give or take. I also had my own extension cords and a couple of power strips, which would cost around $30 dollars.General Hydroponics HGC718281 MaxiBloom Plant Food For Flowers, 2.2 lb - $18.99

I've been meaning to put together a parts list so here goes. For the record I'm a newbie, but I did some pretty extensive research and it seems to be working well. I bought everything off of Amazon (USA) besides the seeds and the buckets.

I went with a plug and play setup which is a little more expensive but I don't have to worry about my wiring. I'm using This grow light. It seems like opinions on UFO lights are kinda split but my plant is loving it so I'm happy. I grabbed a bunch of Home Depot white 5 gallon buckets to cut the rims off of/ use one full one for the base. If you have access to power tools, I used a jigsaw to cut the buckets and it was a breeze.

You might want to look for a different one but I used these fans and they work very well but once I had the inline fan, having two was pointless. I really only use one sporadically as the inline fan creates a nice breeze by pulling through a passive intake (literally just the hole where one of the fans is. I run it a few hours a day just to toughen the stalk. The other hole has paper covering it and I use it as a window to check on it, although I'll probably replace the entire bottom bucket when I start flowering to make a seal for smell. Besides that I used just black duct tape to prevent light from escaping.

Hygrometer from my digging on here, seriously monitor this.

Wall Timer

BioBizz soil that I mixed with perlite (I'm sure any brand is fine) keep it light and fluffy when you plant.

Nutrients

2 gal smart pot. I bought a 3 gal as well but opted for the smaller one with better airflow.

pH strips

pH up and down haven't had to use these yet because my pH is fortunately spot on.

When it inevitably starts smelling you'll need to live with it or get a carbon filter/ inline fan setup. A lot of people try DIY solutions that you can research but I just went with the expensive sure thing. Looks like the AC Infinity T4 is out of stock on but the cheaper S4 is there and I'm sure it works just as well. I think the difference is the digital settings on the T series. As far as noise goes, I think the light is louder than the fan, but it's right next to my bed and I sleep fine with it running. It's like a white noise machine and I think I actually prefer sleeping with it on lol. Then I went with this carbon filter and this ducting although I'm sure any ducting works.

Anyways, I may not be the best source, but feel free to ask for any tips along the way.

Edit: I recently started LST with This and it really didn't work for me. The wire is too stiff and didn't cooperate with the fabric pot. I switched to some hemp wick I had lying around and its working well.
